FYI there's an app called SSH Button you can use to send a command like "shutdown now" so you don't have to go all the way to the terminal.
You can also just issue
sudo pihole disable 5m
via ssh (or any other time you want). You can also put this in a script and use an "ssh button" for android (I use termux) or a desktop button. That is super easy on Linux and shouln'd be too hard with putty or WSL etc. on Windoze.
Personally I created a user on my pi just for these stupid jobs, put the script/user in the sudoers file so that the gpg key on my android device doesn't have any privileges outside this functionality.
I too switched from an Asus router to ER-4 and planned on using an app that would send SSH commands to the router:

I believe the intent was to turn on/off rules that would be programmed into the router. Alas, I never got around to figuring out how the whole thing would work so I haven't implemented it and can't confirm if the concept works. I resorted to just taking the devices away from the offending kids :)
I have an app installed on my phone that lets me issue a shutdown command with one tap: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pd7l.sshbutton&hl=en. Basically it's just doing what /u/kdknigga describes.
As far as transportation, I have my entire project, save for the battery, in this 3D printed case. So in my flight bag, I just have the Stratux unit, the battery, and the USB cable. I glued suction cups to my case so that I can stick it to a side window and keep the antennas stowed: http://i.imgur.com/1NqWWLC.jpg
awesome idea
I love how the first button on this apps screenshot is exactly this lol!

I use SSH Button to do this. Slightly more complicated though.
