Oh thats good to know :)
I buy my shrimp sticks at amazon. They come in different variety of flavors. This one is bee pollen flavor.
This is the link
SF6006 Shrimp Sticks Protein 10... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DN47XYF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Actually i just called “flavors” but what i meant to say is they have different variety of these sticks. I bought the protein, Astaxanthin, minerals, and bee pollen variety. They have also walnut, spinach and algae variety.
You can find the description of each variety in their website
SF6006 Shrimp Sticks Protein 10... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DN47XYF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hope this helps :)
I would suggest getting the following first:
- Tank (Also buy a filter if your tank doesn't come with one)
- Heater
- Substrate
- Plant
- Hardscape
- Fish food
Once you scape your tank you should add a pinch of fish food to start off the Nitrogen Cycle
And over the next 2-6 months you should constantly check your water conditions. Once you have 0 ppm of amonia and nitrite you will be able to add livestock To the tank.
If you do have any more questions or you just need help just DM me and I'll be happy to help!
Homey this tank is too beautiful for that big ass drop checker up front, try one like these: Senzeal Hang On CO2 Drop Checker Glass Aquarium Monitor CO2 Indicator for Planted Fish Tank https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q7FGGP9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_21ZBCNT65MMPARJ3BFFX

Its a shrimp stick!!!!
I got my shrimp stick at amazon, i got 4 varieties of it (protein, astaxanthin, mineral and bee pollen) The one they are munchin is mineral variety.

Filter, though I'll take it as a compliment that it blends in that well lol 😄 it's an Aquaclear 20, bought on Amazon. I'd highly recommend it 👍
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000260FVG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Thank you 😊 it's a Hygger led light, purchased on Amazon. It was pretty inexpensive but it seems to grow my plants well, and keeps a neat and tidy aesthetic.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XBSY32G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I'd suggest adding Cyperus Helferi to the back of the tank (tbh they are one of my fav plants to have). They're very flowy and great for fish to swim through. They need root tabs but I've had great success growing them without CO2 injections, I do use liquid CO2 though.
Here's the Amazon link for the plants, the seller has been very reliable for me: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07NMTSDSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_A5HRW364RP9N418BVHNK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It’s the 266gph model, it’s a great filter super quiet and has a built in uv bulb. And a great price as well!
I’m actually after Axelrodia Riesie but unfortunately they are not available in my pet store, but they do offer red rummy nose tetra, which they have a similar look, what do you think?! And yeah I’m using Mxmoonant 3 Head Ultrasonic Mist Maker from Amazon... I’ve added the link below 👇🏻👇🏻as it’s safe for the aquarium use
I will add, that for a budget, this budget light is a favorite amongst the serious you tubers. It has way more output and LEDs than the typical ones on Amazon.
In my experience, it is capable of putting out enough light to grow Ludwigia Panatal, a very light hungry plant, to the point of it being extremely red and even wilting the top leaves a bit, before adding a dimmer.
I bought double leaf aquatic grass off amazon (link below). Theyre out of stock but im sure you can find others. They grew within 3 weeks with the dry start method and then i flooded the tank. They dont spread like real dwarfhair but they also dont cost a fortune and they look beautiful and lush if you keep it trimmed. Ive had zero plant deaths and it's been a full year so far even after adding medicine which killed all my jungle vals
Basically mixing citric acid with baking soda will produce c02 gas. I got my whole setup running with about $50
Don't know if I can post links but https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W7H4J8V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_S29A9HVJGZK7QE004ZGD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That is just about perfect, thanks!
Think this one would be overkill for a hardscape tank? I like the idea of point lighting but if it's too bright the stingray seems like a better option. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07236CXBQ/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A272AHJMCEAKQE&psc=1
I actually already have this model I use in a plastic grow tub over the summer. I'm hoping that's comparable to your reccomendation. Thanks so much for your help :)
I think you should change to a clay-based aquarium soil. I suggest using Fluval Stratum
https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Plant-Shrimp-Stratum-4-4-Pound/dp/B00JGQIY48/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=aqua+soil&qid=1611110434&sr=8-1 this is the link on amazon its very nutrient rich it will do the trick. I used it for my 3 Gallon Nano tank
I love it! I can tell that you clearly put a lot of TLC into this tank. The little volcano bubbler is adorable and you have it perfectly stocked with what looks like a mystery snail and a gorgeous betta. Maybe consider a higher quality light? I think it might make the colors of the betta pop a bit more. You can get a pretty good LED light on Amazon like this one: LED light
Weird i cant find it. This is the closest i got:

