Looks like you might already have your answer but heres my take.
I bought two sets of these and i think they are affordable and great. Note, that they are satin not silk.

I found these clips on Amazon that have made a huge difference for me with volume at my roots (they do take practice because they can almost make it too intense). I use them when I diffuse at the end so that my hair doesn't go flat right away like usual with heat no matter what I try.
I love the Mop Top curl custard!
I find that it doesn’t weigh my hair down like mouse and gel tends to. The crunch is also super easy to scrunch out.
I used the Lotta body moisture me Curl and style milk for keeping the curls in shape. Use a small amount. It's re- scrunchable with water added if you brush it out. Main interest is Shea butter.
For low porosity hair.
I'm sharing a link bc I'm excited to find it again after a year without.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O4GWZPO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_WV6E9133FRTVPAPNRGG6
It’s the curls blueberry bliss leave in conditioner, it’s in a taller bottle, not a tub. It’s this one, not necessarily suggesting Amazon as a purchase place, just thought a link might help clarify which one I meant
Hi there. Not sure of your current routine, but I suggest adding a leave-in conditioner if you don't already use one. Also try scrunching some hair gel in. Are you planning to grow it out? Next time you get it cut, let them know you're trying to get your hair to wave so they can give you an appropriate cut. Also, maybe try adding some hair clips. Something like this. A couple of other things you can try include a hair mask or deep conditioner, a protein treatment, and/or olaplex no. 3. Let me know if I can elaborate for you on any of these points. Good luck, you got this!
Thank you for your reply and suggestions! I had never thought protein overload could be the issue, but in retrospect it makes a LOT of sense. I was actually thinking of doing a protein treatment like olaplex 3 (as another commenter suggested) , but I'm going to proceed with caution and do a protein "cleanse" for at least the next couple weeks as you suggested. I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only wavy who has to wash every day! I kept waiting for my hair to get out of the "greasy" period when I stopped washing daily and, well... it never happened, lol.
Those lighter conditioners sound awesome! I'm in the US so unfortunately no weightless waves for me :( I've heard praise for their Pro Pure Conditioner Light Moisture on this subreddit before, sounds like it might be a good dupe!
And r:e the Nizoral--it does contain sulfates, but not much (third to last ingredient), so I think I was just paranoid of it not being cleansing enough, hence the Suave. I'm actually trying to cut back from every other day to twice a week for the Nizoral, but that's probably still going to be clarifying enough.
So my initial thought was this one. But I did that thing where I thought so hard about it I thought I actually purchased it lol. So if anyone has any better suggestions I'm all ears!
Of course! I definitely think the headband will help. Mine are similar to these (they aren’t the same exact kind, but they were a similar price and have held up for years) and use one to tie up the bun as well (it helps keep it looser than a hair tie does, scrunchies are great too)! And I totally feel you with the refresh hair not looking its best, I’ve found that washing a bit more often (usually every three days), conditioning/detangling every time I rinse, and using quite a healthy amount of gel have all helped a bit!
okay, for no heat... have you tried the heatless curling rod? At night, wrap your damp hair around this wand... look up a tutorial bc its easier than explaining... and sleep on it (either cover with a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin pillow case)
I haven't used this exact one, but this is the general idea:
https://www.amazon.com/Heatless-Headband-IENIN-Scrunchies-Overnight/dp/B09HWZDT96?th=1
When Manes By Mell broke her wrist and was in a cast, she used a hair dryer stand! I’ve never used one, but may work for you.
Yes of course! I bought a recent curl cream from the brand Cantu. They have a range of organic ingredients and it smells amazing. My specific one has different ingredients than the one below but I'm assuming it works the same!
This is the link to finding it on Amazon. It might be in your local shop or pharmacy.
I have this diffuser for travel and I really like it.
I use Head & Shoulders, so no special curling shampoo. When I hop out of the shower, I used the Devacurl gel (though I bought the small size at the dollar store and it still lasts forever). Then I use Herbal Essences curling gel. That's it! My hair seems to have retained its natural wavy texture overtime. I also got a haircut, which helped redefine my hair.
I have no idea who is telling you not to touch your hair after you get out of the shower, but it makes no sense to me either.
In addition to skipping that serum as suggested, try adding a gel (or maybe mousse, with your fine hair) to your routine. After the shower :D Brush the gel/mousse through your hair, then use your brush to create hair clumps. I use a Denman brush (though try it with whatever you have) to clump my hair, then scrunch upward to start squeezing out the water.
