Yes, it is using data from OpenStreetMap so editing OSM is updating router database.
> OSM also doesn't seem to have our newest cycle track
Adding it to OSM would be really nice. In case of problems you may either ask me, /r/openstreetmap or use something from https://www.openstreetmap.org/help
Though there may be some lag in update, main OSM map is updated within minutes after edit - but many data consumers update daily or weekly. I am not sure how long it is necessary for brouter to start using new data.
Didn't work so well for me in Toronto. It doesn't seem to differentiate between "bike lanes" (e.g., a painted line on the road) vs. "cycle tracks" (e.g., a protected bike lane with a curb or bollards), so "safety" doesn't really mean "safe." The default "safe" route also routed along one of the busiest streets with no bike lane, instead of a slight detour on bike lane + cycle track. OSM also doesn't seem to have our newest cycle track, while Google Maps does.
So far Google Maps appears to be the best solution, but maybe I can update OSM with better data in Toronto and help it improve. I assume if I provide updates at https://www.openstreetmap.org, it automatically gets reflected here?
I bought a cheaper folding trailer 4 years ago on Amazon for $120ish. It's just big enough for a 1/2 barrel keg. Beautiful Time Cargo Bicycle Trailer, Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M8JEGSS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Tb.DDbBJ5Y4YB
I use these. They're cheap and large enough for a few days worth of groceries. YMMV.

Don't buy this one.
The cloth around the bottom wire that is supposed to protect your frame or ease the rotation of the mount quickly wears through followed by the coating on the wire. Then you have steel rubbing against your frame wearing a nice groove in it if it is aluminum.

If you already have cycling experience then you know what you want and can forget about my "you'll want another bike anyway" remark, as that is something that usually happens with beginners who, after half a year or so, have improved so much that they want to go (a lot) faster and need a sportier model.
A heavy load on the front carrier does have some impact on road handling, something to keep in mind.
That little angled bracket on the left vertical pipe is to mount the (bottle dynamo powered) headlight, so the light doesn't get blocked by any cargo.
Neat solution. Zip-tying the tubing against the rack should prevent the lock rattling. Here's a canvas bag design for a rack mounted U-lock holder.
Ha, never noticed that in the photo. The guy in that photo is making a mistake by carrying the bike with the driveside against his clothing. I always carry my city bike with the driveside facing outward (I grab the leather handle with my right hand).
I've had good success with Aliexpress vendors, but shipping times are a bit ambiguous (sometimes it takes a week, sometimes it takes a month).
I just found the same handle on Amazon Prime for $15. I would definitely pay the extra few dollars for amazon customer service and shipping times.
And I have to say, if you need to make yourself visible rather than project light on the road ahead, even $17 buys you a very effective pair of USB lights. At that price though, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't last long, but they are very bright and work nicely. I use a pair as additional lighting in bad weather on the city streets.
So is something like this a good idea?

If that's the wheel you want, it looks like Sturmey-Archer's shifters work with Nexus hubs. If that's the case, then all these would work for you.
