Orajel can help for a little bit. I got this product off of amazon and it’s totally worth it. I started getting a canker, put this canker rid stuff on it a couple of times a day for maybe two days, and it was gone before it could even fully mature
Oh. My. God.. You win.
Kank-A SoftBrush Tooth/Mouth Pain Gel, Maximum Strength, 0.07 Ounce (Pack of 3) More information: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GCU0RE/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_RTM7ZNH5A0XA0FESWKFX
It isn't available in the US market without an Rx, you have two options. You can spend $$$ and buy the Irish/EU one on amazon like I did, you'll get in 3 or 4 days in the US.
Or you can spend $ and buy the one distributed out of of Hong Kong from an ebay seller.
The ironic thing is they're both made in the US!
The only issue I had with the hong kong version is the shipping would have taken up to 2 weeks, bu I have some on order now to keep on hand for next time.
$20 a dose is stupid expensive.
The other option is to find a GOOD local compounding pharmacy. Chain stores, even the one that offer compounding, have been awful in my experience.
Just wanted to throw this product out there for anyone who deals with canker sores (as I get them a lot (like 5+ a month)). These are a life saver; one time use on each sore in your mouth and the pain is gone in literally seconds. Promise! I’ve tried everything — magic mouthwash, peroxide mouthwash, alum powder, numbing agents. It costs a bit, but it’s pennies compared to the pain canker sores creates without it.
Oralmedic Mouth Ulcer and Canker Sore Treatment, Instant Pain Relief - Pack of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_15DQJN679ZG4CNB1HF9Y?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm on board with that amount! If you're close to losing your sanity get yourself some debacterol or oralmedic. Chemically cauterize those hell spawn. Good luck!
UGH that one looks sooooo painful!!!! 🥺 Debactoral or oralmedic !!!!!!!
Oralmedic Mouth Ulcer and Canker Sore Treatment, Instant Pain Relief - Pack of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_TRPA2A69G19CEGBTX9AB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Damn. That looks painful.
I have not tried it myself, but you can try Oralmedic.
Keep in mind, this chemically cauterizes the sore, so it will hurt like hell, but the good folks on this sub recommend it--I'm paraphrasing, but the word is that once you get past the initial burn, the pain stops and the sore is gone almost the next day.
Have you tried Oralmedic? It’s literally the only thing that’s ever stopped my canker sores in it’s tracks. Definitely a game changer. Hurts like hell for 10-30 seconds. Swells up for a few hours. Pain-free within like 15 mins give or take.
Ugh that's tough, sorry! Ive done that before too... really hurts. Might have to numb it and give it some vitamins :) Have you tried Oral Armor? It helps to improve your immune system, lower stress, and protect your mouth tissues. I take it everyday now and so does my mom - she has lip "issues".
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088TFG798
To numb I was using Lidocaine gel last year when I had really bad ones... think you might need a prescription for that though. I'm religious about oral armor at this point to be safe... and it helps with hangovers since it's got electrolytes too haha.
I've been suffering with about 15 on my tongue, complete inability to eat or sleep for 4 days, reached wits end, found this subreddit. The top 10 tips recommend a product called "Debactorl" which you can only get with a prescription. However if you are able to order from outside the US, you can use a product called "OralMedic." I used it for the first time yesterday, it is just an off brand Debactrol
The pain was immense, like one of the worst things I've ever felt, but I was desperate.
The result? I slept 12 hours last night. I ate food. I can drink today. I have 5 left to deal with, and I have ordered 2 more batches of it.
I very very very strongly recommend it for desperate situations: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oralmedic-Mouth-Ulcer-Treatment-0-2ml/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1J9XGD78H5SGW&keywords=OralMedic&qid=1666423966&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjMyIiwicXNhIjoiMS44OSIsInFzcCI6IjIuMDIifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=oralmedic%2Caps%2C...
The only thing that has worked to stop them for me when I bite my lips is applying Canker Shield. Somehow it just stops them before they turn into canker sores. I noticed some people in the reviews said the same thing. You could also try a peroxide rinse to keep out bacteria and mitigate damage.
