I use Strelok on Android. The Pro version cost a few dollars. Its a very good app in my opinion.

The free version is also already quite useful.
I also contacted Igor via email and he was very responsive, even made some changes based on my suggestions.

This is a bit late, but here are my thoughts on VRT:

>the boy (VRT) murdered and replaced Marsch while in the back of beyond,
This is the standard reading, and the only one I find convincing. There is a lot of mystery to unravel around this incident, though. I think at the very least, the cat is actually an Abo girl and Victor's lover. I also think, with less evidence, that while in cat-form she bites Marsch when he mishandles her, so Marsch kills her (like he's done to almost every animal he's encountered), and then Victor kills Marsch. My most far-out theory is that the tire-tiger and the cat are both the same Abo girl. I do think the ghoul-bear is just an animal, but when Victor writes in the journal that he's killed the ghoul-bear over the tire-tiger's body, the ghoul-bear represents Marsch.
I take Victor's poor shooting ability at face value, as just more evidence of his half-Abo clumsiness.

>the bullet drop calculations in the back of the book are genuinely pretty suspicious.
A lot of people think this, but I jut don't see how it's weird for a hunting and shooting enthusiast to have a ballistic table jotted down, especially a technically-minded one. Nowadays these are available through popular phone apps like this one, but Marsch seems to be roleplaying a 19th century great white hunter, so he might have made a choice to be retro.

>the missing pages from the notebook. Normally these would hold the name of the writer. Possibly also the account of his arrival - name of the ship he arrived on, dates etc. I'm not sure who benefits from hiding this information. It certainly required fine tool use so probably a human was responsible. The very sharp blade used makes me think of Number 5's scalpel - but I can't see how he would be involved.

What's sharper than a steel knife or scalpel? The sharp edge of an obsidian eolith. This is going out on a limb, but glass and volcanic glass can famously cleave along an edge that's 1 atom thick. There are even specialty obsidian scalpels used in modern surgery when lasers aren't available. Note that at the end of the expedition journal, Victor is looking for eoliths. It seems he's made a decision to impersonate Marsch, and cutting out the first few pages of the journal erases any specifics of Marsch's history from before Sainte Anne, meaning Victor's fabrications can't be checked.

>the cat and bird who appear to the officer. Quite suspect. Are they abos or shadow children attempting to influence/mind-meld the officer to get VRT released?
Every time I've read VRT, I've been sure they are Abos seeking to aid Victor, but the only evidence I have is their strange behavior and the epigraph's connection of cats with Abos.

>Dr Hagsmith collects unverified tales of the abos. Hagsmith = Hag's myth = Old wives tales. Har de har har, Mr Wolfe.
Excellent catch! That's the first time I've seen that.
Chrono your load of choice and then use Strelok to find the dopes
I use strelok pro (~$12 on the app store) (also for iphone) with Weatherflow ($40) to shoot. Strelokpro is great because you can true your ballistic curve, which means if you input all the data to the app and it says adjust 32MOA for 1000 yards. You shoot and you're 2MOA low, so you adjust to 34 and hit. You can "true" your ballistic curve by inputing 34 MOA for 1000 it will adjust your FPS to match it. It takes the place of buying a chronometer to find your FPS. Also, with weatherflow you can measure wind and it will input directly into strelok. Strelok is also cheaper than the other ballistic apps (usually)
I started out with almost the exact same setup as you, I found it accurate enough for 1000, but I eventually upgraded. Eventually you will want to upgrade your optic, if you email Vortex for a veteran discount they will give you 35% off MSRP, which means you can get a PST for ~700 instead of 1000. You can get the FFP with EBR2C and it will be a good step up from what you have now.
Also, for recording data I use this. Its a good book, you dont need it but its nice to have. To get the basics off LR shooting magpul also has a video out called the art of precision shooting. Its decent but you can also learn the same stuff from youtube.