You might try some clips to give you volume at the roots. They make specific root clips, but I just use ones like these: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07J5P9LNY?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
Leaving a hair mask overnight creates a barrier above the cuticle, preventing your hair from breathing. Also, some masks contain high levels of protein, which can be damaged if overused.
I got this one on Amazon since it was pretty well reviewed by a couple of outside sites.
You know how you pick up the sides of your hair when you're starting a ponytail? Like that, but instead of scraping your hands through the hair (which will straighten it out) I just use my forefinger on each hand to kind of lift up each side loosely. Then I take one of those mini jaw clips and clip the pieces to the top/back of my head. Then I leave for work. Commute takes 45 minutes. About an hour after I get to work I take the jaw clip out. (If I remember to. Sometimes I don't.)
Not off the top of my head, no. I've had good luck with the majority of the ones I've used over the years in general though.
I bought this but have yet to break it open and try it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PFY5KNL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but the reviews look promising for my (our) general hair texture.
I liked the Jane Carter wrap & roll mousse but I think it's discontinued, which is why I don't have any specific recs off the top of my head. I'll start trying some over the next few weeks and try to report back. I need to wash my hair tomorrow so maybe I can try it then.
Of course, I use Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Hair Mask and Imbue Protein Mask.
I like the Moroccan oil brands, but I really don’t notice a huge difference between any of them. I have received at least 10 different ones in Beauty box subscriptions and they all work pretty much the same.
The main difference is smell and consistency and texture, but the overall products are very similar.
I like this one:
https://smile.amazon.com/Moroccanoil-Treatment-Hair-Travel-Size/dp/B003JKFEL8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa
I’ve not been diagnosed with alopecia, but my edges gave started to thin. I began using Camille Rose Rejuva Drops late last week…let’s see how this goes: https://www.amazon.com/Camille-Rose-Rejuva-Drops-Grow/dp/B085RKSPZG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?adgrpid=122300761813&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnbmaBhD-ARIsAGTPcfVvPPcdc0aT5FK-9V4ND6rF1oGfJWs2TwVFZq5yVuT7JwiTXoDhV5kaAi8AEALw_wcB&hvadid=557322230824&hvdev=m&...
The cut itself looks okay, I'm not sure about those red streaks though, they don't look very well blended. Red dye washes off very quickly (2-3 washes), after that I'd suggest a toning mask. I use L'Oreal pastel pink or dirty blonde toning hair conditioners, they're not permanent either, my end result is rose gold ombre.
There are many options depending on which color you want. There's a product called Redken Color Extend Brownlights, it evens out and adds more brown tones to the hair.
Your styling looks okay, you might wanna distribute hold products a little more evenly, right now one side has it all and other side is lacking.
It’s a little pricey ($27) for a large tube, but not $80. I don’t use much so it will last me a long time.
I used to get the straightening perm every year or two and I didn't do much to my hair in between. Once I had enough growth to the point of my hair looking messy, I would use the volumizing dryer every now and then.
They can me too. It’s finding the right one. The heavy shea butter or Cantu ones weigh me down.
But if I use something like Not Mothers curl define cream and apply it in very wet hair and really squish it to distribute through the clumps then it doesn’t weigh me down.
Right now I go back and forth between that one and Ouai curl cream.. which I really like. It seems thick at first but melts into hair.
My holy grail is Oribe Curl Control Silkening cream. My hair is always perfect w it, I’ve never applied too much and I can use with or without a gel behind it. I ran out and instead of getting more have been trying other brands but regret doing so. Should just stick w what I know works
Orrrrr could try a mousse. Like Not Mothers on damp hair, possibly layer w gel before or try after.
But just experiment and have a backup messy bun day for when hairs don’t behave. (I like those two prong hair pins! They’re comfy and don’t ruin waves)
I like these for a secure pony. They even somehow make the pony fuller as well.
Once they stretch out you can wet and pop them in the dryer to shrink again.
I think this might just be a characteristic of fine hair. Mine is very fine, and the ends tend to look stringy and tangled after a bit. I use a very wide-toothed comb to gently comb through the ends a few times a day, and that seems to help.
Braid it when it gets long enough, a loose simple 3 strand was perfect for me when I had long hair
Otherwise, have you tried those microfiber twist turban things?
