I used the pinned post mostly and then YouTube! Got floetrol as my pouring medium and an awesome silicon from amazon (this one here , I also got the Liquitex high gloss varnish — I’m going to wait to varnish it in a few weeks when it’s cured. I used craft smart acrylic paint from Michaels. Canvases from Amazon.
What I’ve figured out is that everyone really does it differently re: mixing paint/medium/water. I did a roughly 50/50 paint and floetrol mix, then added water until it was like melted honey. I followed this technique for pouring: https://youtube.com/watch?v=QNmsXQN20xs. I did use a butane torch, but I think it would have worked better if I torched it immediately after pouring and would have had more cells if I used more silicone (I only used 3 drops in one of the colors I used).
Here is a link for the Liquid Wrench on Amazon, but you can also find it at any auto parts store or probably even Walmart.. my husband already had a can on hand. I de-canned it into a small mister/spritzer bottle first...

For the Rainx, it's just the original Rainx in the yellow bottle, which I also transferred into a small mister/spritzer.

I put 1 spray of the LW into the black paint & swirled lightly before pouring... I was not impressed by the cells so I sprayed 1 spray of RX. I was experimenting so I'm not sure if the LW contributed to the cell formation or if it was mostly the RX.

I did not use any silicone in any of the other colors I poured.

I might video the next one, idk.. seems a liiiiiittle pretentious (since I basically know zero about this) lol but at least then I'll be able to remember what I did!!!
Oy oy o...wait...no, I'm not an Aussie...lol..
As Dennis Leary would say, "I'm just a regular Joe with a regular job
I'm your average white, suburbanite slob..."
As for the AU Stuff, I just spent too much money on the stuff...lol It does work well, creates a unique type of cell.
And I just added one of these to my cart....Filter as I pour from jug to cup, but it will like be a much slower pour...might just filter into a larger cup once and the pour from there as needed...
This is 1/32 thick, and will come on a roll, but can be made flat easily...cut and let sit in sunlight for a bit.
I bought a few different blow dryers at Goodwill and use them with a variable fan speed controller like this.
The 'cool air' button on a blow dryer is typically an on/off switch (as opposed to a momentary switch) connected to a spring. If you are comfortable taking apart cheap electronics, you can set the heat on your blow dryer to off and never worry about having to hold the button.
99% of the time my pour mix consists of just white glue, paint, and water! Depending on how thick/thin each cup of paint ends up, you get cells. Every blue moon I do use a couple drops of this, but if the consistency of the paint is too thin, I've found that it does more damage than good.
I have this set. I LOVE it! It's nice and heavy and spins very smooth. I recommend it to everyone!
I don't usually do anything special to hold them on to the base. MOST of the time, they stay in place. Occasionally I get a little spin happy and fling one off, but it hasn't happened enough to need to find a solution. You could probably add on a silicone mat to help keep it in place better if you find the need though.
It's a bit pricey as far as cake spinners go, but I use and recommend this one. It's got a nice weight to it and spins like a dream.
Thanks!
I like the way the changing direction shifts the cells around. There are usually areas of... wavy type cells that appear that I think are pretty neat.
I love my cake spinner! I had one of the silicone mat ones that has edges, like what someone would use in a cabinet. That one worked for a while, but the lip prevents you from doing larger canvases. This is the one I have. I recommend it to EVERYONE that tells me they are thinking about getting one. I've done plenty of tiles on mine. With no lip, you do have to be a bit more careful with the spins. I've thrown plenty of canvases off by getting a little over eager.
I ended up buying this rechargeable milk frother and using the simple hook attachment. It did a good job mixing the paint, floetrol and water, but I did get some bubbles. Next time I'll plan ahead on the paint mixing to give plenty of time for them to dissipate.
I bought this (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08VN54PTJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 ) to do all my pours and spinning and everything messy in. I have it on a card table in my living room. All easy to put away. I use a torch more than a heat gun (which I feel just bakes the top of my paint no matter how far away I keep it), but I wonder why I use the torch when I do use it. 😂
I purchased something like this, but the racks were too close together even for thinner canvases, so I took every other one off and attached them to the wall. That wall is simply framed up with two by fours and a sheet of plywood on that side, it’s bare on the other side, so easy enough for me to punch holes in the wall and screw the nuts on from the other side.
They are called Stack Racks, and they are awesome. I actually found them because I do home renovations as my primary income, and those are used for painting projects there. In my studio I attach 2x2s to them to create the racks. They are a little pricey, but if you put them in your Amazon cart and leave them there for a while I find every couple of months they go down in price by 30% or so for a couple of days at a time.
So, I actually use powder for my glow in the dark paintings. Lit is my favorite, I have it in all of the colors. There is one on amazon you can find by a company called Art n Glow that is really good too. I typically mix it into gel medium, basically make your own glow paint, then into pouring medium.
I was on Amazon, drooling at pour paint accessories that I don’t need but think I do and spotted these things, the cost was more than I was willing to pay tho , and Irelized I had the metal thingies in the tool box that I drag around but never use and had my biggest AH moment in a long time..
to spendy for me but the idea got me to thinking about “ handles”
For opacity, you can look at the symbols on the containers, or a chart online.
Here’s an example:
Alizarin crimson looks like semi opaque. (See the box that is half way filled in)
