You sure can. You need the official Apple Lightning to 3.5mm cable though.
Lightning to 3.5 mm Audio Cable (1.2m) - White
https://store.apple.com/xc/product/MXK22AM/A
If your amp has a 6.3mm port, you’ll need an adapter like this
You’ll need to adjust the audio from the amp as well as the Digital Crown on the APM, but it will work just fine
My fabric got all floppy over the course of a year and a half as well. I ended up putting a silicon cover on and it helps bring back a lot of the springiness and comfort that's missing.
Here's the one I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091NRGPTT/
I’ve been using this one for a few months, best I’ve found so far. Most APM cases open upside down (earcups up) which always felt janky and unnatural. These open cupside-down and have a nice pocket on the top cover that I’ve put a battery pack and coiled lightning cable to charge the headphones overnight.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VHD4LMS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
The one I got is silicon. I don’t put stuff in my hair, but the one I have is not permeable from what I can tell. But here is a link to the Apple support page specifically about cleaning them: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208729

I have both as well and recently I got Comply foam tips for the pros. The price just lowered, here is the link:
By the way, I feel like I’m the only one but I barely hear a difference between my pros and max, except deeper bass on the max. I’ve switched between them listening on Spotify back and forth and it’s just so hard to tell (trying to justify the higher price of the max haha). The noise cancellation is very subjective because the pros are consistent whereas the max sometimes changes based on the orientation of your head (otherwise maybe they’re better, but again I find it difficult to discern the difference). Either way they sound awesome for sure, just wanted to see if anyone else couldn’t hear as much of a difference

When at home, I use the APM case, it totally grew on me. When traveling, I bought this one ☝️
Nice reviews. Thanks for sharing. What color APMs do you have? Have you noticed any color rubbing off on them like with the WIWU case?
I'm looking for something relatively compact that also has the magnets for deep sleep. The Geekria concerns me because the stuff inside is just velcro'd in place, and the overall shell looks like a common one that they use for multiple brands of headphones.
I just ordered 3 cases to test out myself. Will report back here after I receive them on Monday. - Geekria like the one you reviewed - JIELIELE (LOL at the name)Replacement Smart Case: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VMXJ2FJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - intelliARMOR CarryOn Max: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08XZWT72C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You're welcome. Not at all and it was more for a peace of mind. I don't even notice any weight at all and it almost belong with the APM. Getting in and out the case is effortless as well. going to rig your own? I really wanted to do it with this but the double post is needed to mount the magnet -- how long can it be though until someone makes a stand that does this?
Wanted to use this:

I think I just got lucky 😂
I was checking this link throughout the day: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PZHYWJS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_hA8.Fb2MCEB1Q
It was completely out of stock with a “notify me” button, but then at like 11pm it flipped to “in stock, delivers by Friday” so I jumped on it.
Looks like now they are estimating a restock in February 😭
I agree that he waterfield APM case is overpriced, but I also feel that way about all their bags. Given the cheaper solutions on ebay selling for about $30 (shipping/tax/etc), $60 would have been a fair price for this.
I bought this one from Amazon. Should be delivered by the end of the week. Listing says it will put them in low power mode.

Could there be issues there?
Spigen has a stand that has a curve that follows the curve of the elastic headband.... that is if you're looking for a stand. It won't hurt them. I have it and it rests the weight on the stainless bands instead of the elastic part, so no damage. :)
Can you please link the exact cable you love so much? THis one just cuts out the sound from the tv, it does not play over my AirPods Max.

