I have the Osprey Porter 30.
I love it because:
It has a really large opening so it’s easy to access your items.
It can be a back pack or an over the shoulder bag.
It’s light on its own.
It can carry all my stuff but not much more. I’ve taken it on several 7-day trips and have always had plenty of space.
You can attach a small pack to it.
I switched to wearing thongs full time about a year ago, and they pack up so small it's been awesome for travel. For trips up to a week, I'll bring 1/day. Anything longer, and I'll use Dr. Bronner's for laundry.
Thongs: https://www.amazon.com/Kalon-Womens-Nylon-Spandex-Underwear/dp/B07C92ZRMD
I’m size 14, so I can never get my clothes to fit in a compact packing cube and be pretty like most packing photos, but I then choose to pack less clothes. I just came back from 3 weeks in SEA and there was one pair of shorts and one skort I probably could have done without (I packed 2 shorts, 1 skort, 2 linen pants and 2 maxi dresses) because I actually wore the linen pants and maxi’s almost every day!
I truly believe the idea of “no one really sees how often you wear the same article of clothing”. I probably could have even brought only one dress!
Liquids is also an issue for me. I had my quart bag maxed out with little 10ml vacuum pump bottles from amazon or small spritz bottles. These little guys allowed me to bring the smallest dose I needed for things like face toner, poopouri, hand moisturizer, etc.
I wonder if you'd also have luck asking in r/femalefashionadvice - you could crosspost! I find that there are some nice albums people make of ways to accessorize or use the same clothes or wear them in different ways, and they'd maybe have brand or style recs for you.
I'm also a big chested lady. I like to have my sleeveless dresses and put a light cardigan over as a layer, and then i can use the same cardigan with my leggings and shirt outfits. The cardigan helps me hide any tummy self-consciousness. The sleeveless option underneath lets me sweat in peace.
Or, a trio of Salux cloths for under $12 that can be machine washed and are so obscenely big you can cut them in half and they're totally still usable. Fantastic for both home use and travel. I've had mine for almost 4 years.

The bag I use currently is a stylish/professional backpack, and I get approached for directions in every city I’m in (not to tourist attractions, more like ‘which way is X street’) so I assume I pull off not looking like a traveler. (I’m also an objectively attractive female, so I’m non-threatening, that might be part of it.
I think hiking/outdoors backpacks scream traveler, but I wouldn’t say the same about a Cabin Zero or something in that line of things.
I bought the Lovani Mini Flat Iron last fall & I really like it. My normal flat iron is also dual voltage & not very big (but not travel size), but I finally decided it wasn't worth carrying for the few times I actually used it while traveling. But I also wasn't ready to just skip the flat iron entirely b/c sometimes I do want to feel a bit more pulled together. The Lovani is tiny & takes awhile if you have a lot of hair, but it's still hot enough to get the job done.
I would definitely pack a scarf, or even 2! I just did London last week, with temperatures between 40-60 each day. I comfortably wore a long sleeve shirt, and this jacket with a big scarf to keep out the wind. I would have liked to have some lightweight gloves with me, but my pockets were ok lol
So if you're going next month, I'd definitely bring a scarf, and some sort of layering options for shirts. In Edinburgh, which runs ~10 degrees colder than London, I did pleather leggings (which retain body warmth like whoa) and a chambray shirt under my sweater, with the same moto jacket. I also did a long sleeve thermal under a plaid button down, and I did 2 pairs of jeggings with the leggings.
And I did a small rolling carryon, and a 15L personal item backpack that contained my plane snacks and a small cross body purse for sightseeing. Hope this helps!
Mine is very similar to this! I wear it like a flannel to protect from the sun and button it up or tie it in the front sometimes! All the sporting brands make this same kind of shirt, so get whichever you prefer. They usually have an option of a thinner material or a thicker material and I recommend the thinner material because it’s cooler in the heat and easier to pack. I don’t have the shirt with me at the moment so I’ll let you know exactly what material mine is later!
Bellroy make a couple of nice pouches with interior pockets if you’re looking for something fairly sleek but on the pricier side. There’s the Tech Kit and the Classic Pouch. Otherwise, I second Amazon. Search “organiser pouch”, “travel pouch”, and, obviously, “tech pouch” and all sorts of variations come up. There are some thick felt ones with two pockets for a simple, cheap option. Lots with multiple pockets and elastic holders, too. Eg. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0756KHS4X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.uEeEb0YY00YK or https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07Z5BLJPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qwEeEb0D4PP6P
I used this one a couple times I had to go for an event but I find it too big to use on normal travels. I bought a compact led mirror, dropped it from like 2 inches above my desk and it shattered so I gave up and just use whatever mirror the hotel has.
