Curious - did they prescribe any appetite stimulants or anti-nausea meds? This happened to my cat and that’s what got her back to eating normal. Also, baby food (i got Gerber chicken with gravy - make sure to check the ingredients for no onion/tomato/etc - just chicken and water and I think it also has corn starch) was all she wanted to eat at first. My vet recommended that. It’s not nutritionally complete but is really easy on the stomach, so is a good way to get calories in.
Edit: Amazon link to gerber chicken with gravy: https://www.amazon.com/Gerber-Foods-Meats-Chicken-Gravy-2-5-Oz-24/dp/B01N7RY9KD/ref=asc_df_B01N7RY9KD/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310135323596&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1923214165793524020&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=...
The back of this Greenies (for hairballs) says you can feed it to them as a meal, 2/3 to 3/4 cup per 10 pounds. If done as a treat, reduce the regular dry food by an approximately similar amount as what you give them in treats. The hairball ones says ~18 treats per day per 10 pounds, if using as a supplement to your cats hairball diet.
15-20 doesn't seem like that bad. I have a relatively big cat (~14 pounds), but my vet says he's only on the higher end of a normal, healthy weight. One "trick" I've been taught on how to check for overweightness is to check their spine. If you can feel it, then they are good. But if the spine starts getting "covered" with a lot of fat, then you should be careful. Here's a link to that video (this guy has a lot of great videos too).
Also, what an adorable cat. :)
they are eating too much. that bag should last at least 2 months for 3 cats. you definitely need to upgrade. take a look at Purina Naturals cat food at Walmart or Amazon. if you can afford a little more, look at Pure Balance or Rachael Ray Nutrish cat food, also at Walmart.
I like these Booda Scoop types of holders, but they scoops only come in plastic and plastic doesn’t work for me. Too flimsy and porous. Unfortunately this metal scoop is too wide to fit into the Booda holder.
I’ve been using an empty cascade pod bucket for now but would like something that looks nicer and is cleaner (can catch al the little litter bits that may fall into the container)
> I also just sit at the gate and let everyone come up to each other, say hellos, hoop, hiss whatever and help them get it out of their system.
Ah, so this is allowed. Thank you. Sometimes they just stare and do nothing for a while and I'm wondering, is this ok or not. I'm relatively a pet owner newbie.
You are right though, I should get a toy they can share. They both kinda go nuts over this wire toy, we just haven't shared it with them over the gate yet:
So when should I open the gate and let them be in each others' space at the same time, at a meal time, or a play time?
I also need to make sure both have their nails trimmed. Both are hard to trim so I may try a burrito wrap method I saw on youtube. Doing what I can! :D
My old cat used to make a total mess of his litter (it was a similar consistency to yours, I think) and after I switched to the Purina Breeze system, it was like night and day. I know I sound like a total shill but I am so serious it honestly improved my quality of life lol, the tracking is nonexistent and I scoop the litter once every couple days/change the pee pad maybe once a week, it’s just so low effort and the cats don’t seem to mind it at all.
My new kitten likes to play pellet soccer and kick/chase the occasional stray pellet around the hardwood, which is a whole different issue, but honestly I will take that any day over finding the nasty gravelly stuff ground into carpet.
It also has no odor compared to the pine pellets the kitten came home with (those were so bad!!), which is really nice considering we live in an apartment and have limited space as far as litter box placement.
Look for something like Enercal, it's a high-calorie emergency food. You smear it on them (like a paw) and they eat it while licking it off. A small amount has enough calories for a day.
You should be able to find something like this at a local pet store or online if convenient.
https://www.amazon.com/Enercal-High-Calorie-Nutritional-Supplement/dp/B00BUUIR2C
What are you using as an appetite stimulant? We use Mirtazapine but it is awful in pill form. It tastes so bad it causes excessive salivation and vomiting. They make a transdermal formula called Mirataz that you just smear a small dab onto the inside of their ear and you get the same benefit without the negative reactions.
Awesome to hear! Yeah, that's why I never do that. My cats have a traumatic response to just the yearly vet visits. So we just brush and comb, and get knots while they are still small. Bathing we simply don't do. I've bathed my cats maybe 2-3 times each in their entire lives, and it was because of diarrhea/puke in their fur or whatever. Otherwise they do a good job themselves. As for nails, scratching posts scratching posts scratching posts. And not the crappy ones that tip over. A big one they can fully stretch out on and really dig into like a tree. I swear by these SmartCat ones. They are on Amazon or at Petcos I believe. I have 3, one in each of our main living areas. They love these things, see shedded nails all around the thing. It's a quasi natural way for them to take of their own nails.