They can be slept in, so if you don't toss and turn they should stay on pretty well, I've had good success. I wind everything up like a bun, so none of my hair is actually twisted about, and then slap that bad boi on and I'm good to go.
This is anecdotal but I use this https://www.amazon.com/Aquaphor-Baby-Shampoo-Fluid-Ounce/dp/B01EAH644Y Im so shocked this didn’t leave me with itchy and flakey scalp (I think my scalp is sensitive since this is the first time it doesn’t leave my scalp as such) As for the conditioner, I can’t help you with that department as I think mine has tea tree, but you can look at the product ingredients yourself.
-Psorzema Scalp Relief Conditioner
Here are my favs from all I’ve tried. They’re firm and have not discolored. I don’t think you should need anything larger.
You basically twist your hair into a bun then the fork starts upside down near the tail of the bun. Then go down into hair nearest scalp. Then flip the fork and push through.
That’s prob the worst set of instructions on earth lol
That's awesome to hear!!! Okay, here's my suggestion for a GOOD spray bottle. It's a fine mister. Extremely fine mister. It's so good. I literally use it on my hair and also on my pet parrots because it's cheap and a perfectly fine mist: https://www.amazon.com/Beautify-Beauties-Flairosol-Empty-Bottle/dp/B07GRD5WLD
I cannot say enough good things about this one. Giovanni. Does a great job of taming frizz and defining curls. It also is good for your hair.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B08LYVNJ3J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this one! and i don't remember the links (maybe i look them up so other time), but there was some people talking about that in other threads. in the curly girl method there was also an excel to international options, and japan is included
I was stumbling upon a cg method video and the person was sharing this shampoo: Nizoran anti-dandruff shampoo. The reviews seem really good
Just noticed the question is confusing, I need help how to take care of my hair in general, including hair loss, which as you said after I started letting it go taller it became noticeable.
My hair routine, shower 2 ~ 3 times a week, then apply some of this creme
on the morning when I do not shower I apply some water and extra creme, brush and that's it.
main issues with it, I can't get it to hold some form, after shower when it's still wet, It's so nice, when it gets dry turns into something like sheep wool, looks and feels bad, and that's so frustrating :(
Ok, so I dug around a bunch and found this which is super natural (no sulfates, parabens, silicones, etc and no aloe vera or coconut (both don't work great for low porosity hair) or heavy creams/butters. You just need to find a Trader Joe's near you. Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo & Conditioner https://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Tingle-Shampoo-Conditioner/dp/B004IM0KYM
I feel like this could be a good fit, but I would also try the shampoo/conditioner you already have first! Also I have never tried this product before, but I think I remember seeing at least one post where someone used this in their routine, so maybe someone else can weigh in, or you can search the sub for mentions of it. Let me know how it goes!
Marc Anthony Strictly Curls 3x Moisture Styling Jelly, Basic, 3.4 Fl Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H51CJRY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_543RZM40VTSMXQVW2CNN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Is this a good choice???
Sorry to bother you… AGAIN, but I don’t really have a Trader Joe’s near me and I saw that the price on Amazon is like… triple what it is in store. So I was looking for something similar, and would this be a good replacement? Not Your Mother's Naturals Curl Definition Shampoo and Conditioner (2-Pack) - 15.2 fl oz - Tahitian Gardenia Flower & Mango Butter - Moisturize and Enhance Curls https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KQ24CZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GHY7NYMCGWQNV5W5076W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Absolutely not 😅 The 3x moisture (oil, cream, butter) is going to MASSIVELY weigh down your hair. This product is made for curly or kinky hair patterns, not wavies and especially not fine low density low porosity wavies. This is the one I mentioned (this link is a 6-pack which you probably don’t need, also I sort of suspect that Amazon uses fillers in their products sometimes, so if it were me, I would not buy it off of Amazon) L.A. Looks Sport Xtreme Hold Gel, Hold Level 10+, 20-Ounce (Pack of 6) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000A3V2BI/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_RK35F4MN9REYJKXKHTMZ
I use this... it's 10.99 & universal & fits two different blowdryers I have.
Universal Collapsible Hair Dryer Diffuser Attachment- Salon Grade tool ,Lightweight Foldable Portable Travel Folding Design Fit Most of blow Dryers-PinkPink https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DL4WF4X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_1NN0ECKFJQ1QWGSASA0P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Also i love this blow dryer and the Extraaaaa Longggggg Cord. I do not like the diffuser that it comes with though.
