Wow thank you! I use this icing recipe: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/royal-icing/ and try to use gel food colouring rather than liquid ones to avoid watering it down too much. I also use these bottles to ice: KitchenCraft Sweetly Does It Squeeze Bottle Icing Bags and Nozzles, Plastic, 70 ml, Set of 2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005FW1LRE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_2wPSFbVRWBASS because I couldn’t get the hang of it with icing bags. I think trial and error is the best way to get used to it, these ones definitely weren’t my first attempts. Hope this helps!
Just my opinion - I hated the akron mount and so do a good chunk of my 'cookie friends' on insta who do cookies for a living. I waiting months before buying it and returned it within days once I finally got it. I ended up buying a $12 one on amazon (this one) and love it 100x more. I've had it for 6 months with no problems and use it daily for both my projector & recording videos!
I buy this brand from Amazon. I've experimented with frosting sheets versus (the much cheaper) wafer paper and found that the quality is worth the price for the frosting sheets. They have such better color retention and image clarity than wafer paper does.
This is the one I use. It is a bit on the expensive side, but I also wanted one for movies. It works really well, it's small, comes with a tripod, and allows wireless screen casting from my phone.
I use a pico projector which I bought from Amazon and swear by it! I have had it for 2+ years and never had any trouble with it.
You do need to purchase a tripod plus a converting cable. I have no idea what the cable is - my brother got it for me when I got confused haha. It could be an HDMI to apple one but don't quote me. But beyond that it's super self explanatory and a huge life saver :)
I did too! First time I used them I made “urine” beakers! Only lab people would think that’s cute! I found the, at Amazon. They are a bit flimsy though - be warned. https://www.amazon.com/Fox-Run-3696-Science-Metallic/dp/B07N1HDWDH/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1MLZ4C72RAEP2&dchild=1&keywords=science+cookie+cutters&qid=1619231386&sprefix=Science+cookie%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW...
I’m not experienced really, but I bought these a couple years ago. Good cutters for every holiday, plus generic ones as well. Wilton Cookie Cutters Set, 101-Piece - Alphabet, Numbers and Holiday Cookie Cutters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D1FJ2E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_fHIzqXAz9hmll
I don’t think it affects it! I just like the metal ones because they’re easy to clean and a smaller size. I use these little spatulas, they work pretty well as long as the icing isn’t very hard. I also have one kind of like this for getting all the icing out of the mixer bowl. The one I have is Wilton but I can’t seem to find it online. You just want a sturdier one since the bowl icing is probably thicker.
I use this, there's cheaper to options, but I liked this because I can wirelessly screen share with my phone so it is super easy to use for cookies. Plus the resolution is pretty nice, so it is also good for movies.
Aw! Thank you so much!
The cutters are from Amazon: 9-Piece Hexagon Nylon Cookie Cutter Set (Hexagon) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F8LJN57/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ftrreR1MqFJlK
And I thought the same about watercolor but it was surprisingly easy! Mix gel food coloring with clear alcohol and paint onto dry royal icing. Then I used a black food marker for the lines. SweetAmbs has a nice tutorial here: https://www.sweetambs.com/tutorial/hand-painted-cookies-tropical-sunset/
If you are in the US, try this one: https://www.seriouseats.com/rolled-sugar-cookie-recipe. (I’m in Canada and find it doesn’t work as well with other flours besides the Gold Medal brand it calls for)
If you have a non-spreading recipe that you like, try increasing the salt (dessert recipes without enough salt taste bland) and try increasing the extracts / spices. That may help.
As others have said, chilling cookies before baking can help reduce spending. I also use these https://www.amazon.ca/Silpat-Silpain-Premium-Non-Stick-Silicone/dp/B005QBJYIC.
Happy baking.

