My bout of distractions continued during last week as well. I was not as focused on my goals as I should have been. On the upside though, I had plenty of fun mainly following cricket and politics in India.

I often find it hard to keep focus on my currently identified set of goals. This has cost me dearly over the past half a decade or so. I have done fairly well financially, but looking back, I can't identify any cumulative skills or expertise that I have gained. At one time or the other, I have spent time on Indian philosophy, natural sciences, Mathematics, programming, understanding developmental issues in India, etc. My set of interests remain the same, but they keep cycling between them in terms of priority. At one time I am focusing on mathematics, and at other times, on politics. Had I stuck with any one thing, I would have acquired at least a basic level of expertise in that area.
Any suggestions on how to maintain focus would be very helpful!

I've been on the beach and at a music festival so not much productivity.
Exercise: 0 gym days but lots of walking and swimming so good
Meditation: 0 days. I thought I could meditate a couple of days but it was either too noisy or I was too tired to do it. No big deal.

I have upgraded my task management system. I use a plain text system with a daily Python script to archive old tasks and manage recurrence. I've added some additional logic to allow more customization and a new functionality to manage habits, including the automatic generation of the 'Accountability' section of this post :)

I started to get into stoicism last year and read most of A Guide to the Good Life and got A Man In Full. I really like much of Stoicism.
I loved Cat's Craddle, Ender's Game, Cloud Atlas, and Life of Pi.
I just try to focus on my breath. When thoughts arise and I get trapped in them, I try to notice it and bring my attention back to breath. I learned this technique from "Mindfulness in Plain English" by Bhante G. I must admit that I am not a serious meditator though! :-)

I'd say that your heart is in the right place. If I were you, I'd do the following:
Ask them about the technologies they use. Is this a web development job? Do they use things like Hibernate, Spring, etc.? What database do they use? This is so that you can read up on those areas before you join them.
Go through the Java tutorials at Oracle : http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ .
If you already know the basics of Java, read a book such as Effective Java or Thinking in Java.
That's all that comes to mind. You may also want to get used to the Java ecosystem such as JUnit, Maven, etc. and also an IDE such as Eclipse. I am not a Java person, but /r/java or /r/learnprogramming may have more suggestions for you.
