I’m back at it for the first time in years as well. Here’s the basic terminology I’ve picked up on recently
“Hits” - autographs, relics, or other rare cards such as limited print cards numbered out of 25 or 50 or 100 or so on...
Relics - cards with uniform patch cutouts
Blaster box - $20-$40 box of cards bought at retail stores like Walmart or Target. Good cheap option, but doesn’t usually guarantee any hits.
Hobby box - bigger box of cards usually ~$70 to $100+ depending on series. Contains a lot more packs than a blaster box, and usually guarantees at least two autographs or relics.
Base card - just a good ol standard trading card
Parallel - an alternate print of a base card, usually has a color variation of either the background or the border.
That’s the end of a bat (which I assume you know)—it’s a Jackie Robinson Day patch. That’s a great card!!
:edit: Looks like this in its original form.
Amazon still has 500packs for $5.99. Shipped and sold by Amazon. If it’s not showing as $5.99, look under the “Other sellers on Amazon”.
Topps actually made this set for the 2016 Champs. (You can definitely find the set for $20 or less on eBay but I figured the Amazon link might be valid for longer than an eBay auction link.)
If Cecchini or Lopez turn into anything, those '87 Style Inserts are fairly popular (the Judge and Benintendi versions go for $10-20 right now), but that's more a waiting game.
You might be able to get a ton for that Machado autograph, though. Great pull.
Edit: If you haven't already, invest in a couple penny sleeves and plastic top loaders to keep them safe, especially the Machado.
Here are a couple amazon links for what I use: https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Soft-Sleeves-8-Inches/dp/B00CV859XC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498764432&sr=8-1&keywords=penny+sleeves
Got you fam: Amazon
Go under alternate sellers and you can get them for $5.99.
Ultra PRO Clear Card Sleeves for Standard Size Trading Cards measuring 2.5" x 3.5" (500 count pack)
Actually found them (500 count) on Amazon for retail price ($5.99) - someone posted this a week ago or so.
Go to additional sellers and it should be on there through Amazon - Aug 8-10th delivery.

Just an example. They are a little thicker than paper envelopes, so you have to be careful with thickness. For cheap cards they work great. I tape the card onto a piece of paperboard (think cereal box cardboard), which holds it in place, then put a 2 piece of paperboard to sandwich the card. I have have 1 damaged out of about 500, and that was simply crushed by something. No helping that. Good news is ebay standard envelope is insured, so I refunded the customer and got my $$ back as well.
Yep, here it is on Amazon. Lockable 36 Graded Sports Card Display Case, for Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey Comic Trading Cards (Horizontal-Black Finish) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033RZCPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-31zFbFP4J3AK
I've been lucky at finding penny sleeves at retail - 1000ct packs for $10. Amazon often has the 500ct packs for $6 here, but make sure you buy the ones from Amazon and not third party sellers.
Top loaders, on the other hand, have been much harder to come by. I broke down and bought a case of standard top loaders a couple of months ago, so I don't have to worry about it anymore. They ended up costing me about $4.50 per pack (25), which is on the expensive end in normal times but is a pretty good deal right now. Bought those at Blowout but the only ones they have in stock now are the Ultra Pros at $300/case ($7.50 per pack). For those I'd recommend checking your LCS to see what they have.
Thanks man! Here is the link to the stands I bought on Amazon.
My two favorite Trout cards (first was pulled from a blaster, second was a contest win from a forum several years ago).

Here you go! I’ve been big on telling everyone I can in this sub about these, so I imagine you saw a previous comment of mine. I love how cheap these are, and they’ve worked perfectly for me!
They work perfect for up to a handful of top loaded cards.
I put mine in a graded card sleeve. They do make thicker penny sleeves, I'm going to order some of these- but I doubt they are thick enough for these monsters.
Maybe not as neat, or flip through-able, but I've really taken to the old 5000ct boxes. Cheaper too, I think I paid 3$/box, then sorted by company, then year of course. Its really nice looking at an entire row that has 1950-1969, or 1979-1989. Plus if it's full you know roughly how many you have, without having to think too much.
Edit: Link to most of my collection below, pictures of my sorting included.

If I were in your shoes I would search eBay completed listings for each of the suspected valuable cards. An explanation on how to do that can be found here. If you have a local card shop, it wouldn't hurt to take them in to get an offer. But selling them yourself on eBay (or to another collector on here or r/basketballcards) will probably be the way to make more money. Getting a card graded likely isn't worth doing unless it's a very special card in great condition.
Anyone know of any in Houston area?

