Do you have a light bulb outside at your front porch? If so, you can replace it with a motion detection light bulb such as this one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K8BN8L8 , and turn off Night Vision in the Blink Camera. So, motion outside would trigger the light bulb to turn on, and the Blink camera to record as well.
Yep. 3 of my outdoor cameras use solar panels plugged in via USB. Specifically https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HG5STZY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have had no problems with Panasonic Eneloop Pro Batteries even though they are 1.2V. The Blink battery meter says they are low, but they work fine for 6-8 months for me.
Tenevolt 1.5V Rechargeable Batteries have been recommended a couple times here too, if you want to have the Blink battery meter read correctly. Though if the constant 1.5V output is good, you wont get much warning when these get low.
They make a couple different options for this if you want to buy one. Zip ties seems like it would work just as well. I only noticed these when shopping for a mount for mine, haven’t personally used, definitely read reviews & look at different ones. Meant as an idea not a personal rec..

The Panasonic Eneloop batteries are the best rechargeable AA/AAA batteries I have used. They work well in my Blink cameras. I go 6 months or so between charges, and the cameras are used/active pretty regularly on best quality. The oly issue is that rechargeable batteries charge to 1.2V (instead of 1.5V) so the cameras show a low battery pretty quickly, but they will run for months like that.

Both were on Amazon but using the phone mount was my idea. I like it because I mounted to the side wood under the gutter but can position the panel above the roof line towards the sun. No drilling into the roof.
I did have to modify the back of the solar panel to connect the mount to it, but it was very easy to do, simply drill 4 holes where it won’t interfere with the internal battery and you’re all set.

Do you have any gutters you can attach them to?
I have used these in the past and they are very good:

If you have to attach them to brick without drilling, Gorilla tape might do the job.
There are all types of camera-mounts for different scenarios. Checkout these great coil-twist mounts, might be easy to use on a tree:

Not the best option using a mini inside recording through glass. But if it’s your only option I would recommend using a window mount. Link below
Make sure you turn off the IR and any status LED’s The only problem, you can’t adjust the viewing angle. It will just point ahead. I have have installed one in my work shop in July this year and it to be reliable. I have outdoor lighting so it will pickup motion 10 to 15 feet away.

Each location requires a Sync Module, so you will need to buy one of this (or buy more camera bundles, as each bundle will come with a Sync Module).

However, now tanzd has posted I would use their "Jenga Block" method. It would look prettier in a kitchen as you could stain, paint or finish the wood to match :)
UPDATE: Blink CS either didn't understand what I asked or they just gave me a generic response. Basically they said "...please try to visit the Amazon website or Costco again, or our other retail stores". None of which actually carry the part I need.
Question: do you all think something like this may work?

This problem was addressed in a number of posted comments.
The best way to get a clear image thrown glass, use a Blink mini window mount. Turn of IR , and use a outdoor light source. The link for the mount is below. Hope it works for you :)

First thing that you need to do is locate a dry and shady location to mount the camera. A power outlet needs to near by. Remember the mini is not designed for outdoor use so waterproofing and sealing can only do so much.
You should test the mini in that location to make sure it will connect to your wifi and sync 2 module. In my case I had to install a add on Mesh repeater.
The first item is the is the hard case. I purchase mine off Amazon
Hard Case for Blink Mini (Black 1... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08HLLFD1G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Waterproofing: I used WD40. (Great water repellent). I sprayed it on inside and outside , let it dry for 30 minutes.
Note: I had to remove some of the plastic around the power port area. Just enough so the power cable could bend a bit more.
Once you have the cable port enlarged you can now but the case on, then use some Silicone Sealant around the power port. Let that dry for a few hours so it can harden up before you mount the camera.
Next Install the mount making sure the screws are in all the way. Now you can mount the camera and run the power cable.
One last note, your Warranty will not be covered if it dies.
Good luck on your install.
Thank you for the reply. Do you know if something like this would be good, or could you recommend one?
Also do you know if I can just copy over the current videos onto a new drive and have them show up properly in the blink app?
Thank you again.
You can use a Blink mini through window. To make it work you need to buy a special tape on bracket. You can’t use IR, but if you have an outdoor light source it will work. Also it can only look forward. I have one installed on my shop window looking at my backyard and garden . It picks up motion within a 15 foot range. But I mostly used for live views.
This is the link on Amazon.ca for the window mount. I paid about $12 CAD for it but the price has now gone up. I highly recommend it for anyone that’s in a apartment or wherever you can’t mount a Blink outdoor camera.

