I think beards are a poor decision if you are wearing N95 masks that have the ability to make a seal.
For fabric face masks, my beard helps keep it in place so I don't have to adjust. These masks are more to protect others than myself, so I'm not as worried about a seal. I just worry about making a solid fashion statement with them at this point.
Once N95 masks become available to the non-essential worker bees such as myself, I'll shave my beard and wear them out and about.

Kf94. I have had great luck with these two kinds:

The first one is larger and adjustable straps. Both pass the "candle test." I teach in higher ed, have had numerous exposures and have not gotten sick so far. The BOTN were suggested to me by a colleague who has also had good luck with them.
They are also really comfortable to breathe in, and hold themselves away from your mouth and nose, but are snug around the edges.
I got this test from my kid's school. I don't have a compatible phone, and I'm not the type who wants a wifi-enabled toaster, so I went looking for info...
Unlike other tests with one negative and one positive line, this one appears to have two negative lines and one positive. The negative lines are in the upper half of the results window, and a positive will show up in the bottom half, but pretty close to the mid-line. So that's easy enough. But, they do not provide instructions on how to do the test - it appears they insist that you use the app for the entire process and not just results. I haven't looked for instructions yet, but I expect I'll find them.
There's a video here showing positive and negative results :

Mexico definitely caused an uptick in cases this past summer, as people crossed the border seeking better medical care. There are plenty of news articles out there on this:

What federal policy/policies would you like to see that would solve all of this?
I don't know how old your kid is. But we got the Hatch light for our 3 year old. It's amazing. He went from waking up from 5:30-6:30 to now doesn't come out until his light changes at 6:45.
Thought this might be useful to anyone wanting to share Exposure Notification resources with friends, family, and coworkers. The more people using this app, the better off we’ll all be!

I searched that controller on Amazon and there’s a slightly more expensive one that’s pre-wires with outlets. Looks to me like you could just plug the light bulb into it, no wiring.

Yeah, the thermostats come with probes to regulate the air or heat mat temperature for basking temps. You just plug the power cord in and make sure the probe is in the vicinity of the heat source. I just realized though that many of them do not support the ability to get to the temps you need. They will continue to heat the container until it reaches 140 F and turn off. Then start back up once it falls again, but it will not secure a temp of 158 F to 185 F. Here is an example on amazon, but they can be found at local stores. They are more expensive than a meat thermometer and a dimmer switch, but it might do a better job, if you can get it to hit the right temps.
