I bought these on a whim when I couldnt getany of the Bee Paper books I liked... These are exactly what you're looking for. I'm heavy handed and there is absolutely no bleed through on the pages. Only drawback is the pages have a tad bit of texture to the so it probably beats up the brush nib quicker than a smoother page.

Thanks. The paper I used was by Pink Pig. I put a link to an example below!
I bought this one on Amazon, and I really like it. It doesn't really bleed, but I always put a piece of printer paper underneath just in case. I use it to practice coloring techniques before coloring in my own artwork : )
Look for NIUTOP 120 Slots Marker Pen Case on Amazon. Both my bags are the "green" color, but it is a turquoise blue like the one here.
Watercolour paper is not suitable. It is too thick and rough. I use Ohuhu marker paper, this one:
Probably the Strathmore 400 series marker pad. I think the colours turn out a little paler than their highest quality Bristol but it can certainly handle a lot of layers of ink.
This seems to be the paper. I would try another kind. Not everything that is designer for markers works well with markers. I used to have Canson marker paper and that was horrible shiny flimsy paper that turned my work into drab. I now have this paper and it works great: https://www.amazon.nl/Ohuhu-Spiraal-gebonden-Schetsboek-Kunstenaars/dp/B08NPMQNLB/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1Y7SG8OD95E99&keywords=papier+marker+ohuhu&qid=1658392541&sprefix=papier+marker+ohuhu%2Caps%2C56&sr=8-3
I haven't tried it yet but the Crescent rendr sketchbooks are supposed to be good for blending markers without bleeding through the next page.
I use these Crafter's Companion holders. They work super well, and they stack very nicely!
>Plus finding refills are hard. I've needed a grey blue for over a year now. Can't find the refill through craft stores or Amazon. So frustrating.
Have you tried looking on amazon.co.jp? Many items are able to be shipped overseas, and if you allow the site access to your location, it will only show what can be shipped to your country. There is even an official translate into english option (click on the japanese flag on the top). Just note that when you do a search, Amazon will auto-translate it into japanese, and you might need to tell it to undo the translation (at the top of the displayed listings.)
Though, if you need pale blue grey Copic refill, it's available on the Canadian Amazon store for $23 CAD here.
Winsor and Newton marker paper - https://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Bleedproof-Marker-Paper/dp/B017UCSY62 this one. I buy it from my local art store tho, but this is popular so you should find it easly. I also cut it to A5 size so that 100 pages for like 6 bucks.
Well, here's a direct link to what I ordered:
It's in german, but it says it's not available anymore.
Both the image and the measurements don't match up.
This is the one I have:
BTSKY New 171 Slots Marker Case Lipstick Organizer-Canvas Markers Holder for for Primascolor Markers and Copic Sketch Markers Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081YG7RSK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_DBxRFbNG1PFXH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s a bit bulky and I’m not sure how much I trust it as a carrying case for travel but it does help with keeping the pens neatly together in one place
I’ve tried most of the marker papers. The best I’ve found are xpress it and Neenah solar white. You’ll find most of the artists on YouTube use one of those. Check out sandy Allnock, she uses Neenah for copics almost exclusively and did a video comparing the two. Neenah is also much cheaper. I buy a ream of 250 sheets of letter sized paper for about $35 US. That’s 14 CENTS a sheet. Don’t get the cheap Neenah, you want the one where the comments are all about copics. You can also find this for sale at card making/rubber stamp stores. And you can find it in smaller packs too. Here’s a link to the paper on amazon us. https://smile.amazon.com/Classic-Crest-Solar-White-Cover/dp/B000I20NWK
You can use pencils on both. But the xpressit is smooth and has an almost plastic feel. The Neenah will do better with pencils.
Check out vanilla arts too, she does a lot with copics and colored pencil on top. https://www.vanillaarts.com/ she uses cryogen and xpressit. I’ve not tried cryogen with copics, only distress oxide inks but she recommends it. She has a great blog and classes. But her classes are a smidge pricey. Though she does more fine art than many others online.
The strathmore was meh in my opinion. If you want to blend smoothly most of the marker papers you can get at places like Michaels didn’t work well for me. There’s a reason most of the artists online use either xpressit or Neenah.
Hope it helps!
Mary
Are you planning on drawing from life? I'm not an expert, but I've been doing a lot of Urban Sketching. If I'm drawing from life, and a 1 point perspective building, or an urban scene interests me, I'm not going to alter the perspective from what is in front of me. But the more vanishing points you add, the more "pop" your art will have. Even drawing chairs in 2PP will make them appear more dramatic. I'm a beginner artist myself, but I've been studying a lot on perspective lately. Take a look at this chair I drew to see how 2PP can really dramatize your subject.
A book I highly recommend for perspective. I've been reading a lot and the author of that book really breaks down perspective at a dummy level.
I've been using this Seems to be a decent paper? I also use cotonwood sketchbooks.
Thank you means alot. Yea copic’s work better on thicker paper that can afford to be saturated by the ink without it getting ruined. The paper/book I use currently : https://www.amazon.ca/Copic-Marker-SKBK11X14-Sketchbook-14-Inch/dp/B009MRGU92?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_27ez2cc312_e Highly recommended by people better than me is this paper : https://www.amazon.ca/Copic-Marker-11-Inch-Express-Blending/dp/B0044JPR7E?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_zbgbw30oc_e
I use Deleter 135kg manga paper. I like the way my markers look on it, and it's not super heavy or terribly expensive (It comes in a 40-pack).
It comes in A4 (smaller), and B4 (HUGE) sizes
Fair warning. 12 marker set of copic sketch at Michael's is $109. http://www.michaels.com/copic-sketch-marker-set-12-color-basic/D037662S.html
Same set on Amazon is Copic Marker 12-Piece Sketch Basic Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MRR3GU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_XnUZzbJRR58NH
If you aren't getting 50% off at Michael's your are getting ripped off.
I'm gonna chime in here and suggest you might skip the Black Ink kit. There's tons of different options for inking artwork in black in all sorts of price ranges and it's a technique that doesn't really capture what is unique about Copic style marker art. Don't get me wrong, you are probably going to want a black Copic, but less for inking outlines and more for filling in large black areas that you have already inked. My suggestion for what you should get? Honestly no matter what you get you are going to want more soon lol. $80 is going can get you a set of 12, this is as good a place to start as any: https://www.amazon.com/Copic-Marker-12-Piece-Sketch-Basic/dp/B000MRR3GU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479745724&sr=8-2&keywords=copic
That will give you a good sense of how the markers behave and blend, markers that are close in number blend well into one another.
On that note if you're coming up it's important to understand the numbering system that Copics use. It's simple and you can check it out here: https://imaginationinternationalinc.com/copic/101/copic-color-theory/
Last piece of advice is don't go too dark with your first set (colours ending in 8 or 9) as they are so dark they almost look black and it makes them tough to blend. I made this mistake thinking I wanted really intense tones but I hardly use those markers at all.
Have fun out there!
Oh! One more thing... I'm not sure where you live, but Michaels in Canada always has 40 or 50% off coupons online so that could help a lot if you have the same where you live.
If she's just starting out, the ciaos would be great for her. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, they come in sets of 12-72, or you can purchase them separately as well. They are refillable and have replaceable nibs and the same nibs as the sketch, they're just a little cheaper because they hold less ink and come in less colors. Even if she becomes a professional artist, she'll still be able to use these and weave sketch ones into her set.
I've had great luck with this particular hammermill paper. It's basically bulk cardstock, just a little thinner. Doesn't bleed or soak up too much marker. Alternatively, get card stock. Little pricier and won't make that much of a difference though.
