We bought this honker a year ago for about $500 for me and our asthma my kitty. We run it 24/7 on the 2nd the lowest speed. It works great and we haven't even had to replace the filters yet.
i use free and clear shampoo and conditioner (product link)
“natural” is a danger word for me and i know others—there are lots of highly irritating fragrances and substances that seem like they “should” be “safe” because they’re “natural” but they don’t go through the same quality controls that other more standardized ingredients do and can be intrinsically irritating (nettles are natural but i certainly wouldn’t rub them on my skin!). Lavender is a big one to watch out for in my experience!
H1 antihistamines are like a style thing with people; some people love one thing and some love something else. Personally, and quite bluntly, loratidine/Claritin is garbage; fexofenidine (sp)/Allegra is garbage; Xyzal is okay; cetirizine is clearly the best. I've been taking this - ranging between 1 and 4 per day - for 4 years or so (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D9UVU20/) - and I stand by (specifically) Rising as a brand for Cetirizine.
Famotidine is definitely the H2 antihistamine one should take; even putting aside the probably cancer risk of ranitidine/Zantac.
I tried this one: Medisafe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.medisafe.android.client
It's good to set timers. Better for just a couple meds...for supplements I had to go old school spreadsheet and pill box. Lol.
Codeage works the same for me as Ancestral did & cheaper.

I use All free and clear, or this, and usually run a second rinse. I’ve done just fine with this cheap a,axon stuff though. https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Detergent-Hypoallergenic-Perfumes-dp-B09CLRVRRH/dp/B09CLRVRRH/ref=dp_ob_title_hpc?th=1
I'm trying out baking soda and water, currently. Hoping to work up to an actual toothpaste product...
I was going to try out these before I discovered I had a corn allergy. Apart from the calcium phosphate, most of the ingredients seemed histamine-safe. But again I haven't tried that so I can't recommend it one way or another.
Oh I think I need to clarify this in the original post.
For the D3, it was meant to be more than a 1000 IU, not mcgs. The B12 is more than 1000mcgs. I started by using this supplement for the D3, which has 100mcgs. Normal D3 supplements usually have between 5 and 25mcgs.
I will edit my post!
That's awesome! Mind sharing what brand it is? I'm thinking of getting the BulkSupplements one but open to other suggestions.
I didn't realize gluconate was, that's good to know. I might look into that as a backup.
And yeah agreed! Just tried apples recently in my pressure cooker and I can eat them without reacting, amazingly. So I'll give that a shot. Sadly I tested positive for potato allergy on a food blood panel a few weeks ago...
Thank you so much for the quick response!!!
I've been taking DAO supplements ( https://diemnutrition.com/shop/histamine-digest-mc360-with-dao-120-capsules/ ) and 1500mg of quercetin ( https://www.amazon.ca/Webber-Naturals-Quercetin-Vegetarian-Capsule/dp/B08WV9BPJD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1711HR2TU4YNC&keywords=quercetin+500mg&qid=1671120016&sprefix=quercetin+%2Caps%2C439&sr=8-3 ) Feeling much better after adding those to my meds
Late to this, but I got diagnosed with a corn allergy literally last week, so your post is incredibly timely for me, lol.
I've had mild reactions from corn ever since I was a kid-- face warm, headache, almost fever-like symptoms. I felt like I was crazy; I'd feel feverish and then take my temperature and it'd be normal.
If anyone else has corn problems and is interested, I'm trying to find a corn-free Vitamin C supplement and am looking into acerola cherry powder as an option. I made a post about oxalates and Vitamin C here.
So sorry to hear you were hospitalized. I have been hospitalized several times, too. And I hear you on side effects. I'm a little worried about the long-term side effects even from the H2 blocker (pepcid AC / famotidine) that I'm on.
I don't know if you've heard about it much, but I take taurine (2000mg a day) because there's evidence that it's a modest mast cell stabilizer. I didn't expect it when I started taking it, but it actually made me feel calm, positive and more able to focus. I noticed that effect even at a 400mg dose once a day. I still need my other meds and low-histamine diet to eat, but for quality of life it's done wonders for me. I have surprisingly little mental stress right now, given the hell-ride that is MCAS, lol.
I'm just starting to get into quercetin at low doses (quercetin dihydrate, that is), and it seems to be helping a little without giving me any allergic reactions. But, YMMV.
> This diet and lifestyle is too restrictive.
Yeah, agreed. I'm trying to get out of this shit as fast as possible, lol. Hence the username.
No problem! This is the one I currently use, although I'm sure many other brands are fine. I used to take it as a capsule but then started reacting to the fillers.
Ah, that's so tough, I'm sorry. I have no idea how I react to salicylates.. other than seeming to tolerate the quercetin. I should probably try to track that.
I hope we heal soon, too. Best of luck to you!!
There's an unscented Softsoap, I've been able to use that. https://www.amazon.com/Softsoap-Liquid-Aquarium-64-Ounce-Refill/dp/B00CF40WGG
I know this feeling so so well. We can only take so much. I’m just so sorry. Also to answer the last part of your original comment, I got really sick with either Covid or a bad flu or mono (they weren’t doing Covid testing at urgent care centers yet) in March of 2020, and that triggered MCAS for me. I researched all my symptoms and then eventually found a doctor who was able to diagnose me with it. That’s the short version haha. But since then I’ve been trying different meds that will maybe work for a bit and then stop, or not work at all. And that doctor can’t prescribe the heavy stuff.
But yes! Here are a couple things for you:
this site has been helpful for me
Dr. Afrin’s book about MCAS which I was able to find at my library!
Jul 1, 2013 — Several studies have reported that capsaicin is effective in relief and prevention of migraine headaches, improves digestion, (another study from 1991 states that capsaicin does not appear to trigger histamine release from mast cells when applied to the skin)

