Comply TrueGrip Pro Foam Tips are great — you squish them up and they expand from the body heat to take the exact shape of your ear canal. Had no issues with fit or sound isolation ever since.
I’ve purchased these, but they are unavailable now, look for other offers from COMPLY. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081QSLTW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PDXRXGD2CDE7R22XHKWM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm thinking of buying one too. According to MKBHD, they are fairly comfortable. Also it would be nice to get them now cause they are on discount. They used to be $349.99 and now they are $278. Such a nice deal for a good quality headphone.
Best Buy is the only retailer that sells the Blue color.

I had a similar problem with my XM4's and spinfit CP360's fixed this issue for me.
I'm in Canada though, Amazon.ca had lots of stock last I checked. Quickly looking over Amazon.com it appears they've only got small right now:
The mic is not very good at all tbh. However you could buy a 3.5mm cable with an inline boom mic to greatly improve the quality. The only drawback is having to use them wired.
I use this one. There's also the "V-Moda Boom Pro" which is a bit more expensive. I tried the v-moda first but had to send it back as it was faulty.
It is actually Wavelet. I will do better and give you the link ;)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pittvandewitt.wavelet&hl=en&gl=US
I have a little in-line USB meter that shows the direction of power flow and voltage/current. Super-useful with USB-C because a) some devices (eg battery packs) can both source and sink power through the same connector and b) it makes a heck of a difference to charge times if laptop/phone can negotiate a higher voltage so it's handy to know what device works well with what charger.
Here's a pic https://imgur.com/8VNkC1X - note that that's plugged into the charger that came with my phone and which does 5v at up to 3A and 9v at up to 2A but is only sending the headphones 5v because that's all the headphones will take. It's only showing 0.06A because I charged the headphones last night (when I did the testing!) & haven't used them today.
I've also got a Belkin kill-a-watt thing that connects on the 110v side that I can use to see a) which chargers have a lot of vampire current (ie draw current even when there are no devices connected) and b) confirm the readings I'm seeing on the USB side of things.
The Belkin is this https://www.amazon.ca/Belkin-F7C005Q-Conserve-Insight-Monitor/dp/B003WV5DBU which isn't available any more. There are others available but the ones that have the display mounted onto the socket as a single block are kinda inconvenient for cramped spaces or trying to read the display. Some smart plugs will also report current/power to their controlling app so I think I'd go with one of those if I wanted to replace this.

Happy this post was able to offer some insight! It's hard to say if the performance is good as a new pair of XM4's, but it's definitely a huge step above a failing battery, or even the other bud's degrading battery.
The one I bought was directly from amazon (I believe is A3 but you may need to double check): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0975WF9MD/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
In terms of water proofing, it think that all comes down to the sealant that you use and how you apply it. I ended up using some contact adhesive, but I think I've come to terms that the buds are likely not very waterproof anymore.
I ended up using this glue to re-seal it and it worked pretty well. The tube came with a fine point applicator that made it easy to place onto the original seal without any overflow. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09B63HS12
I've been using these to protect them from sweat...
If you want to have the convience of wireless headphones and have the ldac on pc i recommend getting fiio bta30pro alongside the xm5 https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Transmitter-Bluetooth-Amplifier-Resolution/dp/B09J48ZPD4
Get these:
Hifiman HE-R7DX JM Edition @ $254 - https://www.jmaudioeditions.com/product-page/r7-jm-enhanced-arya-style-headband-ocd-extreme-stealth-edition
And you can use the remaining budget to get s small portable Amp DAC system like the iFi hip DAC (https://www.amazon.com/iFi-Hip-dac-Portable-Headphone-Balanced/dp/B0842W67F1#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div)
Earpads are available for replacement, however I have no idea about ANC reduction or change in the sound profile.

For the headband, use this as an easy fix.