JINRI Infrared Sterilization Professional Salon Hair Dryer Ionic Sterilization Hair Dryer with Diffuser & Concentrator Attachments for Curly Hair, Black (Large) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ER8NMYQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_S1F8EFZYH5XF5SB2YFY1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I normally don't pay more than 24.oo (bc im cheap..) but this has been worth every single penny. 30% off right now too. I may get another 1. I've had mine 2+ years... but yeah code for 30% off on Amazon is EBWLR4XX no affiliate code or link. Straight info I found on Amazon... but the Diffuser I listed amazing. Silicone doesn't get hot to touch.. & doesn't expand from heat & fall off.... ❤️
If you're thinking about olaplex, you might try this first. It's under $10. I've ordered it but haven't got it yet. The reviews are promising though
Elizavecca cer-100 collagen coating hair protein treatment 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I2ZQJSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_i_T72YB2A3VEY7Y6YFEKBN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I had this one but it made my skin itchy for some reason. Would something similar suffice?
Routine
Shampoo - Herbal Essence birch bark extract shampoo
Conditioner - Aveeno blackberry quinoa protein conditioner
I apply about a pump or so of Uncle Funky’s Daughter curly magic with praying hands to wet hair while in the shower. I then brush with a knockoff Denman brush to disperse and encourage clumping.
I microplop when getting out the shower and apply Herbal Essence totally twisted mousse with praying hands.
I recently got this Behairful knockoff brush.
I brushed my hair with is to distribute the mousse. I didn’t realize until recently you’re supposed to brush your hair out away from your scalp. This has definitely helped me with volume.
I then plopped for about 5 minutes and then diffused on low warm heat until about 85% dry. Then scrunched out the crunch and viola!
My top crown is straight and layers underneath get increasingly wavier. I picked up curling/bendy rods to help -mine were from 5 below but like these 30 Pieces Flexible Curling Rods Twist Foam Hair Rollers Soft Foam No Heat Hair Rods Rollers and 1 Steel Pintail Comb Rat Tail Comb for Women Girls Long and Short Hair (Dark Blue,7 x 0.3 Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09GJYLX1H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_C6B35B2MSACYZ2C98JWD
I put them in when my hair is about 90% dry and just run the hair dryer over them for a bit.
yes, it was a total game changer for me! This is the link for the one I use: Boar brush
I really love using conditioner with tea tree oil in it (Giovanni tea tree triple treat conditioner is my favorite - it’s also super lightweight and has some ingredients that help as cleansers). I use the same conditioner to condition my lengths after. It’s also helpful to use a silicone scalp scrubber during the cowashing step. Like this one:
american crew light hold texture lotion !! its a little pricier than most the gels recommended here but i just borrowed it from my brother so i didnt know the brand until just now
Thank you! This is the brush I got. I got the small one as it was the cheapest one at the time. A bigger one would probably suit me better, but haven’t made the effort to get one.
Similar experience! I have colored 2B/2C hair (natural Indian black hair with ombré vibrant purple, so it’s really bleached 🙃)
One thing I do the night before wash day is oil treatment. I use a Ayurvedic oil Himalaya hair oil. I’ll massage from scalp to root the oil and braid my hair and use an old cotton tshirt or microfiber towel to protect my sheets as I sleep. Or a plastic shower cap.
I also do a deep conditioning weekly with a diy hair mask. My recipe: mayo, 1 egg, 4 tbsp of coconut oil. Leave it on for 30-45mins.
I kept using the shampoo and conditioner that always worked for me but adding keracolor cleansing color depositing shampoo so I can have my purple looking fresh. I’d recommend looking into it since you colored yours.
As for my waves, I loveeeee WaveTech system from XMondo. It has been the only product that I found that works for me. No crunchy gel cast and beautiful defined hair even with air drying!
I'm currently using TGIN Rose water Leave in conditioner. I find that it's light enough not to weigh my hair down, but definitely packs a punch with moisture.
I have 2a/2b hair as well, but about 20% of my head (especially around the back/crown) grows wiry, crinkly, coarse, pube-like hair. Some of them even grow to be as curly as 3c hair, but it's way different from normal 3c hair. iykyk. Anyhow, I empathize with your struggles with coarse hair. Keep using deep conditioners and keep using what has been working for you.
