I wash my scalp with Nizoral (I mix it with water and put it into one of those squeezy bottles that they use for ketchup/mustard and apply it directly to my scalp). This cream is a lifesaver for me when my hair is in protective styles - I use it in between washes and apply it directly to my scalp every day. It's a mix of salicylic acid, sulfur and hydrocortisone, so it both eliminates dandruff and immediately soothes itchiness.
Do your normal wash routine but make your last rinse cold water. Dry your hair with an old t-shirt (not a towel) And let it air dry almost completely before you put any product in. Then use your oils & leave-in of choice. But take whatever curl product you use (Shea Moisture curl milk for me) and mix it with mousse. 50/50. Do about 5-6 big braids and go to to sleep (with a bonnet, or course). If you really want to stunt, put some raw shea butter on the end of each braid, comb it thru with a thinner toothed comb and twist it around your finger a few times to make a perfect curl at the end. When you wake up the next day, put a little moisturizer on the ends of your fingers as you take down each braid. Separate the strains and fluff as you go along. When everything is out, start to pick out your hair. I use the pick end of this But ONLY THE BASE! Start at your scalp and go about half way up your hair all the way around. Use hair spray as needed. For the front, you want to preserver the curls so come at that section from behind and use a good amount of hair spray. At the end of the day, just braid it back up, and re-fluff in the morning. It should last a week if you braid it up at night. If you hair is fine, like mine, it may look better the 2nd day you do it. Waiting until it's mostly dry and the mousse give my fine hair the illusion of volume. When I used to do wet braid-outs like the rest of the naturals, I used to look ridiculous.
I got it from Amazon 😭bonnet
Hey! It looks like your hair might not be fully absorbing the product possibly due to your detangling method. I really suggest getting a detangling brush made for natural curly hair(there’s a bunch on Amazon and any beauty supply store) and making sure your hair is fully saturated with water and conditioner, then finger detangle or use the wide tooth comb first, and then brush the conditioner through with a natural hair detangling brush. My cousin was having the same dilemma and this really worked for him. But it’s possible this is your natural texture, and if that’s the case, embrace it! It’s beautiful and unique!
Here are some links to a couple brushes I love:
Don't use a sponge brush, they dry out your hair.
Use something like this

I think the first thing you need to do is go to a barber and get everything lined up. It's long enough to do a haircut like this, just ask the barber to leave it long on the top do the sides close but not skin tight. Then you'll need to sponge curl the top, you can get them at a black hair botique (Ex. Sally's) or Amazon for less than $10.

Btw, Here this one i was referring to: https://www.amazon.com/Sprayer-Continuous-Styling-Cleaning-Misting/dp/B07W5S412S/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Spray+Mist+Bottle&qid=1610891564&sr=8-5

I use that cheap one from Amazon. Works great and only took about a week to get used to it vs my Mach 3.
I got this hair on Amazon it comes with 6 packs

