DZC has been broken for a long time and it can really mess up your installs, not to mention the server browser doesn't show a lot of the active servers. If you're playing regular DayZ mod, all you need is Steam.
If you want to play derivative mods like Epoch/Overwatch, you can use Play With Six or DayZ Launcher but I recommend learning how to manually install them and create custom desktop shortcuts.
40 players are enjoying it right now. Coftsock is just a bitter troll who's still crying about being perma-banned from 434 for hacking. He even uploaded videos of himself cheating after changing his IP address and actually paid money to host a server with a very similar name to 434 so he could mess with people joining his server so they'd think 434 was hacked. He's a special case.
Sadly no :( Lingor is a great map and heaps of fun. There is no Vanilla Lingor servers left, there is a few epoch/overpoch ones, but the population on them is pretty dire as well. https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/?query=Lingor
Both US434 and DayZ Europa are straight up vanilla servers that have a lot of good players that play the game the way it's meant to be. Just take note that there's been a lot of changes to the official mod in the last year and a half, so you'll see some new map locations and additions like WIP base building that you may at first mistake for modifications when in fact they're part of vanilla DayZ mod.
If you are looking for an authentic DayZ mod experience, you're going to have to find a vanilla server that hasn't added a crap ton of extra vehicles, weapons, helicopters, and loot spots. Without a doubt, the best (and most populated) vanilla server running right now is US3480. It's on the public hive and has very good admins. It keep really high population for the most part and there's a great community of players there. Check it out!
US434. It's the best and most populated US vanilla server, though population has not been as consistent lately. For the last several months it was in the 40s-50s every day, maxed out on the weekends, and still had a lot of people playing at night. Over the last month it's died down a bit, though it's still really active on the weekends. There's 41 people on right now. =)
/u/M0tzilla is right, this is far from a "vanilla" server. They have mislabeled it as vanilla. You're going to run into that type of experience on most of the heavily modified private hives. It's the nature of the game. Modifying and adding so many things necessitates meta-gaming rules and admin intervention, and guess what, absolute power corrupts absolutely, so you're never going to find a server with 100% trustworthy admins that have the full admin toolset with the ability to TP around, spectate, spawn in objects, etc. Also, those types of servers breed griefing and QQ'ing, so it's best to just stay away from them.
As others have stated, US434 and DayZ Europa are the best vanilla DayZ experiences you're going to get.
Cut the umbilical chord that is DayZ Commander. It used to be great to separate public hive servers from private hive servers or set up favorites, but the public hive database is gone so there's only private hives left, and 99.999% of them are total shit servers with 1,000,000 vehicles/choppers/guns/etc. Commander doesn't help much with that save for sorting by time of day to find night servers or only showing 1st person servers or servers without crosshairs, etc.
Your new best friend is GameTracker. Use this to search DayZ mod servers, sort by rank, players online, filter for terms like "vanilla". Fire up DayZ, click multiplayer, then click the "remote" button at the bottom. Copy/paste the IP and port into the fields to join the server you want to join (the IP of the server will be listed on the page, but is also in the URL for that server which makes copy/pasting it super easy). This method is so much faster/cleaner than using any launcher or server browser, especially if you like to play on the same server (it will remember the IP of the last server you joined).
Your best bet is to join the servers iConnorN posted. I play a lot on US434 . It really has that old school DayZ mod feel. It runs on vanilla settings and has a good mix of bandits, survivors, and heroes. The admin is top notch. I highly recommend it.
The server is up yes! Here is a link to gametracker:
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/193.70.7.8:2302/
Our community has been around for a while now, this server is just our newest addition! Pop into our discord and hangout! We'd love to have you, tell them I sent you! :)
Maybe a few months ago after 1.8.8 was released but currently 434 is struggling to even reach 30 players peak most days. https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/198.27.83.122:2342/ Edit: not saying you shouldn't play on it. 434 is a great server.
Most definitely worth it. The community is small, but dedicated. For vanilla DayZ, use Steam to install and launch, and take a look at the servers US434 and Europa.
For other derivative mods, download DayZ Launcher to install, browse servers, and launch.
Standalone is still a really long ways from being done. Still doesn't live up to vanilla DayZ Mod in my opinion. I'd say look into it when it hits Beta or is fully released.