Glad kitty is alright though! :)
it looks like it to me. my cat had ringworm in the same exact spot and it looked just like that. however, im not a doctor or vet.
i used this
i put some on a tissue and wiped the spot a few times a day. its important to treat it fast as its very contagious. (i got it from my cat!) id say that its better to be safe than sorry & to try a cat friendly antifungal out to see if it helps
I also live in a small one bedroom with my boyfriend and we have two cats! We bought two litter boxes, which are this and this
My cats like the top entry one for privacy and I like that it comes with a scoop. The other one (I recommend getting an x-large size) is simple and they use it for pee usually. I clean the litter box once or twice a day (sometimes more, I like scooping out litter after they poo) and I bought a small metal trash can for the litter. In the litter trash can, I line it with multiple trash bags, with each trash bag filled with a small amount of baking soda to help mask the smell. And everyday at night before I go to sleep, I throw out the litter-filled trash bag. Keeping the litter in the trash can for more than one day makes it extremely smelly, and can develop a fly problem.
Overall, there's no bad smell! Just clean after your kitty and you'll be good!
I got one that was sold as a cat nail trimmer vs a dog/pet general one, its smallish and red and was like 5-6€
Something like this basically but on red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DK09G?tag=catlt-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
Maybe look for a cat specific one or talk to amazon, maybe it was defective? Its very weird its not working
I don't have this model so I can't help. But perhaps you could ask your question on the Amazon page for the product: https://www.amazon.com/Petmate-Deluxe-Fresh-Water-Fountain/dp/B0002DI3TK?th=1
There are often manufacturer's reps answering the questions that buyers pose, and you also could do a search of the questions to see if there's anyone else who had the problem and solved it.
Hill's s/d is the short-term food to dissolve the crystals she already has and c/d is the long-term food to help prevent crystals from forming. C/d comes in both wet and dry prescription food, however, I just checked the ingredients and there is fish oil in all of Hill's urinary care versions.
There will always be opponents of feeding prescription diets. However, there are also plenty of owners who say it has been successful for their cats. You could also look into feeding a raw diet to avoid fish altogether.
As far as fountains go, some cats take to them right away and others just don't. I have tried about 5 different ones, and found a Veken brand to work best for my cats drinking style.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CB16XDC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_14YYETMR8FMQXX1AJB31
I'm in the same situation. Older cat, he eats and drinks just fine, plays like crazy, but he's losing weight. I am having some luck with this stuff. I have to mix it in with wet food though because he doesn't like the taste of it on its own. I also heard that kitten food is calorically dense and can help with this as well. I'm going to pick some up at Petco this week. I hope this helps. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KJ9Z2LY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_01ZQ73QP0H3DJ4SKY4B8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have this set up too and I really like it. Lately it’s been smelling a lot more like ammonia so I’m wondering if the pellets are slightly different than what I was getting before (I use kiln-fired pine pellets for horse bedding at a farm store). Anyways, I recently bought this and I think it might be my solution...it’s only been a day lol so time will tell but so far the smell is not noticeable around the room the cat box is in! Also having a lid helps a lot
My long haired old man cat struggled a lot with these especially as his arthritis worsened. A furminator helps keep on top of it once you remove the mats, but getting the mats out takes a little extra care.
I'm a hairstylist so I got creative and used the same methods i use to remove mats for humans - thinning shears. You dont need anything fancy, just a nice basic sharp pair like these. Just snip directly into the middle of the mat with them (be careful not to cut too close to the skin), then gently comb. You may need to snip it a couple of times, but it should loosen things up enough to brush out the mats without causing pain or too much fur loss.
Why has you had trouble finding wire tubing (sheaths)?
Here is a brand that we use.
Additional advice - more interactive play. This means you + a wand toy.
Do multiple intense sessions a day. Short of any heart issues, goal is to get kitten panting and plopping on the floor at the end of each session, then offer a treat (or meal).
Da Bird and Da Cat Catcher are great toys for this sort of play.
Also look for dental/chew toys. Pet Stages has a dental line for cats/kittens.
Silvervine sticks under supervision may also work (he may not be into them for a few more months at this age, but some kittens enjoy them regardless).
You can also use chew toys meant for very small puppies/dog breeds.
Adding some bitter apple spray never hurts, but a lot of cats/kittens aren’t particularly sensitive to it, so it may not be sufficient as a sole deterrent.
I've had several females and was never advised to confine them after a spay surgery. You only need to confine her if the jumping is excessive and causing the suture site to have stress in healing. Is the wound itself looking irritated, red, swollen, seeping, did a stitch fall off? If even isolated in a small room causes enough movement for the healing process to slow, you might want to get a large pet crate that is big enough to house a ltterbox and water and food dish till she is healed.