Compare that to titanium white with the solid box.
Fluorescent blue is transparent with an outlined box.
Other paint makers use the same code.
Apologies, I didn't realize you'd already answered this till after I'd posted. If you're using a BBQ lighter, I don't think that will be strong enough. Try something like this, & you might find that you're getting better results. 🙂 Sondiko Butane Torch, Refillable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L8YPYQK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Here's the link to the strainers I bought from Amazon. I used the green one. Acrylic Pouring Strainers, Angela&Alex 5 PCS Flow Painting Tools Christmas DIY Kits Drawing Sets Flower Strainers Plastic Silicone Drain Basket Unique Pattern Train Art Supplies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PXS6LF9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_NRSNACVDFSXVFDYR64ZX
I use this tiny potter's wheel: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HLVC6WF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_VT4S8ZQT5JSC7RB1N2AS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Using very strong adhesives, I attached the base to a sturdy table. Then on the top i attached a very stong large round magnet. The magnet allows me to switch out cheap nonstick pizza pans.
This thing spins smoother and better than any lazy susan I have ever used plus its motorized so I can have a continuous spin if needed.
Thank you so much for watching! I really do appreciate it! Here is an Amazon link to the one I am using.
I loooovveee watching paint mix!
The tool I am using is this. It is usually used on those little Testors' bottles of paint, but it works PERFECT for the 2 oz cups I usually mix in.
The pearl powder, I'm not 100% sure it actually has a brand? I have had it for like 6 years, but I am fairly sure it is just the one from Hobby Lobby in the aisle with the soap and clay. This one isn't the Pearl-Ex brand, but those are great too and I use them all the time.
Typically when I mix the mica powders, I am doing them in pours, so I will just mix it in a bit of the pouring medium to get clumps out then add any paint color. If you want to use mica to make a paint that you use brushes with , yeah, I would mix it with an acrylic medium (gel medium for thicker paints, liquid medium for thinner). If you are mixing the mica with an already existing acrylic paint, the binder in it will be enough.
I actually did a mica and interference mixing series on my channel if you are interested! Here is the playlist for it!
I love the colors! It looks like maybe your canvas wasn't level which led to spilling of the top right corner. I got one of these circular bubble levels to check the canvas before I pour and it has been very useful! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KBG2ZNL/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_GC0AGNW28RSVTSY21S7N
Thank you! They are mini parfait cups! You can find them here. These are much better!
Since I saw the crafts post first, figured I would post here too
Favorite: Culture Hustle Lit Powder
Also good: Art N Glow
Both mix well, but Lit is ground finer and disperses a bit better.
Thank you! I mix a LOT of colors, so sometimes the combos get weird 😁
I honestly can't recommend this cake stand enough! I think at least two other people on this sub have this one! It's heavy and spins super smooth.
Here's the stuff I used for the tile top. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006ZLQ0JI
It's good you use a respirator. I didn't have one when I did the few coaster sets but I decided after that not to use resin anymore. I already have reactions to things easily so better safe than sorry.
Mine worked out for the first day, then it started going to crap check out this one a couple of us have it and it works very well and the spin is smooth.
sure! i usually use Arteza acrylic paint with Floetrol . usually around 1 part paint to 7-10 parts floetrol(mostly just till i like the color and it 'feels' right). then I'll add a few silicone drops to whatever color(s) i want to make cells with.
a lazy susan helps to get larger cells without that 'stretchy' look too, if your looking for that.
I bought a pizza rack after finding that the drying racks my middle school art teacher had are like a bazillion bucks. I keep it in a closet to be safe from cats and dust. Fair warning, the slots are not super wide, so your pieces can't be too tall and you have to be careful sliding them into place.
The only bad thing is that it doesn’t come with a dryer head. So you have to buy a mini one
I use this one. It's kinda pricey, but it's got a great weight, it's metal, and it doesn't have sides so it holds a lots of different sizes.
I know it is pricey for a cake spinner, but I LOVE mine. It's nice and heavy plus it doesn't have the lip that a lot of them do. If you don't mind spending a little more, I highly recommend it
Glow in the dark powders need to be charged with light. I've found that holding them under a real black light for a minute or so will give a crazy vibrant glow when the black light is turned off and the room is dark. I've also found that charging with a black light makes the glow last longer in the dark. Of course the black light itself will give them a glow. Some glow in the dark powders will look different under a blacklight vs their dark glow. I personally have had amazing luck with these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K081N5W/ but they are really pricey for what you get. I use them for my nails with gel/acrylic/dip powders and they are fantastic. Purple is the only color I've had issues with, and I've tried several brands. Hope this helps! Beautiful work!
It’s a self-laminating sheet from Amazon! It’s a good weight, not too light. It’s natural weight does great for swiping. Just set it on top and drag. I’m actually going to do an experiment seeing if I get cool results adding pressure to the swipe vs just resting and swiping. Here they are on Amazon!
Amazon link to the ones I use. They are 4x4 and the glue is actually really good. I'm halfway through my second batch of these.
Stak Rack On sale now. I’m not an afíliate just like to share a good product. Attach 2x2s and stack them, very simple and versatile.
I really like these small squeeze bottles with lids for mixing up smaller amounts of paint.