I suggest downloading/installing/launching the mod from steam. Don't bother with 3rd party software until you want to play mod derivatives. Jump on US434, it's the most populated real DayZ mod server (vanilla settings). They have a team speak server (same IP as the game server), and our squad has public channels on our team speak server (dayzknights.com). You will probably find someone in one of the two team speak servers to meet up with.
Gametracker is the best way to find servers if you know the name or have key terms you want to search for ("vanilla" for instance). Here's US434 on Gametracker. The IP/port is on the page as well as in the URL. In DayZ mod, click the "Multiplayer" menu, then click the "Remote" button at the bottom. You can copy/paste the IP/Port there.
> Am I the only one who enjoys night time better than day time?
No you are not! US434 is a heavily populated vanilla server that has real moon phases. That means it alternates between pitch black and full moon over the course of a bout 2 weeks. The admin sets it to full moon on the weekends, but due to the default DayZ options right now the moon doesn't rise until an hour and a half or so after the sun sets (hopefully they change that soon by changing the date the server runs on when full moon is set to "true").
Population stays pretty high on 434 until about midnight Pacific time and it starts to dwindle. If it's a full moon people will stay on later, and we've played well into the wee hours on 434 with around 30 players on many times.
Cool! It's very understandable as the game can be really frustrating at times especially with how difficult it is. I'd give you more upvotes if I could for being willing to see it from a different perspective. If you need any help in-game send me a PM and I'll give you our TeamSpeak IP. I could meet up with you in game. A few friends and I play vanilla quite a bit. We frequent US 434 and are always trying to get more people interested in playing Vanilla mod.
No, it's not. Arma 2 hates AMD processors. It relies on single thread performance. Click here and do a search for your processor to see where it lies on single thread performance. Pretty low.
I'm running an AMD FX-8350 OC'd to 4.4Ghz and I get great FPS in the wild, but in Cherno/Elektro when the server's full and there's lots of players and zombies nearby I get around 20fps.
If you have a good graphics card, try "high" for some of your settings as it will take load off the CPU. Set object detail to low, shadows low, Post processing off, and Anti-Aliasing off. Take a look at these Arma 2 launch parameters to see what suits your system and add them to your shortcut. Also, google for Arma 2 config settings to change things like maxframesahead to 1 (look it up...can't remember details off the top of my head).
Also, end-task anything that doesn't need to be running while you're playing. And look for a good server that performs well. The server can drastically affect your FPS. Avoid mods like Epoch which have a lot of base building as that will kill your CPU. Try playing DayZero, it's really optimized and might run better for you, though there's only one server alive and it's empty during prime gaming time in the US.
Good luck!
The mod has more technical limitations that the standalone and a lot of stuff is sort of proof-of-concept, but despite that it's still 10 times better in regards to gameplay in my opinion. There's still some servers with a decent player base. DayZ Europa is a vanilla server that's still seeing a lot of players on a daily basis. I'd definitely recommend checking it out. The mod was always fantastic and it's come a long way since 2012.
If you are asking about vanilla the answer is no. However US434 is playable on Australian ping, I've been playing there for 2 years, and get between 200-300 ping on average playing from Queensland, the ping limit is around 500 so it shouldn't be an issue.
As for the DLC, you only need Combined Operations, however if you want high res textures on some of the skins (Hero, Soldier, Camo, Ghillie, Pilot Zombies) then you will need the Private Military company DLC as well as British Armed Forces.
434 has high population from around 3pm to midnight Pacific time (GMT-8). During those times it's very likely to run into action in the Stary/Kabanino/Vybor/NWAF/Grishino/Prud circle. Good amount of action at the coast too. We have also had great fun at other popular towns like Gorka, Polana, Olrovetes Factory, etc. NEAF gets a good amount of traffic too.
If you're only able to play when population is low, check out DayZ Europa. They're on the other side of the world and have high population when 434 players are asleep.
So, you've deleted anything DayZ related, re-verified A2 and A2OA (you might even want to delete and reinstall them), then launched A2 and A2OA once each, then installed DayZ mod through Steam, and still can't connect? Check what version of DayZ mod and A2OA you're on when you launch the game (check lower right hand corner in main menu). Make sure DayZ mod is v1.8.6.1. I forget what patch A2OA is on but 434's gametracker page says 125548 in it. If your DayZ mod version is off, right click on it in Steam, click properties>betas and opt out. If that's already the case see if 1.8.6.1 is available as one of the betas (shouldn't be like this but I'm just throwing ideas out now). Try joining US434 as it's a known server running everything up to date right now.