Elizabethan collars only have to be used if you see that your cat is trying to groom the incision site. If she is and the collar won't work you might try an aftercare surgical recovery suit. You'll want to get more than one to make sure to keep them clean. Keep in mind that your cat can't groom itself while wearing the suit so you'll want to take some time out each day to comb her fur because whenever a cat wears clothes like this, the fur underneath is matting up.
Almost definitely a tick! At the pet aisle of my local grocery store, they sell this tiny little green... thing to quickly and easily remove them. My cat is so patient when we use it, it takes maybe half a second, and it was pretty cheap! Here's a link to it on amazon.
Look up 'pill shooter' on Amazon. It takes your finger out of the equation of forcing a pill. I scruff them really hard and push the tip of the shooter down their throat as far as I can and pop the pill out. It's only about $6 so it may be worth a try. I use this for my personal cats and foster kittens and has been a lifesaver. Link: Pet Piller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ZAG84/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_t9tPBb6S2DFRM
I buy flea meds for my cats from amazon for less than $30. It would be the best way to get rid of the fleas. If you want it, here’s the link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LWLTXVS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yC62Bb7ZKA0RZ
I haven't tried those brands, but tiki cat was great for any of our sicker kitties that needed more calories or just picky kitties. There is also a calorie paste that you can add to food to help add calories.
I've done this with many cats, and I've never had them reject a good with it, if it was a food they normally liked. We foster special needs cats, so I've seen a range of needs and requirements. Good luck with your fur baby.
I would get a litter mat! I have this one I would get the extra large size to cover a good, large area around the litter box. It helps with tracking alot.
You have two main options here for administering the medication, one of which (compounding) was mentioned by u/5261. Your other option of trying to administer the pill is using a pill dispenser which can be bought for cheap from Amazon or pretty much any pet store.
As for the peeing issue, litter box problems are some of the most difficult to address because the cat gets into the habit of peeing outside the box and also can still smell the pee where they've gone before. Make sure to use an enzyme cleaner and when you think the pee has been cleaned up thoroughly - clean the area again! Make sure your clay litter is unscented and dust free, and the litter boxes are open, large, and easily accessible but somewhat private. This will simulate a natural situation as closely as possible. Place the litter boxes near common "pee spots". I also suggest getting several Feliway dispensers to place around your house to release hormones that will reduce anxiety and encourage litter box use.
Search cat water fountain. There are many different ones but I like this one, and two people I cat sit for have it. No reflection and it’s like drinking from a sink. Sorry I don’t know how to shorten the the link
If you're reasonably certain it's tapeworm (Google images) and you're in the U.S., there's a cost-effective, over-the-counter option at Amazon that can be helpful. Note this only works on tapeworms. If your cat has anything else such as hookworms or roundworms, you'll need to see a vet (my recollection is that treatment for these aren't expensive).
Okay im back! It wasn’t a powder, it was actually these drops right here. https://www.chewy.com/homeopet-uti-homeopathic-medicine/dp/138099
I wish I could tell you which remedy it was that worked—or if it was all of them combined—but this is everything we have used!!
One of my cats would sometimes have greenish to blue urine, and when i brought him to the vet they said sometimes pH tests can be a false positive (similarly, she has seen false negatives). Not saying this is what is going on with tour cat of course, but that’s been my experience. I bought them some kidney supplements (Alfa Pet Natural Kidney Support... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S3XRL6Z?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And Cat and Dog Kidney Support,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H41Y3ZB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share , but i think either one alone works), and that seems to have mostly fixed the urine pH issue. YMMV of course, but that was my experience.
For cats it’s been recommended to have two litter boxes per cat. I have 2 cats and 4 litter boxes. I clean every 2-3 days, and I could probably go longer before their boxes get full. They kind of designate their own litter boxes for where they defecate and urinate.
I use these litter boxes: kathson Large Foldable Cat Litter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FJRG1NS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
IRIS USA Top Entry Cat Litter Box... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076YV3P7K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Chewy.com sells only pet related products, so if you search air fresheners there they should be safe (unless your cats eat wax). Personally I leave open containers of baking soda near the boxes, use gel air fresheners like this (doesn't have to be the pet scent, and you can get them at any supermarket), or get other charcoal/baking soda based odor absorbers.
My house smell also improved when I switched entirely to boxes with lids.
Try to see if your vet is okay with you using the oxbow critical carnivore care supplement, much better than a calorie gel and worked with getting my cat to a healthy weight. I fed her tiki cat wet food and this supplement only. I prefer this supplement over a calorie gel as it is nutritionally complete and won’t cause any issues with nutrient ratios and the like. (Nutrient requirements are based on calories, if your cat gets too much calories but not enough nutrients (regarding the calories) then your cat will have nutrient deficiencies.) It was pretty pricey though as I had to use a lot (not a very dense supplement), buy a small amount and see if your cat likes it.
My other cat has no health issues, he for some reason though only licked the gravy. I had a few solutions,
All sorta worked except for buying pate style food, he absolutely hated that and hand feeding, where he would eat most of the meat but refuse to lick the gravy after he was full and he wouldn’t lick the gravy then eat the meat from my hand for some reason. He didn’t mind tiki cat mousse but only if I fed it to him from the pouch like a treat.
Yeah live animal trap and put her in a room?
I used this on a cat and while it didn't clear up his cold, it cut his congestion and boogers by like 95% very quickly. https://www.amazon.com/HomeoPet-Natural-Medicine-Sinus-Tract-Milliliters/dp/B00YND4R4K
Maybe live animal trap, several treatments, and ideally she'll eat on her own after?
To echo what others are saying, get her to a vet pronto. Considering that this is a change in her behavior, and considering her age, something serious could be wrong.
But to add another perspective.... I have elderly cats, and one of them started peeing on my bed. She checked out fine at the vet. I think she does it just to show her annoyance with me when I'm gone for too long, or when I feed her something she doesn't love, or when I have to give her medicine (which she hates), etc. I bought a bunch of these and cover my bed with them, including pillows, whenever I'm not actually in the bed. She rarely pees on them now -- maybe they actually act as a deterrent -- but they work perfectly when she does pee on them. lol
Try these.
The kitten’s paw never touches the ink, just the plastic. I used these for my kitten’s paw prints and they came out great.
https://www.amazon.com/Curaseb-Chlorhexidine-Antifungal-Antibacterial-Veterinary/dp/B01JVSQY8I?th=1
I use this for things like that, just make sure they don't lick it off before it dries, but usually the vet has ointments that work better and faster.
you could put up something like a baby gate in front of the washer/dryer to keep them from getting behind them. they also make these bumpers for blocking off the areas under couches and beds.
i absolutely would not cage cats unless they are very tiny neonates who will hurt themselves if left unattended. you're just kicking the can down the road - once you let them out, theyll have all that pent up energy. cardboard scratch boxes like these are a hit with every cat ive tried them with, and they're inexpensive. Just sprinkle in a little catnip and they'll learn quickly.
Cat towers with multiple levels, kitty window seats, and suction cup bird feeders on the outside windows can provide them with lots of interest and stimulation.
Double sided tape temporarily placed on areas they scratch will help deter them and they'll eventually learn to avoid those areas.
I had a senior dog that had warts that looked like that. Some were small like the one in your picture, and she also had some big ones. They would bleed or ooze if she scratched them. My vet suggested using a bit of chlorhexidine on a cotton ball to keep it clean and prevent infection.
One is probably nothing to worry about. If you start seeing more pop up, it could be a problem with his immune system.
My cat doesn't love it because it's not loaded with sugary grains like other food, but Wellness Core is an excellent brand and may help with your cats overall health.
I'd also highly suggest a fountain waterer for your cat's fluid intake. The bubbling or constant motion will get your cat to drink a lot more.

Clipped nails will not look declawed no matter how short they are. Plus there will still be scratching. My friend had the same problem with her parents. They finally agreed to let her have a cat as long as she put nail caps on her. She changes them every three weeks.
Here’s the link to that one:

You can also clear out a dresser drawer as long as it’s safe for the cat to be inside. I have to do that because I have mostly carpeted floors.
I posted this on another thread but :
Looks like it could be some type of reaction to something that touched there (or bit) If not able to go to the vet immediately, try finding an tropical antiseptic cream or spray FOR CATS that can kill fungal and bacteria that could be there.
This is one Ive personally used for my cat until I’m able to go to a vet to make sure. I posted a picture on my profile of what was on mines and an update on it as of now. Not similar to what your baby has but it looks like a skin reaction.
Try to keep your hands clean and your area clean just in case. But if you’re able to get it looked at, definitely recommend to confirm it’s not anything internal.

What I would try if you have these available, is getting some freeze dried chicken treats, breaking one or two of them up into dust and mix it in or shake it over the gel in her food bowl. Idk if it would work or not but if my boy is ever picky about his food that always works for me, so maybe it'd work with that gel.
This the brand I have. They're chunks of chicken breast freeze dried and the break up really easily.

Get a litter mat - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B017C17NCW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
clean your litter more often cuz if litter is travling its cuz your cats stepping in its own urine taking that with um under their back legs. And there as we know can come some irritation cuz our cats dont like us touching their back legs. So get a larger litter box like a tupperware and some clump ana scope sifter and realize if the cat is bringing the litter around is cuz we aint doing our part.

Youll love the new pellet style cat litter. You have to use less, it deodorizes sooo much better and is biodegradable unlike clay litter. You can even mix it with regular litter. It looks green/ brown like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C4KVL1V/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_i_SPPJSBHYARNWWH8MAECK
Ive seen bags for 5 dollars at ralphs
my cat is naturally on the calmer side.. but when he freaks out during car rides we spray his crate with an anti-stress spray! it seemed to work well, and he even fell asleep lol. here’s the link to the one we use :)
This isn't the exact one I have (I can't find it because I bought it a while ago) but I have one similar to this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EGUWC0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1SKJX6GKMY9Z7W1R9D3V
I got it because it was the largest size that would fit in the spot in the bathroom AND most importantly it has a clear lid. I didn't want to get an enclosed litter because cats often don't like them because they feel trapped. They instinctively feel vulnerable while going to the bathroom so often prefer an open area. But one of my cats was spraying and the high sides of my open box wasn't blocking the spray. So I got one like this and I've never had a problem with them not using it.
If you do want to try some, I think petco and/or petsmart have a pretty lenient return policy if your pet doesn't like something. I've never tried it but I've heard they'll take back open food so maybe they'd take a used litter?
I'm sorry to hear about your boy!
I would suggest having multiple litter boxes. Definitely keep an extra one in the basement. Maybe put one in the porch. And a couple of others in the house. I know it's not ideal, but that will help in case he can't make it to the potty. I had to do this with my sister's cat who also had thyroid issues. The more options, the better! And now that y'all are in the habit of scooping them daily, it is actually really easy to clean several of them all at once. (I have 3 for one cat.)
You can get a large, vinyl table cloth to put down under the box and pee pads. This will help with the overflow. It's cheap, easy to clean, and easy to replace.
I'm sure you've tried many cleaning products, but I've found this one to work really well for cat pee.
I have a longhaired 20 year old cat-
Because of his age he's very creaky and I have to be gentle- a brush is too hard for every day grooming, and I needed something flexible that I could mould around his body. I bought a pair of these
and he really enjoys being groomed with them.
Nah, your cat is doing this because she doesn't think y'all are competent hunters. This is her way of putting food on the table!
But in all seriousness, cats have a high prey drive. Sometimes they will eat their prey, other times they won't - generally the latter is the case when they are well fed at home.
What I would be worried about the most are making sure she is on de-wormer and pest prevention. I generally recommend Revolution (it's prescription only). It takes care of fleas, ticks, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms, and heartworms. It is the best thing you can give her all around.
The only other worry I would have is if someone is using rat poison. The rat/mouse eats the poison and it can be passed onto the kitty.
Start with a good hepa filter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007E7RY/
That's a real good bang for your buck. The medium setting is a nice balance between noise and performance. You could also get a humidifier along with it. I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/AIRCARE-Evaporative-Humidifier-Adjustable-4-75-Gallon/dp/B07GZDLMMB
The combination of clearer air and proper humidity will help everyone in the house, especially at night when you sleep better.
I wish I had known to do this sooner. It wasn't until my cat was about 7 years old that I tried it and it drastically reduced his asthma attacks. I almost feel like it was abuse NOT to have gotten these things the moment we realized he was suffering.
If its cat Herpes for sure, I have two kitties with it. and we mix Lysine into their food.
you can get this powder for like 25 bucks on chewy https://www.chewy.com/vetoquinol-viralys-powder-immune/dp/102632
it comes in several types, powder, treats, oral paste, and jel
Then it is likely from rolling around in the dirt and grass. You can try wipes like this for your catto, but it'll come back.

BTW: My sister's cat looooved to roll around in the dirt. One night we called her in for dinner. After she ate, she had left a literal dirt ring around where she'd sat. That's why we called her dirty bird.
https://www.chewy.com/wee-wee-patch-replacement-grass-mat/dp/52780 i cut it so that it was a small patch in front of the box and stored the rest for later use. instant relief!! thought of you!! i think specifically having the grassy bits coming up (rather than flat turf) helps a lot. (i got it for $20 bc i use a new email every time i buy from chewy, i don’t think i would’ve paid more than that tho tbh)
Second this. Give them a place to scratch. Cats gotta scratch. And then try the double-sided tape or some of the other deterrents on the places you don't want them to scratch.
I got this super cute cactus scratcher that doesn't scream "cat furniture" like a lot of scratchers do.
I had a cat with hyperthyroidism - this is the first thing I thought. Op should check into this. It can be controlled with medication. We have had pretty good luck getting a cat to take pills with these:
https://www.amazon.com/Feline-Greenies-Pockets-Treats-Salmon/dp/B000JOE224
I've had better luck with Laxatone supplement for hairball issues and frequent vomiting, personally.
Its a tube of flavored gel similar to Catlax - I squeeze out a glob of about 1/2 tsp onto their paw and they lick it off so I know they've gotten the full dose.
Keeping humidifiers running this time of year can also help. I'm also a fan of Hydracare hydration packets (chewy is OOS right now but petsmart carries it as well in most areas) - it can help with the excessive thirst and digestive issues and help keep things moving. I do half a packet mixed with wet food and warm water morning and night, my 17 year old old lady loves it and its really helped stop her constipation/vomiting/hairball issues and keeps her well hydrated and eating well. The flavor is like cat crack too, the other cats have to get a little taste or they'll go nuts trying to eat her food.
It's rubber, my mistake. But, this is the exact one I use!
I use this one: https://www.chewy.com/smartcat-ultimate-32-in-sisal-cat/dp/49134
I have a giant Maine Coon that uses it as a platform to hop other places. I've had it for 2 years and it still looks new.
I have this one from chewy. https://www.chewy.com/frisco-335-in-sisal-cat-scratching/dp/190457?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Frisco&utm_term=&gclid=CjwKCAiA55mPBhBOEiwANmzoQiFrhOjCtQUn_0WQZwn91cwBYCxm-FNW-KC7TYutvAOJ... It's tall and has a heavy base. Both of my boys are long and heavy
And I used clippers on my MIL's cat because it's all she had. It's still not recommended. If you have small hands, these are quite nimble.
WRT the Dremel, you can look on Dremel's website at the specs for their rotary tools - the Pet Dremel has two speeds: 6,500 and 15,000 RPM. None of their rotary tools have a maximum speed that low; the cordless 7760 goes up to 85,000 but only down to 8,000 RPM.
So yes, objectively, the Pet Dremel is distinctly different from the standard Dremel rotary tool lineup.
I have a former stray/street cat who showed up on my doorstep and said he'd live here now -- it's been a struggle to give him enough to do indoors. Still a challenge, really... we even ultimately adopted two more kittens to get him some companionship.

These little mousies are probably his #1 most enjoyed item -- you put a little dry crunchy food in and hide them around (ideally changing up the spots over time).
Does Teddy have a window perch to look out of, or a cat tree to get up high?
Our guy is super food motivated, so we were able to train him pretty easily to use a cat wheel (www.onefastcat.com). Is it completely ridiculous and over the top? Yes. Does he primarily think of it as a way to get treats out of us? Yes. But he does get on it voluntarily and sometimes even sprints a bit to get some energy out.
Totally late but I order them online for my asthmatic cat.
Warning: I cannot guarantee the legality of this practice.
Basically, Canada has online pharmacies and drugs are more affordable in Canada. You submit a picture of the Rx and they fill it, shipping either a Canadian generic (more expensive) or a generic from Turkey (cheapest). The Turkish inhalers are branded as Flixotide and they are the exact same medication even manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, but just a different brand name.
It is possible to send the prescription to multiple pharmacies and build a stockpile of 4-5 inhalers twice a year since shipping can be slow.
The only mild annoyance with the Flixotide inhalers is that they are not metered. I order a counter from Amazon (like this) and click it myself each time we use it. Even though the inhaler is supposes to have 120 doses, I toss it after 100 just to be safe.
The pharmacies I’ve used without issues are: NorthWest Pharmacy Canada Drugs Online ABC Pet Meds (cheapest)
The inhalers run anywhere from $25-75 at these pharmacies. Much better than $300 at CVS.
And although pet insurance won’t cover the asthma now, I would recommend still getting it for any future disease that might occur.
Feel free to PM me or post here if you have any questions.
Fortiflora never really worked for us. But, there is a probiotic on amazon called Nexabiotic with Saccharomyces boulardii that is a yeast that is really helpful with diarrhea.
Source: Have former feral with explained diarrhea for months due to Giardia. We do that probiotic and a prescription diet to keep it under control.
Thanks!
Maybe will buy him this for the mornings or something similar:
That's interesting, one of my shirts (I presumed unwashed but not like dirty), so that it has a familiar scent, or some blankets. he has like a signature cushion we can put in a house if we get it for him.
I do suggest to try for a different vet. I have switched 5 and burned through a lot of money until I reached a competent one. Our cat also scratches through her cone so we just put 2 around her neck. These are the ones we use. Also, forgot to mention, we sometimes give our cat for longer periods of time immune system medicine. It helps, but not as much as we would like to. Maybe this is also somewhat useful for you.
This android app is also helpful, you should monitor your cat's breathing rate regularly. Resting/sleeping breathing rate should be between 20-30 breaths
Get a motion detector air sprayer. It sprays a stream of air when it's motion activated. My kitten used to get up on the counter every time we were at it and now he rarely tries after he got hit with air a couple times. You don't want to provide negative enforcement yourself because the cat will associate those bad things with you. Also a lot of scolding and stuff like that just doesn't work with cats. With the motion detector air sprayer, they learn that going up there means getting hit with air but it's something that's just "happening" not something you're doing to them. I got it on Amazon for 40 bucks.

Although if your cat has more than one way of getting up on the counter you may need to buy more than one.
I had a lot of luck getting my guy to eat a pallet of this every morning. https://www.chewy.com/purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets/dp/282734?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Purina%20Pro%20Plan%20Veterinary%20Diets&utm_term=%7Bkeyword%7D
I saw a protective suit used for cats that get spayed or neutered it’s on Amazon. Seems to be more comfortable then a cone. I plan to buy one because my kitten will get spayed in the next month or so. When I find the link I’ll will post it below. my cat is having same problems. i'm trying out the stuff they sell on amazon. should be here tomorrow. reviews seems steller. almost all share same outcome, cats putting on weight and they coat/fur much cleaner and healthier. also less vomiting and they don't act like they're starving or thirsty all the time. i can not vouch for this yet, but i'm going to give it a try.
I have tried so, so many fountains over the years, and the worst part was always cleaning them. Then I found Veken brand and this fountain is literally the easiest to disassemble and clean. No weird angles or nooks too hard to reach properly. The water flow is whisper quiet, and the reservoir is large.

I had a cat that would aim high no matter how tall the sides until I got a second cat and opted for more space as a temporary solution. The moment we got one of these GIANT litter boxes from a local pet store the height issue turned into a very rare problem. Turned out he just needed space to stretch out comfortably so he wouldn’t make a mess over the sides.
Ymmv but I’ve had many cats since use these giant style boxes with no issue. My only recommendation would be to cut off the storage pockets with a sharp razor because they gather too much litter from cats getting in and out and are annoying to clean.
I can't say I know it'll help, but I've been using a litter that is said to attract the cat to the litter box. Unfortunately, it's formulated for a single cat, but there are other similar products:
Of course, changing the cat's litter will be one more thing that they'd have to adjust to, but if you do it slowly, substituting just a bit of the new litter for the old litter and gradually increasing the new and reducing the old, that reduces the stress a lot. Have you ever considered that maybe they just don't like the litter you're using? Just a thought...
I think I've seen products that come like a powder or granules that you can add to litter to attract a cat to the box. A good pet store may be able to steer you in the right direction. Also, they have litter boxes made to look like furniture now, so maybe you could swap out a side table for a side table/litter box? (Somehow I have a hard time imagining how this might work, but I guess you never know.)
Personally I would stay away from the fancy toy-like water machines. I have a simple gravity water pan for my two cats and it works great.
I found this little video, maybe it can help you a little:

Was stalking your account for more Nigel photos and found this post...I'm looking to get Theo a golden or red tabby little brother hopefully pretty soon. Anyway this is what I use to trim up Theo's paw fur when it gets too long. Has never clipped him or anything. I'd easily recommend.
Did that link take you to the replacement blade? I just double checked the link and it did for me.
Here's the link again if so.
You can try chip activated feeders. This did help with the food competition between our two cats, but it wasn’t cheap.
We got one of these feeders from ebay used and had to buy the other one new. We just use stainless steel dishes in them, not the branded ones. The seal isn’t as tight but we change them out daily. Also make sure both kitties are getting lots of playtime. You want them exhausted. :)
Having a high perch or vantage point (even just a cleared off shelf) in every room can also decrease kitty stress. Look for places where a cat could inadvertently feel trapped by a human or another cat and see if you can engineer escape routes.
If nothing else helps, a short course of prozac or gabapentin can often be useful in situations like this.
Oh! If you haven’t, wipe both kitties down with an unscented pet wipe. Sometimes kitties decide they smell like they vet and can’t let it go.
We use this pillow style cone for our cats.
You will need to watch your cat though because it doesn’t come out as far as a cone & is soft so they may still be able to reach. Ours were not able to reach so it worked for us.
Thanks. I am using sWheat right now. I have been flushing it regularly. Could that particular litter be an exception or likely not?
A while back I was researching options for traveling with cats as I needed to pick up some kitties from a town two hours away and in the process learned a lot.
I ended up buying this One for Pets carrier which offers a lot of room so you can fit something like a litterbox in there without crowding the cat. It fits across the whole backseat and buckles in, both of which are features I wanted. It's pretty pricey, but Amazon has some cheaper alternatives.