UFD curly magic is pretty nice. The consistency is slightly thicker than egg whites. It can weigh down my hair on air-dry days, so I make sure to use it with diffusing.
I also bought Mousse Def because of that review video too, haha. It is very light and still feels viscous. I usually don't like using mousse because I bought this one last year, and it was just so weak. It felt like it would just... disappear when I applied it. Maybe you had a similar experience since you have coarse hair. For this, though, that wasn't the case. I can also leave my hair half-dry and feel secure about my waves maintaining their shape. I think I prefer it more than UFD curly magic.
But from my personal experience: there is no gel or mousse that will do justice to your waves unless you use a styling brush. Especially if you have coarse hair. It takes a little bit of time and practice to master, but it organizes my coarse/frizzy hair way better than how I managed it before. If you need help on styling with the Denman, which is what I use, then pm me.
This is the one my best friend and I love:
Rooted Rituals Ginger Root + Mint Quick Rinse Scalp Scrub, 6.7 Fl Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0856SN2HT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RCNHGYB03S0WVF74JAMG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Sure! I got it from Amazon. Read a lot of reviews and went with this one from Amazon. There are some less expensive ones in the $30 range but based on reviews this one seemed better (aka less issues). It takes a little bit to figure out which table and chair will put you at the correct height, but I'd rather have that and be able to store it away than get a standing one that can't be stored easily.
Red by Kiss 1875 Watt Ceramic Tourmaline Professional Hood Dryer BOD04 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079HBXBT7/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_G9HEM6DV6PEJRXSZ09H8
Maybe you should try out curl cream instead of gel our mousse! This is the one I use: Cantu Shea Butter Coconut curling cream
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Collagen Ceramide Coating Protein Treatment https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAQ3N7Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This has been a holy grail product for my fine, high porosity hair. Turns out it needs a lot of protein to have body and not frizz and just look put together. I already knew I love Asian (specifically Japanese and Korean) sunscreens, but it turns out their hair products are fantastic too.
Yeah, I’ve tried a few different strategies over the years and nothing has worked for me 😅
I’d say to start with mousse if you have to choose between the two. Gel is used to just kind of lock it into place.
I bought this universal attachment on Amazon; it works well! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VJ06PG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_C98SKG1MCRCDD5WNCX9C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s my pleasure. Feel free to DM me if you ever have any other questions or wanna share how your hair turned out that day 🥰
I can definitely relate to that! I used to get the Japanese straightening treatment done once every year or two so I wouldn't have to deal with it. It's only recently, after cutting off all the split ends and damaged parts, that I realized my hair seems to have curly pieces and decided to give WGM a try.
If you ever want to wear your hair straight, I highly recommend Tigi Bed Head Resurrection Shampoo & Conditioner and Davines Renaissance Circle Hair Mask. These products make your hair feel sooooooo silky.
I asked my stylist if she could thin out my hair and she said it was a bad idea for people with wavy/textured hair. Apparently, thinning will make your hair appear more frizzy. She told me to just own having big hair and somehow that made me feel better. I like to pretend I'm a lion wearing its mane in its full glory. 😂.
I use this one: Curlsmith – Multi-Tasking Conditioner, 3 in 1 Conditioner with Proteins, for Damaged Hair (2 fl oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09R24RRKY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_XTN0A9WD512JVZ9WYYFP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
>So you plop prior to your help with only leave in and then microplop after your gel?
Yes. I don't do the initial plopping to promote clumps. It's just to get excess water out. I microplop after gel to get out excess water if I added any, and also extra water/product that will take my hair longer to dry.
Also, Leave-in is really gonna help with frizz.
>Do you end up with more frizz this way?
I style right side up specifically to prevent frizz. For me upside down always made my hair extra frizzy
>Also how are your clumps?
I'm not sure what kind of clumps you're looking for, but I don't aim for big ones. I do like definition, but I also like volume. More clumps for me equals more volume. I use a bristle boar brush to create tension while I brush the hair up and away from my head after I use curl cream. I just let my hair do whatever kind of clumps it wants when I scrunch in hair gel.
Now that being said, I've noticed the wetter the hair, the bigger clumps you'll get. But the trade off is insane dry time. I've personally figured out a good balance of water that gives me kind of clumps I want without having to have it soaked.
Hopefully this helps!
Don't apologize for asking questions, it's the best way to learn!
