Definitely get these grips. Pop out the default hand lanyards too though, they get in the way once these grips are clipped on. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07X117LPR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Another tip, check humble bundle for vr deals. I got loads of vr games on the cheap that way.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, and all the standard troubleshooting fails as well, you may have received a defective unit. I'd RMA it in that case.

My entire Rift S has no foam touching my face. It's all covered in silicone "wraps" which you can just wipe off and clean if it gets sweaty.

Inateck Superspeed 7 Ports PCI-E... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00FPIMICA
It’s a little pricey now, I bought it in Canada some time ago for 20 something dollars. You are sure to find some other recommendations searching for “ rift s usb hub” or something like that. External hubs seem to work also as long as they are powered. This internal card is just less wire kicking around. Good luck.
Pairing up with you on these questions and following this post lol!! Just got my Rift S a few weeks ago too and am completely in love and I want to the things it deserves lol. I’ve already grabbed the Kiwi pulleys and extender cables for the USBC and DP. haven’t installed since I’m moving to a bigger apartment on the first. I’m struggling w the battery issue — particularly in the left controller.
Here are two accessories I grabbed that I would highly recommend. I play a decent amount of beat saber so the face pad is a lifesaver (and headband saver lol) Lens Protector VR Face Pad
I got this one and it works for me.

Can you post the make/model of your laptop?
It's been a while since I looked at it, but I believe Rift S specifically requires a DisplayPort, because the Oculus software won't recognise an HDMI out even if you add an adaptor.
If your USB-C port has "DP Alt Mode" then you *should* be able to use a USB-C to DP adaptor that is designed for DP Alt Mode ports and the Oculus software *should* recognise it.
However, depending on how the manufacturer set up the GPU, this may still not work.
Sorry I can't give a definitive answer, but hope that helped.
Which Inateck card did you try? We've tested our USB 3.2 PCIe card like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08M5YHWFD. It works with Rift S perfectly. If you have any problem while using the Inateck card, just feel free to contact customer support for help.
Looks very similar to the one I bought.
I had a rough time with my sisters USB ports(her rift and mine would work on my PC but not hers even though we both had 3.0 usb ports).
What ended up working was installing these. (this might be your problem) They didn't work, but I figured out while I had it in the correct slot on the motherboard it didn't have enough power going to the ports(what I think a lot of the USB problems are). I had to make sure the plug to the psu was properly plugged in to the usb adapter. Worked after that. Don't know if any of that will help you, but worth a shot if you haven't done it already.
I found a replacement for my brothers which he said worked great amvr rift s replacement foam
Yep, this is the brand I got. “VR Cover for Meta/Oculus™ Rift S - Washable Hygienic Cotton Cover (2 pcs) https://amazon.com/dp/B0816P7L4S/“. I’ve washed them and they come out fine. You get two so one can be in the wash and you can keep gaming.
or using an item like this: https://www.amazon.com/ANRANK-Extension-Adapter-Splitter-Y-Cable/dp/B07PV8ZN1X/ref=psdc_464394_t1_B00NIGO4NM
I bought this one just a few month into my rift s, (March 2019) it was only $95 then. Headset Cable for Oculus Rift S 5m
Do you have a type-c connection input on your gaming laptop? Get a Type-C USB dock (make sure it's 3.0) and use that.
Something like this...
Hey!
I had the same problem, but the opposite way. What you are getting is pretty much reverse stick drift.
I would advise you to buy some WD-40 Contact Cleaner:
https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00AF0OFVU
Spray the inside top of the joystick firmly and move it in all directions, don't be scared of putting in a lot of spray as it's not harmful to electronic components.
I hope you can save your left controller, if this doesn't work you may want to redirect yourself to Oculus' support. Until then, good luck!
Get a case, then you don't have to worry about accidentally screwing the lenses with sunlight, as it will always be tucked away.
If you have the room/don't mind stuff being stuck to your ceiling, these are excellent.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Managment-Suspension-Playstation-Accessories-Retractable/dp/B0777H24ZG
But the best tip I ever got was, get 4 AA rechargeable batteries, so you have a constant charged set for your controllers!
I use this “ring” protectors to prevent the breakage from expanding. (I got the protectors after one of mine started developing a crack)
https://www.amazon.com/Peanut-Printers-Bumper-Protector-Oculus-Touch/dp/B08F3BYB47
That's one step that Oculus recommends. Here are some sites I bookmarked when I got the black screen. https://www.one-tab.com/page/OGGSWNlDSDGYoS22FBtHtQ
I eventually replaced my Rift S because the black screen woudn't go away. When I got home and plugged my new Rift S into the computer it worked. But I can't guarantee that the original headset was the problem. As those bookmarks show, it is / was a known problem. I haven't researched the topic since my problem because it never came back.
Amazon had this as the first thing when I did a google search.
AMVR VR Facial Interface Soft Bracket & PU Leather Foam Face Cover Pad Replacement Comfort Set for Oculus Rift S (A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z3DW7T5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4NQRAXXNKAKDN02QMYN1
I bought some of the pu leather replacement pieces for the front and back padding of the halo strap and facial interface, for hygiene more than comfort reasons as they can be wiped down after sessions and don't absorb sweat or grab hair like the foam ones do. They are also comfortable.
EDIT:

I think that's the one I purchased for myself, but its been a while and I'm not 100% sure.
Honestly, I'm no tech guru, so I have no idea about those 3 you posted, but at first glance they look like quality products that could rectify your issue, but my technical opinion might not be the best to go on, as I'm more of the smash it with a hammer until it works or it breaks, then replace it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071P5C6CS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That is the one I bought and currently use. Its cheap, and it doesn't hide that fact. Minimal packaging and a low cost to produce initially made me think twice, but being the knuckle dragging Neanderthal I am, I said fuck it, and bought it. Instantly cured my Rift S of it's problem, and has worked flawlessly for 9 months now.
I need a little more context about how you connect.
Do you connect the usb into a hub or directly into a open port on your motherboard?
IF you do any of these things, this may be causing the issue..
If you have a lot of usb devices connect to either your hub or motherboard, this maybe causing the issue.
The Rift S is a bandwidth and power hog and does not play nicely with other devices... So what I did was buy a Usb 3.0 PCI-E card and installed it into an open slot on my motherboard and only plug in my Rift into that card and only that! This card will supply it with enough power and it will not have to share the bandwidth with any other device.
here is an example:
Also google........ " Oculus Tray Tool " and install this amazing little 3rd party software that works in conjunction with your Rift S and has many settings to play with to help with a better experience with your Rift S..
Try this and see if you can get back to kicking ass in VR !
I have a Lenovo Legion 5 and use an Oculus Rift S with it. The Legion 5 has a USB 3.2 type C with the function of DisplayPort 1.2. I use this DisplayPort to USB C adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K51GM46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Q8KSTYXPDM438BDM8EYC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) and it works great. Have never had an issue playing.
no permanent fix (as far as i know) but you can use a contact cleaning spray from wd40. Spray some into the joystick housing and “massage” it in. This helps me, but i still need to do this method every week or so
Have you tried a powered usb hub? I bought this one and it fixed the problems with my gfs Rift S. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M91R8PN/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_glt_i_15WDK5F91TKYA5JHKM3Y?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Are you on a desktop or laptop?
If you’re on desktop and have a spare PCIE expansion lane, you can buy something like this
USB PCIe Card, 4 Port USB 3.0 to PCI Express Card Expansion card, PCI-E to USB 3.0 4 Port Hub Controller Adapter, Rosewill RC-508 PCI-E to USB 3.0 Add On card https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011LZY20G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S6X1SK3KBW3G85N4SBS0
I would completely recommend playing with "knuckle straps", I bought a pair at the same time as my rift s, as I knew (from previous Wii experience) I'd want to be able to relax my grip without dropping the controller.
I use these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08C3295GR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Picked them up in August 2020 and they've survived a fair bit of use without signs of wear, so would happily recommend the brand.
As a side note, if you're not coming from a background of game controller use, it's likely that your hands/brain just haven't had enough training yet. However, it just comes from practice, so stick with it!
Long story short, I use a different face plate than the one included here, but the Halo cover is fantastic so I'm assuming the face plate cover would be fine too.
I found another solution that worked for me. I purchased a Powered USB Hub by Atollawith 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub with 4 USB 3.0 Data Ports and 1 USB Smart Charging Port. I no longer have any issues with the Display port issue and my Rift S wakes up when I put my headset on.
I also have the ability to turn the 4 3.0 USB ports off when not in use as each one has an individual power button. The price for this was $19.99.
Pro is more expensive and has a higher capacity (mAh). However, the regular last plenty long and you can buy like two 4 packs of the non pro for the price of a pro 4 pack and get much more juice for your cash.
I got the 4 pack non pro with charger included and they work great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JHKSMJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_986.FbHNY3HMT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Crashes do just happen sometimes. Often it'll just be a software issue, but with all the hardware issues people present on here, I figured I'd throw up my copypasta for the power issue as well. Can't hurt to try if the issue persists and updates don't fix it. Best of luck homie.

