I'm with you. Having said that, I do think the movie gives a lot of opportunity for mental chewing & analysis. Saw Something Scary's episode reviewing Hereditary is really good if you want to listen:
One of the hosts just did a link-dump of thought-provoking stuff about the movie in their sub if you are interested as well.
I have loved all of the Conjuring movies (save for Annabelle, which I thought was ok till the last 1/5) and I wish I hadn't watched The Nun - not just in theater but at all. Easily the worst of the franchise for me & it isn't particularly close. I'd stay away.
If you're interested, Saw Something Scary's review (starts about 18:44) was right in line with my thoughts.
There have been many past threads in the past. You might want to specify what kind of horror you like. Some people hate slasher or torture films, for example, or have a preference for slow, creepy movies with small casts, or those whose plot plays out in one room, etc. Saw ain't the Babadook.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon . Highly reccomend... You got some good movies on that watchlist, The Fly, Jacobs Ladder, Scanners, Videodrome good stuff.
Heres my Trakt TV list. Im sure you will find something you will like.

On my show Contra Zoom Pod, we talk all things movies. This episode is a recurring feature called Make/Remake where we compare and contrast an original film and a later remake. In this edition we look at James Whale's 1933 film The Invisible Man and Leigh Whannell's remake from this year.
How do you think the two versions stack up?
I checked Just Watch:

Looks like it’s only available for purchase on Vudu. Pretty cheap though.
(They did a fantastic job adapting this, btw. Unlike The Shining mini-series they did a few years later.)

Saw Something Scary did back to back episodes on the miniseries and the new movie. I remember at the time thinking they were good listens. https://tunein.com/podcasts/Media--Entertainment-Podcasts/Saw-Something-Scary-p964303/?topicId=116597985