I have the one by Spigen, without the cups. It has some space for the headband to prevent deforming
I know about an accessory that will probably prevent it from loosening but it gets really uncomfortable after using it even for a couple of minutes, I say it’s not worth it but here it is:
With how good they sound, and how great they are in the ecosystem, I find it hard to go to anything else either.
This is the case I use. Spigen Klasden Designed for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098SSW16Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Don’t have that one, using this one. Went for it because the handle is formed to the headband.
AirPods Max ear cushions are made of PET textile-covered polyurethane memory foam, which may contain isocyanates that can trigger certain allergic reactions like irritation of the skin for some people. The good news is, you can replace your AirPods Max ear pads, with some good quality third-party options.
I bought these - Egg Protein:
https://www.amazon.com/Earpads-AirPods-Replacement-Cushions-Airpods/dp/B094H1TZT9?th=1
I'm in the market for a stand too- was wondering if anyone else has experience with either of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097JPMXJ6 https://www.amazon.com/SUPERONE-Headphone-Headset-Adjustable-Rotating/dp/B087WK2YZG - more of a cradle that allows APM to go into low power mode without the bra.
Oof, that is a lot for shipping... I was considering it if it wasn't too much, but was also looking at this one https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08RBVHYNR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A166OYWLNXM0LR&psc=1.
I might go with it since it seems to have the same main features as well.
If you wanted high quality, comfortable headphones that mesh into the apple ecosystem very well, then yeah, that’s a great price. About what I paid 3-4 months ago. The price value can only be justified by you, ultimately.
As for a case, I have this one. I transfer mine in my backpack. The wobble a little bit in there, mostly the headband but not enough to be worried about.
This is the case I have. Simple, no frills does the job and isn’t hideous.
Spigen Klasden Designed for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098SSW16Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Why do you want to connect it to an iphone with a wire instead of bluetooth? You aren't gaining anything other than the inconvenience of a wire. If you want it louder coming out of the iphone then you could use a portable headphone amp like the fiio q3
I use this one, from CoStySee: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09TZYMNH7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
It is attractive, stable, supports the headband by the edges so it isn’t stretching the springy mesh, and the magnets work to activate sleep mode.
I got these for the ear cups: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08TTZ8GWF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And these for the headband: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B093WPBV91/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And then I got a charging stand, though I don't recommend the brand I picked, as sometimes it doesn't power down the headphones properly. Check the reviews there. The covers are just thin plastic sheets made to fit; I'm sure any of the nine million Chinese brands available on Amazon would all be fine.
Good to know! Not using the official Apple one, using one off of Amazon I found when I bought the headphones.
I have Apple Care but I also bought ear cup covers. They’re pretty cool but there are cheaper ones around too. Check this out! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098J6T8X9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_dp_HKTMZD2M5R7ACMTDNKYZ

I just got my own APM and found them to be a hassle to sync up to my computer. I tried 2 different bluetooth dongles that refused to pair with my APM before taking the plunge on buying this PCIe bluetooth/wifi card, which has worked like a charm.
This will help more so:
Dirt cheap and you can change up the colors. I have covers on the band, ear cushions and the cans 😆
That sucks. I was worried about that too recently. The mesh on mine has started to stretch and warp a bit for me. Have you tried using these even with the worn out mesh?
I also find the original APM ear cup a bit uncomfortable, so I bought this ear cushion cover, it is made of TPU. Since then, I find it is much more comfortable to wear and my ears don’t heat up as much.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08TV1DY6W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had this blue residue now on several pairs over the last 3 months. It is liquid ingress as you've described. It seems to me, after 8 days of using a brand new pair, that after taking them off, and plugging them in to charge (instead of charging them while wearing them), yesterday, and now today they are buzzing like mad. Took off the ear cups, and signs of corrosion begging on the headband terminals. I've cleaned them, and letting them dry, using my second pair recently back form the depo.
Apple better say something on Monday about the Airpods Max.
PS: check these covers out, they have vastly improved the allergy reaction to the earpads texture, and also reduced the overall condensation. However I still swap out ear cups to keep things cool. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TWJJ7SN
~15% makes the AMPs more like the Sony XM4.
Try these silicon covers for the original earcups, they work great for protecting your skin, creates less heat, less condensation.
Well to anyone interested I’ve tried several headband covers and this one is perfect 👍. You can choose from several different pads which you can pull off Velcro and it looks great. The outside is like a denim material. Looks really good on the space gray AirPods.
I also recommend the geekria silicon headband cover, it covers up the mesh so skin oils don’t get in. And you can just rinse it off with soap.