I am so very sorry to hear this. Perhaps I could advise having FB and joining FB groups on the subject? This way, you can hear what the specialists are whispering to their patients. And what the involved patients doing their own research have to say about their own experiments.
My MCAS is less because I have been working on Hormone Replacement Therapy, and hypothyroid stuff, and of course, keeping my blood sugar good as a type 1 diabetic. I do an awful lot to try and prevent the slide to even more sickness. I hope just a little bit because I trust my research. Not exactly getting doctor support over here. Also, very poor. God Speed, etc.
Here is a really good book on the subject: https://www.amazon.ca/Never-Bet-Against-Occam-Activation/dp/0997319615/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=YXJSK3Q9CK7E&keywords=never+bet+against+occam&qid=1666124253&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjEzIiwicXNhIjoiMC41NSIsInFzcCI6IjAuNTcifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=never+bet...
I was told by my doctor to mix it with water, instead of just swallowing a capsule, so I bought this powder: https://smile.amazon.com/Quercetin-Dihydrate-Powerfully-Cardiovascular-Anti-Inflammatory/dp/B01DPW5IWY/
It worked well, but I've found all quercetin has the side effect of making me super tired, so I'm off of it now, and am on cromolyn instead.
The probiotics varied quite a bit. I had multiple given to me by my doctor called Ortho-Biotic. But the over the counter one that I used was a low histamine probiotic. My body was not a fan of pill probiotics but I forced them down.
Kefir yogurt was much gentler on me than the pills and I felt like they did more than the probiotic pills. In fact, I still take a shot of yogurt every morning.
The GI powder is what really helped push me into recovery though. Its called UltraGI Replenish. It is considered a prescription medicine though, you need a practitioner code to even order it online. Once I got better and was able to eat everything again, I stopped using this and have not had any relapses.
I use the Fig app. It offers a low-histamine diet as an option and allows you to edit each food individually if you know what you do and do not tolerate. There's a few reasons you see so many conflicting answers regarding safe foods. Everyone is different and reacts different- that's the easy one. Many react to "safe" foods when in a flare, meaning their "safe" list depends on how controlled their symptoms are any given moment. Also, foods that you can normally eat but are leftover from 24+ hours ago have higher histamine levels the longer they aren't eaten- meaning foods you can eat fresh you might not tolerate later. Another issue is there's a difference between high-histamine foods and histamine-liberators. Maybe you can eat X food by itself, but when you eat X food AND a histamine-liberator food together you react. The Fig app takes all of this into consideration. So following a strict low-histamine diet as an elimination diet can help you sort out what you can and cannot tolerate.
I've tried a variety of protein shakes. The one I'll link below isn't fantastic, but it is palatable in my opinion. And I usually get vanilla and blend it with a milk I tolerate and maybe some fruit or an extract (like orange extract). That seems to make it a little better.