Ah I see you’re european 😭 i’m american so idk if my amazon link could work for you but i’ll link it anyways, this silk bonnet is $10 USDTbf I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, it just doesn’t work for me because I have more flat hair so I just apply product when it’s wet, scrunch, plop for about 20 mins (not overnight) and just air dry it out until my hair gets kinda crunchy and that’s where I scrunch it out with either my hands or cotton t-shirt. Tbf tho i’m still experimenting atm so take my advice with a MASSIVE grain of salt
I have shoulder length, but have had longer.
My "tricks" are apply product (I do leave in, mousse, gel), then scrunch out the extra water with a micro fiber towel, reapply a little more gel with "praying hands," then diffuse upside down on high/high. I use a pretty generic pretty old (5-8 year old not very expensive dryer with a diffuser attachment that came with it). Gather hair and hold still for 15-25 seconds, move to next section. As it starts to form a cast, start moving around a little to get to different sections better. when it gets about 75-85% dry I usually stop cause it's been about 20 minutes, I apply some hair oil concentrating on the ends. Sometimes I'll finish drying with the diffuser, usually I'll just let it air dry from there.
At night I tie it up in a satin scarf, that preserves the curls the best as I get lazier and the wash days progress I use a satin cap or braid it.
Sometimes it needs misting and scrunching with a little diffusing in the morning to refresh. Sometimes I add some leave in or curl cream to that. This takes less than 5 minutes.
What makes the most difference for me is the cut. Getting my layers right and the length optimal for how much hair I have really let my curls shine.
For specific dryers here's the one I have. Idk if I'd "recommend" it, but it hasn't done me wrong. Ok maybe I've had it longer maybe since college (10 years? 12?) I only started to use it more frequently in the last 4-5 years:
Conair 1875 Watt Style and Shine Hair Dryer; Purple/Black https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000IF3D38/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WWTK8Y0Y2BK2NVEMBEXA
I got the Conair CompleteSteam from Amazon. It works great. I like that I can just set it down on the counter and the cord is really long. It does only last 5 mins, so you might need a bigger one if you have more hair.
> I'm thinking the latter would be better as I could just pile my hair into the bowl where the face is supposed to go?
I wouldn't recommend piling the hair in. Steam is super hot initially out of it's source. You may accidentally end up frying your hair. Also, I don't think the water would distribute properly, it might just get stuck in the ends.
>Or the gun type could be better because it's easier to go around my whole head in sections?
That would probably be better. More control to get the steam where you need it.
Glad this helped!
I’ve never had that happen. You’re probably safe if you buy a modern dryer. All (?) seem to have a cover that prevents it from sucking anything in.
If this still makes you nervous, you could try a dryer cap. It looks a bit silly and you wouldn’t get the same lift as you do with a diffuser attachment, BUT your hair would be tucked away and safe. You could try this out and maybe get used to hair dryers again. I think I’ve seen a review or two over on r/curlyhair as well.
Sometimes when I see a post with no comments I have to say something so the OP doesn’t get sad 😅 I use this turban and I use a silky (not real silk) scrunchie one time around my hair at the top to direct it all into the turban. It’s kinda cute :) you can get big scarves for much cheaper on Amazon
Does your hair like protein more than moisturizing? I love and exclusively use Giovanni Mousse Air Turbo Charged Styling Foam. I find it at Whole Foods (singly) and Amazon in a three pack.
GIOVANNI Mousse Air-Turbo Charged Hair Styling Foam, 7 oz. , Lightweight for Natural Curls, Medium to Firm Hold, Wash & Go, No Parabens, Color Safe (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ET789M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_RFE1HYP8N9P7WHRNPR66?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Idk about a tutorial, but I got some Goody spiral hair pins recently ( Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, Assorted Colors Dark or Light Hair, 2 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FVDNO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_V84EBCS96QRMPDJ1XEW0 ) and I’ve found that they make it really easy to do more hairstyles! After sectioning my hair into two parts and picking out my “bangs” in the front, I use scrunchies to make high pigtails. After that I just kind of messily roll my hair up and then use a couple of the spiral hair pins to secure my hair, and whatever tendrils fall out I leave out. That’s my favorite part about the hair pins- you can have a loose look but your hair still stays in place during the normal course of a day.
Malibu C has a powder that you use on wet hair in the shower to strip the hard water mineral buildup from your hair. It also works pretty well on product buildup, in my experience.
And this Korean protein treatment is fantastic for free and dryness in high porosity hair.
