Looks like there was a book published in 2014: The Sober Truth: Debunking the Bad Science Behind 12-Step Programs and the Rehab Industry
The blurb makes it sound like a meta-analysis. "Dr. Dodes analyzes dozens of studies to reveal a startling pattern of errors, misjudgments, and biases. He also pores over the research to highlight the best peer-reviewed studies available and discovers that they reach a grim consensus on the program’s overall success."
I think I'm gonna pick this up
Not a podcast, but the Oxford Companion to Sugar and Sweets is excellent. Marion Nestle's tag for sugar is a good starting place. Also check out the book Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz.
The first season of The Dream was so good! If you dig the MLM angle, I highly recommend the LuLaRich documentary on Amazon Prime, and one of the participants has a great anti-MLM podcast called Life After MLM that covers all kinds of different companies, as well as LuLaRoe.
Correct. Unfortunately most Americans and westerners eat too much of it which lead to larger problems. We have horrible dental health. Are there things our government could be doing to improve societies dental problems such as universal health care? Yes 100%. For more on that issue check out the book, Teeth by Mary Otto. But there are also things that can be done on an individual level. Those aren’t contradictory statements https://www.amazon.com/Teeth-Mary-Otto-audiobook/dp/B06ZXTL74B/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=3V0IRMQH1GKTL&keywords=teeth+book&qid=1659971197&sprefix=teeth+book%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-3
Yes, you are stating the Law of Conservation of Energy, first proposed by Émilie du Châtelet in 1722:
> In a closed system (i.e. there is no transfer of matter into or out of the system) energy can neither be created nor destroyed (Bold is mine).
What you can see is that you are misquoting the Law when you omit the part about a closed system. Most famously, human bodies are not a closed system.
I think it’s admirable that you know this one Law, but I encourage you to use your curiosity to keep learning. While physics is great, much of biology and human anatomy cannot be answered with Laws from Physics alone.
A great place to start (if you’re not a troll like you’re coming across) is this article here by Traci Mann. It describes how, yes, people can lose weight following a strict diet. But that their bodies do have a natural tendency towards specific weights.
TL: dr Losing weight is more complex than a single Law. I encourage you to open your mind and maybe check out this podcast Maintenance Phase to learn more about the complexities of diet culture.