I got something similar to this from a conference that is seriously one of my favourite things to travel with keeping everything organized and in it's correct spot. mine is a lot smaller, but i got my dad that one for christmas because he travels with more electronics and he was really happy with it. lots of different ones on amazon.
I have this Ecotools set that sounds like what you're looking for.

The first thing to generally, ( which you have probably already done) is to reduce the number of different items you bring. Combining many products into one multipurpose product when you can helps, as well as reducing the size of the items you bring. Using containers that are less than an ounce can really help. Stores like Daiso are EXCELLENT for this.
I find that I usually need far less than 1-3 oz for almost anything for a week long trip. Testing your containers out prior to a trip can be really enlightening. Obviously there are some things that will always need to be closer to 1-3 ozs. Things like body lotion, sunscreen, contact solution can be hard to downsize without buying it at your location.
I use these containers for a lot of my face products or even some hair creams.

I hope this helps! Sometimes there's just not much more you can do, lol!
I like this reversible hat for travel/sun.
I know you mentioned cross-body, and I can't speak to branding, but I've had this purse for a while and would wholly recommend it if you're looking for something cheap but sturdy to start out. It's survived several runs through the washer and still looks like new.
I originally purchased it in January 2020 with the hopes of being able to travel more that year (ha). It can be a backpack or messenger bag, waterproof, and has a lot of storage (one main compartment with several organization pockets, two side compartments great for separating out keys, wallet, epi-pens, snacks, etc.), and two waterbottle pockets. I originally got it because I liked the anti-theft design of the main compartment (can't speak to how it takes a knife though) and because it packs fairly flat if you're only doing one bag. My only gripe with it is the water bottle pockets can be snug, if not too small, depending on your brand of water bottle.
Oh no! I'd hate to give a recommendation because I have a feeling silicone is in more than I realize. You may be able to look for a more traditional nipple pasty (something like these) and inquire about the adhesive used.
Check out Chaco Loveland. I haven't worn mine in water yet, but I think they're great for a little fancier dress.
Omg a fellow coconut avoider!! Maybe I'm not looking at the right Davines shampoo bar (thought I checked them all?), but I keep seeing "SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONAT" as the first ingredient. Anything "coco" is no go. I got you though... whabam! It's expensive, but literally THE only coconut free shampoo bar I've found. Sadly you have to buy the conditioner with it (smell of the conditioner isn't the best and a little odd to apply), but no rashes or itchies! Do you have a regular shampoo or body wash you use for home? I'm struggling on that front, literally have an organic baby wash / shampoo I use for body wash and shampoo..
Consider bringing along shoe-inserts that warm feet. Like hand warmers, but for feet.

Hi! Okay, so this is really delayed, but I wanted to give you another perspective on packing light on international carry-ons. I have two different bags I use, depending on the kind of travel I'm doing: the Ciao convertible underseater spinner and the REI Trail 40. The top compartment of the Ciao zips up to form another pouch if you need. I bring the Ciao if I know I'll be buying a lot of souvenirs and expect to check the bag, and I always bring a packable duffel tote in that case. I'll bring it in the Trail 40 next trip. Also, don't buy the Ciao spinner on Amazon - it's $29.99 at Costco, which is where I got it! The REI Trail 40 beat out the Porter 30, Fairpoint 40, and Kelty 36/44 bags, among others, for me. (I might try out the Fairview now that it exists, but I'm pretty happy with the Trail.)
Both of these bags qualify as international carry-ons. Here is what I fit inside the Trail 40 on my last trip:
Packing cube: 5 shirts and 3 scarves
Packing cube: 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of joggers, 1 pair of hiking pants, 1 dress, leggings, pajama shorts, 1 sports bra
Half Cube: Underwear and two swimsuits
Bullet Journal and pen case
Book
Macbook Air 13 and cord
Toiletries (Liquid in quart-size bag)
Toiletries (Solid cosmetics, medicines, deodorant, hairbrush, hair ties)
Ballet Flats
Sandals
Umbrella
Water bottle
Snacks
(edited to add things I forgot about)
I wore a sweatshirt and sneakers on the plane. I didn't even end up wearing everything on my last trip, so I'll probably downsize a little bit next. I fit the same amount of stuff in the Ciao underseater as a carry-on and brought a commuter backpack for use on the plane.