Above all, when uninstalling/reinstalling/verifying/whatever, be sure you're doing it in this order:
Europa is the #2 vanilla server and 14th overall mod server and it has no side chat. They reach 50-60 players daily. I was playing sans side-chat with 50 players on 434 yesterday.
I live in Sweden and don't even think I could play on a server located in Australia. It's really not that hard, why don't you start one yourselves? I would gladly help with tips and such if you would need it.
Edit: there are 2 vanilla servers running in Australia: https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/119.252.191.191:2502/ and https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/119.252.189.45:2402/
Huh? Just use Steam to install/update Arma 2, Arma 2 OA, and DayZ mod. Be sure to run A2 and A2OA before installing DayZ mod. Steam will keep DayZ mod up-to-date. No need for 3rd party installers/launchers unless you want a fancy server browser or want to install other mod derivatives. To join 434 just open DayZ mod from Steam, click multiplayer, then click the "remote" button at the bottom. Enter 434's IP/port which can be found in the URL of their gametracker page:
https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/198.27.83.122:2342/
You can then directly join the server. No other addons or sub-mods needed. 434 is regular DayZ mod with vanilla server settings.
Any luck yet? I suggest starting with just regular DayZ mod and joining a vanilla DayZ server (which it sounds like you're trying to do). The problem is that it's really hard to find regular DayZ mod servers (which is probably why you're getting kicked and getting errors as most servers you're trying to join are other mods like Epoch/Overwatch) and even harder to find ones running vanilla settings. One of the few vanilla servers left that is really well run and stays populated is US434. I highly recommend trying this server out as it's where most vanilla DayZ fans play. Here's my advice on how to proceed (you've already done most of this):
IP: 198.27.83.122
Port: 2342
You should now be able to join US434 and play vanilla DayZ. Once you have put a significant amount of hours into vanilla DayZ you can give other mods a shot by manually installing them and creating custom shortcuts (you can google how to do this) or you can use a 3rd party installer like DayZ Launcher or Survival Launcher. The risk you run with 3rd party installers is that they may stop supporting/updating it and then you have to find another method of installing/launching. This is what happened to DayZ Commander. It used to be a great app and everyone used it install/update DayZ mods, but now it's out of date and causes tons of issues for people but for some reason there's a religious devotion to it and a lot of people refuse to let it go. I'll never understand this.
Straight up vanilla DayZ mod with no additional add-ons or mods is still leaps and bounds above SA. I'm not even going to try playing SA again until I hear the zombies are actually working and the new renderer is in. People always say "base building" and "vehicles" when comparing the two, but far important than that IMO is the core mechanics of zombies, loot spawns, persistent items (tents/stashes/vehicles/choppers/planes), client performance, and player movement across the map. The mod wins on all of these hands down.
Plus, the alpha state of SA has attracted and entirely new demographic of gamers than the people that play the mod. It seems to be about 80% derpy trolls and something around 10-15 years lower in age range. I have a lot of fun and interesting interactions with other players in vanilla mod, but a vast majority of interactions I have in SA are running into trolls that are more interested in goofing off than actually playing the game.
Like another user posted earlier, join US434 if you want the original old school vanilla DayZ experience. IMO it has so much more to offer than the massive amount of mod servers and mod derivatives that spawn everybody with EVERYTHING and have 1,000's of vehicles everywhere.
Dude, don't use ANY 3rd party launchers until you get the damn game up and running. Delete DayZ Commander and any other launcher, then do everything Havoc said again (remove, re-install, verify). Always, ALWAYS install/update A2, A2OA, and DayZ mod via Steam. Once it's up and running, you have to be sure you're trying to connect to a DayZ mod 1.8.2 server and not one of the other mod derivatives. Try connecting to this server. Start up the game, go into the multiplayer menu, then click on "remote" to manually enter the IP/Port.
Once it is actually working, then you can install other crappy sub-mods either manually or by using 3rd party installers/launchers, but do so at your own risk. You can eff up your DayZ install if you set it up wrong. Whatever you do, be sure that you only use steam to install/update A2, A2OA, and DayZ Mod. There's no reason to try and use 3rd party launchers that create problems and are often out of date when Steam does it perfectly fine. If you need to browse servers, go to https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/
Check out US434. It's been really popular lately (33 players on right now!). Also, US3480 has had a lot of traffic in the last 8 months, but population has been down lately. Hopefully it will pick back up.