You don't need to but if you have the means, I would. I live in an apt so I bought a door mount (sort of like a clamp system)... the design makes it difficult for someone to try to steal it without drilling.~~~

I am happy to save money and battery trash with rechargeable batteries. The Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries are great. I use them for 6-8 months before recharging. I don't know how long they could go. The only downside is the cameras show the low battery icon the whole time.
A couple months ago I started using rechargeable 1.5V lithium batteriesin a couple. The Tenavolts have been great so far and may be a better choice if you are worried about the voltage.
recently saw these on amazon since i also had a similar issue while installing my blink video doorbell

It literally says inside the battery area to use lithium only.
These are the only ones I use, I get 18-24 month battery life in my XT2's.
On this amazon product page, it says:
Sync module 2: Does not support live view recording.
Question:
In that case how does one record live video from a blink mini?
Any reason you just don't buy one from Amazon? They are $35:

That's where I picked up my second one, so I could splint my outdoor cameras into two group for scheduling purposes.
Camera Cage. - sits so close to the camera, depending on how you angle, you won't even see the bars.
Honestly it’s about placement.
You should place them in hard to reach spots or places that people would have to face no matter what and covering your cameras with other cameras so no one could just take them without setting one off.
Also look for inside window mounts that you could also set your camera up on.
Something like this

Blink cameras are or good for constant monitoring. The technology is good for brief moments. Their stronghold is the battery life but even with that only half of the cameras I have work as advertised.
If you can get power tot he cameras I suggest you get a wireless DVR system. Something like this:

I've got the common Deta doorbell that a lot of houses here have, which unfortunately is full 230V AC power right through so I need a transformer.
I was thinking of just buying the Ring one as it should in theory work? https://www.amazon.co.uk/din-rail-transformer-2nd-generation/dp/B08MVVQX28
My existing chime won't work though so I will have to totall rely on the app and any Amazon Echos for the chime.
Actually, that will cause a problem for anyone else in the house not knowing when there's someone at the door!
Bloody hell, maybe I should just get a Ring doorbell instead and have Blink for the cameras and Ring for the doorbell.
I bet this would work I have used it for all types of stuff. Comes in a few different sizes too.
Account sharing isn't yet supported on Blink like it is in Wyze (nor is it known to be in the pipework).
If your phone supports it you can run two copies of most Android Apps. The option is in Settings, Parallel Apps OR, use an App called Parallel Space to clone the Blink App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.parallel.intl&hl=en\_GB&gl=US)
(or other similar Apps are available)
However note that this route isn't officially supported and there may be risks in supplying your login credentials to the container App.
The 'easiest' solution may be to buy a cheap phone and keep that one signed in to the other account.
Or contact customer services to turn off the 2FA for your mothers account if you prefer.
I have been running a solar panel on one of my XT2 cameras. Been working flawlessly for 6 months. I bought 2 of the same panels to test out. One camera was continuously going offline. Had to unplug it from the panel to get it to come online again. Eventually had to use batteries in that camera. I definitely blame the camera though. These are the panels Too bad they are unavailable at the moment.
I use this one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Q3JD2XM/ it works well.
I stuck 4 small rubber feet on the mount at the points where the metal contacts the gutter, just in case the metal rusts so the rust will not get to the gutter.
I just put up these next to my blink outdoor cameras, they work great, charge better, and have better and brighter LEDs, for a whole lot cheaper.

Saw your update, glad it works now.
It's supposed to support drives between 1 GB and 256 GB in size.
Anyway I've been using this Sandisk Ultra Fit 128GB which works well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07855LJ99/
I bought this one, no active subscription but if it's less than $5/month I'd be willing to look into it. I did notice I've got a 30 subscription trial, but to be honest I'm not sure what that holds as the app and "instructions" that came with the box are pretty bare.
It looks like the max is 256 GB. I would put in a 256 GB since they are only about $30.
Hmm….maybe. Have tried two, second one being a higher end Sandisk model. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XG9XP49/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_585SYRPXXTZ6TEQEXTCA
Saves videos just fine, visible on PC. Nothing in app.
Before my 30 day free trial ended a few days ago, (trial came with purchase of a sync model 2) I was able to see all clips in the “clips” section of the app.
After the end of the 30 day trial, the exact same area says “This USB storage device has no clips.” And yet, to reiterate, the USB storage device indeed does have clips, many many clips, which are saving properly and quite visible on PC. But not on the app.
Yes, about a month ago it was listed on the Blink Community forum as due on 17th January 2022. The forums are offline at present as they are/were being migrated to Amazon.