I swear by this argan oil shampoo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004YRTZG0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_4AksE83VXAVs3
I also use this super moisturising hair food; no build-up at all it's like 98% natural/biodegradable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07L5WGS2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_6OJoOBhDOjpHB
Used to have dandruff and also a super itchy scalp, now no dandruff AT ALL and occasionally an itchy scalp if I don't take the time to moisturise properly. I wash my hair once a week but feel free to tailor it to your hair!
Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Mane Choice Growth Oil. Keep manipulation of those hairs to a minimum (tapers, fades, line-up etc.) and manage expectations. You’re not going to have a lush hairline in that area (probably due to genetics) but it should fill in quite nicely. Be patient.
There are plenty of NATURAL shampoo and conditioners for that coily curly 4c.
Cantu Cream shampoo and Conditioner
Cantu is an amazing product that I've personally used as well. My porcity is very low so I can relate the need for good moisturizing products.
You also have Shea Moisture which is again an all natural product that has both conditioner and shampoos and I believe the website is also black-owned so those are just a couple you could try if you have not already
Literally ordering some aloe Vera juice right now lol! It's the Lily of the Desert: Aloe Vera Juice (Whole Leaf filtered)
Currently using SheaMoisture Styling Lotion for my hair but im running out. Should i buy more or do you recommend something else? My hair is very short
By this picture I assume you’re hair type is 3c (correct me if I’m wrong) so since you have unraveling problems i suggest you start with the 2 strand twist method and when you’re gonna wash your twist if you wanna reduce unraveling as much as possible wear a stocking cap
Frizzy ends are the worst! When I was braiding, sometimes the hair would tangle up and I had to throw it away and start a new braid. I secured the braid with a rubber band (you can kind of see them above each curl where the braiding stops) so maybe try rubber bands?
The curls might also be due to the type of hair I used? I bought this hair off of Amazon (the only major downside to it is that the shipping was unreliable, the hair came three weeks later than expected) Here is a link to the braiding hair
I hope this helps! Best of luck!
Here you go friendo. Check the reviews so you can see how easy it is. You gon be fresh in no time.
Hey OP ignore all of the wise ass jokes. Super anoying when people ask questions and they just joke and don't even answer your question
To get your hair like that you'll need to get a temp fade. You'll want to trim the sides but leave hair up on top. You'll want a hair sponge (Twist comb). You'll want this
You'll want to wash your hair once a week, and condition it. And just put in some leave in conditioner every morning and you'll be good
The link
But is really expensive here lol i buy it for 5 euros at my local black hair shop
Oh Lord, never use Cantu. Their products cause so much damage and can even lead to hair loss. I use Carol's daughter or Shea Moisture shampoo and I'm about to try Mielle, since I love their leave in. For conditioner Carol's daughter or Mielle are both good, but personally I use [Redken all soft conditioner]https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SSCQH77/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_R22XWR617S5V77E6KRGW_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1). It's not a black hair care line so I won't recommend it but it's done miracles for my hair.
Posting again bc automod deleted:
He can try, he’d have to clean up the sides and his hairline and use a sponge with moisturizer of some kind.
On a side note, it looks like he’s dealing with something like tinea versicolor or dermatitis on his face. This soap was recommended to me by a dermatologist to treat facial skin irritation, maybe you’d be interested in looking into it: Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_3Q7PW1NYKQE4F5ZG14RC_1
For this, I used this pre-shampoo treatment. I sprayed my hair with water and worked it through with a detangling brush. I really liked it, just have to keep it moist. For the rest of washday, I alternate between Mielle and Olaplex products.
Afro kinky human hair wig with bangs! Get it extra long and pick it out so it's nice and big!
This could also just be a wig with a headband. Here’s a link to one that’s looks exactly like this picture. Faster and less commitment than locking the hair.loc wig
Looks like a dome style wig cap, this is the thicker version. I used to use them to make wigs. But they’re using is as a protective cap. They also sell them at the beauty supply in individual packs.
Looks like razor bumps so try this out which works really good I just got rid of my razor bumps under my chin and my barber recommended it it's called B&C Skin Tight B&C 1001 Skin Tight Ointment Regular For Razor Bumps & Ingrown Hair, for Men & Women, 4 Ounce (118ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S938Z2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_GVAH38PJ1G69V9BJ2VEZ
I've never understood why it always end up looking dry though. Like I remember just the other day my friend telling me it looks dry the same day I washed it.
It's weird because even now when I run my hand through the hair, I get a bit of grease feel from the oil but at the same time the hair itself feels dry and frizzy.
Each wash day I'd wash, condition, rinse with warm-hot water till it's soaking wet! Then I'd apply oil, leave-in, and so on, but it'd still turn out looking like it's dehydrated once it dries.
And to your comment, I've tried a clarifying shampoo from texture id: (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXVZQMT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_SA0493TTKE2E2R5XQ9KV?psc=1)
I didn't see any signs of hydration or curling after using it. So then I switched to head and shoulders: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CJ8D9DD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_TGT6W0MES70K5WNHKZM9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Same result with this one too. The only reasons for why this is happening I could think of are:
1: the shampoos/products I'm using are drying my hair out and I need to use light cream-like shampoos and conditioners
Or
2: I have low porosity
Or
3: my hairs too thick or all of the above
I'm still pretty new to this as it's my first time growing it out past an inch. So I'm not sure which products to buy from here on, and I also I don't wanna keep buying products that end up not working. What do you think?
Keep it moisturized with Wild Hair Oil on Amazon Wild Growth Hair Oil - 4oz/118.291ml by Wild Growth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JVDK8K8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_XMDACHPSHN7T40VDBMHR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I found that you have to consistently wash and condition hair when not braided. Not every day but one wash between braids isn't enough if you are struggling with flakes. I also use head and shoulders shampoo which does wonders for aging overall. When your hair is braided you should every other day or so apply some tee tree or castor oil or whatever your favorite oil is to the parts to keep it from drying. After applying these steps between 2 to 3 hair braid cycles you should notice a major difference. Also I found this to be helpful for itching and flaking when hair is braided.