Hi!! Thank you for adding all the excellent info!
So from what you've said... It sounds like I have a few things going on. Mostly is the lack of food for my plants.
I have about 1.5" of sand in my tank. Going to bring that level back up 2.5-3" soonish.
I went pretty conservative on the amount of fertilizer I added, so as not to cause some sort of algae or diatom bloom. I added about 1 or less root tabs per plant, and not buried to the bottom. Maybe those nutrients are leaking into the water and helping the new algae grow I'm seeing. I also added some water fertilizer, but a little less than the instructions said, for the same reason.
My light is this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09CL8HL7Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
I have it on the automatic light cycle. On at dawn, off at sundown. It sounds like that is not helping my algae situation.
So maybe it sounds like:
Get more sand.
Get more root tabs.
Decrease the light duration.
Get easy plants that don't require as many nutrients.

Do you have any recommendations for plants that might work in my anemic environment?
On other thing that is interesting. When my aquarium was newish, and I had blasting sand substrate (nutrients in blasting sand?) my plants did much better. That's probably due to all the nitrates/nitrites in the water correct? No that my water situation is great for the fish, plants not so happy :-(
Thanks again for all your help and taking the time to help guide a rookie!
I’ve had both DHG and mini DHG and got both to carpet without CO2. I really feel like what it needs the most is high light intensity. Currently I have mini DHG using the same substrate, and it’s carpeted nicely no CO2 and no ferts or root tabs. Currently running my light 8 hours a day. Heres the link to the light I use. It’s affordable and works great. I don’t recommend using the 24/7 feature. Instead, I set it to max and have it plugged into a timer. Hope this helps.
Hmm, hard to tell from the picture, but that tubing looks like airline tubing to me. You need to buy tubing rated for use in a CO2 system. It's more rigid and won't expand at the same rate as normal tubing when under pressure.
My guess is that the pressure in the tubing is causing it to expand and flare out enough that the connection point between the tubing and the diffuser isn't tight.
Let me know if you have more questions!
I bought a chihiros wrgb2 a week ago to test it out. Immediately see insane difference vs my finnex fugeray planted+ and the finnex was one of the best lights I've owned for the price. I love the new chihiros so much that I ended up buying the chihiros wrgb2 pro version about 5 mins ago on Amazon.
these are a god send and put out some heat which happens to be a bonus for me and my tanks atm. keeps my room at a more stable temp
The Walstead method is what you're trying to do. There are websites that describe it but you can get a kindle version of the book.
Good budget filter Has UV sterilizer and decent flow rate. I’ve been using one on my 60 breeder for about 6mo and it’s worked great.
I'm starting my first (heavily) planted tank and I'm shopping lights right now myself. Don't know if they're on your radar, but check out the finnex alc-20. It's $72 on Amazon and it seems that like Brawndo, it's got what plants crave. Height isn't adjustable, but can't complain at that price. Looks pretty discrete too.
Thank you! I bought it off Chewy (I believe it was this one) and was pleasantly surprised with what came. I did see that people received boring pieces, so I guess I just got lucky.
I don't think it would be terribly difficult. Just depends on how much time you want to take to give it the TLC it needs. For me personally, I used like a 2 foot long pipe cleaner which is kind of like a wire with a brush on the end and I would try and shove it through the lily pipe and down the clear hosing. Sometimes it the pipe cleaner would get stuck and then that would become a scary situation. You have to be fairly gentle with these lily pipes because I know that they are known to snap/break if you're too rough with them. Another useful tool I found was this little gadget. It's basically a piece of velcro attached to a magnet and then a tiny magnet. You're able to maneuver it much easier around the inside of the lily pipe and through the vinyl hose. Just be careful not to have your filter running or it could easily get sucked into the filter.
I agree with these comments in this thread but as a planted tank /shrimp owner (read:careful gravel cleaner)
I use this EHEIM battery charged cleaner: https://www.chewy.com/eheim-quick-vac-automatic-gravel/dp/157994?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12789772272&utm_content=Eheim&utm_term=&gbraid=0AAAAADmQ2V1aRBD8EFY0Ec3zf8BRF9zQh&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhoWC...
It’s sooo much stronger than a pump-to-start water change and can siphon those poops up pretty easily while recycling the water. Con is water changes are separate days.
Thank you!! The in-tank power head definitely contributed to heat, but by how much I am not sure. If you have the money to spare, I would get something like this (what I use). There a definitely higher quality options as well.
Then all you would need is some tubing of your choice and an inflow outflow. By using this, you avoid the heat problem with power heads and you can run external equipment like a co2 reactor/in-line diffuser or an in-line heater and declutter your tank.
I use one of these instead. It's a fraction of the price of the python and works great! https://www.amazon.com/Laifoo-Aquarium-Changer-Cleaner-Cleaning/dp/B07J4DCHKX/ref=zg\_bs\_3048856011\_38/136-4944884-5229944?pd\_rd\_i=B09W49TJYB&th=1
Not affiliated in any way but I bought this little tool from Amazon about a year ago that helped tremendously with cleaning the hoses where those wire pipe cleaners can't reach into.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GX22IK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Just gotta make sure you don't have your filter running or it will suck the little velcro magnet up haha.
I'm restarting my aquarium, as I had to deconstruct my old one when I moved. I think this time I'm gonna go for black tubing and stainless steel lily pipes because at least that way I can't tell it's dirty inside lol
I use black out film for windows like this on all of my tanks. Just cut a piece to size and apply it to the back of the tank. The best part is that it’s completely reusable.
I would put a black backing on so that the colors pop more and it hides the cables and tubes in the back.
Harder to do when everything is in, but this stuff is pretty easy to apply:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077XWJKQZ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm using this with all the default filter medias. And OK, I'll lower the brightness to 33%. By default easy green says to do 1 pump per 10 gal half a week, so maybe I should dose 20 gal again?