You should try out Canker Shield. I used to use saltwater rinse, but this stuff works way better and significantly speeds up the healing. Best of luck, that one looks no fun.
Yeah, I notice the same thing in the mornings. I am not sure why. I started using Canker Shield before bed and in the morning and it makes such a big difference. It heals them up so quickly.
Did L-lysine ever work? And by work I mean elimination of canker sores after taking 2-3 grams of L-lysine for a week or so.
L-lysine doesn't work for everyone. If your sores aren't caused by a virus then it won't have an effect. Canker sores aren't caused by L-lysine deficiency, some of them are caused by a viruse and L-lysine interferes with the viral replication.
Make sure you're getting good sleep etc. Maybe consider trying the Luminence Red device (I've not tried it, but some people say it works well).
Hang in there!
I had canker sores 'all my life' - what a huge hassle and I tried so many of those cures that are for making them heal sooner after you get them. Fuck that. Let's try not getting them. In my case (and I hear, many people's case) it was simply a matter of switching to an SLS free toothpaste. My favorite isn't made anymore, but this one works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I080OQY
Sorry to hear that. I have had them since as long as I remember and so has my mom. I think a lot of times it can be genetic. I think I decreased mine through supplementing vitamin b12, lysine and folic acid daily. I had tried every single treatment method out there and none of them worked for me except for this one called Canker Shield on Amazon. Might be worth a shot as a last ditch effort trying out treatments, if you haven’t already tried it. Also, are you using toothpaste and mouthwashes that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate? If so, that additive commonly causes canker sores so I would recommend natural ones if you do not already.
The same exact thing used to happen to me until I found Canker Shield. I just apply it a few times after the incident and it doesn’t ever develop into a canker sore. Seriously a game changer.
Nature Made Extra Strength L-Lysine 1000 mg Tablets, 60 Count for Protein Synthesis https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DJAR5/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_M40V99K2ZJS367ARZ381
I usually find it at every grocery store
So sorry to hear, that sounds terrible. Oragel will do nothing to speed up healing. I recommend Canker Shield since it really speeds up the healing process significantly. I would also keep the peroxide going 3x a day. Best of luck!
Lots of kanka , orajel mouthwash for mouth sores, and tears...I hardly eat or drink water when they're this bad (or talk even) because every movement of my mouth hurts so chapstick is also a life saver!
I currently have several all over my mouth, tongue, and one on my left tonsil. Last night I put a few drops of this in my mouth and swished it around and let it hit the ones far back in my mouth, basically making a rinse...it helped relieve the pain enough that I fell asleep easily
Sorry to hear. I would highly recommend taking b12 and lysine daily if you don’t already. Canker sores can definitely be caused by hormones, especially before and during your period due to a shift in progesterone. Unfortunately, if that is the main cause, there is not a whole lot you can do other than some of the things you are already doing. One thing I would recommend is to find an effective treatment. I have found Canker Shield really helpful to swish when I have multiple at the same time to speed up healing. It has natural herbs and vitamins that really make them heal a lot faster, especially when you catch them early. It might be worth getting some blood work done as well to see if you are deficient in any other vitamins that could be causing it. Taking vitamins is great, but vitamins found naturally in food are often more bioavailable and absorb better.
Yes great tips. They truly do ruin your life for a good week. Supplementing Lysine, Folic Acid, and B12 can significantly help with prevention. Try to avoid any foods that you think are triggering them. Make sure you find an SLS free toothpaste. Numbing products are great for pain relief, I have found Canker Shield to be really effective for speeding up the healing process significantly. Best of luck to you and you are not alone!!
I really like numbing lozenges. They are the only thing that brings immediate relief. This is what I buy.
My go to product to stop/heal emerging canker sores is Canker Shield. As soon as I bite my lip or feel one forming I use it a couple times and it pretty much gets rid of it by the next day. I have not found anything else that works as well. You could try rinsing with saltwater or peroxide as well to slow it down. Best of luck!
I'm sorry Debacterol isn't available for you!
What about Oralmedic? Would that be available in Norway?
https://www.amazon.com/Oralmedic-Mouth-Ulcer-Treatment-Healthcenter/dp/B0015X5ZW4
Oralmedic stopped the pain from my canker sore immediately! If it is available to ship to Norway, then I highly recommend it!