These work for my long, thick hair. Look small but are actually quite strong!

I really like it. I got it from Amazon. Here’s the name: INFINITIPRO BY CONAIR GOLD Soft Bonnet Hair Dryer, Black. That should pull it up for you. This might work too. Amazon has others ones too. Malibu blonde hard water treatment is CG friendly and makes my blonde go from brassy to bright beautifully. I use every 2-3 washes and I’m astounded at how well it works.

I use a detangling brush. Before I bought that I used my fingers or a wide toothed comb. I do think that a brush like this is great for distributing my conditioner and leave in conditioner throughout my hair.
It can get super overwhelming! I would only buy and try one product at a time. When I first started I bought a ton of highly recommended mousses and curl creams, but later realized that I strongly prefer gel to any other styler. Try to keep it cheap until you figure out what you’re looking for. I think the techniques you use to style and dry your hair are more important than finding the perfect product. Watch a few simple routine videos on instagram or YouTube and watch how they apply products.
I have this one and really like it! It's really affordable and works very well. https://www.amazon.com/Bed-Head-Curls-Check-Diffuser/dp/B00JXQ06X8
So funny that this popped up for me today, but the stuff I was talking about is on sale now. Almost a 2 for 1 and remembered this thread! Hair Flyaway Tamer
If you only wear your hair curly and want a dedicated diffuser, I highly recommend the BedHead Diffuser dryer. My hubby bought me one last year and I love it so much. I don't care for the color scheme, though. I think Revlon makes a style like this too.
There's this head and shoulder's "scalp serum" that really helps sooth and moisturize my scalp (https://www.amazon.com/Head-Shoulders-Supreme-Hydrating-Vitamin/dp/B07YG6RSTJ) in between wash days. Highly recommended!
I used to use a silky polyester scrunchie to tie my hair up, but it pulled a lot and felt heavy and within a couple hours I would have a headache. I recently bought these big claw hair clips and it was so comfortable. It held all my hair up without pulling on anything, and no headache. I used this method and it looked good, too.
I have the same problem and the only thing to help nourish and keep the frizzy tamed is a pump of Moroccan oil Moroccanoil Treatment Oil https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AO0WCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_3JKY27N5EB4HCH6DRDC9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I got this one and it doesn't slip off. I kind of plop my hair into it and hope for the best! Sometimes I just hit a few small sections with a curling iron if I need to in the AM, but it sometimes works like a dream. How do you like the curlsmith souffle? I use their gel, but I'm not sure what else I should try. My wave pattern is really similar to yours!
this is the one I bought for my teen; his hair is nearly to his waist and it works pretty well for him. I like that it comes in some less-typical (ie not pink or sea foam green) color choices.
My routine
I wash my hair every other day with shampoo first and conditioner
I wash at night and allow my hair to dry while I’m sleeping. I brush in the morning. I would wash in the morning so I don’t have to brush out the waves every morning but I just don’t have time.
I have a mix of wavy and curly hair (like not "I'm on the line between them" but rather I have strands of both), and my cheap reliable go to gel is Aussie Instant freeze. Smells good, defines well, and I feel like it's easy to use less/more to get different results. Sometimes I rake it through my hair and let it air dry to make everything nice smooth waves. Other times I'll use 1/4 cup practically and I can get most of my hair to curl with some pieces going full ringlets. It will definitely require scrunching out the crunch though.
My other favorite is Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft Curls. I find this one doesn't give me much if any crunch usually but does just as good with defining and taming frizz! Pricier though and sometimes hard to find. The Target by me carries it, but they're frequently out of stock.
I use this flat clip with the hair on top of my head and then a buff over the top of that. The clip does leave any bumps/lines and doesn't pull out my waves/curls. If I need to refresh in the am I use a spray bottle of water and a small amount of leave in and gel.
Np!
>Is The Honest Company Gently Nourishing Conditioner the only one you recommend?
I actually would recommend not only these, but tgin's Rose Water Shampoo + Conditioner DUO. This line is specifically built for low porosity. I haven't tried it yet (I'm being a good girl and finishing everything I currently have, lol), so I can't give a personal opinion on it.
>other drugstore, easily available products you can recommend
Unfortunately I don't have drug store recommendations :(. Most drug stores only offer stuff built for medium to high porosity hair. I have scoured everything (at least in my drug stores), and nothing has been compatible. Not sure where you live, but if you're in the US, you'll have better luck in a Target or Sally's beauty supply.
