I’ve had good luck with the Spenco RX Comfort thin insoles.

These are great. They are the only ones I use.
You can usually find some for the same price or cheaper at department stores, men's clothing stores, even The Container Store sells shoe trees. Just make sure they are cedar.
You don't need boot trees, regular shoe trees are fine.
Unpopular opinion. I own TOFL (amazon leather brand), piscah, bunch of other $15 leather ones and I always fall back to the yellow taslan RW laces.
They might not you upvotes but they last a long time and stay tied all day, even with a single knot.
I use these in my 8112 and they've held up for over a year ago without any feet smell. Low profile and doesn't really impact the fitting.
I use gold label saddle soap. It’s really strong and will also strip the old oils from the leather too (you may need a few good scrubs and some elbow grease. As it takes you back to the base, you will need a good oil to pop back on. I used RW mink oil paste on my CRT’s after a deep deep clean and they came up a treat!

Time to invest in one of these bad boys
They look great! I have the charcoal r+t and love them.
I recommend grabbing a pair of leather laces. Amazon has 15 different colors for only $9.99

Guarded Goods has a good reputation, but the black leather is out-of-stock at the moment. I put myself on the email list to be attested when they are back in stock.
TOFL on Amazon gets recommended a fair amount too.

Stratton Boss Cedar Boot Tree For Men - Aromatic Red Cedar
They also make a version for shoes (it doesn’t have the tall part that fills in the shaft) that would probably be ok, and is cheaper.
I took out the Red Wing insoles from my 1907s and put in a pair of superfeet insoles and they fit significantly better. My toes no longer feel crushed from the top.
This is pretty cheap and still sturdy enough for all my boots. You can easily fit two pairs per shelf (three if needed but you’ll need to store them a certain way).
Im not sure if this was it. you can search around.
These are the ones I use and am happy with. Whichever ones you get they gotta be cedar and should have a split toe. Other things to look for are a good built in handle and a rounded heel area. And these cover all that. https://www.amazon.com/STRATTON-MENS-ADJUSTABLE-SPLIT-CEDAR/dp/B082MSC7NG
I’ve recommended these a few times on previous posts...
Spenco Rx Comfort Thin Lightweight Cushioning Insole
I put them in all my 8 last boots.
I just got the moc toe (1sts from Amazon) and same issue.