Edit - Those in San Antonio, Fresno & Van Nuys might be in luck:
BCW makes them. I bought them on Amazon. They come in packs of 10. A little pricey at $6 per pack. But they are made really well. Some retailers sell them for closer to $4. But they are sold out. They have several colors to choose from. Be aware that the material is a little rough. It's not like the typical smooth clear type. I slide cards in very carefully. I find that they slide in better if you penny sleeve them first.

I use these: PACKZON Shipping Labels with Self... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYPSK40?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You will get 2 labels per sheet and it’s so much easier than taking the printer paper label to the envelope
The black boxes are the bottom halves to Pokemon TCG Elite Trainer Boxes. The plastic tray is the BCW Modular Sorting Tray which I totally recommend! You can adjust the angle at which cards sit or you can lay em down flat.

I just ordered two of these - Pro UV Graded Sports Card Display Case for Football Baseball Basketball Hockey Comic Trading Cards Horizontal-Black Finish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033RZCPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MRPBM2B3XMT3E5H3JPS1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Yup: if you order the Ultra-Pro ones, they come included: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087BLDX8Z?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Otherwise, you risk fraying the corner. You always want that sliding in nicely (#thatswhatshesaid) with the sleeve on.
I use these for low value/ PWE. They’re really close to the size of a top loader so you don’t have to worry about securing the card inside it. I just use a top loader/ team bag and slide it in here then close it up. Never had any complaints.
ValBox A1 Invitation Envelopes 100 Qty - 3.5 x 5" White Envelopes Self Seal for Invitations, Wedding, Baby Shower, Small Gift Cards, Thank You Notes, RSVP - 5.125 x 3.625 Inches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087LT73GD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6JM2KVQZ53M1Q3SARSSC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For BMWT I use these. You can even ship it with 2 stamps if you don’t want to pay for tracking but still want some extra protection.
Fu Global #000 4x8 Inches Kraft Bubble Mailers Padded Envelopes Pack of 50 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HB4NCLQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_csiT8Kxwd9pGX
For PWE, I usually use a cheap thank you card. Ship the card in a top loader with a team bag around it and painters tape the team bagged card to the thank you card. For BMWT, card in top loader. Team bag around that. Cardboard with painters tape on both sides of that. Make sure it fits snug inside the bubble mailer to limit movement. Tape closed the flap to the bubble mailer. As far as what type of bubble mailer, just get in bulk from Amazon. This is what I got last time
Yes it’s a penny sleeve in a top loader. The card is from my dads collection and they were all unprotected in a shoebox for decades but recently I bought the cases on Amazon and put the good cards in cases
There are cheaper options than using eBay for supplies.
Bubble mailers are $0.06 each on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVNJYD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ms0NFbG8X584K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s cheaper to get your top loaders and penny sleeves from an LCS, if anyone has one near them. Should be $1 for a pack of 100 sleeves, and $3 for a pack of 25 top loaders.
Painters tape will also be the cheapest on amazon, so just add that to the order with the bubble mailers.
Ordered it off Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ADAUV8I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_HP4iASlf7QZ83
Pretty pleased with it for the price. Cards don't really fit in there in toploaders so they're all in penny sleeves, but it isn't that big of a deal since they're not getting handled in there anyway.
10 for $12 on Amazon.
They look to be about the same dimensions as the $6 ones.
Aviditi M943 Crush Proof Corrugated Mailer
I ordered these from Amazon, and they hold toploaders nicely. You have to be careful with the size ordering - they have a bunch of different sizes. Either the 8x4x3 or the 9x4x3 will hold toploaders comfortably. I think in the 9x4x3 you should be able to get at least 100 toploaders, depending on thickness. (If it's just the standard 35pt, probably easily 100.)
Downside is they sell in bundles of 50 for about $30, but if you don't want that many and you have friends who collect you could split an order.
Looking at the amazon listings for the book, it looks like the guide is not a complete record of the pricing for all sets. You can get a one month subscription to beckett for one sports for like $12. You can copy and paste their pricing checklist by set into a spreadsheet to "keep" for your own use after your 1 month expires.
Jumping on the top comment to say artist tape is even better than painter's tape (artist tape is meant to tape to paper and come off clean). Also, take 2 seconds and fold the tape over so your buyer can even more easily peel it off.
https://www.amazon.com/PRO-ART-1-Inch-60-Yards-5330-1/dp/B0026S3PCY
These mailers work well enough for singles and small lots. You do have to buy 500 at a time, but I do enough selling that it works out. I pay a bit less than 9 cents/ea after tax.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082J7JPN1
And if someone buys a bunch of cards, I'll typically pack in two bubble mailers, then wrap in a 12x9 envelope. I've shipped 100-card sets that way for less than $5.
Planning to use two of these and some stands. Will probably sub the base card for the super to fill them both out.