I must be missing something here. No 4K support and no Atmos. From Amazon:
You could just try using some covers for them?
I have these : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Urban-Designed-Airpods-Cover-Gray/dp/B08TTBDBN7
and also a silicone one which only cost a small amount from eBay.
I had some BAD skin reactions to a brand new pair of Airpods Max replaced at the store. Now whenever I have them replaced, I used these Natural Wipes to clean them first and it has helped keep my ears from having a reaction.
Is that the Belkin product? That’s not the one I’m referring to, but I can’t seem to find the one I have on the Apple Store.
I have this same issue with the Apple ear cups; I have sensitive skin. I bought these guys on Amazon and it resolved my issue. They’re not as acoustically perfect but I can wear them all day listening to music and participating in video calls, so it’s worth it to me.
I’ve been a big fan of these silicone headband and outer aluminum covers. Keeps the headband clean and the aluminum from getting scratched:

I got a similar protector case such as yourself; however, they are silicone and there is one protection for the mesh fabric but it’s on the bottom! I got this thingy to hang them, and it has been really usefulhttps://www.amazon.com/-/es/Vju-Soporte-auriculares-universal-plateado/dp/B08R5R58J5
The Waterfield case is definitely over the top; I travel a lot and like nice things so it works for me. There are other cases that looked fine on Amazon for roughly a third of the cost, those are probably good options. I would recommend a case, however, if you plan on sticking the APMs in a bag for any period of time. I don't care for the Apple "case" as it doesn't offer any protection from other stuff that might be in your bag.
I got these replacement ear cushions in "protein leather" (a.k.a. plastic) from Amazon for $35 and like them. They don't irritate my skin, so I can wear the APMs in meetings and while listening to music at work all day without any problems. The audio quality is a little diminished from the stock Apple cups, as would be expected with a third-party, low-quality item, but the APMs still sound better than my old Bose QC35IIs. If I want to really experience the audio for short periods of time, I swap out the Apple cups. But again, I can't use them for more than an hour or so without getting skin irritation.
i have had APM since they came out and i almost never use them because after 10m my ears are sweating. i would look into these elago Ear Hooks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083B97J41/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_GJKBT1CT8BXJ7XTJCGP8
these are great but annoying having to take them in and off
Just get a silicone cover for the band. It just covers the bottom part and is super low profile. It doesn’t feel like anything or pull my hair at all either. Definitely recommend. I’ve had it for a month or so now and it’s still pristine white. But, silicone is easy to clean.. plus, it’s $8.

Hey, so I realised my mistake: the ambiguous title of that product made me think they were actual ear pads made of silicon, rather than just a silicone cover for the existing ear pads.
But I also ordered kwmobile replacement ear pads, and I don't seem to react to those. HOWEVER, I'm still having a reaction to the the airpods max when I wear them. The kwmobile ear pads don't smell of chemicals and I can hold them against my ears with no reaction, but the when on the headphones and on my head... after several hours, I react. It could be that the airpods max have accumulated VOC containing dust in the inside, from the memory foam earpads, and that gets driven out by the sound waves. Or I could be reacting to some other chemical used in the production of internal components.
Sucks. In any event, the kwmobile earpads are great and might solve your problem.

Can’t really find anything. Came up with some creative solutions. But in the end just gonna use my backpack. There’s a guy that makes 10x10 messenger bags on Etsy that I might eventually pick up.

I've settled on these:
Actually designed for the APM, so won't have to do any dodgy glue operations. Made with silica gel, which I have never had a problem with. Fingers crossed this is the ticket.

