My hair is a bit longer than yours and OPs but I personally prefer this turban from amazon to a scarf as no matter how I tie it it falls off my head! I put all my hair upside down and put the turban on from the back and tuck my hair into the front it's been a game changer 😁
I like it, its versatile for styling
In my post history, the picture in the black top is styled by twirling with the Denman
The more recent picture (and what I do now) is brush upside down, being careful to not stick to the back of my head, and let curls form more naturally with tension styling. This is much faster and gives me more volume. This Inge Curls videos explains exactly what I do with the back
https://www.instagram.com/p/CFhuV9LFf3H/?igshid=ws8tulbrctyk
I bought mine from Boots and have the classic D3 Denman with 7 rows. I experimented with removing some rows but prefer it with all 7.
Edit: if you have Prime its a little cheaper
It looks amazing! Really beautiful waves, but I think with a bit of time, they will get a nice curl.

The as I am cowash is perfect to use on its own, it doesn't need any shampoo or low poo. Its a cleansing conditioner, so just need the one product. I love it so much, made my hair so clean and soft, but its too much moisture for my hair to use regularly.

If you are willing to spend some money to buy some products, there are some really great gels available online. Aussie Instant Freeze gel is such a winner. I don't think I've ever seen a curly not love it. Its only available in the US, but amazon deliver to the UK. Aussie Instant Freeze Gel comes in a pack of 3 too!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Treatment-Shampoo/dp/B003USIG6O
Here's the coconut free one - it's always out of stock though on Amazon, but you can buy it straight from CHS's website.
It is £10 a bottle so it is unfortunately quite expensive.
I think it might be this one, not sure because there’s lots of similar ones and I bought it a year ago! Scalp Massager, Shampoo Brush Hair Scrub Brush for Wet and Dry Hair, Soft Silicone Bristles Head Massager Clean Hair, Reduce Dandruff, Massage Scalp, Promote Hair Growth https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08DFPWK6L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_0nYaGb3BPSR27?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use this and it's been the best so far for me. There's also an olive oil one and I think a couple others too depending on what works and doesn't for your hair! I didn't find it too heavy and always get a good scrunch when I do scrunch.
You need to protect your hair when you sleep. Silk pillow case, silk bonnet or silk scarf will all help stop it knotting up in the night. I found this type of bonnet most comfortable to sleep in. You can get them cheaper, I got mine from ebay but these are the same and there's 2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bonnet-Sleeping-Curly-Bonnets-Elastic/dp/B0B5RL4HT4/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=Hair+Bonnet+for+Sleeping&qid=1665181693&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI2LjEzIiwicXNhIjoiNi4xMCIsInFzcCI6IjUuODAifQ%3D%3D&sr=8-8
I usually need a lot of moisture, but I find that I need to clarify regularly when the moisturisers build up over time. I like As I Am Curl Clarity Shampoo because it gently clarifies my hair. I use it every 1-2 weeks.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remington-Hairdryer-Concentrator-Diffuser-Worldwide/dp/B01NCAPBDW. I have this one, it's basic but it does the job! It's not super small but I've managed to pack it in with my hand luggage only 5 night trip when my normal hairdryer would have taken up the whole case!
Are you looking for a diffuser attachment to go on an existing dryer or a whole dryer with a diffuser attachment? Welshiecurlgurl on Instagram sue a post here comparing the dyson, shark and belissima. The shark was on offer over the bank holiday weekend for £150 (and an extra 10% off if you are nhs staff and ordered on their website with a code from health service discounts). I use a Diva 500 dryer with this diffuser attachment
I have this Babyliss one - had it for 2 and a bit years and it’s grand. Really powerful and not heavy. My mum, sister and best friend all bought it after trying mine (but all wear their hair straight). The diffuser bowl isn’t massive but I tend to hover diffuse
I admit, I don’t do a full hairdry, I usually just use this to kick start, or to finish off (that’s just because it takes too long), but I’ve been using this one for about 8 years now, and have no complaints: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TRESemme-5543U-Salon-Professional-Diffuser/dp/B003SWZT62/ref=asc\_df\_B003SWZT62/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310642411145&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2279297774631486517&hvpone=&hvptwo=&am...
