Please create advanced search apps and webversions that makes it easy to search between, before/after specific dates and most recent, domain, domain blacklist, result type (blogs, twitter, language etc.), file type (eg. podcast, torrent)... Also one for images. This will create more reasons to use Startpage because at Google they're too stupid to invent this.
image search like this one, much better than crappy Google: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sansunsen3.imagesearcher
Yes, it does!
The Private Language Translation feature supports the autodetection of 109 languages and can simply be activated by entering “translate” into the Startpage search box.

For what it's worth I was having this problem for months on end with Mullvad VPN and Brave browser. At first Startpage just blocked use, then they finally added captcha to the site, and now - at least on the nodes I'm using now - I haven't had issues. Fingers crossed.
I remember that there was an accompanying optional form you could fill out with options to click if you were using a VPN (and you could indicate which one), whether you (or browser) deliberately obfuscated browser ID, etc. I'd periodically fill out the form, and eventually it might have helped, I don't know.
Just checked with Librewolf/Mac on Mullvad and the search went through...
Hi. As far as I kwow the android app of startpage (the only one I found was this one) is not official. That means that startpage, the company, is NOT related to this app.
This app is a community project by someone else, and thus startpage cannot remove popup ads are fix any other issues you have with this app. Startpage is not a browser, so do not trust anyone saying that there is one available.
The only thing startpage can fix is issues on their own website, not in third party apps.
Thanks for understanding this.
It's up to you. We use a combination of our own customized list and the Privacy Badger's block list. Here's a comparison to help you decide: https://www.startpage.com/privacy-please/privacy-advocate-articles/startpage-privacy-protection-extension-comparison
Are you sure you are visiting https://www.startpage.com/ and not some fake copy? Startpage is definitely secured with HTTPS. Also, Opera is not a good choice if you are privacy conscious.
I have only come across captchas when using some free VPN service or the really cheap ones. That is their mechanism to block bots kicking in. Never got any captchas ever since I started using Mullvad VPN. Oh, and to clarify, I never got any captchas when not using any VPNs too.
Hi u/monteyvsna69 and u/BenL90, thanks for sharing this! We support a number of organizations dedicated to privacy rights. We'll share this with our team so they can look further into it. Let us know if there are any other organizations you think Startpage should support! Thanks.
More info on the orgs we support: https://www.startpage.com/privacy-please/startpage-articles/were-in-this-together-organizations-we-support
Hi y'all - we always try out best to answer questions.
Hi, fair question. You could look into removing ads via ad blocking extensions and browsers. But, we ask that you consider allowing Startpage ads as they're how we make money and are able to provide a free service to all our users.
Rest assured, the ads on Startpage are contextual ads. They're entirely based on your search query, not your personal data. More info: https://www.startpage.com/privacy-please/startpage-articles/advertising-respects-privacy
That being said, we will share your feedback with our team about ads taking up space. Thanks!

Hm 🤔Are you still having this issue? Our default theme should match your device's theme (https://www.startpage.com/privacy-please/startpage-articles/a-new-way-to-look-at-startpage).
Consider checking our your Firefox preferences by going to about:preferences > scrolling down to "Language and Appearance" > clicking "Colors" button.
Thanks
Now I see (for the first time) the https://www.startpage.com/do/search
effect of using the web page to perform searches.
New to me, because I always use the extension – I use the address bar (in Firefox) to get Startpage results.
Hi Graham, great question! The anonymous view URLs are not as you say, persistent. They will expire after an hour.
However, you can update your Startpage settings to use GET method and then share the link for Startpage results: https://www.startpage.com/do/search?query=npr+8+Tips+To+Make+Working+From+Home+Work+For+You&cat=web&cmd=process_search&language=english&engine0=v1all&pg=0&abp=-1. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions.
Good point! Our support team publishes support articles based on how frequently questions are asked. Over the last few months, we've been working on providing more information and insight into Startpage via the blog, newsletter, and support articles. We'll send over your feedback to the support team and keep your question in mind as we tackle future blogs.
BTW, we're always interested in knowing what type of topics Startpage users like you would like for us to write blogs on. If you have any more ideas, please feel free to share!
Ex. This blog on our data blog was published after we noticed a lot of folks asking "how does startpage work?" https://www.startpage.com/blog/privacy-awareness/how-does-startpages-private-search-engine-work/
/u/StartPageSearch /u/StartpageProductTeam hi,

Nit: the linked page https://www.startpage.com/blog/uncategorized/launching-unprofiled-startpage-news-tab/
is not found.