I swap between my AmazonBasics Ultralight and an old JanSport, like this that I got in college with our logo on it.
The Amazon bag is nice. Fits a lot, has two side pockets, and can pack into itself. My only real complaint is that it has no form if there's not a lot in it, or it can be sort of "saggy" at the bottom if I'm just carrying relatively heavy stuff like books or portable chargers and no jacket to pad the bottom. The straps aren't that great/comfortable. But overall it's cheap, minimal, and carries plenty.
The JanSport has a little bit more structure, but no side pockets. The straps are way more comfortable. I always carry notebooks/journals/books, so the bottom of this bag does a better job accommodating those items without making the bag feel weird to carry. It fits a shit ton. The front pocket has a smaller pocket inside which is nice to separate small items. It's way harder to pack comfortably in my Minaal, though. If I do pack it over my Amazon bag, it's usually for the aesthetic and sentimental bias!
I'm on mobile and new at formatting.
This purse was awesome because of it's many pockets and versatile strap situation. It fits a lot too, if you don't mind it bulging a little, but in a pinch I would use it to avoid getting a plastic bag while shopping. Dakine is also a good brand for durable purses and bags. I love their Grom backpack because it's small but still has lots of function as a daybag or lite hiking pack. Also the color selection is pretty big on Amazon so it can function as a purse. I also recently got a toiletry bag from Dakine and have been very pleased with that purchase as well.
I’ve been traveling with this for a while now and am really happy with it, it’s really small compared to a lot of the available ones on amazon which is nice
I heavily invested in merino wool products, tops, thermals, pants are usually a blend. Easily found on amazon. But my fav has been this Spyder Women's Rhapsody Gore-tex Ski Jacket, Black/Black/Black, Size 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077ZGY7F8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_l7yMDbRK314BN For reference I’ve been traveling though Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and now Germany.
I use a kit I got from amazon every day. It has everything in its own little case, even a little cleaning brush for the straws included. portable utensils
I bought the lululemon knockoff from Amazon and I looooove it. I am currently backpacking Southeast Asia and it’s perfect. Looks small but fits a lot and so easily accessible. Fits: Passport, credit card, debit card Sunglasses Inside zipper pocket for cash Chapstick Etc.

I've found dresses with ruching are very resilient to wrinkles from packing.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/SheIn-Shoulder-Backless-Bodycon-Sleeveless/dp/B09FHHWRR6/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=196WYGKQU5TVN&keywords=ruched%2Bsilk%2Bdress&qid=1671069798&sprefix=ruched%2Bsilk%2Bdress%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-8&th=1&psc=1 Or the more expensive version of this: https://www.amazon.com/Norma-Kamali-DIANA-GOWN-SEAFOAM/dp/B0979RZYGZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_44?crid=196WYGKQU5TVN&keywords=ruched%2Bsilk%2Bdress&qid=1671070139&sprefix=ruched%2Bsilk%2Bdress%2Caps%2C212&sr=8-44&th=1&psc=1
I’m guessing they are similar to this. These are the ones I’ve ordered and I love them. They will clearly also last me the rest of my life.
My favorite side effect is that I did a leak test with some hand lotion and now I have a handy mini hand lotion on me at all times. Winter plus hand sanitizer made me unhappy but now I have a little joy in my pocket.

Nux Vomica 30C is a homeopathic remedy. It is not the actual plant.
82% of Amazon reviewers report benefits from using Nux Vomica 30C
I just did 2 weeks in Europe with the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L and it worked great. I'm 5'1" and here's a photo I took with me and a fully packed bag (ignore the weird body arch; I was trying to show the backpack lol). However, I do think torso length has a lot to do with people's comfort. I highly recommend having your girlfriend try a few backpacks on to see which are most comfortable.
BTW, I see the Indigo in stock on Amazon?
I looked at this one when shopping too but didn’t buy
I also have this Herchel but it’s pricy and I think the color selection and features of the rangeland are better for kids imo.
I am 5'3" and I am obsessed with my Lowe Alpine Edge II 18L bag. The one I have is over 10 years old so it looks way dorkier than the current models. I am not into those boxier style backpacks - they feel too bulky for someone of my frame.
I have had my Lowe for years and it has transitioned so beautifully for every part of my life.