I bought this one 2 years ago, still going strong. It's extendable and comfortably fits my small nozzle dryer. Diffuser
My absolute favourite is the Tangle Teezer Wet Detangler. Not certain if that's what you're describing. Amazon link
This is my favourite bonnet - I swear by it! Nothing else feels as comfortable. I do wrap a satin scarf around it as a safety net as I'm a restless sleeper 😅 https://www.amazon.com/Evolve-Exotics-Satin-Sunset-Bonnet/dp/B01AJQ6LRK
I'm autistic with an incredibly sensitive scalp, is he capable of brushing (or being taught to brush) it himself? That was literally the only thing that I could do, anything else felt like someone was trying to rip my scalp out. For detangling products, the thing I do is to nearly soak my hair with water and add some kind of conditioner, very thin probably so that you don't have to rub the hair too much to rub it in. I've also had a brief look on amazon for bristle brushes which might be softer to pull through the tangles and found this one which is marketed for babies so should be super super soft: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Molylove-Wooden-Bristles-Newborns-Toddlers/dp/B07XPS253G/ref=asc_df_B07XPS253G/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=435727765122&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10891907975777172916&hvpone=&hvptwo=&... And maybe have a look at baby shampoos and detanglers as they may be made for finer hair and thus less heavy?
I hope someone more experienced can help you out with this but you can buy a shower filter head pretty cheaply on Amazon. I know a lot of them change the appearance of the water which might not be suitable but something like this might work you. It screws between the hose and the head.
Fingers crossed it becomes available in the UK soon! I think the only advice I can offer until it then is to experiment and see which detangling methods work best on her hair.
When I was a kid my mom had the exact same issue trying to detangle my hair. I found the African Pride Miracle Moisture Aloe & Coconut Water Detangler to be an absolute life saver; it just melts tangles away like nothing else and leaves your hair lovely and soft. Would highly recommend! You can find it here on Amazon.
If you want to spend a lot, my friend just bought the Shark one and she has very long low porosity curls and can now do in 8 mins what took 30 on her previous dryer
I have high porosity hair which dries faster so can't justify the money
I really like my dryer though BaByliss Platinum Diamond
Looks like it's on sale!
Yup! I got this the other day and so far so good. It’s a bit big and cumbersome but does the job. Also I love how big the bowl is cus I have sooo much hair here
Omg, I have one that's amazing! It fits over both oblong-shaprd nozzles and round nozzles. my silicone collapsible one never fit on oblong ones. I also haven't run into a hair dryer yet that it doesn't fit! I like it better than my baby hair dryer with its baby diffuser because that hair dryer runs hot and the diffuser is...tiny.
I am actually in the US but don't kick me out! My husband's dad was a first gen UK expat who moved to the US and so I feel this weird kinship to the UK. Plus the group here is really nice. 😊
This is the exact one I bought (this is the UK Amazon store - mine came from the US store, of course!): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gihali-universal-haar-anpassungsf%C3%A4hig-haartrockner-d-1-7-inch/dp/B07ZFCG5HS?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
I just got it this summer and I'm so excited to tell someone how much I love it. I should probably actually write an Amazon review. 😂😂
I have really long hair too and find this diffuser and it’s great - way better than the tiny one I got with my hairdryer. I can actually fit the majority of my hair in it!
I love the Dippity Do Girls with curl gelee, you can find it on amazon:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dippity-do-girls-with-curls-gel%C3%A9e/dp/B01NAYYX05/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=dippity+do&qid=1631047552&sr=8-1
It is lightweight but gives me the best hold of any gel I have tried. The only con is it's hard to find, I only ever see it on amazon or Kiyo beauty, never anywhere in store as it's a Canadian brand.
I found it on amazon for £7.98 but haven't seen it anywhere in store.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aussie-Instant-Freeze-Sculpting-Gel/dp/B00LSB2U7G/ref=sr\_1\_2?dchild=1&keywords=aussie+instant+freeze+gel&qid=1630568731&sr=8-2
I use the perfect hair care towel, it’s microfibre but not like you’d expect, it feels really silky. it’s a little pricey but worth it I think, it’s the best towel I’ve ever used.
I've had issues with this too, of course it used to be available in Boots until it was discontinued (hoping it will come back again sometime in the future). I sometimes see it on amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cake-Curl-Whipped-Mousse-Beauty/dp/B07PFY5KNL/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=cake+the+curl+whip+mousse&qid=1625492422&sr=8-2 but it's out of stock at the moment. I really like the Go2b twisted curling mousse and the John Frieda Dream Curls mousse but the Cake was definitely my most used until Boots and a few other places stopped stocking it.
You can look into pure argan oil from amazon, Naissance has a massive 500ml bottle for like 20£, it will last you a good year and it's an excellent product.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004RG9WBQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_YV2MRJ2910XAKFK11QB1
Hey,
My hair dries frizzy too and I’m early on in my curly girl journey so I feel your pain!
I was using this, which others on here recommended: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B002E2LNC6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I don’t really like it so I’m now trying this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cantu-Butter-Natural-Define-Custard/dp/B00FFJ4UI4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=define+and+shine+custard&qid=1614372533&sprefix=define+and+shine+cu&sr=8-2
I haven’t tried it yet (wash day tomo!) so I can’t tell you whether it’s good or not but comes recommended from curly girl subs. I’ve been trying to get hold of Boots Curl creme as everyone seems to say it’s amazing but it’s sold out online and near me!
