All 5 of my 2nd gen Airport Expresses have been working fine. Try pushing a paper clip into the reset switch while plugging the Airport Express to reset it to factory settings. I have to do this rarely on mine. Also interested to try this Belkin adapter Seems like the closest thing to an Airport Express that exists now. Blows my mind that Apple doesn’t make something like the Airport Express or the Amazon Echo Input. AirPlay is the best multi room system out there, and more people who want to use the speakers they already own need to experience it.

Thanks so much for the insight, guys. Been using an Arris modem-router combo, paired with these super useful MoCA-AP combos, which I'm guessing probably aren't up to spec with UniFi.

In the back of my mind, I was wondering if this was the sign I needed to go full enterprise router-with-wireless-backhaul, and this was the validation I needed before I drop a few hundred on those :-)
