Please add me to the undersigned as well.
Really need a G+ login OR use the Square Enix Software Token app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix_software_token
Why they don't use their own app/software as a login method is baffling to me.
If you don't want to pay for the keyring one, there is a free app that does exactly the same thing.
And in any case, copy your emergency removal password somewhere, it's what is used to get your account back if you lose the keyring or uninstall the app. Can find it by login in your SE account after setting up one time password.
The best thing to do to avoid this is to get an authenticator. You can get a physical one or, like me, an app for your phone. It's a little app that gives you a 6 digit number which is valid for a couple of seconds and you have to type it in alongside your normal password when you log into the game or your account through a browser etc.
It's not only to prevent these "change password every time I change IPs" thing but it also makes your account a lot safer (very, VERY low chance of getting hacked, nobody except the person with the authenticator - which is usually you - has access to the account).
Highly recommended!
You can download an app on your phone.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix_software_token&hl=en
Apple: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/square-enix-software-token/id617970570
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix_software_token <- Andriod
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/square-enix-software-token/id617970570?mt=8 <- Apple
It is rather easy to set up.
Yup an Authenticator app or key chain will fix this issue and make your account more secure.
It also lets you choose a teleport location to always be free as an incentive to get one. The app is free for iOS and Android
The key chain came free with collector's edition of ARR and 1.0 but can be purchased too if you wanted.

Once you're playing again, get this. Solves the hack problem and gives you a free teleport location in game. There is even a version for Apple devices.
a lot of servers have separate RP guilds but Balmung is definitely the (unofficially) mandated RP server, but its also one of the most popular, so you may want to get up at the crack of dawn to get your character made there
also I would highly suggest you download the Square Enix software authenticator for greater peace of mind with regards to security
have a fun time in Eorzea buddy
Are you looking at the right app? The FFXIV Companion App will ask for the one-time password, but you don't need that app. It's the SQEX TOKEN app that gives you your one-time password.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix_software_token&hl=en_CA&gl=US
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/square-enix-software-token/id617970570
If you used to have it but it's no longer installed, you'll need to go through the process of removing that token from your account.
If you never had two-factor authentication enabled, then just leave the one-time password field blank.
Prepaid doesn't matter it just has to be at least 4.1
Also you can read the premissions on the Play Store site

>This app has access to:
>Phone: read phone status and identity
>Device ID & call information: read phone status and identity
>Other: view network connections, full network access
Pretty much the standard from apps which needs network connection (either mobile net or WiFi) to work
How is the software token for one time passwords? I read a lot of bad reviews on the application but I wanted to ask here.
Wanting to boost my security of my account given a particular issue I've seen.
There are instructions on the mogstation account section that are pretty clear but I want to make sure this is safe and will actually boost security instead of causing me to lose access to my account sporadically (as per many reviews I read...)
Link to the token software: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix_software_token
As people have said, if you don't have a security token setup, just leave it blank.
I do highly suggest you get a security token though. You can buy the physical device or get their free app for it.

If you do setup the authenticator, make sure you save the emergency removal code somewhere.
One-time passwords are generated by the password token. You can either buy a physical one or download the "Square Enix Token" app for smartphones (for free)
It's not a suspension so much as they've simply locked your account as a security measure. On their end they are seeing an unfamiliar device attempting to log in to your account, and they are automatically locking it for your own safety.
Once you get this all sorted out, you should either purchase a Security Token or download their Software Token app from the Google/Apple app store.
Google
Apple
If you have a security token your account will not be locked when logged in from an unfamiliar device.

There is an app (Android and iOS) or you can also buy a dedicated hardware token (I have that). It's $10 with free shipping worldwide (or at least I didn't pay anything extra)
You also get a free teleport location which is really cool actually.

If you have iOS I'm sure you can just search the name in the iTunes store to find it.

Mine is my phone. If I lose it I can track it with GPS.
As someone else mentioned, the Mogstation is how you interact with the account. You can try this link on his phone, tablet, and computer and see if the browser tries to auto fill the log in information.
He may also have had a security token, either physical or on his phone. The physical one generally looks like this, same shape but maybe a different picture. The software version looks like this. Again, not everyone uses them but if you find one you’ll know what you’re looking at.
If they played on pc you can check if they have something called Xivlauncher or dalamud installed, not everyone uses it but it saves the password to stream line the login in process.
Some people have a notebook with login credentials and emergency removal code for a physical token or a thumb drive taped to the inside of a pc case/under a keyboard, in case you don’t play for a long time and forget. It’s a thought.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
Can purchase it via Amazon & Steam, at the very least. There is a monthly subscription and it's $11.95 then $1.00 per each character and another $2.00/ea. for Wardrobe 3 & 4*.
(*There are 4 Wardrobes in all, the first two you can get by linking a security token - hardware or software (Android or iPhone - excuse the lack of link for the iPhone version) - to your Square Enix account, which you should totally have anyway.)
Is it worth it? Hell yeah, I'd say so after having returned in June when I was gone for years. (You could always try a private server, although I know nothing about them and I plan to keep it that way since while I loved the ToAU-WotG era myself, I love how the game is now.)
You can read through the app reviews on Google play store. It's plagued with issues and if you didn't write down your emergency code during setup it could easily cause you problems.
Because if you don't want a physical one, SE forces you to use their app, which, according to the reviews on the PlayStore, is pretty much shit.
Let me use any TOTP OpenSource app and I'll gladly enable it !