Keep at it, you'll get used to the food and water system. Once you have your nutrition up it's easier to maintain. As long as you have a hunting knife, hatchet, and matches, you can kill a cow and be set for quite a while. You'll start noticing chickens, rabbits, pigs, and goats a lot more now where as you used to just ignore them. Either way, like I mentioned, the devs are going to nerf the nutrition system a bit in the next update which is coming soon. Keep an eye out for that.
Oh, forgot to mention, fish offer the best sustenance out of all the food in the game. Find yourself a fishing pole, do some fishing on the coast, and you're set.
Try WINTER GAMING server (France) https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/164.132.203.240:2302/ I do not think there is anything closer to what you want while having a high(er) population.
If you like arma 3 I have a (first person) Exile server that tries to emulate the Epoch days without the over-militarization. Has everything Epoch had but the weapons were toned down to light arms only, and any armed vehicles or heli only has a crew-served MG at best. (non-guided) launchers are obtainable, but only through completing missions on the map.
If you (or anyone else is interested, we need a population!) here's the game tracker: https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/dirtyzone.net:2302/
I have played here some time ago, its very good, and indeed a more hardcore experience. But for me the 1st person view is annoying after a while so I play a similar 3rd person server here: https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/87.81.2.44:2302/ The other server is hardcore too but in its own different ways. Loot is plentiful this time but map is full of AI (around 15 AI per square km) so you need to watch your six all the time and if they spot you first its not like you instantly die, they usually get a few hits on you from shit weapons but you usually manage to survive (at 4k blood or so), so its not super annoying, just a more hardcore fun. Thanks to this its fun even on empty server, seriously, you wont miss pvp that much. Most of the players there dont KOS either (a rare occurrence, just like the first days of the mod), probably because the environment is too hard for them so they love teaming up. After around 10 hours of play time I have supplies to build a small base now so the pace of progress is going perfect and the balance of fun/hardcore is done elegantly - the hardcore aspects are not frustrating but fun. To me, frustrating hardcore = no loot, long walks, no vehicles,... you get the point.
But I suggest checking out both first, for a little while, before deciding. They are still very different in the details. And, great benefit of Namalsk is higher FPS because its a "smaller" (by dayz standards) map.
i play with a small playgroup of 3 very frequently, during the week we tend to solo loot farm and meet up on the weekends for pvp and AF raids search for me on steam, im down to play- yukaihan
btw, we all own arma 3 with all the mods as well, but for a Z experience A2 cant be beat. Arma 3 has maybe just a couple zeds here and there and its all about basebuilding and pvp rather than survival. ive always wanted to try SA but the stability always scared me, since a2 runs so well right now.
heres a good server browser, you can see the average player count for each server, the 2 we play on have averaged 40 and 62 people over the last month https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/?sort=3&order=DESC
The one i'm playing on is pretty populated, hit's 70/70 most nights according to gametracker. https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/167.114.65.157:2302 Also hosted in Canada so majority speaks english although i have seen abit of Russian in side chat at the hours i play.
If you are interested in any non pay to win PVP and PVE come check out the Vanilla mod. Unlike other mods, the vanilla mod is still being developed and updated regularly. If you live in North America/South America check out US434 , I am an admin over there and can vouch for a quality server. If you are based in Europe you can also check out Europa
I just use https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/ to find servers. You can also filter by area. Then I manually connect. Best and easiest way of doing that is follow this tutorial http://www.dystopia-dayz.com/cant-find-server/ It will walk you through the manually connect process. Obviously that tutorial is for DayZ Mod Vanilla.
You're thinking of "The Dead Walk". I joined "A Dead Man Walking" yesterday because I heard it was actually vanilla and go figure, it is! I didn't notice anything outside of regular vanilla settings. The only thing out of the ordinary was a debug monitor that you can disable with the "end" key that's part of infinistar. I started with vanilla items and loot spawns seemed unaltered. Zombies acted as they should. I didn't notice any additional mission file download.
Don't know what to tell you. I've given you 3 options on how to contact 434 admins. Find a different computer that loads the website properly or can join their TS, or contact them via their GameTracker page. Beyond that you could PM the admin here on Reddit: /u/geryontom
http://pastebin.com/he4bprPX save the following as a .bat file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead, make sure you change the ip & port to the server you want to join (https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/?query=epoch) and where it has @DayZ_Epoch make sure that is how your epoch mod is named in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead
> I mostly play on the Dystopia servers.
