> I was under the impression that Apple, through Bootcamp, supplied the necessary drivers for Windows operating systems.
I run Windows on my MacBook through Bootcamp and Parallels. Yes, the drivers are supplied by Apple, but by no means are they optimized for performance or (more importantly) battery life.
However, my major annoyances with running Windows on a Mac is with stuff like the lack of the "print screen" key (which I use a lot, and on a Mac you have to hit some weird key combo that I still haven't been able to memorize), and backspace key (you have to hit fn+delete). Take it from someone who's been running Windows on a MacBook for 3 years, the little annoyances build up over time and make me hate the experience. Yes, the hardware is beautiful, and the trackpad works like a dream, but when I want real productivity, I pull out my Windows laptop to do the work. The MacBook has been relegated to casual browsing duty.
Edit: I don't agree with all of these reasons to hate macs, but some of the points are pretty valid in my opinion.
You can use something like this to download and install a Linux distribution onto a USB flash drive, and then boot from USB. Choose a distro like Ubuntu or Fedora.
I wouldn't trust the Lenovo Solution Center much, to be honest :)
welcome camp_jacking_roy :-) happy to have you on our wonderful sub. Firstly I wouldn't trust refurbished laptops check out the reviews of the laptop on amazon, here it is HP Spectre x360 to me its very poor and you could do much better than that. What exactly are you going to use the laptop for and what is your budget.
Why do you have such a big budget you just need $800 max. The ASUS ZenBook UX330UA 13.3-inch 1080p display Ultra-Slim Laptop for $777 over amazon the link is in the name of the laptop, has what your looking. Comes with the latest 7th generation Intel i5-7200U 2.5 GHz Processor can manage fairly casual programs . 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD for storage,Intel HD Graphics 520 Integrated and Windows 10. Also there is a finger print reader involved decent battery life and a really light weight laptop as well 2.6lbs :-), great batter life.
Yes this <strong>ASUS UX331UN-WS51T-BL ZenBook</strong> would definitely be a great laptop to get but unfortunately its out of stock at amazon. you could also check out its latest version <strong>HERE</strong> which has an i7 cpu and more storage space. but is 14 inch and a little over three pounds.
I would seriously look into the Haswell Yoga S11 if I were in your shoes:
Check this link out. here
I have this laptop. It's been great, the 8th gen core is blazingly fast. It's not good for gaming but office work, general screwing around and other tasks are fine. I can edit video quite well too. We have the silver color than the rose gold.
Battery life with normal use has been around 15 hours. Heavy use 10-12. There was issues with its previous generation having a noisy fan. Let me dig up the amazon link.
Edit.. Nope, I have a different model.

How does this compare to https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N1YHVK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 ? It's an amazing discount but looking at the specs I'm not sure what I'm gaining with that $250 bump other than a faster processor, double the disc and ram which I'm not sure I'll use.
If you get something like this Acer VX 15 with the powerful quad core 7th gen i7 processor, 16 GB RAM etc would do a very good job and even allow you to edit and render on the go.
the <strong>ASUS ZenBook UX430UA-DH74 Ultra-Slim Laptop</strong> would be my choice for you.
Thats true and it has a better display quality and viewing angles better portability but this laptop is for persons who definitely will need these specs though so if this <strong>ASUS ZenBook Ultra-Slim Laptop</strong> laptop suits you more go right ahead and get it.
1366x768 res is low for a 15.6" display, and it's a low-quality-TN type panel with poor contrast and viewing angles. I suppose it's good that it has an SSD, but it's small at 128GB. This for $629 just isn't very good.
These two might be worthwhile though:
Of the one you have interest in the yoga 720 would be my suggestion but you could also take a look at this <strong>yoga 910</strong> as well.
This is a way better deal right? Not worth $450 for an 1tb drive opposed to the stock 500gb

with that budget the <strong>ASUS ZenBook UX330UA</strong> is a best seller. it has a solid aluminium built, the latest cpu, 8gb ram, a 256gb ssd which is great for a faster overall performance, its very light weight and its battery life is great.
based on your requirements, this <strong>HP OMEN</strong> seems like a decent choice for you. it light, it has a dedicated gpu for yours games, its battery life does average over 10 hours on regular use and a 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive. if you would like more boot up speed you could change the hdd for an ssd.

secondly the xps 9560 would certainly be a better option to the older xps 9550
you definitely should get this Acer Swift 5. or this HP ENVY. they both have a better cpu, better screen quality great battery life and is within your budget.