EZ Melts has a ton of good sublingual vitamins and other supplements in the US. I don't react to any of the ones I've taken. I'm not a fan of their multivitamin because of the flavor, but all the others taste good and I'm a really picky eater, so it'll probably be fine for you. https://smile.amazon.com/EZ-Melts-Multivitamin-Sublingual-Vitamins/dp/B00VVQMGMM/
I use saponified olive oil. It leaves my hair a little more oily than I'd like and shipping is expensive, but there's literally only two ingredients, so I don't have to worry about reacting to it. There's no surfactants so it doesn't really feel sudsy. It does take some getting used to using.
You might have better luck with a soap rather than a shampoo. Both should work. Pure olive oil soap would probably work. However, some don't like the smell. I also found this soap/facial cleanser without any coconut: https://smile.amazon.com/SheaMoisture-Blemish-Prone-African-Paraben-cleanser/dp/B08YP8YVTS/
Good luck!
I have tried several brands and this one has been the best so far. I did not see coconut as an ingredient so maybe it will help you too.
I have resting pressure and spasms of the esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter which are the worst chest pain I’ve ever experienced. I take buspirone for this, as well as a ppi and occasional antacids. I also take an H2 blocker.
I take 7 Natural Factors Bioactive Quercetin EMIQ, daily so 350 mg. I take 2 with breakfast, 3 throughout the day with my buspirone and 2 with dinner.
Red rooibos works for me. No reaction issues whatsoever. This rooibos masala chai is my jam.
There are some broad brimmed visors that might be a good alternative to you. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Women-Protection-Ponytail-Summer-Foldable/dp/B0989YWW7R/ You'd just need to make sure your hair doesn't have a part.
i'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this. it's a shame that we haven't figured out how to provide enough medical care to people- especially those in crisis.
are there people you can reach out to? it sounds like you really need external support right now. sometimes having someone there to listen to you cry or scream is way more cathartic than doing it alone. and no one should ever have to go through anything, much less something like this, by themselves.
have you done a methylhistamine test? i honestly wasn't expecting to see anything because I don't react with severe anaphylaxis yet, but my histamine level was through the roof. maybe a 24 hour collection could convince someone that they need to provide you with more care.
on another note, i started taking this supplement https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078K8L672/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it has allowed me to eat some foods again that were previously off limits. small quantities, of course, and nothing too insane- but i was astonished when i ate a strawberry and didn't watch my skin turn into a pepperoni pizza. as for getting over the fear, it is inordinately terrifying to eat something and have your throat swell (I have the same reaction) and then have it make you sick. but i'm also sick of being afraid. some days are just better than others, I suppose. I'm not in the UK, so i'm uninformed on how medical care is over there. i do hope that you find something that can offer you reprieve from this nightmare. sending you good vibes and support .
Cetaphil Gentle cleanser. Must be the gentle version.
Cetaphil advanced relief skin cream with shea butter.
Argan oil.
Your big problem is that stuff strong enough for acne is too harsh for rosacea, and rosacea products are too mild for acne.
You might tolerate salicylic acid. You might tolerate a week aha.
Metro gel is good for rosacea.
Any cream with MSM would be good for both. Sulfur is also good for both but is harsher. I used to use Honeyskin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QUKS6NW/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=84cef37752cb6924b0f0222b6e77a7b5&hsa_cr_id=7168281500601&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_r=78c9fd72-c781-4165-aa55-92dc491a90f7&pd_rd_w=8ntEG&pd_rd_wg=...
I can't take regular vitamin C either, but I haven't had problems with Swanson Buffered Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids. I think it only comes in 500 mg tablets.
100% invest in an ozone machine. We had new carpet installed in October that had to be replaced because of the smell; so we ended up having 2 new carpets. I couldn't walk into my home without my throat closing. After the 2nd new carpet was installed, it still smelled in the house. We bought an ozone machine and the smell was gone. This is the one we bought. Life changer.
GOOD LUCK!!!
I use better life sometimes 7th gen has salicylates depending on the product.

I am finding making yogurt from histamine reducing probiotics to be very beneficial. It is extremely easy to do and there are a ton of recipes to follow online. If you can’t handle the milk based— there is coconut based. I can handle the milk (I’m not sure yogurt is actually high in histamine if it’s made fresh and it only takes like 12 hours to make so…).
I also am finding methylene blue to be a godsend. I’m only on day three but WOW it’s reducing my inflammation a lot.
I take reduced glutathione to soak up mast cell mediators and this has made a huge difference for me as well.
20mg Claritin 2x daily. It will help :) but it’s a short term solution imo.
Get tested for tick borne illness. My mcas is mostly drivel by bartonella.
Mine still aren't "down". They went down moderately when I stopped testosterone, and also I use this estrogen blocker, although there's plenty of those on the market (I'm also interested in trying the genius brand one. The one I linked has no triggers for me and there's a clear difference in energy and brain fog and inflammation when I forget to take it.
I take Mirica Advanced Enhanced Absorption Formula PEA and Luteolin daily. It has 300 mg of PEA. It was life-changing for me. A few hours after taking it, my pain was gone and my inflammation lowered drastically- no swollen joints or fingers and my mouth swelling decreased. I cried when I realized how much pain I was in before and had been tolerating for decades. I have been taking it for a year and the bottle says you can take up to 900 mg a day.