>low density and low porosity
Hello hair twin! :D
Glancing over the products you use, I'm noticing they contain coconut, shea, and/or castor oil.
These oils are large, and do not penetrate the tightly laid cuticles of low porosity very well. That means they sit on top of the hair. Therefore they make the hair look greasy while also not moisturizing hair. It's better to use lighter oils, as they penetrate the cuticles and don't leave the hair looking greasy or weighed down. I have used the Air-dry Cream, and I found it too heavy for my hair.
I personally love pre-pooing with a light oil. It's made a massive difference on keeping my hair strong and moisturized. I currently use sweet almond oil, but any light oil will do.
If you want to deep condition, I absolutely love ecoLove - Deep Conditioning Hair Mask. It packed full of light oils and no protein.
I might be a good idea to look into lighter products for washing and styling your hair.
Hope this helps!
This should work on your blow dryer

This is the one I use. It’s amazing. Makes the curls pop. Conditions. Adds shine.
I just got this one a couple of weeks ago and love it!
>I like to run my hands through my hair, so I won’t use a mousse but should I try a gel?
>Also I dry brush nearly everyday but I usually don’t add any water for a refresh so it’s my version of a refresh.
I think you would benefit more from a leave in and soft hold gel.
I personally love OUIDAD Advanced Climate Control for soft hold. Believe it or not, this stuff holds my waves ALL day (with killer definition) but breaks up enough for my fiance to run his fingers through my hair without snagging at the end of the day.
Now, it definitely does need a refresh the next day if you want the same definition. I've skipped srefreshing, which leaves me with super subtle waves.
I have a similar fine, wavy hair structure. Kind of a 2A/2B hair with a little bit of 2c in random parts. I have a hard time finding cream based stylers that don't weigh my hair down or leave it looking greasy.
Recently I started using the Cantu wave whip curling mousse. It's kind of amazing? My hair feels like nothing is in it at all and my curl patterns have been getting much more definition. I'm still experimenting with how much to use but I definitely will throw my recommendation toward Cantu. AND it's less than $6 so, hard to go wrong. https://www.amazon.com/Cantu-Natural-Hair-Curling-Mousse/dp/B0178H2LK4
FWIW I was able to find the Rock Hard Gelee on Amazon. I got it a couple weeks ago and love it!!!
Don't brush your hair when it's dry. I actually use a small amount of conditioner once my hair is soaking wet in the shower, in order to finger detangle before shampooing. This helps make sure the shampoo can run through my hair easily without any tangles.
Also Got2b's air-dry foam is the BOMB. I started using it just last week and my frizz problem, which has been driving me crazy my whole life, has been considerably diminished!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Schwarzkopf-got2b-Foam-Spray-200ml/dp/B07T3H8KPH
Honestly I changed up my routine only a week ago, I saw results pretty much immediately! The biggest thing was cutting out any products with protein, and just sticking with the air drying mousse. Like seriously, that mousse is the bomb, I'll link it here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Schwarzkopf-got2b-Foam-Spray-200ml/dp/B07T3H8KPH
Also sealing the hair at the end of my shower with very cold water seems to keep the moisture in and make it sleeker!
Curlsmith has a great protein line that doesn't have heavy moisturizers in it. Amazon carries sample sizes that you may want to try out.
Also, look for products with light oils such as argan, sunflower, sweet almond baobab, and jojoba. Those won't weigh down your hair like Shea, coconut, and mango.
I'm sorry to hear you've been losing a lot of hair :( have you checked your bloods, just to check if it's an internal problem rather than external? Hopefully you get it sorted.
I can say that as soon as I cut out protein from all my products, I stopped losing as much hair in the shower and it's automatically much healthier. Your issue could very well be protein overload! The Pantene line is called Gold Series, I'm not sure what country you're in so I will link it from Amazon so you know the name of it. I haven't tried the shampoo yet as I feel my Faith and Nature one makes my hair happy, but the conditioner is the best I've ever used, personally.
I will also link my clarifying shampoo. It has coconut in it, which usually wrecks my hair, but for some reason the product works well for me, doesn't strip my hair of all the oils, but gets rid of all my residue!

I recommend ecoLove - Deep Conditioning Hair Mask.
It's high on moisture retaining ingredients, low on protein, and I personally love the smell (pretty mild IMO, if you're sensitive to that).