Idk if this is something you’re looking for or not. You cant add pages to it but you can fit cards with penny sleeves in the pockets. I use it for my PC Cards, I can send you some pictures if you’d like to see how they fit.
No problem! I also invested in this tool which has already paid for itself x100 because it helps you see things that you normally wouldn’t with the naked eye. Similar to what the grading companies use -
SKYZONAL Handheld LED Magnifier 20X Optical Glass Magnifying Glass with Light Scale Magnifying Jewelry Loupe with Storage Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CZSKODC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OWLdFbJV0HMSC
I got these from Amazon. They’ve gotten a bit scratched up in the few weeks I’ve been using them, but I think I’ve been sorting through my cards a bit more than one usually would. But surface scratches are obviously better than damaged cards. If I’m trading or selling, I’ll just switch to a fresher one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LX8BVUJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_G3ubFbC3R18AV
I typically use these, they’re nice for the slabbed cards and you could probably fit about 15 cards with top loaders. Anything more than that you can just use an old amazon box or something like that.
Once the buyer pays, you’ll have to buy/print the shipping label and can just put it in the mailbox. Your your funds should release to you a few days later.
Won't have archival glass, but I bought this for an old jersey 10 years ago. My grandfather played 16 inch softball back home in Chicago and we had his old jersey. Probably from the 1940's.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NV31FA
The frame looks nice. I placed a few old pictures of the team he played on in there with the jersey.

Well worth the money to display effectively. They look great on the wall and you can get some cheap spotlights from amazon to focus some light on them if needed. Good luck!
Yeah, I think you’re right - after looking around I see some that say “up to 130pt”.. but in general it’s like you said.. “thick/large”
https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Z-Folio-Zipper-Portfolio-Playset/dp/B00YG78KUU
Another option. A little higher quality and pages of 12 cards instead of 9.
Everything I've seen that's sleeved up should probably be an 8 minimum. If you really want to send in a bunch of cards to get graded, it's worth considering a centering tool - particularly on cards from the 80s/90s, but even today, if a card is slightly off center, it can take a card in pristine condition from a 10 to an 8 or 9.
Also, I love buying PSA 8s, I think those cards usually look fantastic, but the price difference between a 10, 9, and 8 can be massive, and a lot of 8s of even decently good cards - think like the Jeter you have - are not worth the cost of grading, where a 10 would be. Card shop definitely seems helpful and that is super good advice, just be forewarned that even if your cards are literally spotless they could score low enough to make grading not worthwhile.
Box(25) Pro-Mold 55pt. Magnetic... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VSGT9T3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have thishanging at my house, but it could be laid down flat to display at shows and has a keyed lock.

Works Great for Card in toploaders too!

You could just put it in a black one touch case, it would be displayable that way and look cool:
Amazon might be a better option, I found it for$43 on prime. Not sure which stores our distributors have sent it out to in your location since this is a very new product. You could possibly call stores around you asking if they could order it for you at a cheaper price.
I ship about 1,000 packages a year so grain of salt
I wanted to get off the standard print-->cut-->tape down process (other people use the printer and didn't want to constantly switch back and forth) so I bought this during a sale for ~$120? I don't know how much you ship but if its a higher quantity, I highly recommend the Rollo.
The ones I currently use came in this set. But I can't find them by themselves, and I don't need any more toploaders right now...
I have an entire box of duplicate ‘69 Topps if you need any help completing the set. I’m trying to complete my dad’s set too.