I endded up buying these and putting in inside. Totally fixed the heel slippage for good. I've had this for a week ago so looks like the glue is pretty strong. This is now as comfortable as my Thorogood Dodgevilles which has insole.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072K43N8K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1
I bought them on December 15! The price has changed. Just keep looking back on Amazon! Also here are the 1907 only size 9.5 for $119!
These are golden taslan laces from my other Red Wing boots. I didn't really like the stock ones so I switched them out. Here they are on Amazon.
This is another option I use for the tougher to clean soles. This is usually my last resort before I break out the sandpaper.
I use this spray on my red wing shoes (2036 & 83116) that are not waterproof and it does good work. Follow the directions and it won’t leave any spots. I unintentionally tested the spray 24hr after dry time and my shoes look just fine
I’m speaking of those types of shoe trees. In my experience the have the potential to deform the heel of your shoes by applying too much force on a too small area.
Looks like I'm a pronator. So I'm assuming these are the insoles you meant? I'm assuming they'd fit the bill to be somewhat thick, yeah? I currently have the Red Wing brand insoles already in the boots, but they're incredibly thin.
You can get the pink miraclesoap they sell on Amazon or at your local mall. It will brighten up the white soles and remove all kinds of stains. I bought it to clean my 7yo’s sneakers and a tiny bit could help clean a dozen of sneakers. My 7yo’s sneaker were super dirty and I tried just using regular laundry detergent but it did not help at all. The pink miracle stuff is the bomb.
Get yourself a good horse hair brush and some form of conditioner and cleaner. Eventually you'll need some polish too but you've got time.
Youtube how to care for them. Won't take long to learn.
Good luck brother, and enjoy.
Damn that’s tough since it’s navy portage, there is an ask a cobbler Reddit community. However if it’s not all the way through take super fine sand paper to the area and apply navy blue boot dye: https://www.amazon.com/Fiebings-Navy-Blue-Leather-Dye/dp/B00AN7DC7I/ref=asc_df_B00AN7DC7I/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312190122371&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16139624923319229572&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1021729&hvtargid=pla-645662581184&psc=1 If it’s all the way through hope cobbler can stitch together with navy blue thread or see if S.B. Foot Tannery has navy portage scraps for a patch.
I got a kit off Amazon. Comes with the speed hooks, the washer for the back, the anvil, and the rod.
PH PandaHall 20 Sets Boot Lace... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FX32J4G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They are not Red Wing shoe trees. I've heard red wing uses woodlore shoe trees, which I do coincidentally own a pair of boots trees from them. Links below for both. You can't go wrong with either, my regular shoe trees are all Woodlore, while 3/4 of my boot shoe trees are Stratton. I like the aesthetic of Stratton shoe trees more, but I have had zero issues with Woodlore and highly recommend them as well.
Woodlore: https://www.woodlore.com/shoe-trees-inserts/mens-cedar-shoe-trees/the-boss-boot-tree/
Use a thin insole. Spenco has this thin insole, maybe 1/8” thick. Just takes out enough volume.
I use Fiebings Neatsfoot oil on my 8883's and 1907's. Penetrates much better than the Red Wing leather cream, and has absolutely no effect on color/shading after drying.
It's honestly the best overall for the R&T leathers.
Currently wearing a pair of These abominations. I did put some thin insoles in them, but they are not squishy at all. barely a quarter inch of material between my foot and the floor.
They're still more comfortable than my red wings were after two months of break in.
But I once again need boots. So I'm trying to gain as much information as I can before I make another poor decision.
Second this.
For me, Iron Ranger in 10 EE are optimal. I have some 10.5 D that do great with the Spenco flat insoles. I have ONE pair of 10D's that were brutal to break-in with double layer heavy wool socks and minor walking around the house. Now they are pretty well-fitting with thinner socks. My 10 EE's are the best fit for me, though.
u/frontyer0077 - try the Spenco flat insoles on Amazon. Should help soak up some of that extra space. If you still need a bit more, thicker socks can make a big difference. These Dickies wool-blend are pretty thick and should help.
Good price, though. That's about the going rate for factory seconds, so if they are new with warranty, you did well!
This shit works better than Red Wing's stuff. It will make your boot darker though.
Buck 4 isn’t the greatest moisturizer after saddle soap. Maybe as an maintenance conditioner but not a replacement of the oils after saddle soap. I would use oils after saddle soap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JNCKQXJ?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image this stuff works great
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JNCKQXJ?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image

You’re most likely going to be surprised what color the cream turns out to be. If it’s off it’s not too big of a deal. But I would stick to white myself
In my experience, this cleaner is pretty light (may not be good for mud etc but great for a general cleaning) but smells great and doesn't saturate or darken the leather:
And this is one of the few conditioners that doesn't darken oiled leathers. I've tried saphir's greasy leather but found it darkened my natural chromexcel wallet, this is pretty neutral in my experience https://sonofastag.com/products/red-wing-97095-leather-cream-neatsfoot-oil
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JNCKQXJ?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image These are both for oil leathers. Not many can say they are designed for oil leathers. Two best products I think. Just make sure it’s for oil leather on the jar one
https://www.amazon.com/Neutral-Saphir-Medaille-dOr-Leather/dp/B08JNCKQXJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?adgrpid=129256938388&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvZCZBhCiARIsAPXbajuUxPjPfnvKTKPyLGjvYWtLSDFP1hu3MGFOUihQNdYaiqoNxE-FKicaAg0-EALw_wcB&hvadid=513557159511&hvdev=m... the bottom one is the better one. They recommend using this one over renevateur, oiled leather likes certain products and not others
I got the longer ones and was able to cut them in half and get 4 laces.
You can try this, but I would use painters tape without experience. https://www.amazon.com/Saphir-Renovating-Cream-Medium-Brown/dp/B002A94UU0/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=5V7UO7IVWXPQ&keywords=saphir+renovateur+black&qid=1662770011&sprefix=saphir+renovateur+blac%2Caps%2C379&sr=8-5
I have found the best conditioner for CRT to be Saphir Medialle D'Or for Oiled leather in Nuetral. It restored a pair back to factory color without over saturating them or changing the texture. They all natural materials but the way they process their wax is different from the rest of the industry. I have tried countless other products.