Weird that it's only happening now, but that's absolutely a recurring theme with technology in my experience. There's never any issue until there is.
Been about a week. Any luck? This is the one most people get afaik, just in case you needed a suggestion.

you cant just use a Thunderbolt C adapter based cable you need a working graphics card and it needs to have a display port connector and the rift s VR headset won't work just with a USB c to USB cable and I suggest buying this cable if you do not have a display port to USB-C cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081H8MPZM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A238Y4P9B8CANA&psc=1
It does support third party adapters but only specific ones though. This one right here will work fine. I read the reviews and i saw a few people saying it does work with the oculus rift s. Oculus mainly says 3rd party adapters will not work as some of them may not work and some will it is just to reduce the amount of work the support team has to do. I hoped this helped you.
If there are no tracking issues you shouldn’t worry. I’ve always been worried about damaging controllers since day one, I recommend you look into some protective controller sleeves like these. I personally use these and they are great.

You can buy a lens cover that keeps the lenses safe from sunlight

or anything like that

Yes its in a 3.0. Initially there was lots of issues with it not finding the usb to connect to but it seems to connect consistently now, at least by that i mean its connected and green lit on the oculus app.

Yes i was looking at that, these kinds of things? Easy enough but looking at my PC It looks like the only available PCI slot is kind of blocked by my hard drive and doesnt look useable. Maybe its fine but are there any other kind of powered usb options other that would work with a rift S other than PCI slots?

No problem with your enlgish at all. Thanks man
Would you say this would be okay? Or solve the issue?

Yes, I use this one (European Amazon) on multiple laptops and it works. However, any adapter should work provided it has enough bandwidth (4k 60fps). The reason adapters aren't working for you is probably because your laptop doesn't support Alt Displayport mode.
Do you see a small D symbol next to your USB C port?
And is your USB C port connected to your Nvidia GPU or your Intel on board GPU? (Check in Nvidia Control Panel)
I bought the recommended one from Oculus off Amazon. Support was ready to send me a new rift but I knew it was a software issue they didn't want to admit. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00B6ZCNGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_m8L8Eb0V3Y4BF

I couldn’t find mine but I got something like this but with 1 port type A and 1 port type C but if you go to micro center or amazon or Best Buy just aim for 3.1 gen 2 has to be gen 2 it’s mostly for the power outage to the vr I tried gen 1 and doesn’t work. or 3.2 usb also works best that’s what I got I ended up just returning the gen 2 and getting the 3.2
And no problem I was where you are and I was alone had to figure it out but it worked for me if you don’t mind like me for karma
I went with AMVR's facial Interface and PU leather pad from Amazon. I'm happy with it, especially as VR Cover still only offers a cotton cover for some unfathomable reason.
Same boat here. All my specs are above minimum, and I have plenty of USB 3.0 ports. They advised that my USB ports were not capable of running the Oculus drivers, that I should buy a PCI-E to USB 3.0 card like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B6ZCNGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_i10kEbRJCGDSC Oculus support actually directly linked me to that on Amazon, should be here tomorrow, I will let you know if it fixes my probs.

Here is an amazon link to an adapter that you should be able to use as long as your laptop has a thunderbolt 3 port if you have any more questions feel free to reply and I will do my best to help!
These headphones and this cable work great. I was able to get the headphones a little cheaper than what's listed now.