I purchased this case: https://www.amazon.ca/UltraShell-Compatible-Headphones-Immediately-Replacement/dp/B08R91RBT7
Because I don’t have to retract the headband everytime I put my APM away. I’m very satisfied with the case
I will address your concerns in the order posted:
The case you chose will 100% pertect your APM, however judging by the picture you will have to retract the telescopic arms every time to make the APM fit in the case. If you have a bigger head you might find this annoying. I would recommend the geekria case I ordered. I’m in Canada so the Amazon link is different: https://www.amazon.ca/UltraShell-Compatible-Headphones-Immediately-Replacement/dp/B08R91RBT7
Concerning defects. The ear cup humidity is something some people complain about. I have never encountered this, despite using my APM in the Canadian cold.
I’m the same, I obsessed about keeping APM safe so I ordered a pair of these: https://www.google.ca/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjfpqG7_Ib1AhUSqMgKHVhuC78YABABGgJxdQ&ae=2&sig=AOD64_1mTiXAcA0_EJshrhy5CiqGoyIMjg&adurl&ctype=5&ved=2ahUKEwj5jJS7_Ib1AhU6gXIEHQ_-B70Qwg96BAgBECY They add a little bit of weight but they protect the ear cups really well without looking cheap and ugly. I would never use a silicone protector but that’s just me.
Lastly don’t worry about the headband snapping. The metal is extremely rugged, I would know because I got annoyed with the tight clamping and stretched my headphones over a beach ball for about a week. Even then the headband barely stretched so I wouldn’t worry at all with normal use. The thin mesh canopy is a little delicate so I’d avoid poking it with anything sharp.
I hope this helps with your concerns, sorry if there are any mistakes in my post.
I have a large head also. Just got my Maxes. Still wondering if I'll be able to take the fit. They just barely make it over my ears... I have AKG Pro Audio K553 MKII https://www.amazon.com/AKG-3280H00100-K553-MKII/dp/B00X3MT7F6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=AKG&qid=1640618296&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A17751346011&rnid=17751344011&s=aht&sr=1-1 The AKGs fit with room to spare.
The Maxes are a very different experience. I'll try to report back if I get used to this tight fit. Its a pity they didn't make them just a little bit bi9gger.
I recommend getting something like this
Protects the mesh, and it’s pretty comfortable.
Im bald so my headphones get super oily. It’s super easy to clean that silicon cover. Just take it off wipe it down with dish soap and put it back on.

So far after just trying them on for a few minutes, the memory foam really seems a bit more comfortable than the stock Apple ones.
Thoughts on the look?

You guys can thank me later! Just purchased a black to go with my other silver cable so I can plug into my guitar amp. No issues connecting with my APM, braided, re-enforced ends, pick your color, realistic length and it almost half the price of Apples baby cord.
What's not to Love?!!
Nice! You’ll definitely like them. I recommend getting protection for them, like silicone covers. I use these and they have come in handy so many times https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SJCR8WW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_KWW3HHSQVQ8NPFY1D2P1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That hurts to look at. I couldn’t even take the clank of the two earphones banging together at the bottom. These eliminated the fear of that happening at all, and you can still see that beautiful metal: Nereides Bumper Case Compatible with Airpod Max Headphones Anti-Scratch Soft TPU Protective Cover Shock Resistant Headset Protective Accessories Cases (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0915DWBJH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3GM35P6AY7G7E062E8QG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
After buying and returning a few, i ended up keeping this one! Like the fit and how slim it is!

I have this one:
Seems to put them to sleep and is a lot smaller than most of the other cases I’ve seen.
I just bought this case a couple of days ago. So far I really like it. An excellent "small but sturdy" case. I wish the slot for the cable was big enough to put more things or if there was a compartment. I think I would like two zippers instead of one. I give it 4.5 stars.

I found this via a recommendation from some Google search I did a few months ago and this works perfectly. Cheers
Swapping the headband is done with a little tool, that separates the ear cups from the two connectors. This will void the warranty of course, if you tell Apple you did this. Second, to get a different headband currently you have to trade with someone else. I have taken mine apart once or twice when the unit had "fried" out. Severe static in the left or right ear cup. The connector itself can get damaged, so swapping headbands can possible cause you problems. Until your 12 month limited warranty is up, I would hesitate getting a replacement headband. Try distilled vinegar diluted with water 1:10 ratio, the smell goes away in 5 min. Soft cleaning cloth, etc. Search on that method, and it should help keep things clean.
I have seen 3rd party headband "wraps" that may work from Amazon.