I went ahead and replaced the battery in my right earbud today. I used one of these: Varta CP1254 A3 which is the same form factor and the battery used in the WF-1000XM3. It is slightly lower capacity but seemed to be the only option available to me here in the US.
The replacement was not too difficult once I figured out how much heat was needed to get the earbud to open. Set my hot air rework station to 175 deg F and gradually heated the earbud along the seam until I could pry it open. Once open, I carefully removed the old battery / adhesive and put in the new one. Closed the earbud back up and then reheated to get the adhesive to soften to re-bond the two halves.
The earbud charged right back up and is behaving like new. I am optimistic that these can be given new life and will do the left one if it starts to misbehave.
Lots of replacement parts out there. Personally I only have Dekoni replacement cups from suede/velvet. Also bought some stuff for my BeatsPro and Sony like this and made it much more comfortable. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0926Z4GFV/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=3BD17JX9ULXZ&keywords=Ersatz-Kopfband-Abdeckung+sony+WH-1000XM4&qid=1663957778&sprefix=ersatz-kopfband-abdeckung+sony+wh-1000xm4+%2Caps%2C75&sr=8-5
I bought these ones. Only because nowhere I went to sold the tips from the XM3s and XM4s.
okay thanks a lot, i currently use the smallest eartips provided by the linkbuds s, so i might order the SS (extra small right?) after i run out of the memory foam ones i just ordered

I use my WH-1000XM$s for gaming all the time but as others have noted the built-in mic does not work when in wired mode. I grabbed this and love it. One issue, however, is that the noise cancelling is so good on the headphones a bomb could go off in my house while gaming and I would never know.
Yeah I was going to return these headphones until I got these tips. Dramatic change in comfort.

Don't bother using the mic for calls/discord etc. Get your hands on a wireless lavalier mic and set that as your default microphone in windows. I have tested a few. A lot of them show up as headsets with separate auido/mic. Just choose the mic in the sound settings in windows and set your headset as the xm1000. This is the one I'm using, but there are cheaper alternatives. This way you can get the full stereo quality from the headphones, and use a separate mic for games/meetings/etc. I chose this over the modmic wireless because I didn't want the magnet attached to the right earcup, this comes with a case that charges the mic, and its usb C.
Thanks for your input! I ordered this one:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07J58KY3X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hope it works. Will report after I try it out!
Wow, thanks for making me look and see they have already dropped $22 since I pre- ordered. Oh well.
I am very happy with mine. I have them paired with an Xperia 10ii and the Sony headphone app, which has an equalizer. Nothing says Mega Base but they definitely bump. The app lets you choose what apps to enhance.
There is no noise when the music is off. What do you have yours paired to? Does it have a BT5 chip?
Have you tried changing the tips to the smaller ones in the box? That made a difference with my comfort.
Sony Headphones Connect in the Play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sony.songpal.mdr&hl=en
The other thing you can do is, get a plug and play Bluetooth adapter designed for phone call use... it supports the same codecs as the mobile phone chips do. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Avantree-Bluetooth-Computer-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B088LNPXNN/ref=asc\_df\_B088LNPXNN/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=463108729165&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12009471453258082854&hvpone=&hvpt...
I haven't experienced the dust issue yet..but you can get few good silicon tips like AZLA or Spinfit..for me I don't use the Sony tips they are hybrid of silicon outside foam inside ..I use a random foam tip from Amazon which fits me better and softer..
Some Amazon reviewers said what you said: That the 700N version was better.
I had decided to order the 510N model and try them both, but it turns out that, because they touch your body (and Covid), I can't return either pair unless I don't even open the box. Also, it looks like the JLab Studio Pro that u/wijnandsj recommended would be a better choice for me. So I think I'm going to end up keeping the 710N ones unless I really don't like them for some reason and hope Amazon will let me return them anyway, but I am checking further into the JLab ones.
In case someone else needs headphones but can't afford them, I recommend a low-end pair that I use just for listening to Zoom meetings or podcasts on my computer if I have trouble hearing: MDR-ZX110. They're wired, and there's padding on the headband part, plus they're on-ear, although way better than really cheap ones. Good padding around the hearing to keep them on and prevent sound leak. so comparable except not great sound quality. They're so inexpensive and so good for simple uses that I almost ordered a second pair in case they aren't available anymore.
jlab studio pro
I have the Comply foam tips. They come in one size and are more comfortable than the stock ones.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 are quite poor sounding when used wired with power off. In order to get good sound out of them you will need to use some form of equalization. Adding a DAC alone will not help.
For very detailed exploration of this situation, as well as a suggested Equalization curve, see the Audio Science Review of the Sony WH-1000XM4
I don't listen to my XM4s wired, but I have had good luck using the Android Wavelet app with Emir's suggested power-on profile. It wouldn't be too hard to create a power-off EQ for Wavelet, but I don't know if anyone has done so already or not.
I'm using this https://www.amazon.de/-/en/PCE-AX58BT-Asus-PCIe-Card/dp/B07VWXKHTY
I had 0 latency issues while watching movies. But can't quite recommend xm4s for gaming. The cups get sweaty - at least for me.
The sound quality for the wh-1000xm3 is truly subpar like what most reviews say and I 100% have no regrets buying it. However the call quality is just plain bad and is the only disadvantage. It doesn't concern me but is a deal-breaker for some. However, I strongly do suggest buying it, you will not regret it, trust me If mic quality is really important to you, buy this accessory. Antlion Audio ModMic Wireless Attachable. https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-Attachable-Microphone-Headphones/dp/B07KQF165L
Awesome thanks. There’s a slightly cheaper one that a couple people with WH1000’s really like.
I was considering it because someone on the Vmoda reviews said their cable wasn’t properly seated all the way inside the headphone, does yours sit snug?
Yeah too bad about noise cancelling. Got these XM4’s new- open box couple weeks ago and the battery only lasts 5-10 hours anyway, longer without NC.
Last question: for the first week I was having no issue switching sound between phone and PC. Simulations connection has always been on but for the past week now it makes me manually disconnect pc Bluetooth to play audio on phone. Even if I pause everything and close the tabs on PC it doesn’t switch back and fourth easily like before. Any tips?
For only $8 this Bluetooth 5 adapter has been great on my Windows 10 PC. https://www.amazon.com/USB-Bluetooth-5-0-Adapter-Dongle/dp/B089NTWC4N I can easily get 20' away still have pretty good connection.
I also have a BT4 adapter, but the range is dramatically less, I can only walk around in the same room without having break-ups.
Ah, I just realised the port on the XM4 isn't a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. So I would need an adapter to convert it to 3.5mm then I can plug it in. Then I would need a controller with a built-in mic? I'm guessing one of those splitters would work too where it splits into a headphone and mic like this one.
Yeah mic is bluetooth only, would need a separate mic (eg: https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK) to make use of cabled connection.
Guys what is the difference between theses ones? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0863TXGM3/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzRjgzSkFCV0JFRFFSJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjU5NTk0MTAwRTNVOUNZVDk5MiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODA4MjY1MjVEWVdBQ1VSVDBXNCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbDImYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

