If we only knew!!!! We know that his father was bringing the old god (Aten was around since 5th Dynasty) as we know he name a boat he had built for his wife, The Aten Dazzles and in September, they "refound" a city that that Amenhotep had built (or was part of his mortuary complex) called the "Aten Dazzles". But why close up all the cult centers, take their land, change the art (even having a naked colossi) and move to Amarna!
Some call him a madman. Some call him the first individual.
I was very lucky to have traveled with Barry Kemp and got to go to Amarna with him. After 40 years working at Amarna, he can't answer these questions!
He was 17 years old when he came to throne and he took his father's royal artisan, Men, and had him change the art. In his religious, the Aten only gave life to him, Nefertiti and Queen Tiye. So, everyone had to worship them to be in the good graces with the god. Was he a narcissistic kid with unlimited power?
The very, very best book I have read (I think I have them all) on Akhenaten is Ridley's, Akhenaten: A Historian's View. It has been out a couple of years so maybe your local library has it. It is so good, I did a 2 hour lecture on the book!
There is a paid talk on Akhenaten Friday. Now, I have never heard his person speak or knew he existed so I can't say if it is going to be a good lecture or not. He hasn't been in any of my professional societies but that doesn't mean it might be bad, but I just don't want anyone to waste their money!! I have listened to many egyptologists that I have never heard of before, some great, some made me want to jump off the roof! but I will let you decide (I am still on the fence!). But definitely seek out that book!

There are tons of books on Medinet Habu and I don't know that they are currently working on temple (I will see in January for myself). Most of the very best books are so expensive. Check your library first to see if they have any of these books.
This is the best I can think of at the moment:
Religious Prescriptions:
Favorable day
“Make 'Abet'-offerings to the Gods in the presence of Ra. Make a holiday in your house.” [c.c.]
(extracts from “Egyptian Religious Calendar: CDXXII-CDXXIII Great Year of Ra (2022CE)”.
The book is available on amazon, here's the link:
Thank you for your kind words! I am so glad we found each other!
I don’t think this specific one is in there, but the Metropolitan Museum of Art puts out an excellent kit for making jewelry in the style of ancient Egypt.