Canker Shield works extremely for me to heal them early on before they get super bad. Saltwater rinse can also be beneficial.
Oof. This is a bit costly but check out: Oralmedic Mouth Ulcer and Canker Sore Treatment, Instant Pain Relief (2 treatments swabs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_1N860463K5EBQ5V0C3W4
It could help make those heal quicker.
Also if youre interested in a prevantative method, chexk out: https://www.cankershield.com/
You also mentioned that you get them often so I also recommend taking vitamins everyday or every other day. I take l-lysine, b12, omega 3, zinc, and vitamin D. There are other vitamins typically mentioned in this sub too. Do some reading on which vitamins may be useful to you.
The combination of these 3 plus using a sls free toothpaste has significantly reduce the frequency and severity of my ulcers.
Best of luck to you, and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
This is a bit costly for two applications but it's suppose to help seal canker sores: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_ZNW03EH71GB1X27DZ01V
You could try this too if you wanted more options.
I’m still new at this Reddit. It’s called Alum and McCormick makes it.
McCormick Alum, 1.9 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008KQAS3U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FSM1EGQN9JJYQ1BYWNPW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Disclaimer: I am not trained in medicine. At all.
For about $20 you can try the daily regiment of L-Lysine supplements (Amazon) and multivitamins (Amazon) containing Vitamin B-12 and Folic Acid. This needs to be every day.
So far this seems to help quite a number of people, myself included. But not everyone.
Reasoning: canker sores grow in size because of an immune system trigger from invading bacteria from a small wound in your mouth. Part of that immune response are the phagocytes that kamikaze and kill everything in its path, including healthy tissue (causing the canker to grow and worsen).
Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-A, ignore the word "tumor" as it's nothing to do with cancer) controls these phagocytes, telling them either to eat bacteria or explode and kill everything. A deficiency in L-Lysine, Vitamin B-12 and Folic Acid seems to cause a deficiency in TNF-A, which means your body isn't able to tell the phagocytes to quit destroying healthy cells.
You can do a Google search on "L-Lysine, Vitamin-B12 and Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha" on several research papers if you're interested.
I used canker aid, some bee thingy. Works pretty good. https://www.amazon.com/Canker-Rid%C2%AE-Immediate-Restore-Quality-GUARANTEED/dp/B003AS74JO/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=canker+aid&qid=1631904316&sr=8-2
I don't know if it's the canker aid that helped heal mine fast because mines was already healing for 3-4 days before i ordered this shit from amazon prime. but it did numb the sore for a solid 1/4 of the day and I could eat and sleep and it was p good for that numbing effect
I'm also taking B-12, like 100,000% the daily value. 2 pills, one sublingual dissolve and one oral. It's water soluble so you piss out any excess so it should be okay.
As well as Lysine.
Looks like you're wearing invisalign? i think? if so you can get some of this https://www.amazon.com/GUM-Orthodontic-Mint-Vitamin-Aloe/dp/B07KQ9FF1J/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=invisalign%2Bwax&qid=1631623020&sr=8-5&th=1
These are my absolute go to in order to quickly heal a sore:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_9Q1F3N7J7SCACHKB3S96
In terms of long term prevention:
Avoid spicy, acidic, and any food that you realize provokes you. For me, that includes alcohol. Keep a jouranl of food sensitivities.
Vitamins to try taking: 2000mg of l-lysine 2000mg omega 3 1000 mcg b12 100 mg zinc
I used to get them consecutively for months at a time. Im down to 1 or 2 a month.
Hope any of this helps. Good luck stranger. Stay strong.
I feel so deeply sorry for you. I have this issue a couple times a year. I recently healed from an episode. My most immediate advice is seek a medical professional that can prescribe methylpredisone or predisone. Most doctors will hiss and fuss before they provide it. Demand it. Or find a doctor who will actually listen to your needs.
The follow advice for immediate relief is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_EQ76D3BZCG57S402W8JE
It's basically debacterol. Get 2 of these. It's unfortunately a tad bit pricey, but the pain is more costly imo.