It has served as a weekender bag, it was my "I commute to work with my laptop by cycling to the train station, then walking across to the other side of the city centre, and reverse it on the way home" bag, and it has served as a fantastic diaper bag for both kids. As the kids are now older, t's about to transition over to like a family day bag since I just bought a hydration bladder for it!
The bag has a big pocket at the back where the bladder will live - this pocket was also where I stored my laptop when it was my work commute bag. It has a decently large top pocket, a slim and long front pocket, two water bottle pockets one on each side, straps that can go across your hips to spread the load, and some other straps and clips that just make sense.
Actually, your advice is perfect! I’m also 5’4” with narrow shoulders. I’m not a backpacker either. I used to enjoy short hikes (on groomed trails)but an injury earlier this year resulted in Achilles tendinitis that has also left me with mobility issues. Walking uphill is the thing that aggravates it the most. 😞 I’ve recently started physio, so hopefully that will resolve the issue. (If anyone is curious I use a (Gonex 20L Ultra lightweight for short day hikes.)
My potential use case for the Decathlon would be as a travel bag to/from the airport, on planes, trains, buses, and taxis and sometimes a bit of walking to/from accommodations. I carry a small lightweight crossbody purse as my EDC when we’re out & about exploring a city. My husband is kind enough to carry my rain jacket and water bottle in his EDC backpack.
Comfort is also crucial to me. I own a Kathmandu Litehaul 38L which I purchased while travelling in NZ. It’s a very comfortable carry but it’s a bit too tall to fit under the seat. I’ve been looking for a smaller onebag but online shopping is my only option. It’s impossible to determine comfort so I have to rely on reviews. Your feedback is much appreciated. 🙏
The ones we use are bite (https://bitetoothpastebits.com/products/mint-fluoride-subscription)
They do a subscription service
If you want to hit up Amazon, I can’t quickly find the one we ordered. It does look like more has come up under fluoride tooth tabs. (https://www.amazon.com/Tidalove-Toothpaste-Fluoride-Anti-Cavity-Eco-Friendly/dp/B0B9VBWP5M/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=TKOOUYBJ3J94&keywords=fluoride+tooth+tabs&qid=1669674791&sprefix=fluoride+tooth+tab%2Caps%2C209&sr=8-4#)
For the evening bag, I always pack a flat clutch similar to this or this cheaper version. I've built up a collection of clutches like this in various colors, patterns, etc. I like these for travel as they take up no room at all, but also can be used to organize items within your bag.
Just be sure to get one that has the wrist strap.
I wore my classic white ASICS Japan S for everything but our nice dinner. For dinner, I wore these Naturalizer Natalie pumps in gold
I would have been better off with some dressy flats for dinner because of the uneven sidewalks, but I didn’t want to buy anything new just for this trip.
What didn’t you like about the ones you sent back? When I’m being very minimalist I will bring a mini packing cube. One the other extreme, I have this Mary Poppins bag
Thanks! These tiny little jars are hard to take pictures of. To the left of the floss is a jar of cleansing balm, which is my go-to for removing makeup. In the lower right is a small container of translucent powder and a travel eyelash curler.
That tarte blush is amazing! And I keep everything in one bag (this one), which may not be as efficient for packing but it's nice having everything in one spot once I'm at my destination, and I've never had an issue finding a place for it in my bag.
If you ever want to try the neck pillows again really recommend inflatable ones with the little hornbuds or what to call them - total game changer as they work much better at keeping your head upright - and ensure it has a clasp to keep it tight around your neck otherwise you may as well not be wearing one https://www.amazon.se/gp/product/B08BKTLV96/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just want to echo about you said about using the backpack as a footrest. I also frequently use a packing cube (not stuffed to capacity) pulled out of my bag as a lumbar pillow, especially when I'm trying to sleep.
I've switched from a Trtl to this thing https://www.amazon.com/Travelrest-Ultimate-Travel-Pillow-Neck/dp/B002P8YW54/ref=mp_s_a_1_4 as I don't find Trtl to be mask compatible, and I actually sleep even better on planes with it, and find it takes less space in my bag.
Regarding the neck pillow, you can fit one.
One of the best travel investments I made a few years ago was this inflatable neck pillow.
It folds up into a tiny little bag that you can hang on your backpack or stuff in even the smallest pocket. It's held up for about 3.5 years now and I'm just about to use it again for an overnight bus. It's easy to inflate and deflate and store, and makes a huge difference.
