u/Few_Abbreviations_50 and u/Tron0001 here's a Breakthrough Secrets podcast with Moses Dungca, the creator of the youth competition bells we were discussing the other day. He recommends kids start around 8.
Quality sandbags are expensive (NGL), but if you're gentle you can get away with lower quality Amazon bags.
You can buy sand for like $3/60 lbs, usually. Even taping the bags together with duct tape is a solid start.
>Also finished Rodney Scott’s World of BBQ. It’s mostly a searing memoir of him wrestling with his relationship with his father and their history of cooking together, followed by tips for cooking a whole hog and then like a banana pudding recipe lol. Used his rub recipe for my pork shoulder (no ground ginger so Memphis rub next time!). He recommends MSG and damn if it doesn’t kick it up a notch.
I'll have to check that out. I spent nearly a decade in NC and the BBQ culture there is pretty fascinating. One of those things though where all the locals and many of the transplants have a strong opinion but at least 90% of them are actually super ignorant about the topic so a lot of false start conversations when the topic came up.
Your book reminded me that there's another rub you should check out after you try Memphis dust: the Fette Sau dry rub featured in the book Feeding the Fire is another really good one, it incorporates coffee into the rub. The book is more of a recipe book and is pretty decent, looks like you can get a hard copy for under $10 shipped on some used sites but I linked Amazon because you can read the dry rub recipe off one of the images they have on the listing.
If you're still looking for timer suggestions this is the one I use: Tabata Timer: Interval Timer
I like it so much I actually paid to remove the ads.
Had an awesome travel day workout this morning of 5 minutes of ABCs w/45lb/20kg bells straight into Tabata burpees straight into 50 DKB swings. Good little 10 minute metabolic primer.
On that note, I did a quick review on amazon, but for any baller on the budget with an amazon prime membership, I can absolutely vouch for these Amazon Basic Kettlebells
$53 for a free shipped 20kg bell is fantastic. I got in 6 unique killer workouts while I was traveling using them, bodyweight and a hill, and I'm more than certain it'd be an adequate enough stimulus to continue to build muscle and conditioning if I were forced to get creative.
I'll also vouch for the No Bull Hightop Trainer This was the shoe I used for all my training sessions this week. I prefer to use a weightlifting shoe when balling, but with me combining bodyweight and hill running into the workouts, this honestly worked out fantastic, and I still felt comfortable hitting snatches, cleans and swings in them. My only grip is that they're difficult to put on/take off, but that's on me for liking the high top.
In non-product review news, I weighed in at 179.8, clothed with my cellphone in my pocket, post breakfast this morning. That's alarming. I am primed to grow.
Really good video and important as well!
I saw /u/tron0001 post about a forearm roller (armaid) and got myself a cheaper simpler one which has been a huge help to relieve finger stiffness (after heavy swings in my case).
Posted this to yesterday, but felt worthy enough for reshape
Well ballers, I did it: I bought 2 of these and had them shipped to my folks so I can ball while I'm on vacation. You have infected me.
And on that note: I got my 26 ABCs in 5 minutes today with the 24s. I need to get it on video to make it legit.
Also, some food porn from yesterday
Double shrimp burger
Keto bun
Chicken bacon
Zero cal mayo
Sugar free BBQ sauce
Fat free cheese
Sautéed onions
Diet food can still be nasty

That subreddit is incredibly eye opening. It's good perspective for the sake of duality. I grew up a fat kid and still have those instincts as well. I dropped down to stupid lean in 2019/2020 and, through the process, learned just how much food I DIDN'T need to eat. Meanwhile, it's a constant battle to explain to those cats how much they DO need to eat to reach their goals.
To say nothing of all of us having such damaged relationships with food. Just like you wrote "comfort food". How bizarrebut equally bizarre is "food is fuel". Somewhere in the middle is moderation. And then we have perpetually underweight people worried about getting fat!
Full spin now: meatloaf is awesome! Pat Casey would eat meatloaf sandwiches in the middle of workouts. We could stand to learn from him. That's actually my favorite part about meatloaf: the leftovers. Assuming I can ever leave any behind.
My mother-in-law is from Iowa, and she went to college in Hawaii, where she eventually married her husband. My wife, in turn, grew up learning midwest AND local island cooking. I am a VERY fortunate man when it comes to meal time.
I still have an idea of telling them to use This book and cook dwarf recipes for gaining and elf recipes for fat loss. Human and halfling for maintenance.
It’s the honey badger of callus removal. I feel like I really don’t need more gadgets, but i realize now I needed this.
I have this one:
Colossal foot rasp foot file and Callus remover. Best Foot care pedicure metal surface tool to remove hard skin. Can be Used on both wet and dry feet, Surgical grade stainless steel file https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VPVEVSK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_CA09HJ4H7G919X79W6BV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I’m definitely removing layers every day. If you think yours is more aggressive, I might upgrade
Recipe was easy: I took 1lb of grassfed beef and 1lb of the liver and mashed them together using this seasoning and the instructions on it. I went with 2oz of the seasoning with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar (didn't have regular vinegar) and 1/4 cup of water. Left it in the fridge overnight, and going to cook it on the stove tonight.
I picked up a standalone set of dip bars off Amazon for $75 I think pre-pandemic, and I know there's a bunch of calisthenics athletes with neat setups for similar indoors.
This looks neat, though I imagine there's more well made versions out there
This book has been the corner stone for a lot of my understanding of MSK pain.
Pain is now considered an experience rather than a sensation. This sounds weird, right. Like nocicpetion should be a sensation and yet when you are clinically depressed with a PHD-9 suggesting moderate to severe depression your sensitivity to pain is seriously enhanced.
The prevailing theory for fibromyalgia is that it's likely a somatic manigestation of depression; recently though it appears to be an autoimmune disease. The first line treatment for fibromyalgia is duloxetine, which is an antidepressant.
You might enjoy this book at any point you feel like a break from more serious philosophy. It’s not actually anti-internet as the title sort of implies but puts forward and interesting claim on how the media we use influences our cognition. It is also a nice overview of various mediums for reading and writing and the types of thought that are deemed valuable. I found it an interesting read and quite thought provoking.
If wanting to learn about philosophy in general, might be a good idea to look for like a used University textbook for a philosophy 101 course. Get a good overview of what's out there. I also like the "and philosophy" series, like this one. They have one for a TON of subject matters, so if you have something that you already have an interest in, using those can help understand philosophy from that lens.
Any of you ballers read Viking Warrior Conditioning?
It's got my interest
I use the 8" version at home to make my daily breakfast.
I think they are called power resistance bands? Bands for rows, push ups, combining with weights. Mainly for accessory work.
Was thinking maybe something like this? loop band
Same. I think there must be a small number of actual manufacturers that everyone just puts their name on. Bought a few local and a few on Amazon.

It's one of his books! I think that's what the quote you just linked is pulled from haha
And so on.
>What kind of gloves do you use
No dots - don't want the grip.
I typically do this later in the day and/or the next day rather than as a cool down, but one thing that really helps my recovery is what I like to call my "redneck theragun" which is just the battery powered jigsaw I already had plus these attachments from amazon
