Would you consider releasing plain text versions of the new language's data?
Publishing as text files will save many hours of labor time for people who wish to make tools for your language. PDFs require hours of tedious transcription, whereas the data in a text file can be extracted in fractions of a second programmatically.
I understand that one of your primary aims must be to protect your work from misappropriation or adulteration. However, PDFs really are not more secure than text files in this regard--they are only more inconvenient to those who wish to study and share your work. If you're afraid that releasing in such a format will somehow endanger your claims on the language, there are any number of licenses that can be used freely--one of the Creative Commons Licenses should meet your needs.
As for your extralegal claims--the claims of artistry, authorship, authority over the language--it seems to me that these are also well disposed towards a plain text release. Here are some reasons:
Finally, I'm glad you've returned to this project. The the new phase of ~~Ithkuil~~ development is very exciting & I look forward to further updates.
Thank you for your time & consideration.
After looking closely at the document and this discussion (/u/HactarCE and /u/nelk114), I have a proposal for tweaking the specifications of the color roots.
specification | gloss |
---|---|
BSC | something {color}/to be a {color} thing |
CTE | the {color} color (of something)/to be, have a {color} color |
CSV | {color} object/entity |
OBJ | {color} light |
FCL | what functions as {color} |
FND | pigment/structure causing appearance of {color} |
INT | desired outcome/effect of {color} |
EXP | experience of seeing {color} |
PRQ | ability to perceive {color} |
To me this seems like a better use of the specifications but I'd love to hear thoughts.
>So, you're 16yo and is proficient in Ithkuil? Genius! It's great to see people like you.
I am not proficient now. I have not even scratched the surface of some areas such as the extensive personal referent adjunct system, and I think that I need to learn a lot more derivation suffixed before I can read kaduatan without any problems.
>I was reading about this too. The case of Polgar family is great example of constructed euphenics and how environment enrichment is important.
Oh I watched that video but I was personally thinking more about this father that taught his son klingon. Eventually the son grew tired of it and stopped answering his dad when he spoke in Kingon as the dad was the only speaking the language.
> Would be great, but duolingo seems to be proprietary software.
You actually have the ability to contact the duolingo team if you want to make a lesson for a language. There is a klingon duolingo in the works right now
> Too bad Markdown's doesn't have the table support required.
Technically no, but practically it does; many major Markdown flavors (including Github) support tables. There's also a lot of online tools that take other formats and spit out Markdown tables.
The Patreon website/service in particular requires running code that you can't read or control on your own computer. It also forbids users from donating anonymously. If JQ would accept donations, I would appreciate the option of using a more ethical platform such as Liberapay.
re merging FND and PRQ — this depends, I think, on whether we consider colour a property of the object or of the observer; I favour the former and so agree with the notion of merging them (the more specific contrast presumably derived using VxCs) and making space for FND as paint/pigment/&c.
As to BSC, I'd intuitively think it more apt to refer to the colour itself rather than an object bearing it; this would, of course, conflate it with CTE rather than OBJ (perhaps distinguishing along the lines of HactarCE's proposal), but it seems more ‘natural’.
