Something like this would be a good place to start.
There are multiple methods, strategically using washes or Citadel Contrasts, but I decided to go old school and paint them individually with the Army Painter Insane detail brush. https://www.amazon.com/Army-Painter-Wargamer-Brush-Insane-Detail/dp/B0027SAYW2
I use something similar to these
Not entirely sure if this is what you're asking, but I've placed all mine in 4 x 6 hard plastic toploaders. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Post-Photo-Topload-Holders/dp/B00FOAI8V4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=bcw+4x6&qid=1595466119&sr=8-3
But don't get them at that price point, you can get them way cheaper elsewhere. Anyway, keeps them safe and stylish.
$120 in canada, what a rip
says its on sale, meanwhile they raised the price $25 since yesterday
Keep it simple. Your collection will grow as you need more thinks and your skills upgrade.
I had a GREAT time with the Reaper Minis starter set. Couple brushes, some paints, 3 minis to paint and STEP BY STEP DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO DO IT. This gives you some basic techniques to get started and they can be applied in a lot of situations.
On top of that, I find the reaper paints to be a bit thinner than most other brands, which is GREAT starting out… as you’ll learn.
I've recently switched to magnetised storage boxes for my minis (mostly 40k, MCP and some others).
My method is to get a 4 or 9 litre really useful box (here's their site I know amazon UK often has them in stock too). These boxes are designed to fit A4 paper, plus about 2 inches of extra space. This means you can buy sheets of rubber steel in A4 size and pop them straight in, plus a small strip to cover the gap.
For the minis I use a 6x2mm magnet under the base for almost everything, MCP needs them a bit thinner though, I go for 6x1.5. Most models only need one magnet, some larger ones get two. For the Hulk I used 12x1mm.
I find using the rubber steel gives the right balance between holding them safely in places and not so strong you have a hard time taking them out of the box. Just be careful not to get magnetic rubber which is much more common. Rubber steel (or ferrous rubber) is magnetically receptive, but not magnetic itself. This means it holds your minis a lot better than the magnetic sheets. This is the brand I use it's not the cheapest, but since one pack does four boxes and that would hold a lot of MCP minis it's not too bad.
As for the minis sticking to each other I've never had that happen, even trying to make it happen I have to put two together base to base. Disc magnets are a lot stronger on the flat faces than the sides so they won't stick together in that way. I just tested this by putting two magnets down in the bottom of one of my boxes, they won't snap together until they are less than 1mm away, and if they have the same polarity (both north sides upwards for example) they actually repel each other when they get within 1mm and slide away.
I use this varnish on all my models. Keep in mind it will kill any gloss/shine you have on the model so be sure to apply those effects AFTER you varnish. Just make sure you don't get a glossy version, since sometimes places like amazon get them mixed up.
Practice thinning your paints. There is a sweet spot that you’ll want to get familiar with. Not too thick; Not too thin. And like Lord-Uglor said, get some plastic glue for best results. I, myself, use Tamiya Plastic cement.
Not OP, but I have experience with this. You want 3" x 4" top loaders, or "post card sleeves". Like this.
Just tell someone to print this stl at a height of 40mm. Should turn out fine. It admit-ably isn't a great pose for the game, but its one of the better ones I've seen for the character.
I've been using Testors glue cause it was included in a beginner set with brushes and a knife, I would do the basic glue it all together then prop it in place overnight, I've only had one character come off but it was because I was testing the glue out and pulled them off. it was a decent amount of force to me.
Okay good to hear about the lighter colors, got worried I was messing something up, about the wash... what is that? is it like diluting the paint with water or how does that work?
additionally, I'd like to ask about #4 is it best to put the figure fully together before painting or could you section it? (like Goblin and his glider, or ghost and his bike)
about #5 it's for the intent of the game (I've convinced my father to play cause he grew up with comics), but if I buy dupes I will definitely enjoy tweaking around with different bases beings i already have 7 extra smalls and 2 extra mediums.
Slight direction question, I've got the base and all the Hell's Kitchen (Kingpin, daredevil, punisher, Luke, and Danny) cause I loved the down to earthiness of their characters and tv shows and was looking into going into Asgard because it looked like another small group, but what is a good character set to go into? (I already have Spidy villains also)
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge! I am so happy to have found this Reddit where I can see the great work of people from basic to craftsman, and I will share some of mine soon!
P.S. Any tips on paint sets, I've been using the Army Painters Adventure set, cause it has a simple set of colors and a primer included. (like I said I'm completely new to all this, I didn't expect at first to spend an additional $40 on paint and tools) and i have a brush scale of 4,2,1,0,00,000
P.S.S. Thanks again for helping me!
tackle boxes are perfect for games like these, I use them for MCP, SW Armada etc.. this is a 6 pack for under $28, comes out to less than $5 each

Are you using clippers to remove pieces from the sprue? I don't see how that would have snapped unless you were trying to twist or bend the piece off by hand. I'd recommend picking some up, you'll get cleaner cuts and won't stress the plastic.
I always try to not buy from Amazon, but they're easy to link to for examples. Something like this should be available in any local hardware store.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RW8VTSX/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_GF20GJW9A6YCRRGX37TM
Garbage Truck Toy Model,1:43 Scale Metal Diecast Recycling Clean Trash Garbage Rubbish Waste Transport Truck Alloy Model Mold Car Toy with Garbage Cans for Kids Toddlers Birthday Party Supplies(Gray) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B3TGK91/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glc_fabc_61ZVJDH59EPHXYG8BBNC
These should do the trick. They are tiny but that obviously makes then difficult to work with. But I've had great luck with Magnet modifications. Mainly for Star Wars Legion.
Amazon has a couple modeling kits really cheap. They come with pretty much everything
BXQINLENX Professional 17 PCS Gundam Model Tools Kit Modeler Basic Tools Craft Set Hobby Building Tools Kit for Gundam Car Model Building Repairing and Fixing(L) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077XQF6JM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_b4YbEb24DXHHD
Just cause it says gundam doesnt mean it couldnt be used for MCP
Gamefor is an app that may help.
There is great youtuber I watch his channel is called "tabletop minions" his day job he works for the company that made the Gamefor app. So he plugs the app alot.
It's meant to help tabletop gamers find shops and meet ups to play and buy game stuff etc
Here is a link to the google app store to download it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iamgamefor.gamefor
Rule #1, Allways thin your paints. Now as for priming just make sure you get a white primer, these heros and villians are supposed to be brightly colored. If you prime them whith a black or even grey you will likely be disapointed. Next if you have the means, there is a decent set of vallejo on amazon Vallejo Basic USA Colors Paint Set, 17ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009162PWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZRumEbB5JZ17Z This set will likely be all you need it has your basic roygbiv, silver, gold, black, white, brown and a flesh. The rest is a matter of you deciding how involved you want to get. There are guides and guides and guides on youtube. But if you just want to watch someone paint marvel minis epic duck or sorastro are very good and pretty fun to watch
