Here are a couple of links to books about the history of this area. The first is a book called "My Life in the South" by Jacob Stroyer, who was a slave on the Kensington Plantation in Eastover right outside of Columbia. This one is free to download and a short read
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/15096
The second is mostly old pictures and a little reading. It is called Columbia SC from the Black America Series by Vennie Deas Moore, it's also available with the overdrive app for free

I did this route a few years ago. DO NOT use Corley Mill/378. It is deadly. DO NOT use Bush River, it is deadly.
If I were to do it again, I would do this route Nursery and Coldstream aren't exactly quiet roads, but definitely safer. Lake Murray blvd is kind of safe until you get to the overpass, then traffic can get tough, but far safer than Bush River Rd.
Maybe try Raven Cliff Falls trail up at Caesars Head State Park. I remember some nice views. Not too hard but not too easy.
is it a german cockroach? or a palmetto bug?
For palmetto bugs you are going to want to spread boric acid near where your water heater is and around your balcony doorway (assuming you have a balcony).
For German roaches, I highly recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/Advion-Cockroach-Tubes-Control-Syngenta/dp/B0148W0WOE/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=roach+bait+gel&qid=1599616459&sr=8-6
used that stuff as directed, do a once over of the corners every 6 months, haven't seen a roach in nearly 5 years.
Came here to say this! It's very, very easy to do yourself unless this is a special axe (weighted for throwing, antique, etc). Not only is it easy, but the files DR_BLACKTHORNE mentioned are very cheap. This is the first one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Nicholson-06706N-Axe-File-8-Inch/dp/B006DWT7HG/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&hvadid=78409048642766&hvbmt=bb&hvdev=c&hvqmt=b&keywords=mill+bastard+file&qid=1599758853&sr=8-1&tag=mh0b-20
You can also get 'em from Lowes or Home Depot. Be a little careful though, because a lot are sold without handles, so that's an additional purchase.
Pick a technology platform and learn to build something with it. If you don't know any code, head over to Code Academy to get some javascript basics and then maybe start looking into a simple web development platform like Meteor to learn to make some decent web apps.
Buy a book on web design and learn css so you at least understand HTML and how to make a site look good.
Maybe get an Android introduction and learn to make some simple mobile app.
Here is a type of pepper spray I recommend it sprays a gel, which gives it much longer ranger, makes it less affected by wind and you actually have to hit their face to affect them, which makes it less likely to catch you in blowback.
But I do really like the idea of an alarm. The louder the better.
Accuweather, which I think matches my thermometer at home a little better, has it even hotter. Including 104 on Friday, and two days at 106 next week.

I know this is old, but I'm just going to point out that fiber to ethernet converters have been around for a long, long time, are commonly used, and relatively cheap:

Guignard Clay Quarry Loop Trail
Little hidden gem near Columbia... Perfect time of the year to explore too because in the summer there are alot of snakes and a few gators.
Cowboy's has a Groupon......

I know it is at the edge of your distance that you would like to travel, but I highly recommend a camping/hiking trip on the Chattooga Trail. There are plenty of camp sites along the river and it is exceptionally beautiful. Many people outside of our state don't realize the western edge of our state is a rainforest. You can check out SCTrails for trails all over the state. Chatooga River Trail is about 14mi in total length, even though Alltrails says 8mi. It depends on where you start, but starting at HWY 28/Russell Bridge you can find amazing camping about every 2-3 miles.
Apparently they are having an issue with their transmitter. For now, you can stream it.

I use TuneIn, which has both Android and iOS apps, in addition to: https://tunein.com/radio/South-Carolina-Public-Radio-899-s30024/
Spectrum does fine for me. The issue is probably your wi-fi connection or something else... maybe you have a splitter between your line in and your router?
I made a poll for dates and times! Location TBD, but at the moment the only suggestion is Columbia Craft. I'm open to wherever though!
Ha it’s not really fun in this muggy weather. Neighbors might look at you funny too. Here’s the ones I got

Came here to say Quick Trip and also to get a portable compressor. I got one combined with a jump starter and it was one of the best buys I ever made. This is the one I got.

Yes! So much yes! Carry something to protect yourself with as well.
This is a very handy compact stun gun. It has a light/alarm/ and stun gun. You don't want to ever have to use it, but it's best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Looks like everything is all connected, so I'm not sure what else they have to do to "activate" the ports.
You can try testing the modem again, but if you end up having to pay them to do the work be sure to let me know what they did exactly.
Otherwise once you've confirmed the ports are live (or before if you don't want to move your modem around), go ahead and buy your MoCA adapters and hook them up. I got 2 of these and my desktop PC performs just as well as plugging straight into the router:

Just get a Norelco ball trimmer off of Amazon
I'm clumsy as hell and this thing is foolproof.
I bought a GE LED PAR-38 balanced-spectrum (greens and seeds) white grow light from Amazon, and it's been fantastic. It's not the horrible retina-melting pink of grow bulbs past, rather it just seems like any other household light (I mean, other than the fact that it's HUGE. Like HUGE huge, not just lol hyperbole huge). It's energy-efficient as hell, too. I hooked it up to a pendant plug, and then clamped that sucker to a heavy, out-of-commission antique floor lamp base/pole/doohickey. I can point it wherever needed, and my plants have been living for it - literally.
The bulb uses just 32 watts and doesn't put out a lot of heat, which I like a lot. I paid $13.24 for it in May, but currently it looks like it might be out of stock directly from Amazon, though, at the moment. Their info: "GE Grow Light LED with Balanced Light Spectrum for Seeds and Greens is designed to fit your plant's growth stage. GE's Grow Light uses a balanced spectrum with a red: blue ratio inspired by best practices of professional growers. The balanced spectrum allows not only chlorophyll but also other plant pigments to optimize their light harvesting. Compared to typical purple grow lights, the light features high PPF or Photosynthetic Photon Flux to provide more light for photosynthesis and growth. The white light appears more natural to the human eye"