I learned that you should leave the crate out a week or two before your trip to get the kitty used to it and to being in it. Once she's used to it, when she is in it, but can zip it up/close the door for a bit to get her used to that. And maybe move the crate/carrier to another room so she gets used to being in it while it's moving.
I did discover when I picked up my kitties that they need a place to hide if they get too scared. Just having a blanket over the crate/carrier may do just that, but I also had some small towels in my carrier for them to burrow into. In lieu of a towel I would suggest a t-shirt or something you have worn so that she can be comforted by your scent.
Also USE PUPPY PADS! One of my kitties got scared and tinkled a little in the carrier. It wasn't too difficult to clean up later, but I learned my lesson about lining the bottom of their carrier with puppy pads to help manage accidents.
i would take your kitty to another vet for another opinion! My two kittens had coccidia when i first got them, and it took about a month for them to heal. all their poos were diarrhea and i had to watch them intently and clean their butts and paws each time. i would stay up until 4 am each night to wait for them to sleep so i wouldn't have to find poo marks all over the house when i woke up. it was hard, but it was worth it.
there are medications you can buy online that help with digestion. i used this for a while and my cats took it like a treat! i also find that baby pumpkin puree helps alot and my cats love it too, so i add it to their regular meals.
i hope everything goes well with your kitten!
Someone already suggested scratching posts. In my opinion the scratching post that stand are nice but I found the scratching posts that are beds or cardboard shaped like beds are a big hit among cats. I have a lot throughout my house and my cat have many cat trees but she still opts for the scratch post beds instead of he cat trees to scratch on.

I would not give that product to a cat. Eucalyptus is toxic to cats and it is listed as one of the main ingredients. Alcohol is also pretty strong to be using on them as well. You can go to your vet for a prescription sulfur dip or buy Chlorhexidine Wipes. Smiling Paws Pets is a brand that I have heard good reviews on, they make both a bath and a spray, I would just be careful not to get in kitties eye.
I make feeding time play time. My cat eats wet meals, but I get a snack sized amount of kibble (around 50-60 calories worth) and toss them one piece at a time for her to chase up/down stairs, hallways, and across long stretches of the house. When she's tired, I put whatever is left into puzzle toys. Nina Ottosson makes some of my favourites. An easy DIY option is to get a small, closed cardboard box, punch some holes out of it, and put treats/kibble inside to be pawed out.
Also, when the thing on a string gets boring, find an interesting noise to pair it with. My cat loves crinkling and bells. There are some dollar store wand toys that have met their demise, but I find she intermittently LOVES to chase the little end cap that pops off the end of the wand. I've saved a few of them up because they will inevitably get lost under an appliance or something. They're very light and bouncy and make a hard plastic sound that's really easy to follow.
There are tracks with balls that flash as well. She has her moments of LOVING those tracks, and I find it's most fun when part of the track is obscured because it acts like prey "hiding".
This is actually a toy my cat's foster home gave me to take home with her, and she loves it so much that I gave one to a friend's cat who also went nuts for it (until the dog chewed it up): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00SH76C3C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's got a woven texture so if they swat at it, their claws catch in the weave and they inadvertently whip it up in the air. You can compress it and release it like a tiny rocket for them to chase, but even if you can leave it around safely, it's great for independent play.
If she likes random bits of plastic, she might really like these cat crazies. My cat absolutely loves them and constantly loses them. They're small, light, similar to milk jug rings, and more weird. I highly recommend them.

I adopted a 1yr old male outside cat from a shelter about a month ago. In the beginning he wasn't interested in toys at all, after a while he started to really like the cheapie catnip mouse toys, then he started to branch out to some of the other stuff. They really, really love the feather on a string toys. Try those.
Oh, and definitely get a scratching post!
My cat meows when she is bored and wants to play. This is her favorite toy (and she is super picky)

I’m not sure why it’s so expensive now because it was half the price when I bought it. You can get the cheaper one that doesn’t have the light up ball & buy the light up ball separately for about $5 for 2 balls.
You should probably get some toys. I would reccomend some kind of mice or something like this:
And some sort of string or something on a stick like this:
You can also look at interactive cat toys like treat balls, cat springs, chasing mice etc.
Try leaving the TV open for a few minutes or playing fish/bird videos on the laptop/tablet and see if the kitty responds to those.
If you have a suitable window, you can consider getting a cat window perch for the kitty to have a view of some outdoor action or move the cat tree near a window. One way to make this more interesting is to setup a bird feeder outside the window.
If aquarium is what you want, you can try out the artificial aquarium
