If your talking about using the same personal number as your t-mobile number there's an app called, T-mobile digits. It will use your t-mobile personal number to make calls and texts on Data or Wifi , like you would normally would here in the us.
Call T-Mobile to make sure your phone is unlocked. If you are still on a payment plan for the phone where you don't own it outright, they can still do a 30 day SIM unlock so you can use a different SIM card abroad. Download the T-Mobile Digits app, and you can still make/receive calls, get texts and voicemail from your T-Mobile number. Basically, it's a bit like Google Voice, or other VoIP apps, where it uses data (cellular or Wi-Fi) instead of minutes.
You're welcome.
As far as Teltik, I don't think it's a good idea to get them confused about the DIGITS option. For them, that word will likely have a different meaning (in the postpaid context, it usually refers to an additional device and physical SIM card sharing the same number, like on an Apple Watch).
And also because we're talking about T-Mobile Prepaid, Teltik wouldn't really have anything to do with it.
Instead, you would simply buy a T-Mobile SIM card, active it online through T-Mobile Prepaid with instructions to port your current number, and then install the DIGITS app to your phone to send/receive calls and texts with that number.
T-Mobile has a device called LineLink. It's an adapter that you connect to your home internet which gives you a dial tone and you plug cordless phones into the device. Then there is a Digits app from T-Mobile you download that lets you text using your home phone number. It is similar to Ooma, Vonage and Comcast Home Phone Connect. All those services are home phones and allows people to text using their home phone number.
I'm sorry you feel that I'm lying.

I wonder if you can use digits. It's unclear if j1sim is a reseller or mvno. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmobile.digits
Messages within the Digits app use the universal profile (albeit version 1.0) and can work outside of TMobile. The distinction is you must use the app. This is different from phones with TMobile firmware that have "digits built in" which require updated firmware as you said.

Use T-Mobile DIGITS. It will let you make calls over data (which would include Wi-Fi, when you’re connected) once you log in to your T-Mobile ID.
If I understand how the android app works you should be able to use any android device. Like dmbtech said it's not standard voip so you can't just buy a grandstream, polycom, cisco sip phone and make it work.

After the 31st, go to webdigits.t-mobile.com for web and install the app if you want to text over data from Android. You don't have to install the app unless you want to text from your phone over data.
I have not seen a list of useful links yet. here are some that I think are helpful.
What mixed answers?
FWIW, I created a compatibility chart here: Xperia Compatibility with U.S. Networks. The two things you'll be missing are: - Wi-Fi calling. For that you can use the T-Mobile DIGITS app, though only to US destinations. - Visual VM in the native phone app. But this, too, is available in the DIGITS app, or you can install T-Mobile Visual Voicemail.
They don't actually "block" it in the sense that they exclude it by IMEI or anything like that. In fact, you can flash Sony's developer image for your phone (as long as it's one of their "open device" list) and get WiFi calling on the T-Mobile network. In fact, WiFi calling on T-Mobile works with just about any other device including my much-more obscure and dated Nokia 9 PureView. This is just to say, the problem is not solely with the carrier, the stock Sony firmware is also at fault.
You will not get WiFi calling on AT&T though - that is a deliberate exclusion by IMEI. They only whitelist phone models that they have branded. Also not on Verizon.
Here are some workarounds:
Visual Voicemail works on AT&T and Verizon, but not on T-Mobile. (But see the DIGITS workaround above).
Also you won't get 5G on AT&T. You will on T-Mobile and Verizon, but only in NSA (non-self-assist) mode. (You can check this by navigating to Developer options, then under "Prefer 5G NR mode" choose SA only - this will effectively disable 5G altogether). So the 5G speeds aren't going to be phenomenal either way.

They also have a web app to access from browser.
Thanks. I noticed on T-Mobile's website conflicting info. One place it says available for all T-Mobile voice customers and in another place is says for post paid customers.

"Download the DIGITS app from the App Store or Google Play Store, and log in using your T-Mobile ID credentials. If you don’t have a T-Mobile ID, the app will allow you to create one. Just remember to use a voice line for creating the T-Mobile ID. Go through the setup process and decide on which line you would like to use in the DIGITS app."

"DIGITS is a T-Mobile-branded app available for Android and iOS devices that can also be accessed by computer through a web client. Access is provided free of charge to all T-Mobile postpaid lines. "
