It works with Windows/Mac. I don't know if a workaround exists but seeing that it works on Mac I'm guessing someone found a way to get it working. Also, they have an editor on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr&hl=en
FWIW, I have a THR5, and if you have an android phone you can purchase this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr&hl=en_US) and connect the amp via USB OTG to your phone. This allows you to save and load patches instantly to the amp from the app, as well as adjusting the 3-band EQ. It's essentially the same function as the THR editor, but you can use just a mobile device instead of connecting to your PC.
If you don't intend on using the bass or acoustic sim channel, those don't really matter. And for aux volume you can always adjust that on the device you're sending the line out from.
BUT, i will say, I believe having the FLAT channel on the THR10 (not in the 5) would have been ideal for me when using fx pedals. Also, I'm pretty sure the 10 comes with a recording software license and the ability to interface with that software for recording. I know the 5 does not come with that software (Cubase), but I'm unsure of recording abilities. I've read that if you have any intentions of recording with the amp, you should get the 10.
If you have an android device, check out this app:

It let's you model the sound/features of the whole THR series on any THR amp via usb, if I'm not mistaken
Nice set up! Just bought myself an squier offset for Christmas (waiting)
I've got the TH5 as well. Been using it for 2 years now... Love it.
If you feel comfortable get an spare tablet or android phone and a USB cord & a phone adapter. Download THR librarian or something similar. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr
Now get some " patches" (preset tones) here is a good source. ( Thr10 ones work fine) https://guitarpatches.com/patches.php?unit=THR10
Sound just like your favorite artists...
Now just focus on the playing..no farting around with pedals & dials.

Also consider this if you have an Android phone/tablet: Great app for running patches. Works with your phone/amp controlled with hotkeys, Bluetooth & MIDI controllers. More control than the Yamaha App. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr
Get "THR Librarian" android app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr&hl=fr
USB cord from phone/tablet to THR
3 download & install patches... Lots of them Patches - https://guitarpatches.com/patches.php?unit=THR10
A few other cool sites a well... Btw the thr10 patches usually work great with the 5
It's a 3rd Party app but works splendidly. Just buy a long enough USB cable AND an OTG adapter to control the device at the distance you have it away from:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr&hl=en
As the instructions in the App suggestion says, all you need is:
"A USB OTG adapter. If your phone has a USB Micro-AB connector, you will need an adapter like this one: http://a.co/3mustjw. If your phone has a USB Type-C connector, you will need an adapter like this one: http://a.co/hSyMego."
......BTW, there's TONS of patches on the internet, Yamaha Forum and Youtube vids to help you along in getting the tone you want. Just Google it. It's just a fantastic piece of equipment to satisfy great quality tones.
An Android editor and librarian for the THR is also available: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsforamps.thr
There IS a footswitch for it:

......For myself, I connect my Phone with OTG USB cable and I remotely have access to the THR10 innards and presets with this app. It works 100% instantaneosuly:
