You’re a special kind of stupid.
There are edible paints available!!!
The silver and rainbow are the two I put on everythingggg. I love it so much, lol. My poor dog even ends up sparkley 😂
Are you talking about the gummy candies? I think the sparkle sugar are less attractive than what OP made. And honestly, I'd probably toss the gummy candies too. Those aren't much different than wax lips either.
I got this set for my daughter's first birthday cake, and I've made a few cakes with it since then, and I've been pretty happy with it. I'm no expert though so others might be able to chime in otherwise, haha
I think maybe a ball tool. Something like this: DIY Cake tools, AmyTalk 4Pcs Metal Ball Baking Fondant Cake Tools Stainless Steel 8 Head Pen for Sugar Flower https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DPBNSD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NX40N1T21T33VNAX86EZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Order your round cakes (6 & 8 inch, 8 & 10 inch, or whatever sizes you need) and place them on a tiered cake stand like the one linked below. Top can be another small cake, a floral display, topper, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XPTFNU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_NZ260C6221XC2DZ3GK9K
For moist cake I replace 2 Tablespoons of butter with 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil. And if you ever want your hobby baking to blow people away, go on Amazon or youtube how to make "baking strips." Its like a wet oven mitt that wraps around your pan and regulates heat dispersion. Softest, fluffiest, most even (no bubble top) cake you will ever make. This is a much better alternative to simple syrup as it will give you moist cake through out, not just on top of the layers. It looks lovely btw. It looks like the flavor was really there! Great job. https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Bake-Even-Prevents-Professional-Decorating/dp/B00C1LU7HW?th=1
I made a Barbie cake for a party, and needed more cake. So I put dowels in the bottom cake cut flush, then the second cake I had on a cut-to-fit cake board. At cake cutting, I simply found the base for the top cake and removed it with a cake lifter then cut.
I’m so glad you like! The honeycomb molds were bought on Amazon and if you go to Michael’s, Joanns, or even Walmart...you should be able to find yellow colored candy melts! Just temper it in the microwave, pour in the molds, and allow to freeze! They come out perfectly each time! Here’s the link! 2Pcs Honeycomb Fondant Molds Bee... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YZD1G62?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share happy baking! ❤️❤️😊
Wow, 300! Must be a lot of piping tips? I’m still very much a beginner but I bought this set on Amazon and it’s been very useful.
I got this on Amazon and just mixed it with a little vodka🤗 First time using it and I love it!
Gold Highlighter Luxury Cake Dust, 5 grams, USA Made https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FN7H556/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_MVBRPWHG37W5HPX95PZ0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks! I used the Ateco tip#796, you can get it on Amazon. It takes a bit of practice to get used to it but I'm happy with the result 😊
This is the set I have and it’s awesome. Basically plastic, cheaper version of what you linked but it works great and has everything I need. The extras in the more expensive set you’re looking at are nothing I personally would use.
Kootek Cake Decorating Kits Supplies with Cake Turntable, 12 Numbered Cake Decorating Tips, 2 Icing Spatula, 3 Icing Smoother, 2 Silicone Piping Bag, 50 Disposable Pastry Bags and 1 Coupler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7M898T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_vX6cGb89CBNMG
Never heard of “kootek” before 😂 but it’s quality stuff. The turntable is very necessary to ice cakes properly.
Is it useful to have a turntable or those long spatula things?
RN I'm looking at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PXWCPS1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3EC7BCY4V8OZM&psc=1 but to be totally honest they all look the same
This book is what got me started decorating! I highly recommend it! Start off with getting her this book, and then take a look for yourself at the book to settle on what tools to get her depending on what you think she might do. From my experience: Some piping bags and a small set of piping tips are all you need to get started. That's what I started with (before I got that book). I think a cake leveler and cake lifter were the next things I got to be able to do layered cakes. Then I started getting specialized tools for fondant to add more impressive looking detail to my cakes.
I love Wilton for decorating stuff. I'd start with one of their kits like this because you get all the useful pieces. This, plus a decorating book to help figure out which tip does what, plus maybe some nice reusable piping bags and a big scraper and spinning stand for smoothing cakes.
Haha! This cocoa powder is from Amazon. It’s like what’s used in Oreos. I used maybe a tsp of black gel for the whole batch but probably didn’t need to. I wouldn’t do a vanilla buttercream in black. Only chocolate.
Thank you for asking this! I am currently in your same boat and looking for something to keep my decorating supplies contained but still portable. I also feel that the Wilton storage solutions are lacking and I've never been thrilled with their quality (of storage, not actual decorating items). Right now I am looking at something like this on Amazon but I would really like additional ideas!
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B003JKL0WU/?coliid=I155R5GQZ5MM1A&colid=2UNRQFZNHIZ6T&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it_im
The problem is you need space for lots of little things, like tips and couplers, but also for much larger things, like spatulas and turntables, but without just being a large tote. I think I'm putting way too much thought into it, but just know that you're not alone!
I don’t personally have a Wilton 6B but I’ve found these to be useful for adapting different sized tips to a regular sized coupler. It would also allow you to remove the tip to use with other colors, though you’d need multiple sets.
I use this one, but I’ve heard mixed reviews on it. It works well for me (although it does act weird when trying to turn it on, but once it’s on it’s good), https://www.amazon.com/AAXA-Technologies-KP-101-01-Projector-built/dp/B005TAXDPK
Thank you! I found the molds on Amazon. They worked really well - the silicone was soft and made it easy to unmold the shells.
bought this one 4 years ago. no regrets. still turns like a dream and doesnt wobble. you might want to stick a little drawer liner (the rubber netting stuff) to keep your board from sliding around. and if you need to do larger than a 12" just flip your cake tin upside down over the turner and youre good to go.
yeah. theres a company on amazon that sells edible cartridges for regular canon printers. you need a certain model and it cant have run regular ink before (cause its toxic and theres no number of cleaning cycles that will get it all out). the edible ink clogs alot if you dont run a cleaning cycle when youre done printing for the day. the rice paper prints best with this method but you can do the full sugar paper. and you have to have the printer configured to photo paper so it saturated the darks enough (otherwise theyll look green).
I’ve used them in the past- aren’t they identical to the cake dowels? Similar to these-

If i were you I would get a sports cake pan and then use buttercream to sculpt.

Hi! It’s actually from this cookbook which I got for my wife when she started cake making!
That’s the kit. I’ll see if I can pull up a picture. But I also got her a couple easy books like this:
I’ll try to find a picture
Your local library might have the book in the children's section.
Symphony Wire Tips, Stainless Steel Icing Piping Nozzles For Pastry Fondant Tools (Grass) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PNDSH8R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_Y4XATBFSTRQXP3HQM8J6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I used 234 in this set!
No recipe needed! I use flavorings instead of vanilla.
Glazed Donut Concentrated Flavoring https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JFCCHQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_9JE9B7RYKMS74WM3QKZE
There’s all kinds of flavors out there that work great in frostings.
It will be such a game changer you will be so happy!! This is the one I got, I cut out an 8” circle of that grippy stuff that people line their cupboards with (I don’t know what it’s called lol, always find rolls of it at thrift stores) and secure it with double sided tape. Help to keep your cake board from slipping while your scraping and icing

Get the heavy metal turntable. This is the one I got, really solid: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCBDUUO/
A set of Americolor brand gel colors
If she does cookies, a flat pack of 200 parchment sheets: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08M44G72B/
If she bakes cakes, pre-cut parchment rounds in 8” and 9” sizes
Got a KitchenAid mixer? Buy an extra bowl and paddle. Or a plastic cover for the bowl (keeps dust out between bakes)
Large size OXO POP canisters for flour/sugar.
Rolls of Ateco disposable piping bags (so handy)
Top-shelf ingredients like Guittard Cocoa Rouge
Two sets of measuring spoons, three or four Di Oro silicon spatulas
It totally reminded me of the photos in this book. I used to get to pick my birthday cake from here and always picked some pinuche castle
Thank youu! I ordered this one from Amazon:

Sprinkles | Frozen in Sugar... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWB5JRH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Thank you so much. I buy the cake mix and I add things to it. For this birthday I added cinnamon for his joints and honey for his stomach. I buy the cake mixes online and for the Birthday Flavored mix, you can buy it here. I promise it's a safe link. Just wasn't sure if I am allowed to post it here. I buy the mix but alter it a lot depending on how he is feeling.
I honestly love the Wilton cake decorating beginner’s kit, and get an off brand turntable, you’ll be set to go. You can get all kinds of kits off of Amazon, but I’ve found the tips they come with are non-standard and very small. Wilton Deluxe Cake Decorating Kit with Piping Tips and Pastry Bags, 46-Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IE6ZB1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S58CAYDBRQ0FAMTBF684

https://www.amazon.com/Colour-Mill-Oil-Based-Coloring-Milliliters/dp/B08RJZ13VD
Purple is one of my favorite colors. That's how I noticed.
The long kind of sprinkles in brown could work too! The more saturated color would look less natural, but would be a nice bold contrast with the bright decorations. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TYKX6K2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S4JGNYF7PDPX3ZCEBQYE
Actually, I use Bake Even Strips so the cake layers bake flat and there is no dome to cut off.
You dont really need a turn table , which is probably the most expensive thing. Why dont you use that 20$ to buy a set of good wilton piping tips and a pack of disposable piping bags. Like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wilton-Taught-Myself-Buttercream-Flowers/dp/B071YLX5HW/ref=asc_df_B071YLX5HW/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=205240514527&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18403564475148402081&hvpone=&hvptwo=&h...
Never tried then but was suggested in a cake decorating class. https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Bake-Even-Strips-Evenly-2-Piece/dp/B00C1LU7HW/ref=asc_df_B00C1LU7HW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=194938015190&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11138554037135461057&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&am...
Hi, yes they are piped, but the tip doesn’t have a number on it. These are the tips I bought on Amazon
I’m right handed, and I use the one that’s slightly curved out the the left. Not the largest one either
I googled extra wide acetate roll.
I was taught to put as little non-food items in children's cakes as possible. For example, when possible use pretzel sticks instead of skewers so a child doesn't grab a decoration, try and monch into it, and hurt themselves
Edit: if pretzel sticks aren't useful maybe something like a candy stick like these: (it'll be a hard monch but at least it's made to monch and won't harm their mouths as much as a skewer would) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08TGJPPK1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RFE2VF6XNFSFTP8J82ES
Somewhat! I used this stuff: LorAnn Cotton Candy Super Strength Flavor, 1 ounce bottle https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000FRXI66/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FF8DQFFXBET592WPCSQR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 It’s more fruity than cotton candy but it is very sweet.
I would use a Russian piping tip. The one on the top row in the middle
If you want metallic, your best option is to apply luster paint (luster dust and enough Everclear to make a thin paint) after the drip is dry. It's nearly impossible to dye something metallic, I've always felt luster paint was the way to go.
These ones I got on amazon, here’s the link
OP, just a suggestion: next time you could use banana chips as the decor (like these). They don’t brown and could add an interesting crunch. But other than that, it looks amazing! I adore the combination of chocolate and bananas. Nutella and bananas are awesome too... anyway, I wish I could have a piece of your cake!
You might be able to find them if you have a Michaels craft store near you. I don’t think Sweet Tooth Fairy sells the Crushed Leaves blend elsewhere (Michaels has them on their website but doesn’t ship them for some reason), but the thick leaf sprinkles came from a Wilton mix that can still be found online:
https://www.amazon.com/Food-Items-Sprinkle-Autumn-Cell/dp/B08C6F9X2H
I looked at them again, and I realize that they are meant to press cookies or biscuits onto a flat surface, that's why you would just press straight down on that big handle.
I've decided to go with THIS one, ($16 on Ebay? I think) and also grab one of those add-on icing tip sets with like 90 pcs of different tips. Thanks for your input though!!
Amazon has several if you search "stainless steel icing gun". Some are a combination of steel and plastic. Several are cookie guns that have a few icing tips as well as the cookie plates.
This one seems to be all metal and has the most icing tips:
Disclaimer: I've tried none of these so have no idea what the quality is with them.
Thanks! I use a fondant extruder, it comes with different circle sizes, this was made using the largest size. here's the amazon link!
Dear, your question is not dumb. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have.
I use different brads, like Wilton Gel Food Colors, AmeriColor gel colors, Alan Tetreault and edible dust. If you have never painted on cakes before, you should practice on a piece of fondant first to get some skills. Color gel dries quickly, so mix a little bit at a time and add water or vodka as necessary to keep the paint colors consistent. Painting using dust is different and you dont need any liquids, unless you are trying to get realistic gold, bronze or silver color. Brushes you use is very important. For background soft colors I use make up large brushes. As for tiny details, I bought a set of brushes on Amazon. I would recommend you to watch some video tutorials for beginners on youtube and practice untill you are satisfied with your final result.
I'm starting my youtube channel with videos of my handpainting process, but it's gonna be time lapse. If I get many watchers asking for tutorial, I will make it
Where do you live?
I just found the kit on amazon, looks like the silicone rings are bag ties and the thing on the left is to stabilize your piping bag while you write!
Yes, they are round polystyrene or styrofoam pieces that are about 3”-4” tall and available in different diameters. Not sure if there is a difference between polystyrene and styrofoam.
I got mine through a bakery supply catalog, but you might be able to find one at a hobby supply shop that sells cake decorating items.
The frosting doesn’t really sink in. The pores on the surface might have frosting settle in them when you smooth it, but they are very easy to clean. I would practice a bunch of times with the same bowl of frosting (apply, smooth, freeze, perfect, border, decorate, scrape off and repeat) and then remove everything from the cake dummy and would save the frosting to practice with again (if the consistency was still viable) and wash the cake dummy.
The frosting will come off the cake dummy with hot water, soap, and very gentle sponge wash, or pop it in the dishwasher. Mine went thru the dishwasher many many times!
EDIT: Example of one from Amazon:
8" Round Cake Dummy 3" High https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083557XTB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0LlLFb7VB1BN6
Yes :) A silicone mat like this: Lace Fondant Mat https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017M1VOVS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8KBIFbMHDYNH5
And then I used this product to make the lace: Madame Loulou Ready-to-use, edible cake lace - 284g (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085FRWVBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xMBIFbH80EF2P
And then painted it with edible gold luster dust mixed with Everclear :)
I used Americolor’s Electric kit. The water ganache was very easy to color. The frosting I had more difficulty with. I ended up using a technique from this recipe to achieve the color for the frosting splatter
It didn't, it tastes just like the cookie part of oreo cookies! I used this recipe but skipped the coloring part and it looked dark enough:
1lb butter, whipped with stand mixer paddle until fluffy
1/2 c heavy cream + 1 tbsp vanilla extract, mixed in until incorporated
2 lbs confectioners sugar + 150g black dutched cocoa sifted together, added gradually with mixer on low speed until fully incorporated
Note, this is the cocoa I used - https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00K89SKKK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XiPAFbSNPCAX7

Can you not order from amazon? Kootek Aluminium Alloy Revolving Cake Stand 12 Inch Rotating Cake Turntable for Cake, Cupcake Decorating Supplies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z7XMQP4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gf-tFbBNP4K9K
For the chocolate cake and cupcakes: https://addapinch.com/chocolate-cupcakes-recipe/
I made a double batch and got 24 cupcakes and 3 four inch round cake layers (1/2 cup scoop of batter into each cake pan). I also used whipping cream instead of milk, and black cocoa instead of regular. Black cocoa can be found online at Amazon.
For the Oreo buttercream: 2 1/2 cups (5 sticks) unsalted butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2-2/3 cup whipping cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and Oreos crushed as fine as I could get them in a ziplock back using a rolling pin. I crushed 15 and put almost all of it in my buttercream. I left out only a small amount to put on the top of my mini cake. The piping tip I used is Wilton 8B French tip. The happy birthday cake topper came from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Topper-Acrylic-Birthday-Decoration-Supplies/dp/B07Q8YFVP3/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=happy+birthday+cake+topper+pack+of+5+gold&qid=1598291059&sr=8-4
I prefer to use a food coloring set like this one or this one when mixing my own colors. The Wilton set isn’t the most economical, but there are a lot of options on Amazon.
I used the Wilton gel food coloring for years, and I will never go back to it again. The drops allow you to make colors using a color guide, and to have control of the colors. The gel is goopy, hard to measure out, and gets everywhere.
