You don't need passive income right now, you are going to be a pilot or something similar making a bunch of money soon. You need to focus on getting that fancy job right now, once you have said fancy job you need to maximize all tax advantaged accounts (HSA,401k/403b, ira/Roth IRA, etc) once all of them are maximized then start putting money in a taxable brokerage.
Risk tolerance can be adjusted for based on what you actually hold in your tax advantaged accounts.
You can access all of your retirement accounts early, if you retire early (link). I recommend reading all the madfientist posts, and bunch of Mr money mustache and ask questions once you've educated yourself there. If you want to read a book this one should be a good start.
>Maybe save another $30k and take a year off to travel
If you want to. I've done it. It can be great fun if you can make friends online in other countries and then visit.
It sounds like the book you're looking is this. It basically tries to answer the exact question you're asking by giving a series of answers broken up into age. In your 20s maybe consider doing X, in your 30s consider Y, and so on.
Founder here. I get it, really. I hate making accounts too. But here's the skinny: we're scaling this with Amazon Web Services. Since we're new and growing, we sincerely don't know how much it's going to cost to keep everything running 24/7 in the cloud. We want to give folks free and powerful software. But until we get a better grasp on the potential overhead, we need a way to filter for usage abuse and other shenanigans. Having folks make accounts is the best way for us to monitor this for now. We plan to soon add Google and social media log-in options, too.
For what it's worth, we never share or sell your email address. But I understand your reluctancy, and I want folks to use the tool in any event. So, if it's a dealbreaker, I'd encourage you to use a temporary/disposable email address (here's one example: https://www.emailondeck.com). The only downside to this approach is that we won't be able to alert you when we've made updates. And we've got some cool things coming.
Feel free to shout with any questions.
Cal Newport's books, especially his latest: https://www.amazon.com/World-Without-Email-Reimagining-Communication-ebook/dp/B08BKSJX1M/ref=sr_1_2?crid=17VX3S0XLJGZ3
The realization that we've all just been tossed into this information overload environment, with basically no tools to help us save very basic software like email, messaging, powerpoint, etc - I just found it very alienating.