I get super thin plastic drop cloths at the dollar store.
Thanks! FYI, you can cut off a plastic soda bottle bottom to get the same thing….BUT this similar product is a cool variant: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KZNLDN1/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0
If anyone is interested in their own.
The 11 x 14 canvases don't fit unless you turn them, or put a piece of cardboard under the canvas so the shelf doesn't touch the backside of the canvas.
it is a mini blower. I got mine over a year ago. This is the same brand. Looks like they have different packaging. See link below.

Thanks to another users’ suggestion, I’m using Polycryllic with a synthetic brush. This stuff is awesome! I actually tried two other types of spray gloss (Krylon Crystal Clear and Krylon Archival Spray) on other paintings, but they weren’t as glossy or shiny or thick as this stuff. Plus, it was fun to apply!

I feel ya! I was pretty frustrated a couple days ago! Definitely a learning curve! I use this hair dryer! It’s a travel size which I think is a lot easier to use because it’s smaller! You can get this at michaels too, it’s cheaper with a coupon!
Nope, when adding color to resin you have to use resin pigments - you mix your resin up, then add a few drops of pigment to it, mix it up again and then pour it on. In this case, I poured a layer of clear resin over the entire painting, then I had another cup of resin with white pigment in it that I poured over in streaks and got it to morph and mix in with the clear resin by using a heat gun.
Here's the link to the resin pigment I used.
check out this post/experiment someone did
If you don’t want to watch through the entire video, spoiler alert!, the one in the middle (this one won.
I found this one on Amazon for $12.99 whenever you have the extra cash. A hairdryer isn't mandatory, you can get similar results using a straw and your lungs, it's just a little more work!
Here’s a nice one on Amazon :)

I’m glad it’s staying shiny! I buy my resin on amazon: Clear Casting and Coating Epoxy Resin - 16 Ounce Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BM9LHRB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_qqqmCoR7iGUkh
It’s an easy 1:1 mixture, the hardest part is keeping hair/animals/fingers away from it while it cures!
What kind of UV paint are you using? I have this in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. Do you think that would work?