You are most definitely playing on the wrong servers. Any DayZ mod servers that are heavily modified, add tons of vehicles/choppers/buildings/guns and give you a starting loadout are simply GTA: Call of Modern Warfare (read: deathmatch) with some zombies running around. You'll need to join vanilla servers to find people that play more creatively. While there is a lot of KoS in vanilla DayZ servers, there's a LOT more hold ups, real banditry, and friendly encounters than in the deathmatch servers. Try joining US434. It's a populated purely vanilla server that has some bandit and survivor squads.
DZC seems to be constantly broken and behind on updates. People recommend DayZ Launcher but I have no experience with it so I cannot say. What I can say is, for the regular DayZ mod at least, install everything through steam and steam only! A lot of people want to rely on crummy 3rd party installers when Steam does it all for you. Besides that, since the A2 1.63 patch Steam is required to play A2/DayZ. Install A2 and A2OA via Steam (or you can add to steam library manually if you had purchased A2 elsewhere), then run both games briefly, then install DayZ mod via Steam (it installs like any regular game). Make sure all games are up to date. Make sure DayZ mod is running version 1.8.2 (if not check the betas tab under properties for DayZ mod in Steam). You should now be able to join any regular DayZ mod servers on the 1.8.2 patch. Search for servers in the in-game multiplayer menu or by going to gametracker.com, copying the IP/Port, and entering them into the "Remote" window in-game in the multiplayer menu. I recommend checking out the server US434 as it's the best and most popular vanilla DayZ server online now (not many of them left).
From this point, you can either use a launcher or manually install the mod derivatives like Epoch/Overwatch. I'd install manually if I were you as the 3rd party launchers/installers can be jinky. You'll have to do some searching on how to do manual installs and set up launch parameters to launch each sub-mod.
Thanks for linking him iConnorN. Yeah, we most frequently play on
You're welcome to join our teamspeak at address: dayzknights.com . We have some public channels set up there and are trying to gather vanilla players to create a community in which people are jumping on the same server so there's good population. Drop by anytime!
The "wrong CD-Key" message when applying the Arma 2 patch is no big deal, ignore it. Once you have patched Arma 2 (112555) and Updated DayZ to 1.8.1, if you get the "Bad Version, server connection rejected" message you are trying to connect to a server that hasn't updated to the new patch yet. Filter servers in DayZ Commander or the Arma 2 multiplayer by typing "1.8.1" in the search field. Here's a list of servers running 1.8.1 on Gametracker:
https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/?query=1.8.1&searchipp=50#search
It seems the real problem is that most server admins haven't updated to the new patch yet.
My squad plays on US3480 usually sometime between 6pm-1am Pacific time. Our squad is full, but there's a lot of survivors/heros as well as bandits on 3480. The server has a lot of regulars because it's just about the last vanilla server alive that still has a lot of people playing. It would be pretty easy to find some people to team up with on there.
No problem. Windows will treat is as a separate audio device which may be different if you have windows set up to allow sound through your default device and speakers at the same time. You could get a splitter if you need to plug your speakers and headset into the USB device to get sound at the same time.
Nope. The best way to beat this is to get a gaming headset that has separate volume controls for game and voice. Typically this means getting a headset geared towards console players like Astro A50s. This way, when set up properly, you can have game volume going through one output device and TeamSpeak/Skype going through another output device and control the volume independently with either a mixamp (Astro headsets) or volume knobs on the headset.
Or, you can go the route I did and get a small, affordable mixer like this one along with a cheap USB sound card like this one. I have computer sounds going into channel 1 of the mixer (speaker output on the back of my motherboard) and the headphone output from the USB audio card going into channel 2 of the mixer. I set the default windows sound output to go through the onboard audio on my motherboard, and I set Teamspeak settings to play audio out through the USB sound card. Plug the mic of your headset into either one and select the appropriate default recording device for windows and TeamSpeak.
Then, when I hop in a car or chopper, all I do is turn down channel 2 which I have set to computer audio and I can still hear my friends loud and clear over TeamSpeak on channel 1.
Your only other option, really, is bringing up your audio options in DayZ and turning down sound effects.
