Big para- Even if a pet seems simple, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t research before buying it. Otherwise you won’t get the full enjoyment of the pet - they’ll die or get sick or just be a bit shit. Googling ‘aquarium cycling’ will give you a lot more info than this, but I can explain the basics. Here’s an aquarium water testing kit. You’ll need this to find out stuff ab your water. Ammonia is in fish pee, and it’s toxic, so when it builds up to a high level fish die. You’ll want to see the ammonia spike, then the nitrite, then the nitrate. Keep testing your water until this happens, should take around 2 weeks but it could be shorter since I’m assuming you’ve already spiked the ammonia by adding so many fish. Once all of the chemicals have levelled out, your water will be perfect for fish to live in. You should note that adding multiple fish to the tank at once will make the ammonia spike, even if you have stable water levels. You shouldn’t put lots of fish in at the same time, buy fish weeks apart. Also I’m pretty sure some goldfish eat eachother. You should really know the type of fish you have, some fish can’t be kept together. Some eat others, some need different types of water etc. You can’t just throw any fish you find pretty or see at the pet shop together. Do you use a dechlorinator? Do you know what temp your fish need? Do you have a filter? (I can’t tell by the picture). Don’t take this comment as all the info you need to know. Also don’t listen to most pet shops, they just want to sell you things. More often than not they will tell you the wrong info to sell u shit.
No pet is simple if you want them to thrive and live a long time :)
I have science selective on the way (cheers amazon next day delivery) is this a good pellet in your opinion?
Could you clarify on the grasses part? Like... outdoor grass? I'm making a dig box for their permanent home and I do have some cat grass seeds already so this is definitely something I cant accommodate. As for seeds should I be looking at seed based feeds marketed towards hamsters like this, or am I better off just buying a variety of seeds and making my own seed mix?
Does this just mean multiple water bottles or do you mean water in a variety of sources, I.e. a water bottle, a water dish etc.?
I've been hearing conflicting things on this! The rescue that's taking in Mallow said I could provide soft, dust extracted meadow hay if I wanted but it wasn't a nessecity so I'd love to hear more on this.
Thank you for all the information!
You have an extremely similar set up to me. Instead of using towels though I'd recommend getting some waterproof pet fleeces. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C1OBH68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_RBAXQGGYNKC3NQF74B3K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
ive found it has a lot to do with the quality of mice as well, mine likes these more than any other brand ive tried. just look for something high quality. it may take a little extra time trying to feed them and you may need to come back a few days in a row but it will eventually take them, can just be a process sometimes
If Dude has only got a basking bulb, a UVB bulb is a must. Without UVB turtles' bones and shells will malform permanently. She can use either a Mercury Vapor bulb (an 80w Solar Glo should be fine for a tank this size) that produces heat as well as UVB, or use a strip light (Reptisun 10.0 T5 that only produces UVB. Personally I prefer the strip lighting because that way the animal gets UVB exposure even when they're not basking but the difference is honestly negligible in my experience, at least for animals that spend most of their time basking. I know this stuff isn't cheap but it's an absolute necessity for a reptile. Good luck convincing your sister! If you have any questions feel free to ask. Turtles aren't my area of expertise but I work at a reptile pet store and have a lot of experience.
Im feeding meow mix wet and sheeba wet.
They both had good ratings because they have real fish/meat in them as the first ingredient.
Meow mix: https://smile.amazon.com/Meow-Mix-Favorites-Poultry-24-Count/dp/B007TFO6A4
Sheeba:

Any recommendations? during all my research I read that having the first ingredient be actual meat (no byproduct etc) was the most important. Can you tell me why those brands are bad? genuinely curious as I want to learn :)
This is the thermostat I use, $20 on amazon