I've honestly had issues with utensils in the airports. They took my titanium knife (that wasn't sharp at all), the longer spork I had wouldn't fit in my food container and it eventually got lost, and airport security kept searching my entire bag because of this set.
The eat'n tool is small and has survived over the years. I like that it fits in most food containers. I have a thermos (that isn't going with me) and it fits well in there and also in almost any other food packaging from takeout. I've also have just had it for many years and don't see the need to buy something else. It's actually not sharp at all.
The chopsticks aren't sharp either and as you mentioned, they're really lightweight. It's another "nice to have" item because I just like eating with chopsticks, and the eat'n tool feels a little barbaric at times. ;)
I wear generic water shoes in black on black, extremely comfortable but if it's raining don't wear socks or wear socks that dry quickly as the sole is permeable.
I use this one I did try one like you mentioned, and found I preferred the adjustable one that is easier to take on and off.
I decant shampoo, conditioner, face wash, hair gel, moisturizer, lotion, etc., into these little tubes: https://www.amazon.com/Transparent-Plastic-Reusable-Refillable-Container/dp/B07L55FNNV/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=85QMKJYH2V31&keywords=small+plastic+lip+gloss+tubes+with+screw+caps&qid=1667008010&sprefix=small+plastic+lip+gloss+tubes+with+scre...
I bought this from my hair dresser and it works really well.
I got one that I think is the Older version of this one linked below awhile back and its perfect. Its small and dual voltage and it curls and straightens decently. I have fine hair so I dont need much. Should work for your purposes if just doing bangs and it is small and the bag that comes with it stores it even when hot so you can quickly go.
As others have said, all wool will bobble eventually. Your best bet is to take care of your knitwear with a fabric comb like this one.
You could try something like the Korean scrubby mitt [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0972FV4RS/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWwp13NParams ]. They’re the smaller size equivalent that is about hand size
I bought the LA Colors Nail remover pads (it's a miniature travel size round plastic box with 32 pads ). I got it many moons ago in the US for like $1. Amazon Canada of course skinning the peasants with the prices.
I have used up the pads ages ago, now I just presoak make up pads with polish remover or felt pads and put 3-4 which are more than enough for 2 weeks).
My advice is to get one of these when you go to the States and refill when empty. Mine is 7 years old, and the plastic is still just fine.
I have this one but I want to buy another case. The case has yellowed over time. I am hesitant to find another one because I don't want the bottom part to stick out like it did for my Xs Max.
I have a MagSafe case. I use a tether tab along with my own lanyard. You do not need to use the sticker of the tether tab so you can easily change your case. I don't remove the tether tab but can still charge wirelessly.
I’ve been trying to find the same thing! At the top of my list right now is this case. It’s got the holes built into the case. I don’t see a 12 version though.
I got one off of Amazon (searched magsafe case with lanyard). It was super disappointing; I absolutely do not recommend it.
Instead, I recommend getting a really good case that has a notch for where you can string through any kind of lanyard or key chain. My partner has a case from Mous and really likes it Mous
I sometimes use this purse thing. I find it cute sometimes, and too gaudy other times… you be the judge!
I’ve had good success with the packets. The pads are soaked pretty generously and you should only need a few.
Walmart and Target usually have them in store. These are under $10
I love cottagecore styles too! I've seen reviews for the Nordace and they're not fantastic but obviously do whatever is best for you. If you want something more aesthetic, maybe look into this one? For shoes, I highly recommend just bringing two pairs -- one sneaker and one sandal for hotels/hostels (unless you know you're going to be doing extensive hiking, then replace the sneaker with a hiking shoe). For bottoms, maybe a nice linen pant, a pair of jeans, some comfy shorts, and a midi/maxi skirt for modesty in religious places. I'd recommend some heat tech tights for more warmth on colder days as well. For tops maybe a turtle neck, a couple long sleeves, and a t shirt. You can keep intimates pretty minimal, maybe 4-5 days worth and just wash in the sink. I'd bring a mid-weight coat (I usually opt for water resistant, but you can check the weather beforehand).
We used this kind: https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Seat-Portable-Chair-Travel/dp/B07MV91MJF/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B082SJT3ZT&th=1
and I found I used it a lot when traveling when my guy was that age. Sometimes I'd put a little something underneath for him to boost him on the chair. They pack down super small. Or, I have seen there are YouTube videos on how to use your sling as a chair holder like this.
We used an ergo, so no go on that maneuver.