My brother used to experience this a lot when getting his hair cut. He uses this and it’s helped a lot! Have him try it out for like a week to see if any difference happens :)
Here’s a 4$ soft boar bristle brush. It will make your hair neat without the breakage of a comb
Diane 100% Soft Boar Bristle Brush for Men and Women – Soft Bristles for Fine to Medium Hair – Use for Smoothing, Wave Styles, Soft on Scalp, Club Handle, D8169 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019ZCX46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_C8R717SVGQ1NMMXBAGF8
Also, metal is very bad for your hair! It’s too solid and pretty much guaranteed to cause breakage. This is why you shouldn’t use a metal pick either, use a plastic one instead.
Thanks for your time, and yes, you were helpful! The locs themselves are pretty thin (bought on amazon, link to the ones I got for reference: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GDFZLCN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
I think they were just made for the cornrow method, as it was too thin to pull through too. I managed to wrap a very thin braid, but it still was poking through. I am probably gonna try the "wrap extra hair" method as it seems promising and easier.
Alright I’m a 4c girl but I will try to help as best I can 😭 1) if you haven’t got one already, get a good wide tooth comb. Like…BIG and wide. Your hair is very thick and I can imagine you’ve broken a few brushes lol. And go to the beauty supply and get a good detangler brush
2) Make sure you’re detangling from the end to the root. Start with short strokes at the ends of your hair, and slowly work your way up to the root.
3) for me personally, I detangle on damp hair. Idk some people detangle on dry hair and it works for them 🤷🏾♀️
4) with products, unfortunately that’s mostly experimental. We can’t gauge how your hair will respond from behind a screen. All I can say is products with a thicker consistency work better for me because my hair is coarse and naturally dry. You might want to try thicker products if you struggle with dryness, but because of your hair texture, you probably only need like a pea sized amount.
5) I do protein or keratin treatments like once a month and it had REALLY helped my hair ❤️
Sorry that was super lengthy but I hope this helps. You have a beautiful head of hair :)
From what you’ve said I think it’s matted, and if he doesn’t want to cut it, then I’d advise detangling it and doing a hair treatment, although cutting it would probably be way more viable in the event that it’s just like completely damaged. From then on, you should encourage him to get a protective style, specifically twists, to better protect his hair and ensure even more growth. If his hairs already growing fast, then a protective style will only accelerate that.
I don’t have much of my products off hand at the moment, but I do have my moisturizer: BB Oil Moisturizer 32 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005R5F5NK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MY4NP174FEGKRJY9D2TH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Yeah, definitely don't wash your hair everyday, but maybe once a week will work better instead of once every 2 weeks? You could try it and see if you like it better, your hair will get more moisture since you're drenching it more often
I've never heard of that conditioner before, but it says "Hot oil treatment" so it's a more oil based conditioner, maybe your hair doesn't like oil based conditioners much? I would try something less creamy, typically the looser the texture the thinner the conditioner...maybe try something like this? I've tried it and it's pretty good
>So you don't use shampoo or deep conditionerf
I've been told that shampooing every day is bad so I just use once every two week. I brought this Can you tell me if it's a good or bad conditioner? It might explain why I don't see a difference.
my mom has this foam brush that she uses to like massage her hair? she has a 4c curl pattern and a short cut and it seems to help her? something like this
and maybe you could try putting in the shea butter and oil after you put the leave in every day and see if that helps you!
https://www.amazon.com/Taliah-Waajid-Protective-Coconut-Conditioner/dp/B07344K84Y. I loved this for my knotless braids. thanks for what you are doing
Not really if you plan to hold it by the handle I hold it around the actual brush part because my hair is thick and any unexpected tangle with make anything I use fly out of my hand (my poor blow dryer…). It gives me more control that way.

