I don't mean to be a jerk but this is a complex sector and it is important to understand how to do some DD to verify claims made by companies and also claims made by posters.

The tweet has a patent number (US9045481B2) and if you google "US9045481B2 patent" it will resolve to an authoritative source (USPTO) and the expiration.

The numbers in the claims are the claims on the new patent and you will find the innovative ones are related to metabolites only.

MMED filed a patent for 18-mc. It expires soon.

MMED filed a new patent more limited in scope (specifically the claims are now limited to metabolites of 18-mc).