All products I’ve listed are curly girl friendly.
Enjoy!
I get it off Amazon. The first time I just got one and it was a rip off but I didn't know if I would like it. Now I buy it in the three pack so its a bit better value
It doesn't give a super hard cast unless I use a lot and damp style rather than wet style, but my hair is so much happier without glycerin in my stylers
That would make more sense 😅 thank you for those recommendations, do you mean these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00694ZKW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_ZE9X7W45N8EE73DJEFD2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0040QBTEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_YPP4TAXK4KX42RRGFG8H
I love Noughty. Wave Hello is one of my favourite conditioners but I am not a cowasher (I have dry, itchy, flaky scalp and cowashing is a no go for me)
I bought the faith in nature conditioner last time I needed a new one because it was such a good price but I dont like it. Its really watery and doesn't give me as good slip as Noughty.
I'd recommend a silicone shampoo brush if you intend to cowash as it can be quite tiring to thoroughly cleanse the scalp
As you are going quite a while between washes, make sure you protect your curls whilst you sleep. I personally prefer a pineapple using an invisibobble on a satin pillowcase, but some people get on well with satin bonnets or a buff.
A spray bottle is also super useful for refreshing. I have this one and I love it; it gives out a really fine mist.
Make sure you have a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel for when you wash.
Good luck! I hope you have great results.
I really like my shampoo scalp brush! It is much better at cleaning my scalp than my fingers, and faster. You could also try a reset wash to get rid of product buildup, that might help the itch.
My hair is definitely not as long or thick as yours - I have had it for a year my post history shows every length I've used it at.
I'd say its like most other diffuser bowls that come with dryers.
This is so expensive for just the diffuser section but a lot of people on r/curlyhair talk about the Black Orchid diffuser (link) but maybe something more that shape would be better for you than a traditional diffuser?
The dryer part of mine is strong but the diffuser bowl is smaller than that so may take you a bit longer?
Not as cheap as this but Noughty Detox Dynamo is CG and meant to be good for hard water etc. That's a crazy good price though!
https://noughtyhaircare.co.uk/products/detox-dynamo
Edit cheaper on Amazon https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0746NGT3D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_got2FbV701W98
This is universal, only a tenner, and brilliant.
It's massive so really cuts drying time
This is what I use. It's great with my bargain basement hair dryer. It doesn't fall off of mine. But maybe if you have quite a thin nozzle it might fall off of yours? It's dirt cheap and makes such a difference.
Don't forget to do a reset wash before switching to co-washing if you've previously been using products with silicones — I ordered this one from Amazon. You only need to use it once, at the start, before you switch to CG-only products.
I like aussie freeze gel for a crunchy cast. 3 for £20 on amazon
Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel 7 oz. Maximum Hold (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000NFCWZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CrzoDbT447VA6
That is the stuff! I looked at the link and I paid £19.99 in August.
Unless your hair is very long you will get more than one application out it. I have done 2 and I will get a 3rd for my not-quite-shoulder-length bob.
Sorry for the late reply! Any is fine as long as it lets out steam. I use this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BHMTKVV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_f.aHFbY7K0KBZ
Make sure that you use de-ionised water with it, the type you’d use in your iron otherwise the product can get build up.

I love this, it's wonderful. It has cut my drying time in half.
For the pic above I didn't use any shampoo at all - just conditioner & hair gel, but if I need to shampoo I use this stuff: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LOreal-Extraordinary-Shampoo-Fragile-Packaging/dp/B01MDKBM6Y
It lasts forever btw, I bought this a year ago and I think I'm halfway through the bottle
The Cantu care for kids leave in is fragrance free and on offer on Amazon at the moment.
Other no fragrance products.
Palmers Coconut Oil conditioning shampoo
£3 on Amazon, lasts me ages. Can get it in Boots, Superdrug etc aswell afaik.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Palmers-Coconut-Formula-Shampoo-400ml/dp/B004NOZJVE
You need something like this
Silverline 318092 Aluminium Spray Bottle 300 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0058CNY2G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.mdxCb50PT3HY
A trigger action water bottle (Not a button version). Spray a good misting of water until damp. Scrunch and go.
Hi. I've ordered this one off Amazon. Looks huge and has great reviews. Also no alcohol which I believe is good (I'm still awaiting my copy of the book so just going off thing I've read off the Internet!) Eco Styler Curl and Wave Styling Gel 946 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001T8MJC4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8QobCb7N9NMH9