2 or 3 row “shoe boxes” like these: https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Shoe-Row-Storage-1600/dp/B000K41E56

I just posted this as its own post. But amazon has a pretty good deal right now for 200 top loaders with sleeves for about $35. If you have prime or get free shipping its worth it imo.
I can't find the exact listing but it was basically a stamp like this and a gold paint pen - which I colored the stamp with and then "pawed" & signed (actually the GF did the signing).
I got too excited and threw the card into the one-touch too early and the card is now cemented in place. Make sure to let it dry!
iMagniphy Light Up Magnifying... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018I1S2Q6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one I bought off Amazon, comes with built in LED light and 2 different zooms. Its like $20 and works amazing for inspecting cards
Oh, I'm definitely hedging my bets on this one.
https://airtable.com/shrFUp7SB2RD1YPBH
But I suspect the RC badge carries too much authority. What about his Bowman Draft cards that don't have a "1st" on them?
It really depends on what you’re looking to collect - if you’re set building or just ripping for fun and not to hunt and build your personal collection, this isn’t 100% necessary. Toploaders are usually used for serial numbered, colored parallel, short print, autographs, relics, rookie cards, or anything you might like. A binder also works well, though the only ones I use are ones that fit a card while in a penny sleeve like this one
And what is the overhead if you decide to get something graded? The likelihood of having a PSA 10 is extremely rare. There’s an 8 in good shape. Take the overhead into account and you make almost nothing.
Staedler Lumocolor fine point blue (.6 mm) or the Stabilo OH pen fine point blue (.7 mm). Both of these are the ones the card companies use for certs.
STAEDTLER 318-3 Lumocolor Universal Permanent Fine Pens - Blue, Pack of 10, box of 10 (318-3 VE) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J6F7GW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q8SE9893XXSMC5G2RJG9

The only caveat I will give with these is they might not work as well if it’s freezing. On the rare occasion where you’re getting autographs when it’s below freezing, use a Sharpie.
The blue Stabilo OH pens (.7 mm) are also very good. The card companies are starting to use them for certs in addition to the Staedlers.

I use rigid photo mailers like these. Cost a little more than PWE, but offer much better protection, and you can still cover the cost plus postage by charging $1 shipping.
The truth is it depends on the binder and the pocket. Most 9-card pocket pages are made from acid-free plastic that are perfect for protecting the card from basic handling that comes from turning the pages. However...
I'd also generally advise using a semi-rigid card holder instead of a top loader since they are safer to remove cards from and can be turned upside down without problem.
Dude, $85. I wish I could remember the username of the person on this sub who first posted them so I could thank them.
And thanks re: the cards. Chop on!
There are too many variables to predict your grade, esp w/o pics. I've gotten many 10's back from SGC, but I inspect them extensively before sending them. They grade on centering (did you measure that w/ a centering tool?), corners, edges, and surface (you need to inspect using magnification for surface damage you can't see with the naked eye).
Best of luck on your grades, but if you just sent a bunch off hoping to get 10's b/c they were pack fresh and didn't do any prep inspection(s), don't be surprised when you get a mix from 8's-10's.

It’s amazing and so fast. Wish I invested in one sooner. But for the most part just read the reviews, especially the recent ones. I know some just won’t work on a Mac for example.
For those of you that have played Topps Bunt, I wish something like that existed for physical card tracking. You could easily find the owners of the cards you’re looking for, see a photo of every card, and know populations for each card and parallel.
I built my own tracking system using AirTable that I’ve had others ask to use, but I haven’t had the time to expand it for multiple users. You can see it here, though.

It's always a good idea to look these over with a jewelers lens before grading. I just was organizing some cards yesterday to send off for grading, and noticed a lot of them had scratches and "dimples" on the surface that would eliminate any chance of getting a 10 on them. Any prizms like this are notorious for surface issues.
Also, make sure the surface is free of fingerprints or dust by wiping with a microfiber cloth if needed. I use these personally:

Use eBay standard envelope shipping. It's like throwing stamps on envelopes, but it is insured. If you are going to sell a lot, I would invest in a thermal label printer. Around $100 up front, but it does not use any ink. They are super easy to use
Upgrade your envelopes. I have never had a single card damaged since I started using these. I sell a lot of base card lots, and can fit about 10 in one of these for $.73 in postage. HGP 6 1/2" x 4 1/2", 100 pack,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CT8YKT3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I also use 6x8 paperboard envelopes to ship as many as 20 cards for $.93.
Save up all the paperboard you get. Think cereal boxes, cases of soda/beer. I cut it into 4 1/4 x 5 3/4 pieces so it fits in the envelopes. I invested about $25 into a paper cutter to cut up the paperboard. Then depending on how you are shipping cards (top loaders, team bags etc.) Use painters tape and tape them to the paper board. Insert into the envelope. That keeps it from moving around during shipping.
With the new tax laws, keep track of what you are paying for cards/shipping/fees to offset your sales.
