Last things first: http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/ is invaluable for broad overviews about models. War room is an app for Apple or Android that has all cards on it, albeit for a price (you buy by faction); however, it's always up-to-date, and has a list-builder and rules reference built in, so it's pretty nifty.
In terms of an all Houseguard army, it is possible, and there are a few casters that have tier/theme lists based around them - off the top of my head, both Ossyan and Thyron fall into this.
However, an army that is SOLELY based around Houseguard will be pretty weak, in my opinion. A large part of Retribution's power is in our infantry, and the fact that we have three separate types (Houseguard, Dawnguard and Mage Hunter) that serve massively different roles. As such, limiting yourself to just one is rather painful, and boring in my opinion - most of my non-tier lists run at least a unit of each, say Sentinels, Rifles and Strike Force. Instead of restricting yourself solely to Houseguard, you can easily start off with a unit of Halberdiers and Rifles with a couple of thanes as the core of an army, and go from there. (The Heavy Rifle team is rather dire, I wouldn't recommend them). There isn't any direct synergy between our myrmidons and Houseguard, so what you take will be more dependant on your exact list composition (primarily your caster).
Also, have you considered trying to find the Retribution all-in-one? Fantastically good value, and sets you up nicely with a Houseguard foundation (although I dislike Issyria as a starting caster - she requires a large amount of finesse to get anything done).
Also, final shout out for Thyron's tier list, which allows you to take a second Halberdier unit attachment (officer) - this is huge, as a Halberdier unit and UA is utterly superb on the field, and two are more than twice as good.