This stuff is the real deal.
I think there are hundreds of ways to disinfect inside of the boots, and nobody knows for sure what is the best way. Do what feels right to you :)
I like to use a bit of 100% isopropyl alcolol mixed 50/50 with water in a small spray bottle reused from 'rite-aid nasal salt spray' - it atomizes VERY finely and is almost more like delivering mist of isopropyl alcohol than spraying it on the surface. I like to use it periodically. Keep in mind that (a) paradoxically 50/50 solution is MUCH more effective as disinfectant than 100% isopropyl alcolol and (b) too much of isopropyl alcohol will destroy glue keeping lining in place.
I also used HOCl Hypochlorous Spray, it seems to be good disinfectant and does not leave any smell of its own. It is a much heavier/wetter spray (it its original bottle at least), but seems to be fine for occasional use. https://www.amazon.com/BRIOTECH-Sanitizer-Disinfectant-Non-Living-Hypochlorous/dp/B09BQ6VCTG
If you have Lysol in the house it should be fine as well as long as you can tolerate its residual smell.
Bowling alleys use a spray like Mycomist, or you can mix water with isopropyl alcohol 30/70.
https://www.amazon.com/110-1-Mycomist-Bottle-Gordon-Laboratories/dp/B00F4JM7EY
I second this! I too have the 875 (7.5D) same size as my IRs. Definitely tight and narrow at the toe box at point of causing blisters, but thought that it would disappear during break-in but wore it less (I was tossed with wanting to keep the color or patina it with scratches haha). However, I cheated a bit and used a boot stretcher to loosen the toe box and it worked! It's comfy and I wear it a lot!
i'm size US 8-8.5E on Brannock Scale.
This is the best polish for oil tanned Red Wings:
None of the cream polishes attach very well. As you mentioned, neutrals have problems.
Don’t be so rough? But seriously you can try this stuff for a repair. https://www.amazon.com/Saphir-Renovating-Cream-Tube-Brown/dp/B002A980RY/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=1REYTR9I6AP01&keywords=saphir+filler&qid=1660335795&sprefix=saphir+fille%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-5
This is pretty close, better than what they used in the Middle Ages for leather

I like the split toe shoe trees. They hug your boots better. I just got these and so far they work great.
Speaking about good brushes… this one is the best I have ever encountered, by far.
Valentino Garemi Luxury Leather... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078X56G6B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Yeah, kinda pricey for a brush, and you are probably asking yourself “could it be that much better than any other brush?” Yea, it can, and it is. I’ve gone through 6 or 7 different types of brushes, including Red Wing’s own. This thing destroys them all. Perfect size. Incredibly soft and fine two toned horsehairs. Finger groove on the sides for grip. Doesn’t lose any hairs. Works twice as fast as others.
If anyone is looking for a good brush, get this. It’s Amazon so if you end up not liking it just return it. You won’t though.
So I just REALLY brush them extensively after each use. A horsehair brush is a horsehair brush right? That’s what I thought, but I actually found a brush that seems to be in a league of its own and is much nicer than others. I got it off Amazon.

I was going to suggest Bick4 but considering how dry these look, it might not be enough. When I conditioned my dad's boots that were all cracked from 4 years of negligence I used Saphir and it worked really well. Did 2 applications of it and it brought the leather back to life with incredible patina.
Awesome, that’s exactly what I was hoping for! There really isn’t any give on the waxed cotton laces they come with.
What you’re likely feeling is probably lace bite and it’s probably due to a sensitive instep. This is why I’m partial to pull on boots vs lace ups.
Try these. I put them in all my lace up boots that do not have a padded tongue.

