No problem!
I used a Dell S2721H, a low profile mount, and an inset outlet
Yeah that's what i did - what about using the screensaver app?

I just heard you have to use ADB to tweak how chromecast handles screensavers which I don't know how to do.
Kitchen counter. I ordered a USB C charging dock that will hold it upright, right now I just have it standing up on it's own.
Tablet doesn't go to sleep ever while plugged in and app open. The tablet does have a power setting though so I have it turn off at night and back on in the morning
I was going to go the Pi route but didn't because it was going to be too large. I didn't want a 16"+ monitor on the kitchen counter, plus the Pi adds additional bulk. Using the app with the tablet was much easier than installing Raspbian on my Pi and finding a monitor that woudl work, not to mention taking the monitor apart.
Not sure what you mean here. My specific type of use for it is to always display DAKboard. I also wouldn't call the tablet old, it has USB C afterall. Is it slower than my phone when switching apps? Yes, but that doesn't matter since once I open the DAKboard app it doesn't really matter how slow the tablet is. The update time is based on DAKboard, not the tablet.
I will try to post pictures later. Maybe I am being too hard on the resolution. It is not as crisp as my Pixel phone, but I have the text size set to small and I can still easily read it.
Closing thoughts: I am very happy with the overall tablet for $75. They keyboard is actually pretty slick and I could see myself taking this on trips because of it. However, I imagine the battery is going to be shot right away from being plugged in all the time and it will be pointless to travel with.
I bought this one. Installed Google Chrome on it. Disabled windows power saving mode. And was all set. Much easier to setup for 99% of people than a Raspberry Pi
Mini PC Stick 8GB DDR3L 128GB ROM... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KTV7F91?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Im using a portable monitor for it. Tried powering it with the rpi but no luck. Im sure there are cheaper ones out there too.

Sounds like corrupted SD card. Creating another Pi bootable SD card and swapping out to see if it boots would be the easiest way to determine if it is a software(SD card) or hardware(Pi) issue.
I would get a new SD card, and just set it up following the DIY guide. Looks like they recently made a Dakboard OS image for Pi which is probably even easier than the old way (Rasperian, then making a bunch of configuration changes from termina to get it to load the dakboard website on boot)
A lot of "everything you need" kits for pi's come with some really crappy SD cards that screw up over time and that could be what was used from the Etsy seller. I usually go SanDisk 32GB for my Pi's and at $8 each they last a very long time(3+ years 24/7)
I have a couple of these iPad frames in both sizes and they look great. They aren't super cheap, but I tried to build one by hand and it was hard to find a properly sized frame/mat
I just went with this screen. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0749R9Q3J/) While I was researching I found that most Viewsonics have a flat back with the wire connectors coming in through the bottom of the screen vs coming in the back. This will make for easy wall mounting. The orientation of the connectors is probably the only thing you would have to worry about so any budget screen that supports that connector orientation should be fine.
Monitor: ASUS VA27EHE 27” Eye Care Monitor Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS 75Hz Adaptive-Sync HDMI D-Sub Frameless https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082BYRR3L/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_P298VN3G8VSHF40G08B4
Oak 1 x 2.5 frame. I removed the bezel and unscrewed everything from the back. Used a router to cut a 1/4” wide x 3/8" deep grove to mount hold the monitor in place with a little over a 1/4” lip in front. Hot glued the PCB and Raspberry Pi to the back along with a smart plug. Everything sits at least 1/2" below the frame and cable management was no problem.
If there's an issue with it not coming on at 5am, Alexa can power cycle it (it's happened once) and it's just a single cord to the wall. I'd put a plug behind it but she's selling her house in a few months so there's no point.
Glad to see I’m not the only one and I agree with it being cooler if it was a little more focused. Here is the link I use:
https://www.wunderground.com/radar/us/tx/san-antonio
It’s all of Texas, so def not focused, but in a way that helps since my map is a couple hours behind. I also have family scattered and it’s good to see what’s going on with them. Which map are you using with no lag?
I bought this mini pc stick with windows 10 to make setting it up incredibly easy Mini PC Stick 8GB DDR3L 128GB ROM... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KTV7F91?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I never used a raspberry pi before and their prices are inflated. Then just attached it to a monitor and hung it up. It’s really easy to setup how you want your Dakboard to look.
If you want to go landscape mode instead of portrait, you can use a fire stick. I was messing around with an old one but couldn’t get it into portrait mode so I got the mini pc stick
I did this one. I’ve set it up but my monitor was supposed to be here Friday and still hasn’t arrived
Mini PC Stick 8GB DDR3L 128GB ROM Ιntel Atom X5-Z8350 Processor Windows 10 Pro Mini Computer Support 4K HD, 2.4G/5G Dual Band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, Auto Power on Windows Desktop Stick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KTV7F91/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PFXQBGFFFBT83QEMDVQC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For a monitor you're looking for a vesa mount. Specifications on the monitor will say what size spacing it has for the mount, and you just get a mount that fits that range.