This is the brand that I have, I would say the battery (unless it’s gotten better in the last 3 years) lasts 8 hours on low, 6 on medium and 4 on high. I usually have it on high, and honestly, it’s lovely. I cannot recommend it enough!
Nothing I’ve tried personally, but I would suggest a rust remover that doesn’t stain fabrics, like this one perhaps: Iron Out Rust Remover
Follow manufacturer instructions (which I imagine will require spraying the zipper and letting it sit for some time), and hopefully that will break down the corrosion to a point you can get it sliding again. A stiff nylon brush might help to remove corrosion once the spray has broken it down a bit.
I always carry a wraparound shawl: it folds up thin and light, but also serves as a warm outer layer, a picnic or beach rug, a wrap for sleeping on planes or trains, or an extra blanket over the bed if I'm chilly at night. Invaluable, I never travel without it.
Its this kind of shape, https://www.amazon.ae/ZLYC-Womens-Golden-Blanket-Cardigan/dp/B075F48JG9
- but mine is much thinner and lighter than this (and cheaper!) - some kind of synthetic fibre I suppose.
I travel with a teenage boy right now so its modest shorts and tshirt, but ideally, this:
Just moved across the country with my day to day stuff in a 22L bag. I have this one dress from Prana (Amazon link because it's no longer on their website) that's really comfortable and resists stains/stink well. I wore that with bike shorts almost every day, but also brought a pair of leggings and a lightweight hoodie. One short sleeve button up shirt to cover my shoulders in the sun and protect me from my lizard's claws when I have her on my shoulder/chest. One bra, two bike shorts, two pairs of socks, as much underwear as I could lmao. I mostly wear thongs so I can pack a bunch. One lightweight water resistant jacket. Wore the button up and a pair of bike shorts to bed.
I would have had space to spare but I also packed my vibrator, lube, and a box of hypo-allergenic condoms into it which took a decent amount of space. 🤷♀️
Here's the convertible version in fabric (rather than leather), available on Amazon for cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Fossil-Commuter-Convertible-Backpack-Medium-12/dp/B08KYP55FJ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Given your strict criteria, I offer this only as a thought starter. A friend picked up one of these, although the backpack straps aren’t removable. It still looks pretty professional to me. She really likes the gatemouth opening for quick and easy access. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09B23YJMD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3RHH9GR4OY08U&psc=1
A compact super bright flashlight like this Streamlight on amazon is what I use. It's also helpful for seeing in dark rooms. Note that the color in the link is the only one that defaults to the bright light when you first turn it on.
They come in a ton of options, so you should be able to find something you like. I'm kind of partial to bows. I recommend them even for not one bagging, since you can get more variety out of fewer shoes. Or dress up a super comfy work pump, maybe?
No problem! I decided not to go with the pink bag because there was no way to comfortably not wear it as a backpack when it was full, and because with no zip pockets, I'd have to fish around for my phone and money too much. At the last minute, I ordered this instead, and it worked really well.
They came out with this updated version here that's thinner than the original. I've travelled in the US with the original version and the thinner one and both works fine. Not sure about backpacking with either though.
I travel with a 45L backpack and a tiny crossbody purse that’s only a bit larger than my phone. I like to bring a mid-size packable backpack (this cheap one has been super durable for me) and use it as my flight personal item, but not carry it around on my actual trip. It folds up to be smaller than a thick pair of socks. I’ll sometimes use it as a day pack while I’m out, but it’s worth the space even if it’s only to hold my in-flight items.
I know you mention your 21L daypack so maybe I’m being redundant but I think it makes a big difference if the smaller pack is packable/super light. I’ll wear it on my front through the airport if I have to (or carry it by the straps) but ideally since the pack itself isn’t structured or bulky, I can shove the whole thing in my main pack, or take a minute to unpack the items.
I know what you mean--went to pack a new backpack for a work trip this year. Since I had to take a few electronics for work, it weighed 20 lbs., but felt like a ton. You're smart to look for ways to reduce the weight whole you can.
If you have time to get a merino T-shirt, you can wear it multiple times without washing, so maybe that will help conserve some space and weight. Linen jersey knit shirts are nice too, and easier to find lately--they're thin and wrinkles aren't as noticeable. I also like the Branwyn merino bra (although silicone coversunderneath are a big help). You really could take just 2, wear one, air out overnight, wear the other the next day, then repeat. The warm nude color is beautiful on any skin tone.
