I usually finish mine after polishing to 12000 micromesh with the two-part plastic polish. I find it fills in any remaining scratches.
Then again, when I'm done I go over the whole thing with this. So, uh, I admit that might be overkill.
Do you think it's worth it? I was looking at a WEN on amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/WEN-3421-3-2-Amp-Variable-Benchtop/dp/B07ZG9VTT2/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=wen+lathe&qid=1578508349&sr=8-2
Also looking at the penpal from Penn State Industries.
Any input on this topic would be a big help.
it was too cold for CA so I used the NOVUS 7136 Plastic Polish Kit
I use PSI's Benjamin's Best chisels. They've held up really nice and seem super sturdy. I make mostly pens and they work great for that (wood, acrylic, and resin), but I also make vases and spindles and they get the job done.
If you're going to do acrylics, you might want to pick up a set of sanding pads like these. You can youtube how to do use them, it's not hard just different because they're used wet.

Here you go. I usually use about 8-9 coats. It does rub off with wear either like CA glue.
Thank you! I bought some barbecue gloves off Amazon, but they're not great. My hands still get really hot, so I'm thinking about trying a different kind.