If you want a secure and low profile mount I went for something like this.
Allcam LCD110 15" 17" 19" 22" LCD/LED TV Ultra Slim Wall Mount Bracket, Super Flush 15mm, VESA 75x75 VESA 100x100, Hold up to 20kgs (44 lb) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000NVR978/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_K8SYB749FA4GHJQF7FCM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Means the monitor is directly mounted to the wall, and you can put a decorative frame around it easily. My DIY skills are lacking so I even went for a cardboard frame.
My links still didn't work. I needed to go back to WU and get the animated weather link again from here: https://www.wunderground.com/radar/us/oh/dayton or similiar region.
It looks like something is going on with WeatherUnderground. Looking at the map on their website: https://www.wunderground.com/radar/us/ny/binghamton, the timestamp on the image is from yesterday. Looks like they've stopped updating the image. Hopefully this is only temporary!
Privacy.com can generate a card number for you and ties to your bank account. I use it to generate a one-time card when I'm shopping somewhere I don't trust. Also have a couple for yearly subscriptions I can turn off that are only tied to the one store. It's saved me exactly once so far.
Raspberry Pi 4
Monitor: LG 34UM95
If they offer a HTML/Javascript widget, you could copy/paste the widget code in to DAKboard. Just add a "Widget" block to your custom screen, then edit the block and paste in your widget code.
If that doesn't work, I know tradingview.com has several widgets that work well with DAKboard using the above method.
You need to change the private url in the file: /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart to the new screen. So Sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart
@chromium-browser --noerrdialogs --incognito --autoplay-policy=no-user-gesture-required --check-for-update-interval=1 --simulate-critical-update --kiosk https://dakboard.com/YOUR_NEW_PRIVATE_URL
I hope that helps
Ping Dakboard.com has all timeout. Something must be wrong with the servers or dns server I am using from spectrum. I'm seeing issues going on right now with spectrum.
Spectrum (Charter) DNS servers are down this morning. manually change you DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to use Google's DNS servers until it's back up
Hope this helps.
You could find a way to customize a R Pi and I'm still looking for good digital signage tools for business purpose to do that - so if you've tried something you like - let me know.
As for DAKboard, you can customize the layout and many other options https://dakboard.com/premium
I like it because it's simple and every device looks great (landscape or portrait) and it's simple to edit the backgrounds. The default background, time, weather, and a calendar is a pretty nice setup out of the box.
I do wish I could set time periods for certain sets of images. Thus, you could do the photo frame only (no calendar and weather etc) part of the day and add things for morning etc. This would also allow me to setup the display with marketing materials or menu boards that change throughout the say. I'm testing out the wordpress app Foyer (https://wordpress.org/plugins/foyer/) for this now. I autolaunch chromium on a Raspberry Pi to a single url and then run a mix of slides, video, and embed urls using the channel on the plugin. I'm still thinking about trying xibo open source too.
For pure atmosphere aesthetic (home use) just the DAKboard or a chromecast showing pictures is relaxing.
With Premium calendar refresh should take 15 minutes. With free version it's 75 minutes: https://dakboard.com/premium
So I'm quite sure something is not right. I would contact Support if you're on Premium.
Here’s the specs on the CPU pre-loaded with a SD card containing the code. https://dakboard.com/shop/cpu
You’ll connect to the Raspberry Pi CPU to enter your home WiFi credentials and then you’ll use your DAKboard account to register the display and will control settings from your account going forward.
I also went premium $39.95/yr with DAKboard (probably required to register multiple displays) but use a second free account too basically for a wall mounted tablet in another location with same details on this larger WiFi monitor device.
One way I dealt with power usage is using a cheap plug with motion detector timer to turn the monitor off if it doesn't detect motion for five minutes. I was looking at all sorts of complex solutions to not leaving this thing on all day, and this actually works great for our use!
I'm not sure which monitors you're looking at, but I've good success with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z8TC28F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There's this ...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=chyzinr.webpagescreensaver
it works really well however I'm still trying to figure out how to launch it on demand from a shortcut, or better yet a button on the remote.
I use Twilight for a bit to dim overnight as well as attempt to reduce burn-in. And then the developer options to stay awake while charging all the time.
Lately mine has been kicking off the Dakboard app, but I think that's due to a different app I was playing with to dim. Can't go wrong with Twilight.