This is what I use in my 10gal tank and it works great.
I was looking at Hygger (specifically this one) but cancelled my order after reading a few reviews about it getting extremely hot and nearly starting a fire in one persons house.
Not a pro - bought this one, meets all of your requirements except: I can't speak to longevity/reliability have only had it for about a month but I haven't had any issues with it. And it has optional RGB+Night effects.
Thanks! It's actually not gravel but soil https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0842RR9PD?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. The sand is pretty solid on its end so I don't anticipate it being an issue. The soil is likely to get pushed down, which is why I had the seiryu stones there as a natural barrier.
My overall goals is to have the left fairly heavily planted to complement the driftwood while maybe some floaters over the top of the sand areas while leaving the floor bare, kind of a beach meets forest look.
I appreciate it, I use a diy co2 generator and a splitter:

Here's what's currently growing in the tank:
Süsswassertang (not entirely sure, but the plant shows an undeniable resemblence)
Java moss
Staurogyne Repens
Bacopa caroliniana
Baby dwarf tears (i never have much luck with them so i expected melting anyway)
Red root floaters
The only two that are melting are the floaters and tears, but I'm more concerned about the floaters, given they should technically be getting the most light.
As for the light, it's not terribly powerful, but I am using sand as a cap substrate for more light reflection around the tank.
I have the 9W version, here's the link:

question, the sponge filter is this:

I use FZone Mini Dual Stage which has adapter for paintball canister or if you want to use a standard such as 5 pound tank. It’s a dual stage, so it will help prevent an end of tank dump when the co2 runs low.
Here’s an article about growing red plants. It requires proper equipment to do it right. I also recommend browsing the rest of 2HR aquarists articles, especially about CO2.
Was the ammonia spike just from not removing the melted plants? You could try changing your substrate to see if it helps? I have a clay substrate and i cover that with aquarium gravel, I personally really like the clay cause it gives a lot of nutrients to all my plants, they grew so fast with it

Its in the OG post comments but here’s and extra link
Some unappreciative pos downed my last comment here ( prolly my damn neighbor ) but I’d be up to make a few seconds clip etc to show something if you had a question.
Another thing is the range for the bluetooth is very limited. By like almost a couple feet. You won’t be across the room making adjustments. Other than that it’s a nice light. I like the shimmer effect and penetration that pendants w/lenses offer but color wise this this is nice. There is some banding because the various LED types are not scattered about on the board and more in basic pattern which is a common issue w/RGB LED designs. Some people use diffuser backing on their lights ( same stuff on some tanks back walls ) I don’t think it’s much an issue tho for the price.
I got this one, it was pretty cheap but seems to be doing okay so far. Very low hum noise when running and you can't hear it at all more than a foot a way. Plenty of water flow and is fairly adjustable in terms of tube placement and height. There's also a little attachment for a bubbler but I didn't use it since there's plenty of surface motion and water circulation.
Whatever you end up getting, you may want to consider getting a filter sponge for the intake. i have the same canister filter (its fantastic) but here:

When I was a teenager I would ferment apple juice in a one gallon jug and pipe the co2 into the impeller of my filter. It worked really dang well for a shitty pruno reactor and cost next to nothing. (You can use sugar water and yeast, too. I just obviously had such a refined palate back then)
If you want to get really bare bones but don't trust your plumbing and tubing skills you could get something like this

The link below is to the kit I got, which comes with plenty of tubing. I tried using a yeast-based reactor before this, but found I keep my house too cool in the winter to sustain the yeast. The citric acid setup is working great though
Probably something like this. My understanding is it uses ultrasonic vibrations to atomize the water and then the natural air currents of the room make the mist move around. So it's just water, nothing chemical. Should be 100% safe for most or all living things.

A black background will definitely help. Turn off all the room lights to avoid any reflections off the glass. Put your phone of a tripod or stand of some sort to ensure it’s not moving. Shoot strain on with the aquarium as centered and squared as possible. Definitely edit your photos to crop and match your eye until you’re satisfied.
Great book I recommend that has more info on photographing your tank with a smart phone plus a ton of other info on setting up beautiful aquascapes is also linked below, it helped me a ton and made my aquarium hobby that much more enjoyable.
Limited-time deal: Aquascaping: A Step-by-Step Guide to Planting, Styling, and Maintaining Beautiful Aquariums https://www.amazon.com/dp/1510753389/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_dl_WC6ZQBW7339CVVAE5694?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

And 2 others that I picked up used.
I would just use suspended 32 Watt Par38 grow lights.
I use these GE Lighting Grow Light PAR38 Light Bulb, Full Spectrum, 32-Watts, 1-Pack https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07NNT3G7J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_0K8M0VX51A9PM5C2ZPT9?psc=1
Surprisingly the light in the flex does a pretty good job with plants you can run the regular white lights and mix in either reds or blue. But I haven’t had any problems with plants growing in it. Best Monte Carlo carpet I have is in that tank.
This is what I run in all of my tanks for ferts it’s a all in one and I dose it every day before the lights come on and it’s been awesome stuff.

That's a set but you can find that pressure thing alone from Noname brands. Tropica also just brands it.
That with a SodaStream lasts for around 8 months on my 60l with a lot of fast growers under a chihiros wrgb 1 No idea on the watt 30 to 40 I guess. Lumen per liter is a better way to compare this, IMHO.
And get a CO2 Perma Test for 20mg and aim for a dark green color.
Also: measure your nutrients. Get a proper fertilizer A good beginner is Tropica Specialized Nutrition or Tropica Premium Nutrition depending on your fish quantity
