> My main statement will be to prove to everyone what I’ve secretly known for ages: that I’m a better songwriter and lyricist than 90% of Icelandic musicians, my mother included. I’ve always been going to shows or listening to the radio going: “this sucks. I can write rings around this,” so about a year ago, I decided that once I finished school, which I did this spring, I’d stop doing everything except being a musician, if only to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.
He's made some super pretentious statements elsewhere and acted like he's a genius musician way more than his mom has. Kinda funny when you look at his rym reviews.
There used to be a thorough explanation of the scores, but this was in a different time several years ago when I think the ratings mattered less.
If you're interested, this was the old explanation:
10.0: Essential 9.5-9.9: Spectacular 9.0-9.4: Amazing 8.5-8.9: Exceptional; will likely rank among writer's top ten albums of the year 8.0-8.4: Very good 7.5-7.9: Above average; enjoyable 7.0-7.4: Not brilliant, but nice enough 6.0-6.9: Has its moments, but isn't strong 5.0-5.9: Mediocre; not good, but not awful 4.0-4.9: Just below average; bad outweighs good by just a little bit 3.0-3.9: Definitely below average, but a few redeeming qualities 2.0-2.9: Heard worse, but still pretty bad 1.0-1.9: Awful; not a single pleasant track 0.0-0.9: Breaks new ground for terrible
Right now, think of the following basic code for how significant a rating is for a newly-released album these days:
* Ratings above 9.4 have seldom been given to anything but reissues over the past few years. * 9.0-9.4 - Sure to be album of the year material * 8.0-8.9 - High endorsement, but much higher still if it comes with Best New Music; there is no particular cut-off point, I've seen albums with ratings as low as 8.3 get Best New Music, but some 8.5ers don't get it. I don't know the criteria for selecting Best New Music. * 7.0-7.9 - Decent endorsement * 6.0-6.9 - An "ehh" review; at this point the review starts to hurt an album's prospective sales if it's pitched at a "hipster" audience * 4.0-5.9 - Standard negative review * below 4.0 - A real slating
Yes! The Cosmogony performed that day is the very best in my opinion. The sounds of the choir was mixed superbly and she's got Flea of RHCP dancing for her!
In case you were wondering, here's where I got it from -- best buy of my life -- sorry, I ate my banana so I only had a stapler for scale : https://www.etsy.com/transaction/185443815?campaign_label=receipt_buyer&utm_source=transactional&utm_campaign=receipt_010170_7297498688_0_0&utm_medium=trans_email
No idea about the Isobel Song Cycle but a short Google search returns this Quora Question and the Isobel Wikipedia Page could probably give some insight.
Yeah it seems there is different track ordering on the original vinyl compared to the amazon vinyl, it also seems that Handa Tjolla is not on the amazon version and is instead replaced with Let Us Get Rid of the Bomb.
Also, sidenote: anyone else notice that KUKL's page and music got taken off of Spotify?
I'm not sure if there's any mention of her inside the book, but it's nice they chose her for the cover photo!
This is the link to the book on Amazon.
The 33 and a third book on Homogenic which covers her entire life pretty much is fantastic. As long as you’re also ok on fairly detailed sections on the production and mixing of that particular album, which is mainly important because it’s the album she made at the most crucial point in her life and career.
It’s definitely real - it’s currently on Germany’s Amazon: https://www.amazon.de/Bjork/dp/B0BBQ4RS6V/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=2X9U7J2C6B90D&keywords=björk&qid=1661923101&sprefix=björk%2Caps%2C173&sr=8-16&fbclid=IwAR3X3v0WO24KTe0i34GC5rfnifzwBq3kbktGQuYkI7aBMZbYqeUMKur-npM#immersive-view_16...

medúlla is consistently rated considerably better than volta, both by the critics and the fans.
I'm so glad you enjoy it! I probably should've given the post a more scintillating title or commented with background information.
It's a track from Hector Zazou's album, Chansons des mers froides. He was a French composer and producer who collaborated with a lot of eminent artists. Each song on the album has a different featured vocalist: Siouxsie, Suzanne Vega, John Cale, Jane Siberry were some of the other names I recognized. It really is worth listening in full. Someone compiled a Youtube playlist with all the tracks.
I saved the 1080p streams of these three shows with a nice little Mac app, meaning: no screen recording and transcoding of the video and audio, just the actual streams. Where's the best way to share these MP4 files? 5,33 GB total.
