Excellent news. Makes it clear that "no fork" really is not an option here. Also makes it clear that a hard fork that returns the money quickly is likely necessary. Note, the SEC is watching this closely: http://www.wsj.com/articles/sec-official-says-ethereum-hack-illustrates-blockchain-concerns-1466459986 We do not want to give them more reason to feel the need to regulate ethereum. And, yes, the SEC is only part of the US Gov't, but its reach is far and wide around the world.

> are there other DAOs?
There are very few currently functioning DAOs. From the top of my head:
Not that these are DAOs in the real sense: distributed autonomous organizations, and not necessarily the decentralized VC fund that TheDAO was.
There are some projects that work on tools with which you easily create DAOs - from the top of my head:
> why didn't they just fix the bug or do a detailed code review and then re-launch months later
A mix of several reasons I guess, just to name a few that contributed:
You're saying vote by proxy. I'd encourage you to read about how that turned out for Bitshares. (I'm not saying every repeat of a similar thing has to necessarily be the same, but we should be aware of the dangers they had.)
Start reading (at least at) "Poor Voter Participation": https://steemit.com/crypto-news/@dan/is-the-dao-going-to-be-doa
We need to do bit more. We need to implement a karmic points type endeavor to reward good behavior.

Well, actually, I have not lost anything.
I knew that The DAO was a scam from the beginning.
Here's my another article, which I wrote long before the attack: https://steemit.com/crypto-news/@gedae/the-dao-framework-a-brief-review-of-potential-architecture-breaches
As you can see, I was very sceptical about the dao, and would not invest a penny in this crap.
So, all your stupid arguments about me "angry", as well as all of the moronic advices to understand markets better are as stupid and pointless as the rest of your arguments: no logic, no consistency, no self-respect.
Just the best representation of the majority you could ever imagine.
What i'm saying in this post, is that not only a slockit are scammers, but most of the ethereum foundation are, and you are helping me with it with every single one of your feckless comments trying to prove me wrong with irrelevant bullshit you don't even understand yourself.
Sorry for being that straightforward in this comment, though. Nothing personal, just stating the facts, which you still can take as my personal humble opinion.
A good book on the pairing of the coming advancements in tech + demovracy called Crowdocracy addresses the Wisdome of The Crowd and what it will look like when we get to a democratic gov based on such--as that's where we're headed. I think Ethereum is poised to be the tech piece of the puzzle.