Hi! New to cookie decorating and looking for 12ColourGelSet,14.1g(1/2oz)...some help figuring out my issue here. Two problems. One, some of the colours are bleeding at the seams. Two, after 2 days of drying those weird flakey looking patches showed up. I am using Wilton gel food colouring (linked below) and a meringue powder royal icing recipe. Any thoughts on where I went wrong?? Thank you!
When I started learning I got a color kit with a little bit of everything. Started doing it during quarantine and I still have not emptied any of the bottles. I got this one:
I use this one from Amazon . It works pretty well, and it comes with a little tripod! The battery life isn't great, but I typically keep it plugged in and it works well.
Of course i have this Akaso Projector
Of course!! Here's the link from Amazon
Let me know if it works
I found a different set with the same shape and it looks like they intend for it to be a cooked turkey
They actually had two chances and both of them are equally as ambiguous

This amazon link says it’s a drumstick
The closest I can get to picturing it is as a quarter
I used these! They're so easy to use! Downside is that they are a little tedious to setup (if you're a perfectionist like me), and I wish the bar that holds them was transparent. But those definitely aren't deal breakers. I have THE WORST piping penmanship, so these have been a wonderful and creative alternative to be able to have text on a cookie.
I’m thinking almost like a mini trash picker-upper for getting the cutters out of the dough? What about something like this? 01 Grabber Reacher Tool, Reaching Assist Tool, 11.6in Practical Heavy Duty for Gripping Variouse Shapes Objects Picking up Trash Pests Trash https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PRYH6SC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_5238A89N3X72K2MK33WQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
All except the cookie were from The Sweet Designs Shoppe!
For the cookie I used the smooth side of those cutters linked above, and then used the ridged side of a smaller one to cut out a bite.
That is what I see...old school Saint Nick with a sack.

Something along these lines. Maybe a local bakery supply has something similar? I don't frost cookies, this was just a quick google search.
Thank you!!!! I use edibleinks’s markers. I find that the super fine tip is really useful for small details. here they are!

This is the one I have and the only one I've ever used (1.5 years now) so while I can say it has faithfully worked for me, it was kind of a pain to get started with. I have some friends who had problems with the ports on theirs. So a bit hit or miss, which sucks for the price.
So I used to use a Pico projector when I first started. But the picture wasn’t as clear and I always seemed to have issues with it. It broke after a couple years (night before a HUGE order was due 🤦🏼♀️) - one of the ports or whatever they’re called didn’t work anymore.
ANYWAY, I got a Miroir projector at Walmart. It was the only one available and it turned out to be a great purchase! Picture is a lot clearer and I don’t remember what else I liked better about it than the Pico, I just know I did!
Make sure to get the adapter for your cell phone if you don’t already have one!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072QDGKLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_73AY7EV6S4VSVKYR9SBQ
I have the older version of this pico projector. It’s a little finicky and you have to make sure it’s fully charged AND plugged in when you use it but I’ve had it for years and love how teeny it is.

I'm paying it forward ! I had exactly the same question after watching a YouTube video "How To Write on Cookies". The Little Cookie Co. got right back to me with all the answers. Check out her response to my questions - she was awesome !
This is the tripod she recommends https://www.amazon.ca/Limostudio-Camcorder-Digital-Cameras-Camcorders/dp/B005CRKX3K
It's currently sold out (natch....) but I have it booked marked for when I get my own projector !
is it the AAXA Led pico? I've been seeing it on bakers' instagrams. looks cute tho https://www.amazon.com/AAXA-Technologies-KP-101-01-Projector-built/dp/B005TAXDPK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=MC3U1EYH6L26&dchild=1&keywords=aaxa+led+pocket+projector&qid=1614187112&sprefix=aaxa+led+%2Caps%2C1392&sr=8-3
I have a pico projector. I have the first link below and the other link is also a good projector just a little higher priced. Dafont.com is great for finding different fonts also.

They do have very large couplers on amazon, I have one myself and I’ll let you know that you need big bags for them, since they take up a lot of the bag.

Of course! I've only used it twice, but have been pretty happy so far. Overall easy to pair and use. We already had a full sized camera tripod, and it connects to that just fine. The reviews have plenty of other cookiers who say they like it too.
This is the one... https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07HNX276T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_0JZ6TNN7G64MBDWV7J3R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I have and it works great! I had to buy liners for the trays separately but they were less than $15 for a roll you cut to fit.
httpsss://www.amazon.com/Gourmia-Countertop-Dehydrator-Temperature-Circulation/dp/B01M6AZ863
This is the one I have. My only issue is that I probably should have gotten the bigger one but otherwise I love it!
I love the Sweet Sugarbelle shape-shifter sets.

I use these for myself and cookie kits. I only had one break due to using thick consistency and applying too much pressure.
If you prefer bottles you can order some that use couplers and tips so it you control the tip size. I prefer them as well and use them all the time.
I use the Sweet Sugarbelle brand, but I'm not seeing them on Amazon right now... These are just like them.