Title says its without mic and voice control. As I'm checking official Sony website, there are only headphones with the MIC. So is it really these without microphone?

I personally use wavelet app and implement the headphone specific curves. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pittvandewitt.wavelet
For pc I usually just go wired as I have not found a way to eq bluetooth headphones yet.
To combine a boom mic, I purchased one of these things too since I read up that the built in mics are not functional when using in wired mode - https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07X4JZQ3H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CqiGFbK2VCT4D
If you don't mind spending, you can go for this one. I've never used it before. https://www.amazon.com/Topping-ES9038Q2M-768kHz-Bluetooth-Decoder/dp/B07VJN11TQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=topping+d50s&qid=1600198328&sprefix=topping+&sr=8-3
When you use a wired connection you can’t use the built in mic. I use for Xbox gaming a inline mic cable like this
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B06Y4XNK8L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QjJqFbBDPPB5X#ace-1376183853
Sound an mic quality is good
Amazon Canada - Sony WH1000XM4, only available for purchase in black at time of posting, shipping time in 1-2 months.
I don't know which retailer on Amazon put the black pair for $278 but it's not Sony-USA. Sony on Amazon still has the $348.00 price for any of the 2 colors.
XM3 on Amazon Warehouse on sale right now for $235. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1/
This was on sale during black friday too and a lot of people got them with no issues but some people including me got different headphones (I got sent an XM2 inside an XM3 box). Thank goodness getting a refund was no issue.
