Maybe you can try getting something like this one? These are really bright and can help a lot when you are riding in the dark!
I forget which ones I originally bought but theyre something like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Q3SRRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_22XZ1G1QQNS5PJSDRNS9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I had to use spacers on the bar in the video, which worked out fine, but I wasn't paying attention to the sizes on purchase
Searches for "flat bar handlebars" will get you going in the right direction
Bungies more than likely, about 8' or so, I'd go to a hardware store and check the areas where they keep locks and towing like items. Once you see the bag on the rack it'll be easier to determine how to secure it
I like to use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PXRNMLE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_5MHQR9GR88P3QGF0J873?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Hi, I'm very new to biking so please excuse my newbie questions.
I recently picked up a 1987 Trek 1000 and I was hoping to find a bike rack and/or basket combo to put on the rear. Trouble is as I don't know where to mount a rear rack let alone which of the many bike racks online to choose from. I've been researching for hours and no closer to a solution. I would prefer something lightweight that can hold the weight of 1 small grocery bag or backpack.
I've been looking at the Topeak Explorer Rack, but don't know if it is compatible so I thought alternatively a Topeak QR Beam Rack MTXmight be better because it mounts the seat post? What do you all think? I've included photos of my bike.
I love supercycle. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.osborntech.supercycle
Has some rough edges but the dev is actively adding features, uses very little battery and is 100% configurable. Optionally can sync with Strava, and it's all free.
On my phone it definitely works while locked. Only if on max battery saving mode it looses gps tracking for some sections, but app keeps recording.
Personally, I like anything rolltop and water proof/resistant, also super into finding the perfect bags lol
I would suggest looking into brands with more cycling in mind. Two easy ones: Timbuk2 and Chrome Industries
I recently picked up a Chrome Industries Urban Ex: https://www.chromeindustries.com/product/urban-ex-rolltop-28l-backpack/BG-218.html
The model I have is an earlier version, not as refined as this one, basically a dry bag with shoulder straps. I like it though, giant sack more or less that's completely water proof. Downside of my earlier model I'd say mainly is that it's already showing signs of wear within 5 months of every day use. However, prior to this purchase I was 100% against Chrome because of their marketing and high prices for mass produced/non-custom bags. After this, even with the defects, I can say I'll consider them again in the future.
I'm a daily commuter, in fact, don't own a car so waterproof and comfortable are high demand for me. Generally speaking though it comes down to how well the bag handles the ride. Can't have any shifting, discomfort, difficulty maintaining, etc. I once had a 20L Jansport day bag that was absolutely phenomenal however didn't last long. In fact, they discontinued it all together haha but this one is very similar to what I had: https://www.amazon.com/JanSport-Unisex-Tahoma-27/dp/B07N91W1B4
Other brands to consider: Thule, Arc'teryx, Northface, and maybe some I'm forgetting.
If not waterproof, see if it comes with a raincover, they tend to work better in some cases anyway. If you aren't familiar with bag sizing, for your use you'll want pretty much anything btwn 20L and 30L, 30 being very spacious and possibly more than you'll want to deal with for every day use.
Hope this helps your search!
If you are concerned about your feet slipping off the pedals you might want to change your pedals to the type with metal pegs that will grip your shoes better. They helped me a lot. Something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Mountain-Aluminum-Lightweight-Platform-Bike-Red/dp/B08JPWV4M2/ref=dp\_prsubs\_3?pd\_rd\_i=B09WTWD6MB&psc=1
Hahaha, they worked great for a a long time. I started noticing I was squinting with them on and the last instance was some blue paint on the street that the county laid down and the reflection off that was unbearable. (I have seen my eye doctor, and the only thing wrong was dry eyes)
These are the ones I got. So far so good.

I bought this when I was recovering from a fractured wrist. You can either use the resistance of the trainer or use your gears. I wanted to use my gears. The noise of the back tire was quiet.
I wish you the best.
I’m about 1.5 weeks into using this one: https://sunnyhealthfitness.com/collections/cycle-bikes/products/sunny-health-and-fitness-sf-b1805-magnetic-belt-drive-indoor-cycling-bike-with-high-weight-capacity-and-tablet-holder
Feels really solid and survived a fall caused by the delivery guy. 😅
Here’s a write up of my full setup, which I use with Peloton Digital: https://write.as/refriedpigeon/diy-indoor-bike-for-peloton-digital
What kind of bike light do you have?
I ride at night often and it's not a problem at all, just don't cheap out on the light.
Look into high-quality rechargeable ones from brands like Cygolite or Magicshine, at least 800 lumens.
I have one on my handlebars and one for my helmet, that way the road is always lit but also I can turn to the sides and be able to see fine.
This is my favorite light for open roads since is small and compact and lasts forever: https://cygolite.com/product/expilion-850-usb/
I bring this one out for when I'm mountain biking in the middle of trees etc: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y441QT2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Oh no, not the same at all, these kinds of lights can be brighter, and have a wider spread/angle so you can see better!
Not sure if you have Amazon but give one of these a chance: https://www.amazon.com/Cygolite-Metro-Rechargeable-Light-Black/dp/B07541BN8H/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=cygolight&qid=1603305669&sr=8-1&th=1
Highly recommend Nite Rider products. I have the Micro 650 and it lights up the road, trails very well. Reasonably priced at $69.99 with the Sabre 80 for the rear light. Obviously you can spend more and get more Lumins. Definitely get USB rechargeable. The micro is a little more stubby than long. Depends on your personal al preference, but I liked the micro for it’s smaller size.
I also like to buy from a local bike shop or REI.

If you do winter riding on roads than buy bike lights that will really help you and keep you safe
Covid masks well not surgical ones, I’ve never wore one of those full face ones so im not sure, preferably I’d use one of these

I wouldn't have thought of that, but it makes sense. I have this one... DAWAY Comfortable Men Women Bike... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NGZR13O?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I raised my seat as someone else here suggested. That seems to have helped a lot.