Before I used the oralmedic, I would use: https://www.cankershield.com/
Again, a cost that adds up, but again, I was so fed up and desperately tried anything otc. And it helped.
Canker Shield dries your mouth while supposedly providing necessary healing nutrients. The dried out mouth allowed me to use oralmedic more efficiently.
If you need something even more immediate, buy Alum Powder from a grocery store. Place it on then ulcers and it dehydrates them. This allows a scab-like layer and a quicker healing process.
And finally, antiseptic mouthwash that does not contain sls.
All of these feel awful during initial usage, but after the pain subsides and you rinse your mouth with water, the deep stings and aches are dulled.
This is all the things I've found useful for myself. Do note that it fucks up the ph balance in your mouth and oral thrush becomes a thing.
I feel so awful for you. I really hope you find a moment of peace soon.
All of these hurt
Ugh nooooo. Last night, I tried to get down some warm tea called throat coat. I’ll link it here, but it’s in most grocery stores too: Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat, Seasonal Tea, Organic, 16 CT (Throat Coat, Pack - 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7H33MF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_W0QPH85NZPENDX9XCTF1
It at least got me to a point where I could sleep. Doesn’t taste great but I was desperate and nothing else was effective. Stay strong, soldier.
If you're willing to experiment, try taking a daily supplement of 1x 1000mg L-Lysine tablet (Amazon) and an adult multivitamin gummy dose (Target) of 2 gummies, which gives you the Vitamin B-12 you need. Total cost is less than $20. Try this for a month and come back and tell me if it has
I've posted somewhere in here the scientific studies that have shown a link between L-Lysine and Vitamin B-12 deficiency and the recurrence of canker sores. The cause of canker sores will vary, but one of the reasons they persist is basically an autoimmune disorder where your body is killing the cells around the initial injury site and making it worse.
I’ve never heard of cankerboy before. But yes looks like it contains both those vitamins. I’m not sure what the recommended dosage is but on another comment I wrote the dosage I have been taking. NOW Foods Supplements, L-Lysine (L-Lysine Hydrochloride) 1,000 mg, Double Strength, Amino Acid, 100 Tablets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z9361G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Q3NVYYNT2TEH1RZVD6BP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Take a daily dose of Vitamin B-12 and L-Lysine. And I mean daily.
The following is online research and I have no medical degree. Disclaimer.
Canker sores are a side effect of your immune system killing healthy cells that have been damaged, and they don't know when to quit. The message they get is called Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-a). Too much TNF-a causes canker sores. Vitamin B-12 and Lysine reduces TNF-a.
IMOH, salting a wound only dries it. And drying it out is a temporary measure.
You want to cauterize it, as doing so will create a "scab" that will seal it off.
Use alum powder, available from the store.
Alternatively, try CankerShield, which contains alum and many other ingredients that are vital for the healing part.
An expensive but OTC option is OralMedic
The same thing as OralMedic is Debacterol, but it's only available through prescription.
Lastly, if you're getting frequent canker sores then it's possible you are deficient in certain amino acids and vitamins, namely Vitamin B-12 and Lysine.
I could go on a long rant about why this is, but the TLDR is canker sores is an out-of-control immune system response, which is suppressed by sufficient Lysine and B-12. You can do a google search for those research papers.
You might be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals. There are several posts / comments about taking Vitamin B-12 (found in multivitamin gummies) and lysine supplements (pill form) that prevent canker sores from breaking out. This would have to be a change in your daily life where you are taking these supplements daily.
I'd also suggest avoiding spicy and acidic foods (like berries).
This change for me has come to a point where biting my lip results in no canker sore 9 out of 10 times.
In the meantime, you can try OralMedic, Kanka, or even CankerShield to help with your current sore.
Try this miracle product. It's over the counter debacterol. Relieves pain almost instantly, permanently. Chemically cauterizes the hell spawn. Good luck
Stress and soda do it for me, 2 weeks is quite long.
My recommendation as a mid 20's year old who used to get dozens a year and still deal with them during times of stress and when I drink quite a bit of soda.