If you’re looking for low volume insoles, I’ve had great luck w/ these in my IRs… before I realized they were a little too big and downsized. Free returns if they only work out.
Dude, don’t buy those. They are overpriced. Go on Amazon and order Shelton Boot Trees. They are actually nicer and less expensive ($30 less). $80 for boot trees is ridiculous. Here
Yeah I really like them and they were cheap too. They are out of this set I got of of amazon.
Just a nice early spring day here in Canada. Thought I would get some of the trees out of teh ground earlier this week and then freezing rain warning so the is was after putting them all back out from that. For those that ask the laces are just from this set I got off of amazon.
I was more referring for that for mud, salt, and truly dirty boots.
I wear RW 606’s for work and they get dirty. I don’t condition or clean them that much. Mostly brush them off. But when it comes time to clean them I want to have the stuff needed.
Is this what you’re referring too?

These look like blacksmiths and I would get them resoled. Those are the same soles iron rangers come with and are straight garage. Zero traction.
I had my iron rangers resoled with vibram Olympias and they're legit. They look like a heavy lug when you look down at them, but they offer better stability and versatility. I'm in the NE USA and I have 100% confidence in every step I take. The cobbler who did mine said that sole is the favorite of truckers who drive in icy areas.
The best traction device is K1 Mid-Sole Ice Cleats by Geroline. They work great and you don't look like a doofus wearing them. You can also easily flip them on and off when you go inside/outside. I used to work in the Petroleum industry and these are the ice cleats the refinery's would supply us with.

Ahhh that makes sense as to why it feels hard like a veg tanned leather. At this point I’m not sure why I would even want to condition them? I won’t be wearing them for hard work and they’ll mainly be my office/home/ maybe feeding some goats or walking some of our berry fields. But that’s about it.
I will look into the balm.

These guys. I ended up swapping them out for a pair of, whatcha call'ems, the normal laces that come with Iron Rangers, because the leather laces make the boot fit my foot weird for whatever reason.

These come in a few different arch support levels. The blue ones are for average arches. I think if you needed more arch support that you'd already know that from your other shoes.

I have used these.. they seem to work, and I prefer the hook other than a brass knob on the heel to get them out
Since I shit all over the yak trak style ones that slip over the whole boot, I’ve seen some of these at work and they actually work fairly well and are easier to put on/store.

These are the full size that I use with my Dr Martens, they're thin and don't take up much room. They have different options of arch support, etc:
They also have a 3/4 version that is thin and narrow, I use those for my Iron Rangers:

I just bought these like 2 weeks ago. 6 pairs for $86
My sister in-law is breaking in her moc toes (I think 3375s) and she just got some Silicone Heel Protectors and said they made a world of a difference.
She tried the two sock method and that did not work for her but she was able to wear her boots with the protectors on no problem.
I really like these. Got em on my Beckmans. I couldn't stand the flat laces.

How old are they? The tops of my feet are pretty bony and I always go through a period of a week or so where I get these “bites” you describe. Once the tongue leather softens up, it goes away. Naturally, finding someone well versed at it is nice, but it is very easy to do yourself if you're willing. I live in Colorado and wear Moc toes or Iron Rangers 6-7 months out of the year. When there’s light, dry snow on the ground my RWs are fine. If the snow stays overnight or there’s any ice, I wear a pair of North Face boots. I have a mode called the Chilkat and this will be my third winter with them. They’re warm, traction is great, and although they’re not built to last years like my heritage Red Wings, if they make through this third winter I will consider it money well spent. You definitely don’t need ‘boot’ trees, shoe trees work just fine. Whichever ones you get make sure they’re cedar because they will absorb any moisture and make your boots smell fresh. Also look for the split toe because it will self adjust to whatever width it needs and get the rounded heel type.

Since they don't go all the way into the toe box they don't make the shoes noticeably tighter. I've had flat feet since I was 11 years old, and for several years I was using custom orthotics. I've had a good experience with these 3/4 length insoles though.
I actually use these in my boots. I like them because the heel is rounded and the little knob makes taking them out easy