I have noticed, as others have said, that the thickness and weight of individual items is pretty much as important as the number of items. A linen blazer, for example, might fold up to be fairly thick, especially if it's lined, and you probably wouldn't want to wear it lung with your backpack on. I'm wondering if something else you're already taking would serve the blazer's intended purpose?
Synhope water flosser. It is vary small and also USB-C rechargeable.
The downside is that the water chamber is very small (making it travel friendly). You’ll have to refill it 2-3 times to floss your whole mouth.
This is the solution if you have braces.
I use this one from Amazon because I really wanted an oscillating brush head, but I almost bought a different usb c rechargeable one off Amazon to further minimize my cables (other than the toothbrush cable I only carry one usb/usbc to usb/lightning cable as a combo cable for all my tech).
I have some ecco booties that I love for traveling. They're super comfy, easy to slip on and off at the airport, and I got bronze ones so they go with everything and are a little flashy, but not overpowering.
These are the exact ones I bought, but they have a lot of options if the remaining sizes don't fit you or you don't like the color: ECCO Women's Women's Soft 7 Slip... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CLTJCZF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You'll need a book or a file something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Jewellery-Transparent-Antioxidation-Protection/dp/B09BF3928B/ref=pd_aw_day0fbt_img_sccl_2/261-6765042-3270448?pd_rd_w=voqgf&content-id=amzn1.sym.eb32fcd8-611f-4645-88f8-5067d5aec862&pf_rd_p=eb32fcd8-611f-4...
You could also use buttons to keep pairs together
If I’m not flying, a Swiss Army knife. My favorite is the Spartan model. Can opener, bottle opener, corkscrew, and of course, knife. I got a white one and it is really stylish.
I use a bead organizer with stackable containers. Like this
It will be similar to your current setup but the individual containers will help keep it from moving between compartment. They have different variations so if you only have studs get one with only the small containers.
Personally, I don't travel with that many pairs of earrings, so I usually just mix-abd-match a stack and take it with me. It's easy to put back and stay organize at home.
The containers are usually sold as bead or pill containers and I like the ones without a fix bottom (like these for infinite possibilities.
if they're mostly studs or small-ish, you should try a weekly pill organizer! you can get one that is 7x4 like this. I've even seen 7x5! Each individual slot snaps shut securely, and the one I linked is actually 4 separate, removable rows that all fit into a larger container that also snaps shut.
My ears are stretched and I have use these to store all my plugs. I don't necessarily travel with them all at once but will take a row with me at a time for 7 pairs. They are also a lot larger than stud earrings, so while I can fit 2 pair in each slot you can probably fit more.
The handle doesn’t store inside this one either but I thought I’d share since there are multiple barrel size options! Good luck on your search!
I have hair that is similar to yours. Believe it or not, I use a brush similar to this! I found mine at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Note that it has a slightly curved shaped to it which really does work for styling.
Secrid! They have many different colors and styles if you look at their website.
I have 6 cards in the main part, 2-4 cards in the "fold out" part and some bills/a few coins in it. I've had it for 2 years now and am really happy with it. The card mechanism is still good and makes it super easy to get your cards.
Have you ever seen the Sherpani totes? They have convertible totes from shoulder bags to backpacks and are super comfy, multiple pockets, water bottle holders, antitheft chain, computer sleeve and look pretty classy. I used mine for weekend getaways but I pack light and do capsule wardrobes. I found something similar to mine on Amazon - just sharing the link here so you can see the product and keep searching for deals online in Canada. I think I got mine from Sail so you can def shop around for online retailers. I’ve had mine for years and it still looks new. Toss it in the wash on delicates once in a while, air dry.
Are you in the US? If so, you don't need to carry your health insurance card. I leave that at home and have a picture of it on my phone.
This is what I carry. I keep my driver's license, public transportation pass, 3 credit/debit cards, and some emergency cash.
That's frustrating. Can you reserve carrying the health insurance cards for occasions when you're going to the doctor for routine visits? I've only dealt with needing the physical card once when first visiting a new provider, and once I was in their system, they just asked if my insurance was still the same.
Lately, I've been using Google Pay instead of physical cards whenever I can, so I hardly even need to take my wallet out.
Long ago when I carried more cards, I used a zipper pouch similar in style to this one. Mine was a different brand and in plain black nylon material that stayed clean and in great shape for many years before I downsized further.