I would go with the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54 it as a better rep
Thanks guys for recommendations.
Comparing Acer Aspire S13 ($600) to Asus Zenbook UX330UA ($700) I noticed that Asus' only advantages are slightly better processor and weight. I would definitely go for Acer because of the price.
However, I'm concerned about (what I've read) poor build quality of Acer. As I'll be traveling a lot, I would prefer to have a solid laptop (ideally aluminium over plastic). I can't really judge which one is better built. What do you think?
I've noticed also that someone recommended Lenovo IdeaPad 710s ($800) in another thread. It seems to be built much better than Acer and Asus (I'm assuming it would last longer), has i7u processor and Iris 540. Do you think those differences are worth $200 more?
And the weird thing, I find that specific Lenovo model to be more like $950 in EU, which is a lot more. Do you guys know a good dealer that is shipping them to EU?
I'm really tempted to buy the HP ENVY 13. Looking for an ultra-portable with great battery life, SSD, and good display. Budget is exactly US$ 800. Narrowed my search down to the HP and the new ASUS UX330, but I'm leaning toward the HP.
Suggestions?

The ASUS ZenBook UX303UB 13.3-Inch would be a great choice.
Hi happy to help, Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-52W2
The Acer Swift 3 is a 14in laptop for normal people, not those with the spare cash for something extravagant like a MacBook Pro or HP Spectre. And, compared to those 13in laptops, the Acer's screen is an inch larger. Thanks to the falling cost of making a laptop thin and light, the Swift 3 is no brick. No, it's fairly slim, fairly light and quite attractive. Aside from a few issues that show why it is only half the price of its attention grabbing rivals, this is a laptop that really has it all.
A 6th Generation Intel Core i5-6200U Processor with 8GB DDR4 Onboard Memory and 256GB SSD what more can you as for? Wait... did I mention you can get up to 10 hours of battery out of it and it only weighs 3.3lbs :-)
Thank you very much sir!
What do you think of this one?
lol Check out the* Dell XPS13-9343*
I would go with the Lenovo Yoga 910, a 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-7500U mobile processor so sweet with 8 GB memory and 256 GB Solid State Drive the booting time is crazy fast it weighs 3.1lbs so its really light too just perfect :-).
yes I did some research and I found that the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54 13.3-inch Ultra-Slim Laptop is available not sure why that model is not offered there are just some models there are just not in the country.
Ok its not that bad though based on other reviews of the display because I have the acer aspire e15 with the nvidia 940mx graphics card and the display is the same to me and the quality display is great on it, but what do you think of the acer?
Hi cvc24 welcome to this great sub. take a look at this very light weight ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH54. its a13.3-inch Ultra-Slim Laptop which comes with a decent Core i5 Processor, 8GB DDR3 ram, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, Backlit keyboard, great built quality exceptional battery life and its wel under four pounds. this laptop is an ideal option for traveling purposes. or you could also consider this powerful Lenovo IdeaPad 710S which does pack amazing specs that will suit your needs perfectly.
The Asus ZenBook UX305UA has Skylake Core i5 and Intel HD 520 graphics + 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.
Im getting this Zenbook to be specific. There has been some confusion on what hinge this one uses. Is it the one that is unstable? Is there a video on how to tighten the hinge?
Also, i know i shouldn't use super glue, but would sealant tape work to make the hinges stay in place better?
The thing with Zenbooks that I noticed is that they update them quite often by changing the internals and the colour, but the main body still remains the same. With that in mind, my friend ended up buying the older model with the i5-5200U (UX303LA) and I spent a little time with it since I recommended it to him. The thing I've noticed is that because the trackpad on this laptop is very laggy. Now I'm not sure if it was a software issue or if you could change it in the settings, but I would still keep that in mind. I would recommend trying it out in store if possible. You could probably find it on display if you're near a microsoft store. I personally have the Dell XPS 13 (early 2015) and haven't encountered that problem. With that in mind, and the lack of backlighting on the keyboard, it's a perfectly good choice. GLWB!
Many ppl have recommended the Dell Active Stylus over the HP stylus for the x360.
I purchased an x360 myself a few days ago but it hasn't arrived yet. I plan on replacing the SSD with a PCIe M.2 SSD (Samsung 950 PRO) since I believe the stock one is a SATA M.2 running at about 500/500 read/write. Some of the benchmarks I've seen place the 950 PRO at around 1800/1000 on the x360.
I also plan on doing a complete clean windows install to get rid of the bloatware. I've heard there's not much on the x360, but I figure it can't hurt. I'd have to either mirror the old HD or re-install windows either way.
Otherwise just install all of the HP updates on their website and then run windows update. I'd go with the HP released drivers over the default manufacturer drivers just to make sure they work with all of the x360 functions. (E.g. touchpad turns off when in tablet mode.)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B014VHVZFQ/ref=twister_B017BCF43W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Yeah the UX305 is a newer model that got released earlier this year. The UX303 is older, but it's considered a higher end model of the zenbooks, so they re-release it with updated CPU and stuff. The UX305 was released to target more of a entry level ultrabook.
I've been wondering the same thing about the Lenovo U31-70 - 80M5007EUS. Have you considered it at all?
Better CPU and cheaper. But slightly heavier and I'm guessing shorter battery life.