The gist is that 25% of people do not have the gene that creates an antibody to remove mold toxin from the body. To compensate, you can take a toxin binder which will attach to the mold toxin and help your body clear it. This screwed me because I didn't know this when I got mold poisoning years ago. I went to an Immunologist who gave me meds to kill the mold, but didn't have me take a binder. I probably killed the mold and most the toxin remained in my system, causing me to develop MCAS and other issues. I'm seeing a new Immunologist who immediately caught this and prescribed me Chlorestyramine, as it's a powerful binder. With that, my C4 levels returned to normal. In the meantime, you could try this one, but don't overdue it. More isn't better when you're just starting a binder and are dealing with bad MCAS: https://www.amazon.com/G-I-Detox-Gentle-Binder-Biocidin/dp/B009KT9TEU/ref=sr_1_7?crid=PUTZ6BLDDV82&keywords=toxin+binder+supplement&qid=1640474227&sprefix=toxin+binder%2Caps%2C647&sr=8-7 Your C4 levels are super high and that indicates an active mold exposure. I'd be wary of your home and office. One last bit of advice, read Toxic by Neil Nathan. Having that knowledge will help you know if your doctor knows what they're talking about or not. Only a tiny % will.

I didn’t have any issues with liposomal glutathione! BUT I started taking this product instead and my doctor said I “have the best glutathione levels” she has ever seen. This creates sulphoraphane which in turn nudges your body to create glutathione, NATURALLY. Itself. So it’s the most bioavailable form, since you’re creating it yourself!
I'm not from Ontario, sorry, but I wonder if naturopaths have prescribing rights in your province? They do here, and that's how I got my first round of cromolyn sodium until I was able to get in to see my functional dr. If not, I would suggest trying just that - a functional or integrative dr. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, hopefully someone on here will.
I wonder if something like this pure quercetin powder would help to start? I have not had this product so I can't vouch, I would research. But it says it doesn't have fillers. Quercetin is a great natural mast cell stabilizer and really helped me when I was without a doctor. And maybe some filler-free vitamin c, which is also a mast cell stabilizer.
Ah. Well in that case Phillip Adam fragrance free has also worked for me but & I had no reactions but I ended up doing the bar after that since it still had less ingredients and less chances of reactions. This one still has Chamomile & Nettle etc not sure if you avoid EO’s or not too.

If your doctor didn't have you take a toxin binder while fighting the mold, I highly recommend you get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V8LLVR2/ref=sw_img_1?smid=&psc=1
Some people can't get the toxins out of their system naturally so your treatment may have killed the mold but left all of the horrible toxins. FWIW, I'm new to MCAS too. My doctor gave me Chromolyn and Ketotifen (1mg). They said that once I get all of the mold toxin out of my body with a binder, my MCAS symptoms should diminish. I'd also recommend reading Toxic by Dr. Neil Nathan so that you have a good set of knowledge to find a doctor that knows how to deal properly with MCAS.

There are bedding sprays for allergies available. I used them in the past and liked them, but to be honest, I’m not entirely sure if they worked for me consistently.
Here’s an example: Allersearch ADMS Anti-Allergen Spray 32 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0010DLYR4/
I think these might just be some very watered down tea tree oil, which does kill dust mites. The scent is super mild, if nonexistent. There are also allergy washes like this on amazon, but you could probably get the same effect by putting 2 drops of tea tree oil in your laundry. No lasting smell.
Edit: tea tree also kills mold.
My husband gets this and has tried all sorts of creams, including steroids, without change. What has made it completely disappear is Burt’s Bees Baby 100% Natural Multipurpose Ointment I only gave it to him to try as already had a pot but it worked amazingly well.
have you heard of the new "Quercetin LipoMicel" - https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Factors-Quercetin-LipoMicel-Softgels/dp/B08GZGXQK9
This is what I got from the manufacturer:
>EMIQ is absorbed up to 40X[] better than regular quercetin, and each capsule provides 50mg of highly absorbable quercetin (from 167mg complex). Whereas, our Quercetin LipoMicel is absorbed up to 10X[] better than regular quercetin, and each capsule provides 250mg of highly absorbable quercetin. What this means is that on a per capsule comparison, with EMIQ, that is 2000mg equivalency versus 2500mg equivalency with our LipoMicel. So, you are getting more quercetin per capsule with our LipoMicel.
I usually eat an egg yolk scramble from breakfast or a peach/pear/apple as I don't react to those. If you're ok with oats I love this brand. I don't do well with oats, but can eat them once a week fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FNP1IQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_IVDSFBOUGYsjL Also making chia seed pudding with blueberries(1/2cup sauteed to release juices), chia seeds(2tbls) and coconut milk(1/2cup) then topped with pumpkin seeds. I don't leave it in the fridge for more than an hour which allows it to get to a pudding consistency without giving it time to build histamine.
