Now cloud sync is based on Firestore Database (https://firebase.google.com/products/firestore). It is independent product of Google for commercial usage. It means that you can only lose your data if you occasionally delete it by yourself or expose your authentication credentials with someone.
> Are you sure? I saw an option inside the app that if you make a 1-time donation it will sync notes accross your devices for 1 year. Isn't that an extra feature?
When you make a donation it is written some additional description how your donation will be used (it does not mean that the app will stop working or will block your account, no:). Internally the app uses such cloud service as Firebase Firestore to sync data across devices. This service is not free (https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/pricing). I do not want to collect fixed payments for it from everyone because the costs of activity of the majority of the users are not so much. And donation-based system helps me to stay motivated. If users find the app useful - they help, if not - I do not want to force them using the app if they can find something more useful and free.
Hi! Sounds strange..
could you please write more details about an issue with sync:
1) have you authorized with the same account on both mobile and desktop? 2) which versions of the app are you using? 3) could you create a note on your mobile device and access it from the web editor on your computer? (https://clipto.pro/#/editor) 4) could you create a note on your desktop (via browser editor or a native app) and see it in your mobile? 5) the country of your location 6) do you have any firewall installed that could prevent the app from syncing the data on your desktop?
sorry for the delay:)
If the app was installed from Windows Store then it is an issue that need to be solved. As a workaround, you can install the binary file from site (https://clipto.pro). It should be run correctly on boot.
This is strange. Seems like on one of your devices it is a problem with access of the app to the internet. Can you check on both devices the same scenario and write which one is working and which is not:
1) sign in into the web version of the app (https://clipto.pro/#/editor) 2) check if after sign in you can see the expected number of notes 3) create or do some change on the desktop or mobile version of the app 4) check that these changes are available in the web version
And write me the results of the test. Thanks!
Yes. This is the idea of the app to work across all platforms. On Android 10 (if you want to take notes from the clipboard) by default the app suggests to use alternative solutions and is ready to be configured via ADB to be fully working as it was before 10: https://clipto.pro/l/KanLCodapScXwxAy7
Thanks for the help!
1) here the details about alpha testing program - https://clipto.pro/l/w3fBt9Cx9S4ECEXC6 Technically, if you make a backup of your data (via Android app) you will be able to restore from it later. The solution should not affect existing data, but I aware about possible data lost:) That is why this program is not public and is rewarded with extra sync capabilities for everyone who join it. 2) Google Keep takeout archives is on the list of tasks to be implemented after this global “optimization build”. Just need to complete with this big update that should reduse costs of instant data sync.
Thanks for your support! Here the details about this “alpha testing program” (https://clipto.pro/l/w3fBt9Cx9S4ECEXC6). But be aware that the Desktop clients are not adopted yet and will be prepared within 1-2 days. Also, as a Patreon member, you get extended limit on the total number of notes you can keep in sync across devices. Please send me your account id (Settings -> Email button -> in the created email find and send me account identifier)
Hmm Clipt has this functionality, so I thought it's also possible for clipto too to have this feature. Also (not related) but I wish the grid list style can also preview stuff like preview list style but with smaller preview,so it's easier to see multiple notes at a time. Otherwise I think this app is really great and has alot potential to grow even more!
I have a suggestion about the long term development of the app. Functionality can be added gradually but knowing that the app will get to the point is equally if not most important. I don't want to have to export my data in a year or so just because the app couldn't be sustainable.
Another app, Bundled Notes (currently in Early Access) has a subscription model I can get behind. 80₹ or 1.05$ per month or 500₹ or 6.57$ per year is feasible for me, the developer there has adjusted the amount per region, I believe. A win-win situation for both the user and the developer.
I like the premise of Clipto. I mainly am going to use it as a markdown editor, so a toolbar would be nice, some customizations maybe in editor color perhaps. Currently I use [VSCode > Syncthing > Markor] > Git. That can be my big picture file cabinet and I want to use Clipto as my day-to-day daily driver.
Not a bug I would say but I have a file list of my ebooks folder through tree /f
command, a list.txt
. In VSCode the file is 16150 lines long. I tried copying it in Clipto, it saved but on the phone the app crashes more often than I would like when opening it. Again, not a bug per se. Just putting it out there.
I forgot to mention that I am currently using a Chrome Extension called "Join" to achieve this but if my suggestion is implemented I could ditch it completely. It also does a lot of other stuff that I don't really use but I could see being useful in certain situations, so I wanted to let you know about it. Particularly because it seems to work in a similar manner to your app and you might want to implement some of the other stuff that it can do.