So yea there’s this thing online called the self cut system it’s a 3 way mirror that can be hung up and some come with led lights built in. I bought this one on Amazon SELF FIND 3 Way Mirror for Self Hair Cutting with Ring Light,Upgrated LED Trifold Mirror,Rechargeable 360 Mirror for Hair Tools,Light and Height Adjustableself cut system I bought
It’s fine, thanks for responding I appreciate it; by triangular do you mean this? or something pointy like this?
I can only speak from experience, but my mother would comb my hair daily to every other day until I was in 7th grade. It took her no more than 40 minutes (my braids came down to the middle of my back at this age). It takes me about a half hour now at the same cadence. If I don’t follow that routine, it will take me 90 minutes (aka knots galore). My hair is a little past my shoulders/right above my bust (in braids) if that helps for a reference?
And I agree - braids help a ton!! Depending on how dry my hair is, l section my hair either in half or in quarters and use Cantù (I know a LOT of people don’t like this brand, but it is the only thing that works for me - trial and error) to keep it moisturized. If my hair is too dry, its prone to knots too.
And I use a Wet brand comb.
I hope this clarifies my post.
And use the curling Sponge Brush for texture. Rub across your hair in a circular motion.
I’ve used different things but what seems to work best for me is Briogeo scalp scrub before shampooing and the scalp mask while conditioning. The mask really softens my new growth and I’ve noticed the my scalp doesn’t build up for over a week, which is big for me! It is a bit pricy though. https://briogeohair.com/collections/scalp/products/scalp-revival-scalp-soothing-solutions-set I’ve also used Cantu Scalp Rinse (Cantu Refresh Root Rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil, 12 Fluid Ounce (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0TNXS6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_5P3G0GQG2H94STRS94A3) and that helped get the flakes off and keep them off for a while. Tea tree oil (diluted with a carrier oil or water) works too. I think you’ll have to do trial and error bc things that work for some might not work for you. I understand your struggle and it took me a while to find the right product for me. You don’t want something super drying-it will work on your scalp but then dry your hair out. Finding the right balance will be tricky. Good luck!
I order off of Amazon, but you can find MCT oil in most grocery stores (because it's actually edible. You can cook with it too! Same as coconut oil.)
I'd say start with this one: https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Certified-Vegetarian-Gluten-Free/dp/B0181U4TOI
It's only 13.00 so if it doesn't work for you, you're not out 30.00. But if it works, get the 30.00 bigger bottle and let it work for you! I also mix it into my deep-conditioners from time to time. Not too much because it messes with the conditioner, but just a little squirt here or there to bring some life into my hair.
Whats up. I use this shampoo & conditioner. My hair gets dry super quickly, what are some tips to promote hair growth and moisture? Should i condition daily? Leave in conditioner? I would prefer not to take any vitamins. Thanks for the help.
Always use proper hair shears, there are cheap options out there. Also, invest in a 3 way mirror. This is the one I just bought, but there are cheaper options. It helps a lot when you can see the back of your head. Also, trim with straightened hair. Blown out hair is more than straight enough.
A mulberry skin turban from Amazon has been working great. It is a bit roomy so not gonna work if you are rocking a buzz cut or something like that. But. This is great for curls.