I don't see anything in the video either, but you might use something like this door seal sticker that is numbered and shows whether it has been removed from a surface. That might help confirm for you whether a door was opened or not, since the video here seems like it could be movement of the sunlight.

I use these Tenavolt 1.5v rechargables. I use my cameras a lot in high traffic areas so they last about 1-2 months. I have extras already charged so I just swap them as they die.
For the cameras that are harder to reach I have a wasserstein flood light with the usb mount.
My recommendation is to use Lithium batteries. Even with heavy usage they last for about half a year.
If you need more than that, consider hardwiring with USB power, or connect a solar panel:
https://www.amazon.com/Wasserstein-Internal-Battery-Compatible-Outdoor/dp/B07W7Z87RV/
I don't know if they work well, but you might like to know there are third party 4 AA housings for Blink cameras. https://www.amazon.com/Wasserstein-Extension-Compatible-Batteries-Included/dp/B08VJ4V5KD/
You'd sort of be better off with a cheap low-end router like some of the ones from GL-Inet or something else that'd be able to glom onto nearby free wifi. Most will either use USB or a direct 12vdc connection. Might want to search for 'Car PC' kinds of forums to find out good battery/power management answers.
Could be an all-in one setup with a rasberry pi and a built-in camera could be a useful hack too. That'd run self-contained, but could certainly be configured to notifications and such. Might be a different way to approach the problem.
There are such things as USB power monitors. They'd let you get an idea about how much power a usb-powered device is actually consuming over time. I've not worked with any specifically, a random search led to this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013FANC9W/
I use these rechargeable batteries in my cameras without any problem (other than the low battery icon). I run them for 6-8 months between charges. It's much cheaper and better for the environment.
Good question.
Looks like this company has stepped in to provide an alternative:
I use Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries in mine and have no issues. The cameras work fine (other than showing the low battery symbol) and I recharge them about every 6-8months depending on use. I have the original indoor, XT, and XT2 cameras.
A Blink mini wouldn't be what you're looking for. They aren't discrete at all. It's eaisly large enough to see. Has to plug into an outlet and makes a click when motion is detected. Also you can't, nor are they meant to record for hours on end. The 30 second clips are the best you get. I would honestly, in your situation be looking for a Nanny cam of some sort like this.

Is because winters where I am get very cold and I wanted some extra insulation.
Glad I could help. I also use these, but add some 3m adhesive to them so they don't slip out. Works alright, but I like the sticky ones much better.
Or use these, they work great. I have several. One is exposed to a tenemndus amount of direct elements. It's held up to 40mph winds.
That is not a xt2. That is the New indoor model(think of it as an xt3). You dont need xt2 module. (sync module 1)... you need a sync module 2.

They do not sell them seperately yet. And I am doubting you have found one on ebay. Your friends best bet is to buy the 1 camera kit with sync module 2 included.

I have one at my front door, which has 2-3 detections a day. Used to have 4-5 at my old place.
Retrigger is set to 10, sensativity is set to 7, clip length is set to 60, with end clip early if motion stops. Night vision control is auto, IR level is medium, and video quality is set to standard. That combo gets me about 6 months of battery life.
For high traffic areas I use solar to keep them running. I have a driveway that gets 20+ triggers a day and has no problems with all the settings up. It has never once not functioned because of lack of sun. Even through the wisconsin winter.
Here is the panel I use. I have two of these and they work great for the outdoor XT cameras. Haven't had them on the XT2 or new outdoor ones yet.
These

Amazon has stopped selling the XT2 camera after it got very average reviews. A lot of people were complaining about audio going out and Wi-Fi range being poor. So this "outcry" is not overwhelmingly terrible, but it was enough that they pulled new units from being sold.