A more general nit:
Hi again, we're working to show our commitment to protecting your privacy via other methods than open-source. As mentioned in the previous comment, here's the blog post with more detail on our privacy guarding data flows: https://www.startpage.com/blog/privacy-awareness/how-does-startpages-private-search-engine-work/. Thanks!
First off, this is the direct link to that letter.
And to save everyone time, this is the only part of the letter that goes in direction of explaining who bought StartPage: > Privacy One Group is a separate operating unit of System1, focused entirely on user privacy.
Lame, right? Btw, System1 is one of the reasons you have uBlockOrigin and the likes in your browser. And even after reading that great explanation of what happened to StartPage, you still probably won't know the answer to the question: "Why did System1 buy StartPage?".
Unless you're a cynic like me. In that case, everything is plain as can be.
Good question! Here are some key differentiators that we feel are important. What's really important to you regarding your private search engine?
World’s best privacy protection. We’re HQ’d in the Netherlands ensuring all of our users worldwide are protected by stringent Dutch and EU privacy laws including GDPR.
Finding > Searching. We partner with Google for their best-in-class search technology and apply our anonymizing process and privacy policy per search.
“Anonymous View” browsing We don’t stop at search. Our proprietary feature Anonymous View allows you to browse search results without the website ever knowing you were there.
No online profiling We deliver completely un-filtered search results AND protect you from annoying ads and price trackers that follow you around the web.

Yes, I filled out the forms multiple times when I was using Private Internet Access, and again starting this year when I switched to Mozilla VPN (a white-label version of Mullvad VPN), using different nodes on the US East Coast, South, and Midwest. Rarely, a node that previously didn't work does work for a short time, but then it stops working again, and it's just too time-consuming and frustrating to just try StartPage every time I want to search in the hopes it'll work the next time.
I emailed StartPage about this issue this summer and Alex at StartPage replied, "We understand that you'd like to have the CAPTCHA verification page be available at all times, but we cannot do so because this would allow for even more abusive traffic to go through."
I cannot really buy that argument - I don't hear about Captchas letting bots through.
Yes, that's what Alex at Startpage suggested, but the problem repeated with multiple servers using both PIA and Mozilla (Mullvad).
When I asked about being able to use a Captcha I was told, "We understand that you'd like to have the CAPTCHA verification page be available at all times, but we cannot do so because this would allow for even more abusive traffic to go through."
I don't really buy that argument - I don't hear about Captchas failing to let through large bot volumes. And by not allowing any way like a Captcha for legitimate users to use Startpage it is relegating itself to remaining a niche also-ran search engine.
I prefer Google to DDG, and I prefer therefore to use Startpage (as I'm logged into Google and !G Google from DDG means Google can track my searches), but Startpage isn't incentivized to offer me a way in.
I know you dont want to use 3rd party apps, but take a look at fairemail , it's an open source email app with zero tracking or spying of any kind, it has many great privacy features in it
We're not trying to detect anything. We need to protect our site from bots. We are working with many major VPN providers (including ExpressVPN and NordVPN) to make sure that human beings using VPNs can use our site, but the work to allow VPNs while stopping bots is technologically complex and a system we're tweaking constantly on our end.
I have used Protonvpn (paid not free) IVPN and Mullvad and never had an issue with captchas as long as I can recall and I use sp for everything. If I remember correctly there may have been a thread on here a while back where they had an issue with caps on TOR they were aware of and working on correcting unless I am confusing it with another engine.