Check Amazon slouchy beanie sleep caps. I got one a while back that I love. Doesn't move at night, some are adjustable and it looks like a regular slouchy beanie if you need to run out but don't want to take it off. Lined with satin I believe. Breathable as well. Castor oil alone won't arrest alopecia. Read up on the role of DHT in hair loss.
Also, depending on the porosity of your hair, castor oil may not be absorbed. If you want to use a castor oil, consider this one. For low porosity hair, jojoba and tea tree would be better. Rosemary and Tea Tree are known DHT blockers and both of these products are fairly widely distributed -- including Sally's Beauty Supply if there's one near you.
I co-sign with OP on the bonnets. Sleep caps are another good alternative, I bought some a few weeks back and I’ve been liking them because I can wear them outside like a regular beanie or to bed like a bonnet.
You should look on amazon for products similar to Nudred sponge. Even its not nudred you can find other dread sponges that have two sides. One side is many small points, to create smaller twists, and the other side has bigger points to make big twists. I recommend this, cheaper than the other choices and you get 4 sponges. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075GN1X83/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_YHGBVTE6H1A6A9ZA2T17
Sorry here's a good example of a single blade safety from amazon
I'm about 3.5" right now, and I either lay it back or (attempt to) curl it. I use a moisturizer spray, which I brush through, followed by a small amount of styling gel. I can either brush it down with the gel or "rake and shake" with my fingers for curls.
Yes, I get it from Amazon. Here's a link to the last rhassoul clay I bought, though any of the brands are probably fine. Start with mixing 1/4 cup of clay with water until you get the right consistency. That should be more than enough for hair your length.

The kit has taper sizes that go from the tiniest size (14g earring hole size) up to “00” size (i think). You start with the smallest taper & as your ears stretch & adjust to one size, you move up to the next & you continue to do this method until you get to your desired size. Gauge Stretching Kit
I bought and used the curl sponge here. I also used a bit of castor oil, Cantu leave in conditioner and Curl Activator Gel.
Low-key a fear of mine for later on! Only at 2.5 inches now but thinking I might have to get cornrows once my hair gets longer, even with my sometimes itchy scalp.
For build up, I recommend using this hair food: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07L5WGS2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_6OJoOBhDOjpHB
Super moisturising but also mostly water, at worst you'll get white flecks of lotion in your hair if you put more than it can absorb.
My plan is to just rinse/wash and moisturise often with the cornrows in, even if it messes it up and gets it frizzy, and then either wear a durag over it or redo it if it gets out of hand.
Also got a video for how to do cornrows yourself to cut down on hairdresser costs: https://youtu.be/Nn6M7lHTln4

A co-wash is a gentle moisturizing cleanser for your hair. Think about how your hair feels before and after you use conditioner, that’s the difference a co-wash can make. I order all of my stuff from amazon as far as oils. Once in a while I will grab something from the “urban” hair section at the supermarket. Just try to find items with the least amount of ingredients. You want natural organic oils in your hair and on your skin.
Of the three, I prefer the Argan oil Leave-In. Keel in mind though that Cantu does contain some ingredients that can be drying though it does work for some people.
I would suggest the Elasta QP Leave-In Conditioner. All of the ingredients are good for your hair and it smells soooooo good. It's a little pricier on Amazon than the Cantu, but in stores it's generally around the same price.

I know! I hate that we have to resort to grocery or trash bags. I found this on amazon and am going to try it out. 🤞🏾

