Old level system called Levolution ( not the tile stuff ) levels that were capable of being joined with the ability to true it. Completely expandable with a base 48” level. That all fit in a 48” bag side by side.
I own it and it works great, full 96” . I tried to get you a Google link and wasn’t able to find a used one for sale.
Might be worth keeping an eye out for it, if your problem is not going away.
In (somewhat) similar situation, I was able to use this concept mapping software (https://cmap.ihmc.us/) to manage a complex index to a large pile of documents. Not exactly the intended use, bit I was able to make a decision/concept hierarchy with clickable nodes that either opened new documents or sub-hierarchies. Can render out to HTML, PDF, and other formats.
Since it's the overlap of two industries (construction and technology), you can approach it from either direction. You'll gain more credibility if you find a way to learn how construction works (both theoretically and out on job sites) and apply technology to solve problems.
If you're a reader, Hugh Seaton published a book called The Construction Technology Handbook this year. I haven't read it yet, but it has some decent reviews. It might be a good introduction to help you determine what interests you.