You can go on amazon and Walmart and search up piping tip kits and you can get a good set like this one that I’m going to link for you which has almost everything in it. Make sure you get a turn table and a cake scraper too!!! I get most of my supplies from Wilton! I love their stuff. Also, make sure you follow their social media accounts and go onto their website. They have a lot of “how to” videos on decorating, buttercream, etc.

Thanks so much!
And yes! The cake disc helps SO, SO much. I'd say it's the biggest helper in getting super smooth sides. I got mine off of Amazon, here. I have both the 8.25" and the 8.5" ones for 8 inch cakes, but I'd say unless you like a very thick layer of frosting around the outside, to for the 8.25" version.
In terms of using it, my process goes: crumb coat cake and let set up in fridge for 20ish minutes. Put on acrylic disc and put a frosting layer on the cake (as thick as the disc allows), then smooth the sides, using the disc as your guide. Then, leaving the disc on, back in the fridge for another 20 if you're going to be adding different frosting decorations on the cake like the one in my picture, otherwise you can take the disc off (run a paring knife under the disc and it should pop off), and then fill in and smooth the top. Super, super easy, and makes it so that you really can't smooth off too much icing; I would highly recommend getting one if you're having trouble with uneven sides, as it was a total game changer for me.
Thank you! I got this edible paint from amazon, not real metallic gold color, but it's good enough for writing. P.S. I would not suggest to paint on a large area as it taste yucky!
Thank you!
I bought the fat Daddio celebration set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L9CQV2O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PkdYCb6K3CV00
What I really like about the set is that it only needs half the batter of my usual cake baking, or the same amount as one dozen cupcakes.
Very cute. If you plan on decorating anymore, may I suggest these: https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Color-Right-Performance-Coloring/dp/B00TO3DOEI/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1532551671&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=gel+food+coloring&psc=1
I prefer americolor (also on amazon) but these are a bit cheaper. Regardless...these last forever and you only need a couple of drops to get intense color (which is great since the liquid ones from the grocery store tend to dilute icing...high pigment gel like these are always better). And they blend wonderfully to get your own unique colors.
Thanks so much!
I use these mini pans which helps making even layers that you don’t have to cut. Just don’t over fill the pans. It is easy to do because they are pretty tiny. One batch of batter usually will make 6 layers. I added chocolate chips to this red velvet batter so I easily filled 7.
Wilton 2105-0112 Easy Layers! 5-Piece Cake Pan Set, 6-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4JCHRE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ziPmBb9D1VCCK
I've experienced similar pains as well from piping all day. I think it was just a big shock to my hands from straining all day. So I found these "therapy balls" that help strengthen your hand muscles and help promote blood flow which helps a lot. heres a link:https://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Restore-Hand-Therapy-Exercise/dp/B00525X8KW I also would ice my hands a bit with a little massage after work to be able to rest up for the next day.
this rolling pin is ideal. The mat is to stop the fondant sticking to the work surface and to help you lift the rolled fondant onto the cake!
This is the one I used. http://www.amazon.com/WWE-Basic-Figure-45-The/dp/B00RX9SYRW?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
He was cheap, didn't have a beard and I felt like the black armbands wouldn't be a problem. Also since I didn't have a doll cake pan he fit perfectly into half a 6 inch diameter ball pan on top of a 6 inch round.
I am by no means a cake decorating expert, but I do have a nifty little tool that literally punches out these kind of flowers in four different sizes. I'm not sure where you're located but here is the basic version of it! I generally roll out some store bought rolled icing like this. It's not the most delicious thing in the world but it's edible! You can also buy edible glue and things like that if they needed some encouragement to stick to the cake. I think your choice of cake is beautiful - very simple and elegant. I'm sure you'll ace it. :)
Hi Amy, thanks a lot this is really helpful info! I have picked up a lot of what you said. I was hoping I could get something like this, my main worry was buying something that would end up not actually being any good.
If I may pick your brains further, would something like this be useful or am I better off sticking to traditional piping bags? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Master-Deluxe-Stainless-Biscuit-Pieces/dp/B00018GJ06/ref=pd_cp_kh_0