Bruh 4c hair is r o u g h I'm having the same issue rn. When my hair is super short my ringlets come back but I'm growing it out rn to give myself box braids later this month and I miss them so bad. I ordered a curl cream off amazon tho so maybe that might help, I'll have to see. I just got this leave in conditioner and it did really great at taking out some of the really coarse frizz, I was even able to brush it with my rat tail comb but yeah I find that mine just kinda likes to sit there and be a mass on top of my head a lot 😑
I think they should have electric ones that are specifically for line ups, this razor was found with a quick amazon search
Thanks! I see. So if i go that route, would i then not need a Smoothie Cream for curl enhancing? It's this Shea curl enhancing product i have that was meant for putting on for styling and moisture like a leave in conditioner, but i've found it mostly just leaves my hair very dry with residue in it after a couple hours. Can i effectively replace that with a leave-in conditioner (and it hopefully not have the same drying/dusty effect)?
You can get braids when you hair grows longer it will take more than a year
Hairstyle: Cut the sides and get a taper fade from the barber
Products: apply shea moisture leave in conditioner after you wash your hair: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shea-Moisture-Jamaican-Strengthen-Conditioner/dp/B00MXD6GBY/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=shea+moisture+conditioner&qid=1558201417&s=gateway&sr=8-6
Hairstyle alone: https://youtu.be/NRNyf8RClNs
Also wear a durag when you go to sleep
The only product in my hair in this gif is the KeraCare leave-in conditioner which I combed through after washing and deep conditioning for 30m.
I use As I Am Double Butter Cream and Kinky Curly. Put a palm-sized dollop of each in your hair right after a shower when it's still wet. Maybe they're not the products for you, but try them out and always stay mousturized.
By far the best I've used.
Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AINMFAC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kcyNAbJ6QZVW1
I shampoo once a week and condition/moisturize everyday. But obviously do what works best for you and your situation.
I don't use this shampoo all the time though. But you mentioned dandruff shampoos, and it's a good one to have in your arsenal.
I have and use a Wahl professional clipper and The Wahl detailers for line up. I got These guards because the #1.5 gaurd that comes with most Wahl clippers are trash and fall off (mine did and after research seems it is a common problem). I also have a generic shavette razor that I use for making my line up tighter. Also, Wahl professionals do not come with guards!
Tips that I could give would be go slow and be patient at first. Like I mentioned above it took me a while to feel confident to go with a skin fade and so I would do #1-#2 fades (AKA shadow fades or more like tapers ) but once you get the feel for it its really not all that hard. Here is a couple videos that helped me. The first is the method I use for fading. Bald out - blade open - work the line to closed - #.5 open- work to close - etc til I get to #2 where it blends into the top. The second video was my inspo but the videos on that channel are mostly fire cuts and he gives a lot of good tips. 3rd vid is another guy who has a lot of fire cuts and uses a method similar to what I do. Good Luck if you try it out. And if you do try it out post some pics!!
What do you use to chase your hair? Is it something like this?
I meant in terms of prepping your hair. Do you deep condition? Do you shampoo? Etc.
Have you tried doing the clear wrap method? Or maybe try doing the Dominican method on your hair?
I've been growing my beard for about a month now. Looks full around the jaw line but not on my checks. I was told to get this product from Shea Moisture
SheaMoisture Shea Butter Beard Softener & Skin Protector - 2 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CDX0HBY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_Yk5bkaIr4Yszo
Been using for about two weeks and it does make my beard softer. Anything else I can do?
I've never used product until literally today :x The ones that have the product in it are the ones with me in the red shirt

That's what I used/tried out today, and I love it. Only day I've ever used it but it gave life to my hair, and for the first time in my life I actually feel I could do something with my hair hahah
Some really naive and incorrect advice here. I have studied this and other skin issues for more than 20 years. Hair texture and skin sensitivity are the two key factors for razor bumps. The angle at which your hair is cut out can cause ingrown hairs. The hygiene of clippers can also be a factor. But I have seen people develop razor bumps after using brand new clippers. The first thing you need to do is to understand your hair type and skin sensitivity. Apply witch hazel nightly to soothe the irritation and inflammation (do a patch test first). In addition to that I would immediately cease the method that was used to cut your hair. Without examining your scalp and identifying your skin type, I would allow your skin to heal and then avoid a wet shave with a razor. Wahl have developed a razor that cuts curly hair at a different angle to prevent ingrown hairs. Give it a try
I know a guy who had great success with a product called Skin Tight. His ingrown hairs were more severe than yours.
Even though they have negative connotations (and are absolutely used as insults), I use kinky and nappy because I'm consciously assigning positive meaning to it - taking back the words so to say.
Years ago, I bought the book Happy To Be Nappy because I wanted my future children to embrace both their hair and the word.
Sulfonate is something I avoid as I've read its basically another kind of sulfate. I'd go more for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Palmers-Formula-Moisture-Repair-Shampoo/dp/B00KCPHODO/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1451335394&sr=1-1&keywords=afro+hair+shampoo+shea
You can use a magic twist brush for that look.
here is a youtube video on how to do it.
