I had to stand on a table, but I recommend you borrow a ladder if you don't already have one. You aren't mounting a 105" TV to the ceiling, I just used that removable velcro wall tape... available at any local grocery store... got a couple of CHEAP hooks from Amazon that were on a cord with an adjustable hook on one side and a spring clasp (like the mountain climber style) at the other... If I want full room, I reach up and unhook one of the two hooks (above my desk) and I can access the entire play area without ever stepping on my cable and I can do multiple 360's without tangle... The cable can slide through the hook, so it is easily adjusted for movement... when I play Elite Dangerous, I hook it into both hooks, again, slides through so no issues with mobility, and I can sit in my chair without having a cable pulling to one side, or laying across the side of my face... it just goes up AND AWAY!!!

Unless you have 29' high ceilings, these are what I bought, and they would easily work for up to probably as high as an 18' ceiling...
This is what I ended up buying:

Cheap and does the job. I use that cable for my monitor, and go straight from the HDMI output to the Vive.
As others have pointed out, you have to use the connectors on your video card, not the ones on the motherboard. The MB connectors aren't hooked up to the GPU that makes the magic happen for VR.
Mine came with a bum HDMI cable, I had one of these sitting around and it worked fine.
Now I'm using a mini displayport to displayport cable and it's working great.
Logitech Wireless G930. They're over the ear, have 3 additional programmable buttons (I use them to take snapshots or activate comms), 7.1 surround, good base, wireless, and have a microphone for in game talking.

Don't use command strips. There's a rotating piece of hardware in the lighthouses. That sets up vibrations, which works any temporary adhesive (command strip, tape) apart. Then your lighthouse falls 7-9 feet onto your floor.
Use screws into studs (I'd highly suggest pre-drilling the holes). Stud finders work, though personally I use a medium size (inch+) neodymium magnet to find studs (it'll stick anywhere there's a nail/screw behind the wall). Then invest in drywall putty and some paint if/when you remove them. Takes a half hour max, and that includes finding a ladder and cleanup.
They've come up a hair but still under 50 bucks. A great value in my opinion especially if you need to move your lighthouses around for any reason or can't or choose not to mount them to your wall. Also apologies on being a bit late to reply. Only just now saw this for some reason.
I was initially going to use camera stands, but wanted to minimize the surface area of the base so I got two of the with camera mounts.

If you don't mind having two yellow poles in your room they work great!
This is what I'm using. Had it for about a month now and very sturdy. You can get them for much cheaper through harbor freight. I had to go through amazon though as the one through harbor freight wasn't long enough for my ceilings.

I've developed a game for Google Cardboard, Gravity Pull VR, that does just that! I'm releasing a plugin soon called VR-Step that should make it available for Cardboard, and then when I get some time I will make it for Vive/Oculus as well. The walking works really well - better than you would expect.
There was another guy who made something he called "RIPMotion" which was also very impressive.