Get a caustic pen , use any type of numbing gel or brush on the canker sore after its nice and numb, use your tooth brush and make it bleed and open the canker sore up. Afterwards use the caustic pen and close and that will seal it up. Another round of numbing stuff and head to bed. in the morning it won't hurt the rest of the time while healing and cutting the healing time to about week depending on the size. any pain killer like ibuprofen or Advil helps as well.
It took me a month before I saw results. I use this stuff : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4IEXJK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Q0Z35HJ03YXJ4AYJSD14
What brand did you find?
(I don't know if Im allowed to post Amazon links - I'll remove it if I need to.)
I don't understand why everyone on this sub tells people to get a prescription for debacterol. This is debacterol: https://www.amazon.com/Oralmedic-Mouth-Ulcer-Treatment-Healthcenter/dp/B0015X5ZW4/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-rsf-lq2a1_0?cv_ct_cx=oralmedic&dchild=1&keywords=oralmedic&pd_rd_i=B0015X5ZW4&pd_rd_r=11dcb3db-f078-4ab1-aa57-81ae027d468c&pd_rd_w=qpP0t&pd_rd_wg=lakwr&pf_rd_p=52f9c563-bb87-44f4-9d9d-e1c03402d90f&pf_rd_r=FK9WWBEM3SZ52KDC7AAX&psc=1&qid=1608915787&sr=1-1-d3e58e83-6458-471c-a87e-175495b96a10
This is the only thing that I think works... this or opiates.
Kank-A SoftBrush Tooth/Mouth Pain Gel, Maximum Strength, 0.07-Ounce (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GCU0RE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_3rjTFb38CZG3P
Oral armor helps with inflammation in addition to boosting your immune system, helping with sleep, and strengthening your mouth tissues. I do a half scoop morning and night :) Vitamins and herbs help! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088TFG798
Yea while writing my comment it did really feel like I was selling this product lmao. I thought about making a video showing my canker sores as proof. But I'm just so happy ANYTHING is working at this point and I wanted to share my enthousiasm and amazement.
This is Amazon's page for the product, and lots of reviews will tell you the same thing I did.
What worked for me is gargling warm salt water several times throughout the day, sometimes I even put salt directly on the sore. I also used Colgate Mouth Sore Rinse https://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Peroxyl-Mouth-Sore-Rinse/dp/B00WOSEKP2# and brushed my mouth regularly right after meals.
Try oral armor on amazon. I take it everyday 👍🏽
I've only been on it two months, but I swear by this supplement (basically a combo of everything thats ever been recommended for canker sores)
and this ointment / biofilm stuff:
Zilactin-B Long Lasting Mouth Sore Gel
The supplelment seems make them less frequent for me, and the few I've had since taking it have been much smaller and heal in a few days instead of weeks.
The gel (And that specific one, there are a few varieties) is AMAZING. You have to dry the sore, which sucks, and when you apply it its going to burn for about a minute while it dries which is awkward, but then it numbs it, and leaves a film that lasts for 4 up to 8 hours. As long as its intact you can barely tell you have a sore!
Seems some of us are just super susceptible. Not sure how to prevent them, I've cut out so many favorite foods... didn't really seem to help except for chips. I'll never eat potato chip again, or anything that sharp. Too risky.
When I get those I used to have to go for Heavy Narcotics because I couldn’t eat.. I’ve since found this. It works great to reach back of your throat. Blistex Kanka Soft Brush Tooth/Mouth Pain Gel, Professional Strength , 0.07-Ounce (2 g) (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GCU0RE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LiJ.AbJCTCFP2
Have you tried these? https://www.amazon.com/BarberUPP-Green-Stix-3/dp/B00QIZVTN8/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1498765054&sr=1-2&keywords=silver+nitrate+sticks I tried them because my ENT appointment never got made to cauterize cankers. I'm too chicken to use silver nitrate on myself but these sticks, produce pain that drops me to my knees for an hour, and then no more pain for ~12 hours with significantly faster healing time.
I just bought the Kank-A medicine on Amazon so hopefully if I use that in conjunction with those sticks, it will lessen my pain. What triggers cankers for you?