I bought this backpack from Amazon 3 years ago and it looks similar to the Amazon one you found. Especially given the price, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised of how well it’s held up. The pockets are also an efficient use of space. I’ve taken it on several trips and it also used to be a work bag before wfh.
I just got a set of these - https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09LCYC8X8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
They are compression cubes. Two zippers. You unzip both and fill it with clothes. Zip the cube closed and then you press down and zip the second zipper (carefully) and it flattens the cube so it takes up less space.
I'm going to be packing for a trip tomorrow and using them for the first time, so I can come back and let you know how they worked for me!
I'm one of those women who can't go without a hairdryer, and I've been backpacking for years with this tiny holy grail one: BaBylissPRO Tourmaline & Titanium Micro Travel Hairdryer.. I've used it in about 50 different countries, it's dual voltage so no need for a converter, it packs up absolutely tiny, and it even has a directional nozzle. Plus, it's really powerful for its size. I find it usually has more power than the wall hairdryers provided by some hotels. I'm all for minimalism when I travel, but this is one little luxury I will never go anywhere without.
It looks similar, this is the exact one I have:
https://www.amazon.com/BaByliss-BABNT053T-Titanium-Travel-Dryer/dp/B0041QZOF0/
And I agree, I also have the full size hair dryer and flat iron from this brand - I actually bought the full size versions because I was so happy with my travel units.
Not normally. However, I brought the below one on a recent trip to London. I had a taffeta ballgown skirt & satin top and I was carry on only. It’s dual voltage and only used an adapter, no converter. It worked well. I’ve used it at home too because it’s easier then my bigger tank unit. Yep, my Decathlon bag is the one that has stood the test of time. I bought it 18 years ago for college (f*********** I'm old) and it has been all around the world with me, despite spending £££ on various "one bag" travel bags.
Mine is an older iteration of this.
I haven't been travelling for a couple of years but last time I did, you could take two personal items onto a flight so I'd pair it with one of these hippie bags that I'd stitched a long zip into. The combination of these two meant I could travel for any period of time. Laptop, toiletries and maybe a jacket/scarf in the shoulder bag, everything else in the rucksack.
*Obvs this is r/heronebag and I've listed two bags but this is the travelling light system that worked the best for me, and came in at 32l total.
I absolutely love my Tortuga Setout. It’s a little over the price point, BUT they are having a sale atm that could make it a contender. Also, if you are in non-profit or edu, you can email the company directly for a discount:)
I used these to wash my laundry in the sink/bathtub while travelling and it was really handy! It’s quite small, will fit in the palm of your hand
I saw mention of Spirit in the comments. I don't know about your aesthetic, but I have successfully used this backpack on Spirit and also know it fits on Ryanair as well. It packs into its own pocket so you can put it away and never use it again at your destination. And it has a water bottle pocket (though I tend to walk on the plane with water bottle in my hand). The straps are lightly padded and even when fully loaded with heavy bottles and cans from the grocery store back to my self-cater lodging, did not dig into my shoulders ("unlike the webbing straps of some other backpacks," she adds, casting a pointed glance at Kanken and Patagonia).
Mine is pink because pink is my signature color and helps me know at a glance what is mine and what not. In the wild, I encountered someone else in Switzerland with the same backpack in orange. So that tells me that for an obscure backpack, it is rather popular.
I just flew delta (very different under seat size) but I loved using this tote!! I got it for free in a fab fit fun box but it seems you can get on poshmark. I used the two straps as a pseudo backpack but it’s also the perfect tote. Pretty cute if you’re not heart set on a backpack, and if you don’t totally fill it will roll down small
I've got 2A-3C hair, and use a wide-toothed comb. I find the hair brush makes for frizzier curls. I sometimes travel with a palm brush if I expect I'll want to put my hair up in a tight pony. (https://www.amazon.com/Meideli-Portable-Shampoo-Massager-Straight/dp/B09YCD1P1Y/ though probably better to buy just one at a drugstore)
Love it! Clear is definitely the best for me too. I use these clear bags for toiletries, chargers, makeup etc. - https://www.amazon.com/Packism-Cosmetic-Approved-Toiletry-Compliant/dp/B085Q17LSL - and I have some see-through mesh zip storage bags for packing.
Ziplocks are usually reserved for food and art supplies at my house, but I love reusing plastic grocery bags for dirty shoes, damp clothes, and trash!
3b-3c here, not collapsible, but I love this brush so much. I found that collapsible brushes had too much bounce when detangling.