I don’t have clumps, but I also don’t use a true royal icing. My recipe is based on Sweet Hope icing which is a royal icing and glaze mix. I’ve always use a mixer so there maybe so that maybe where the issue is. It might be a recipe issue though. You may want to consider reworking it a bit.
I let my flood dry for at least 3 hours absolute minimum. I typically will flood the first day and then decorate the rest the next day. Then on the third day paint and adhere extras. Though I am fortunate to have a studio with ample space and storage. When I first started I never had enough room for what I wanted to do. I had to get real crafty. I really recommend this cupcake carrying case I got off Amazon. The cupcake inserts can be flipped over to become shelves. Giving you twice the amount of space in the case for cookies. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B5JS1Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.oSHCb22T3GMW
I personally have a Farberware stand mixer (about $100 at Walmart), but amazon has some stand mixers with good reviews that are cheaper, even. like this one Unless you’re baking in great quantities, I don’t think a KitchenAid is really necessary (though you’ll miss out on all the nifty meat grinding and pasta making attachments).
Any time I can help send a message. One last thing I wish someone had told me earlier. I use these Twixit Clips to tie off the ends of the piping bags so nothing spills out while you're decorating. (You can put the bag down and nothing spills out the top and they are easier than elastics.) This is the large container but they have smaller sets and different colors.

Not sure if your wife has the same issue, but I hate having things that tie at the back of my neck, swimsuits, aprons...you name it. Gives me a neck ache and headache. My mom cot me a cross back apron with pockets ans I LOVEEE IT. Oh Awesome! I cut my stencil from the frosted opaque cricut vinyl because you can still see through it to make sure your cookie is where it needs to be under it. I cut it reversed like you would for iron on. Put the stencil on transfer tape (I use regular clear contact paper), lay the mesh over it (this is what I use INTBUYING 3 Yards 110 Mesh... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011KHGT88?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) remove the transfer tape and you have a perfect stencil! Then I use toothpaste consistency royal icing to “screen print” my stencil in to the cookie. So much better than normal stencils because you don’t have to make all of those little notches to hold the stencil together!
These resealable pouches I found on amazon. They have different sizes and worked great! 400 Pcs 4"x4.73" Clear Resealable Cello/Cellophane Bags Good ,AROIC,for Bakery, Candle, Soap, Cookie Poly Bags https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q1WZMLP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qh4TEbB7Y18WF
Get yourself a little counter top convection toaster oven!something like this: amazon oven
This became a game changer for me in my first apartment/dorm. Since I could unplug and store it when I was done, too.
Thank you!
Cutters are Sweet Sugarbelle and I found them on Amazon. One shape came from set 1 and the other came from set 2. They are multi way cutters... meaning each cutter can be used to make a couple different things! I just got started with decorating about 2 months ago, so the sets have been a great way to get a variety without needing to buy as many cutters.
Usually I just put them in a ziplock bag on the counter until I'm ready to start decorating them.
If I'm making a big order (100+ cookies), I'll put them in ziplock bags and then freeze them, and work on a batch of 10-15 every night. If you do this, take the ones you'll be working on out and let them sit, in the ziplock bag, for 30-45 minutes to come to room temperature before you open them. Just to avoid risk. That being said, I've started working on them straight from the freezer, before, and they were fine.
Once you have a layer of royal icing on the cookies, they should be fine sitting out for another 3-4 days, because the icing sort of seals them. BUT if you're doing a lot of little details that don't really cover the entire cookie, I would suggest covering them with something overnight/while they're drying. I have a cabinet full of these containers, and they're super useful for setting over drying cookies and storing different colors of icing in the fridge.
You don't really have to cover them. Mostly I do this to avoid stray animal hairs from getting in the icing. Cat hairs are super tiny, and they waft in the breeze like damned little dandelion seeds, and even though I keep my kitchen sanitized and pet-free, they STILL occasionally find their way on cookies.
Or $13 on amazon - if you have prime it's free two day shipping http://www.amazon.com/Fox-Run-Stackable-10-Inch-14-Inch/dp/B000QIZ1AU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1436191696&sr=8-4&keywords=cookie+racks&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011
I use these. They are magical. They're cheaper at Joann's or Michael's than they are on Amazon, though. :)
Here in Germany we have something called Crazy Colors. Accidentally turned my icing super red by using 3 packages, because they didn't seem to work very well in the beginning.
Also had good results with the Wilton colours.
