If you have a Dremel tool or a relatively sharp knife, you can etch it into the hook itself. The outer color is a very thin layer that's easily scraped off, leaving the bare aluminum below.
If you don't want to do that, or are concerned about burrs being left behind that can catch the yarn (reasonable) then you can write it on with an enamel paint pen designed for writing on glass or metal. This will probably still eventually rub off but will last a lot longer than Sharpie and be easier to maintain. Just be sure to give it a few minutes to dry.
Hope that helps!

Hi Everyone! I have a fun Farmhouse Stocking available in my Payhip store.
Perfect for Christmas in July projects! They work up quickly in Tunisian simple stitch with only 1 seam to sew. Use your favorite color combination for a bright & cheery holiday.
The book is called “How To Crochet” by Pauline Turner. Every project is designed to learn a particular technique. This was the Tunisian Crochet one. https://www.amazon.com/How-Crochet-Definitive-Step-Step/dp/1855858274
Here is a set of inexpensive hooks if you are interested
As well as the stickied threads, there are also now links to YouTube playlists in the top menu bar. TL Yarn Crafts is one of the most popular YouTubers for Tunisian tutorials.
As for books for beginners, Kim Guzman (who specialises in Tunisian crochet) has a book called "Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Tunisian Crochet" available on Amazon. I don't own it myself but I'm sure it's probably very good because her YouTube video tutorials are all very good. Does anyone here own it?
Thank you so much! I used one of these hooks. There's a long cord attached to them to hold long chains of stitches. :D
These are 100% cotton (Lily Sugar'n Cream 14 oz. Cotton Cone Yarn) & the trick is to not use fabric softener or dryer sheets when you wash & dry them. They're super absorbent as long as the cotton fibers aren't treated with softeners or anti static type products. I got both through Amazon & will post the links in case you'd like to have a look & compare them to what you have available in your area. 😀 [This is the yarn I bought: Lily Sugar'n Cream Cotton Cone Yarn, 14 oz, Soft Ecru, 1 Cone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050FI05W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_0G0EEDE1HR6M845B5M5M?psc=1] and the hook is solid Birch wood but is sanded & very smooth. Mine had no burrs, splits or splinters & it's never caught on any of my yarn. To me, thus hook actually seems really well made not like it was quickly slapped together by a machine. I've been using it practically daily for over a month & it's still like new. It got knocked off my desk today and didn't break so I'm quite happy! It's a Brittany brand Birch 7" hook size H/5.0mm (I am absolutely in love with it!) There are some available on Amazon for $9.86 USD. Brittany does sell other sizes as well. If anyone wants one, I'll put the link to it here: Brittany Crochet Hook 7 inch (18cm) Size US H (5.0 mm) 5056 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0054IHXVM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_7879THWVQA4Q53CE13CP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For regular crochet I use metal hooks. For Tunisian, I use the Clover Takumi Bamboo Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Hook Set (3684) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B073454F2G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_TQ3T7YH46NHN7HCCSW7Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s a bit pricier than some others, but there are no keys to fiddle with when changing hooks and cables. I really like it.
For OP, I got this set from the same brand (Knitter’s Pride) and I like them

I got this set! I love it! Addi's quality is unbeatable IMO. They are on the more expensive side but if you use them a lot they are worth it.
Also if you do consider buying this set just know you have to buy the cords and end caps separately.
I loved this project, I actually used one of these straight ones you can buy for cheap since that’s what I had. But for my next big project I will definitely invest in an interchangeable set.
Your colour scheme is so nice and your blocks look beautiful!
I got the Knitter’s Pride Bamboo Hook set and have not been disappointed.
Well. Except for the fact that apparently bamboo smells amazing to my cats and they will cromch if they can find the hooks. Luckily they are bamboo, though, so I could sand out the bite marks without messing up sizing.
I have the Knitter's Pride KP600151 Dreamz Tunisian Crochet Hooks ones and they've been nice! A little on the pricier side though.
These look exactly like mine, they are from the Dreamz tunisian crochet hook set, from Knitter's Pride. I bought my kit here in Canada. 5$ is quite a good deal of you can find replacement cables for a good price!
Knitters pride/knitpro are definitely my fave brand of tunisian interchangeables! I have the ginger set but since have tried the bamboo ones which are nice and the symfonie which are alright. I find the cables to be really twisty and annoying at first, but I steam them straight and they don’t bother me after that.
Hi there, I've used KnitPro/Knitter's Pride and ChiaoGoo and I absolutely adore ChiaoGoo. There is a set you can buy, but it only goes up to 10mm. You can buy hooks separately and they're all compatible with the ChiaoGoo cables.
I find the shorter necks on the ChiaoGoo hooks easier to work with, but there's nothing "wrong" with the KnitPro hooks. It just depends on what you're comfortable with.
The ChiaoGoo hooks are bamboo, and my KnitPro hooks are plastic, but you do get bamboo and wooden KnitPro hooks as well.

Here is a set of Tunisian hooks if you want an affordable price
I've been using these
Contains a set of aluminum hooks ~12 inches long and a set of plastic hooks with nylon cords and steppers.
I'm following this thread though. I want double ended hooks and wanted to see if anyone can recommend those.
I got this one recently. I don't usually use plastic hooks, but I couldn't find a set with metal. They're smooth and I didn't have any problems with the scarf I made with them.
I think they also come in a different set of colors.
I have the Denise interchangeable set and honestly it's not my favorite. It's plastic and the hooks bend the slightest bit as you insert them into stitches, it's a weird feeling. I much prefer the wooden Knitter's Pride tunisian hooks. But everyone has different preferences!
